After Being Targeted by the Disabled Big Shot, It’s So Sweet [Rebirth] - Chapter 4
Wei Tinglan had called for a car while still in his hospital room. He went straight inside upon heading out and said to the driver, “Sorry, I was delayed by something. I’ll give you a tip and a good review later.”
The driver’s irritation and dissatisfaction instantly smoothed out: “No problem, no rush.”
The car was steady and fast, but it was stopped at the entrance of the villa district. The facial recognition only allowed Wei Tinglan in, the driver was barred.
Wei Tinglan knew that if it were Tao Chen, the facial recognition would allow him to bring people in.
But he couldn’t.
Despite the property management knowing he was the biological son brought back by the Tao family, the Taos had never had the property office come to register his identity.
Security here was strict. Without a clear owner identity, he was not allowed to bring people in.
In his previous life, Wei Tinglan had been blocked when bringing a friend back, which was how he learned about this rule.
At the time, he had lost a great deal of face. He felt stifled with anger but didn’t feel right bringing it up.
He was insecure, afraid of causing trouble, and afraid that being too calculative would make him unlikable. He could afford to be disliked by his eldest uncle’s family, but these were his true relatives; how could he not care?
When caring met not caring, one unconsciously became humble.
The security guard blocking Wei Tinglan felt a bit apprehensive and explained carefully, “The people living here are all extraordinary. Young Master, I’m truly sorry.”
He was afraid Wei Tinglan would blow up.
Two days ago, the ambulance had come. Word had spread that this one had kicked the Tao family’s young master and a guest into the water; the story was all over the place.
Wei Tinglan snapped out of his thoughts: “It’s fine, I understand. Just get a shuttle car to take me to my front door.”
He had worked many jobs. As a child, he delivered newspapers and milk, and picked up trash for money. When he got older, he washed dishes and sold small trinkets. Money wasn’t easy to earn, life wasn’t easy for anyone.
The guard blinked in surprise and nodded quickly.
Turning back to talk to a colleague about it, he sighed, “He’s quite a good kid, always keeps to himself, and his complexion isn’t good—looks quite pitiful. On the other hand, look at that fake one. With that treatment, you’d think he was the real one…”
The colleague mused, “Real or fake, it’s hard to say, but just thinking about it is frustrating. Do you think he hit people because of that?”
The news went through several twists and turns, changing from “Wei Tinglan has violent tendencies” to “The fake young master couldn’t find his place and bullied the real young master until he couldn’t take it anymore.”
Wei Tinglan didn’t know his reputation was improving, he went back and started packing his things.
Since he had already addressed them as “Uncle” and “Auntie,” it was no longer appropriate to live here. Moreover, after the encounter with Mr. Wei, he realized that people outside were much easier to get along with than the Tao family.
One only understands after dying once that blood relations are just one of those things.
Interact with those you get along with; do whatever makes you happy. It’s a simple matter, there’s no need to be so twisted about it.
Before he finished packing, the rest of the Tao family returned.
A servant notified Wei Tinglan, telling him to go to the living room.
The whole family was in the living room. Tao Chen was being held in Mother Tao’s arms, while Tao Xu sat to one side peeling an orange. Halfway through, he split it and naturally stuffed a piece into Tao Chen’s mouth.
Father Tao sat to one side with a dark face.
Tao Chen gave half the orange to Father Tao, and Father Tao’s expression softened considerably.
In the time it took to walk down the stairs, seeing this scene of fatherly love and filial piety, Wei Tinglan felt his past self was even more pitiful and foolish.
It was so obvious, he was an extra person.
He wasn’t polite either, he found a comfortable spot to sit and said to the servant, “I want seafood porridge. Put in extra shrimp and water.”
After his previous feat of kicking people, the servant didn’t hesitate and went off briskly.
Wei Tinglan made his requests confidently, unlike before when he endured, suppressed, and yielded on everything, terrified of being seen as a burden.
To begin with, since the Wei family gave birth to him, they should raise him.
Losing him and letting him suffer for over ten years—no amount of compensation would be too much. Food, drink, pocket money—he wouldn’t refuse any of it.
Once he turned of age, everyone would go their separate ways.
Seeing Wei Tinglan so composed, Tao Chen’s brows knit unconsciously.
Tao Xu thought he was still thinking about being bullied by Wei Tinglan and patted his shoulder comfortingly. However, a mysterious wariness prevented him from scolding Wei Tinglan. He only asked, “Do you know Mr. Wei?”
The Wei family’s headquarters was in the capital.
It just so happened that Mr. Wei’s older sister had married into the He family in An City. The climate in An City was better than the capital, and because Mr. Wei’s legs were bad, he spent most of the autumn and winter in An City these last few years.
But even for Tao Xu, at banquets, he could only follow his father to offer Mr. Wei a toast. He had no right to speak to him.
Yet the scene between Wei Tinglan and Mr. Wei in the elevator had looked shocking at first, but thinking back… did they know each other?
Father Tao also looked over.
Wei Tinglan: “I almost fainted in the hospital earlier, he gave me a hand. He’s a kind person.”
Kind?
What kind of person would imprison his biological father, send his biological mother to a psychiatric hospital, and throw two older brothers and a nephew of similar age into prison or drive them out of the country?
Father Tao thought this, feeling both disappointed and relieved.
He reprimanded, “You were lucky this time. Mr. Wei is not someone to be provoked. Have some common sense in the future, don’t blindly lean in and bring disaster upon the family.”
Wei Tinglan didn’t bother to address that and announced, “I’m moving to the school dormitory tomorrow.”
Father Tao immediately sat upright, like a rooster ready for a fight: “Live at school? The family provides cars, food, and drink—where have we mistreated you? I haven’t settled the account with you for hitting people yet! Apologize. Not just to Chenchen, but also to the young master of the Xiao family. Do you hear me?”
In his previous life, Wei Tinglan was terrified of Father Tao’s anger, because anger meant he wasn’t liked.
But now, if you don’t like me, then you don’t.
He was just annoying, okay? Once he accepted this point, it actually felt fine—much more relaxed.
He tilted his chin toward Tao Chen’s direction.
He leaned lazily against the sofa back, fiddling with a throw pillow, and said, “Uncle Tao, don’t get so angry. Your precious son is right there. I’ll live at school, he’ll live here—we won’t cross paths, everyone will be happy.”
He added, “As for apologizing, that brat from the Xiao family bullied me first. He deserved it. Tao Chen was the one who brought him but just stood by and watched the show; he deserved it too.”
The words were quite crude, and the family wasn’t used to it, but the words were spoken with such certainty that they sounded somewhat reasonable.
Mother Tao couldn’t help but look at Tao Chen.
Tao Chen knew everything Wei Tinglan said was true, but it was an accident. Who knew that Wei Tinglan, who usually loved to shrink away in his bedroom, would suddenly go to the poolside?
Maybe it was intentional.
His eyes were still swollen as he said in a low voice, “It’s all my fault. Don’t move away. I’ll move away. I’ll leave the Tao family, I’ll go to the dormitory, anything is fine…”
With that, Wei Tinglan received the rejected glares from everyone.
Just as expected.
He smiled: “Don’t just talk, do it so I can see. You’ve shouted eight hundred times that you’re moving out, but your butt hasn’t moved an inch…”
Tao Chen trembled all over with shame, running upstairs crying, saying he was going to pack his luggage.
Wei Tinglan watched with pure amusement. The feeling of being willful—saying whatever he wanted and doing whatever he wanted—was truly wonderful.
Father Tao was furious. He instinctively raised his hand, but meeting Wei Tinglan’s indifferent gaze and remembering that a few days ago this child had specifically come to the study door to say goodnight to him, he suddenly couldn’t bring himself to do it.
Tao Xu ran upstairs to check on Tao Chen and came back saying the door was deadlocked and Tao Chen was crying very sadly.
He snatched the throw pillow from Wei Tinglan’s arms and ordered, “If you still want me as a brother, if you still want this home, go up and apologize right now!”
Mother Tao frowned: “Tinglan, stop making trouble. Chenchen has never blamed you, yet you are being so calculative…”
Wei Tinglan looked up at Tao Xu and said, “Big Brother Tao, you must be confused. Where do I have a home? Where do I have a brother? Now, get out of my way immediately. I won’t cry, and I won’t deadlock my door, but I guarantee I’ll leave here with my luggage within thirty minutes. Is that acceptable?”
Big Brother Tao versus Big Brother—the meaning was worlds apart. Tao Xu froze.
For some reason, he suddenly remembered the first time he met Wei Tinglan.
the boy was washing dishes in a back kitchen, covered in sweat. Hearing that they might be biological brothers, his eyes suddenly lit up, and he stepped back awkwardly, saying his clothes were dirty and his shoes were stained with kitchen sewage.
At that time, he was like a dirty little puppy, but his eyes were truly beautiful—as if they held stars.
After his identity was confirmed, for a period of time, he loved to follow him around. He wouldn’t speak when he caught up, just standing there like a wooden post—not very likable, but his gaze was very obedient.
Not like now, where his eyes were like a frozen winter lake—calm, cold, with no more ripples.
Tao Xu stupidly refused to move, and Wei Tinglan grew a bit annoyed.
This tall, handsome brother who got into a prestigious university was the person he had always wanted to please in his last life. He didn’t want to please him because he was outstanding, but because he was his brother—his biological brother.
But it was all just his own wishful thinking.
In his last life, Tao Xu had warned him more than once to stay away from Tao Chen, even saying he would rather he didn’t exist.
Wei Tinglan bypassed him, preparing to go upstairs.
Father Tao exploded in rage: “This is a rebellion! No one is allowed to leave! Guards, take the Third Young Master upstairs and lock him in. He won’t be let out until he admits his mistake and apologizes!”
He was determined to cure Wei Tinglan’s faults—being supercilious, arrogant, and unreasonable. How had the Wei family raised this child!
Lock him up?
Wei Tinglan’s brow lowered slightly, this was the disadvantage of not being an adult.
But it was no matter.
For someone raised on the streets, unless hands and feet were broken, how could he be trapped? However, since the Tao family cared so much about face, maybe he should call the police or something first?
Just as he was pondering, a servant ran in saying an honored guest had arrived: “He says he is Mr. Wei’s assistant, surnamed Wan.”
