After Being Seduced by a Beautiful Bad Girl Omega - Chapter 6
“Little puppy, are you being disobedient?”
Considering the risk of exposing her identity, Pei Yuan felt that she still needed to stay a bit further away from Chen Zhixu.
After all, she still hoped to walk out of the White Tower Inner City with some dignity, rather than running all the way while being hunted down by the guard unit.
Yet for some reason, along Pei Yuan’s path of staying away from beauties and preserving her little life, many stumbling blocks always managed to appear.
For example.
Just after getting off work and returning home, the system popped up. “Host, why did you not reply to her?”
The mechanical voice stated calmly, “Miss Chen already said that leaving messages unread and unanswered is very impolite.”
Pei Yuan scoffed. “Well, aren’t you something, system? Every day you help Chen Zhixu speak up, completely biased to one core. You must have had your soul hooked away by the pretty older sister, right?”
The system. “?”
The system processed the meaning of this sentence for a moment before finally replying. “My visual module does not possess aesthetic preferences and cannot judge whether someone is pretty or not.”
Pei Yuan was currently looking at the light screen, swiping Chen Zhixu’s chat interface to the side to pull up her own account balance.
A single number lay there in solitude, so small it was heartbreaking.
Pei Yuan stared at it for five seconds and said in a heavy tone. “System, there is a problem right now that is much more terrifying, much more urgent, and much more life-or-death than replying to Chen Zhixu.”
The system. “Please elaborate further.”
Pei Yuan sighed repeatedly. “I ate through last month’s salary. My current balance cannot even afford the cheapest nutrient paste.”
“Do you think that relying solely on that single meal provided by the White Tower every day will allow me to survive until the end of the month?”
The system. “Under the condition of having adequate drinking water, maintaining basic metabolism relying on just one meal is theoretically feasible.”
Pei Yuan shrugged. “Theoretically feasible, but Pei Yuan feels it is not feasible.”
She scrolled across the light screen and continued to sigh. “Besides work, are there any other ways to make money in White Tower City?”
“The quickest method should be accepting the proposal put forward by Miss Chen,” the system said. “If you get along properly, she will provide you with high-quality accommodation and meals.”
Pei Yuan frowned. “Do you think I am the kind of person who would easily throw away my dignity, sell out my pheromones, and run off to cozy up to a pretty woman just for a meal?”
The system. “I am extremely sorry, but this is the conclusion I reached after comprehensive calculation. If this has offended you.”
Pei Yuan. “You guessed right. I am.”
The system. “?”
Pei Yuan moved swiftly, reopening the chat interface with Chen Zhixu and beginning to type with fluid ease.
[Pei Yuan]: Apologies for the intrusion, Miss Chen. Tomorrow is a rest day. I wonder if you might have some free time?
[Pei Yuan]: I heard there is a restaurant named White Butterfly in Sector Six. I wonder if I might invite you to go there together? Consider it a return favor for you treating me to coffee.
The system. “”
Ever since entering the city, the system’s tone of voice had always been strictly formulaic, devoid of any emotional fluctuation.
Yet this time, that unchanging mechanical tone seemed to carry a trace of something subtle.
Probably something similar to contempt.
The system. “Host, according to my search, that restaurant belongs to private fine dining. The per capita consumption is three times your monthly salary. How do you plan to pay the bill?”
“Look at my balance and tell me, do you think I can afford it?” Pei Yuan said. “I will definitely go in, sit down, generously order a whole table, and have a hearty meal.”
“When the bill comes, I will put on a sincere, troubled, and apologetic smile, praying that the kind and beautiful Miss Chen will soften her heart and help me settle the tab.”
The system. “”
The system. “But you used the word invite in your dialogue. That usually implies that the party issuing the invitation covers the expense.”
Pei Yuan. “My invitation is on a spiritual level, while Miss Chen’s payment is on a material level. Our division of labor is clear and our cooperation is tacit. This is called being soulmates.”
She added. “No wonder the two of us can have a 98.9% compatibility rate. It all makes sense now.”
The system. “”
The system fell silent. Meanwhile, Pei Yuan stared at the chat interface, happily beginning to calculate what dishes to order tomorrow and preparing for a big feast.
Chen Zhixu’s avatar was lit up, but that typing cursor failed to appear for the longest time.
The light screen reflected upon Pei Yuan’s face. She slowly put away the smile, her brows slightly furrowed as her teeth bit down on a small section of her lower lip.
“Why isn’t she replying?”
Pei Yuan muttered under her breath.
The room was very quiet. Pei Yuan casually tapped on a song, and piano music flowed out. After listening for less than two seconds, she switched tracks.
The drumbeats started up abruptly.
She listened for two beats and turned it off again.
After repeatedly switching through seven songs, the chat interface remained empty. Pei Yuan irritably rubbed her head, stood up, and took a shower.
Steam filled the room. Pei Yuan came out wiping her dripping long hair and casually picked up her communication ring.
No new messages.
The hairdryer hummed loudly. She glanced at the communication ring, none. She blew her hair for another minute, still none.
Until Pei Yuan lay down on the bed, the prompt tone still hadn’t sounded. She shoved the communication ring under her pillow and closed her eyes.
Forget it.
When all was said and done, whether it was pheromone rank or status, the gap between the two of them was still too large.
What Chen Zhixu needed was simply a high-compatibility Alpha, not her.
Perhaps.
Underneath the pillow, with a ping sound.
Pei Yuan opened her eyes.
She lay still without moving, her heartbeat suddenly growing distinct, beating heavily against her eardrums one strike after another.
After three seconds, she finally reached her hand slowly under the pillow and fished out the communication ring.
Just a single word.
Pei Yuan stared at that word okay, the corners of her lips curving upward bit by bit.
Before she even had time to pull back her smile, a second message popped up right behind it.
Chen Zhixu: However, the consumption at White Butterfly is not low. If you don’t mind, I can treat you.
Pei Yuan froze. The next second, she chuckled softly, burying her face into the pillow. “I am feeling a little bit unresigned.”
“Miss Chen truly is polite in a way that leaves no room for criticism, seeing right through my little scheme all at once without exposing me on top of that.”
Pei Yuan smiled as she rubbed the communication ring, stared at the message for a moment, and typed out a line.
[Pei Yuan]: Then thank you in advance, Miss Chen.
[Pei Yuan]: See you tomorrow.
Pei Yuan slipped the communication ring back onto her wrist and closed her eyes. Her half-dry long hair brushed against her neck, bringing a slight, cool tickle.
The lights of the Maglev train slid past one after another, shining through the slightly lifted curtains and painting a flowing galaxy.
See you tomorrow.
Pei Yuan thought to herself.
Sector Six, also known as the Condensation District, brings together all kinds of entertainment facilities such as restaurants, theaters, and art galleries.
When the lights turn on at night, the entire district resembles a lit-up piece of glass, bright, clear, and gorgeous.
Pei Yuan rarely came here. First, the Maglev ticket price was not cheap, and second, the consumption in Sector Six was outrageously high.
Because someone spent her entire salary on food, entertainment activities like opera, dance troupes, and exhibitions were completely isolated from her.
When Pei Yuan arrived at White Butterfly, Chen Zhixu was sitting on the second-floor terrace at a small table half-hidden by climbing vines.
She wore an off-white high-necked sweater, the fabric soft and fluffy, the collar folded over to partially conceal her neckline.
Pei Yuan raised her head, looking through the climbing vines.
At her.
Amidst the dark green, only a glimpse of Chen Zhixu’s profile could be caught, elegant and proud, like a white peacock folding its long tail with a cold feather color.
Her long silver hair cascaded all the way down from her shoulders, the ends slightly curled and resting near her elbows.
Her skin was very fair, yet tinged with a thin flush at the corners of her eyes, lips, and fingertips, making her grey-blue eyes appear languid and amorous.
When Pei Yuan found her seat, Chen Zhixu was adjusting the tableware and glassware on the table. Seeing her arrive, she paused her movements.
She looked at Pei Yuan, a polite smile curving the corners of her lips. “Good morning.”
Pei Yuan pulled out a chair and sat down, smiling courteously as well. “Good morning.”
Chen Zhixu handed over the menu. “This restaurant prepares meals using real ingredients, so there might be some fluctuation in flavor.”
“I am used to nutrient paste and am not very familiar with these things. Just order whatever you like.”
Pei Yuan took the menu. “Alright.”
Chen Zhixu stood up, the back of her hand brushing aside one side of her long hair to gather it behind her shoulder. “I am going to the washroom. I will be right back.”
Pei Yuan nodded.
Watching her gradually walk away, Pei Yuan’s gaze drifted away from the menu and sneakily floated toward the opposite seat.
Chen Zhixu had arranged the dinner knife, fork, and plates very neatly. Every single item was in its most appropriate position with perfect spacing, precise like an engineering drawing.
Pei Yuan raised an eyebrow.
She glanced once more at Chen Zhixu’s back, reached out her hand, and quietly pushed the water glass half a centimeter to the right.
Seeing that the person still hadn’t returned, Pei Yuan pondered for a moment and moved her bread plate half a centimeter upward.
The system exclaimed in alarm. “So vicious!”
Pei Yuan’s lips curved. “Hehe.”
Having finished her mischief, she withdrew her hand as if nothing had happened and lowered her head to continue browsing the menu.
Two minutes later, Chen Zhixu returned.
She stopped in front of her chair, her gaze sweeping across the table, her slender brows slightly furrowed.
Without a word, Chen Zhixu moved the water cup and bread plate back to their original positions before sitting back down in the soft chair.
Pei Yuan hypocritically flipped through the menu, leaning slightly toward Chen Zhixu’s side with a sincere smile. “What would Miss Chen like to eat?”
Chen Zhixu cupped her hands together, her gaze calm. However, her jaw was somewhat tight and her lips were lightly pressed.
She looked as though she was sulking secretly.
She said, “Whatever.”
Suppressing a smile, Pei Yuan ordered a bunch of dishes she liked. After ordering, she didn’t forget to look up and ask. “And Miss Chen?”
Chen Zhixu averted her gaze toward the outside of the terrace, her voice faint. “I already said, whatever.”
She paused and added. “Dessert will do.”
Pei Yuan uttered an oh and spoke softly to the waiter for a moment. Chen Zhixu gazed at the street in silence.
Half of the second floor of White Butterfly Restaurant was a terrace, its crisscrossing white trellises covered with nameless vines.
Outside the terrace.
Was the street of Sector Six.
Vehicles shuttled by and crowds came and went. Amidst the gaps of light and shadow, on very rare occasions, silver-white butterflies could be seen.
The butterflies were very small, their wings thin and transparent, making their bodies almost invisible during flight. Only at the most stringent angle, the moment sunlight penetrated the wing veins, would a sliver of fine silver light flash.
Soon, that point of silver would submerge again into the sunlight, or into the flowing lights woven by neon and street lamps in the night, leaving no trace as though it were merely a tiny ripple of shifting light.
Perhaps it had once been there, or perhaps it had never existed at all, merely the light being too intense and burning a fleeting afterimage onto the retina.
Chen Zhixu gazed at the street, the daylight gilding her long lashes in pale gold. Her pupils shifted slightly, as if she were chasing an invisible trajectory.
Suddenly, she heard a trace of noise beside her. Footsteps and the subtle clatter of porcelain dishes.
Chen Zhixu turned her head.
The waiter stood beside the table, holding a white porcelain plate and placing it before her. “Hello, this is your dessert.”
On the plate was a piece of cake.
Three layers of soft cake sponge and fruit filling, the top layer frosted with a thick coat of fresh cream and paved with a layer of citrus jelly.
Right on top was a section of orange soaked in syrup.
Bright in color, dotted with a few pieces of candied orange peel crumbs and a small mint leaf beside it.
The fragrance of citrus wafted out. Clear, sweet, slightly tart, and intertwined with the faint floral scent among the vines.
Chen Zhixu glanced at the cake, picked up the small metal fork, and poked precisely, without deviation, right onto that small section of orange.
The pulp was poked slightly crooked.
She said, “Orange?”
Pei Yuan smiled brightly. “Miss Chen, my carefully selected citrus fresh cream cake, please enjoy.”
She blinked her eyes. “I swear, it is definitely a fresh orange, not the moldy smell like my pheromones.”
Twirling the small metal fork, Chen Zhixu leisurely used the fork tines to poke at that small section of orange over and over again.
Then, with a slight exertion of force.
The orange segment was poked crooked by her, sinking halfway into the soft cream. “Really?”
Pei Yuan swallowed hard.
For some reason, she felt like she was that orange segment, being poked back and forth by Chen Zhixu.
Pei Yuan continued to smile with an honest and obedient expression. “Hahaha, you will know once you taste it. In short, it definitely tastes better than nutrient paste.”
Chen Zhixu curved her brow, the fork tines sinking deeper into the pulp. A drop of crystal-clear juice was squeezed out, sliding down the edge of the orange segment.
“You really know how to pick.”
She smiled lightly.
Dipping the fork, Chen Zhixu dragged that small orange segment through the cake’s cream so that the cream wrapped around its curved surface, and delivered it to her lips.
The orange flesh wrapped in a thin layer of cream collapsed softly when it touched her lips, melting sweetly at the edge of her mouth.
The orange and cream were taken in together.
Moist and scalding hot.
The pulp burst open, the juice spreading between her lips and teeth with a very refreshing taste carrying a hint of tart sweetness.
A bit of white fresh cream accidentally smeared at the corner of her lips.
Chen Zhixu licked her lips, removing the cream, her slightly red lips also stained with a bit of moisture due to this tiny action.
Looking very soft.
Pei Yuan averted her eyes and picked up her cup to take a sip of water. The water was cool, but it failed to suppress the unexplained heat rising from the bottom of her heart.
She raised her hand to touch the side of her face, her fingertips sliding along the curve to her earlobe. That spot was quietly heating up.
“How does it taste?” Pei Yuan spoke up.
Chen Zhixu turned the small fork, holding the fork tines that were still stained with a bit of cream, and slowly licked them with the tip of her tongue.
“Not bad.”
Her tone was calm.
“Is that so, good then,” Pei Yuan rubbed her finger joints. “I was worried you wouldn’t like the scent of citrus, haha.”
Chen Zhixu looked her over, spun the small fork around once in her fingertips, and reversed its direction.
The fork tip traced an arc and very lightly tapped Pei Yuan’s cheek.
The metal poked against her cheek, the coolness distinct yet retaining a trace of the unfaded heat from her lips and teeth, along with a faint, elusive moisture.
Pei Yuan froze all at once.
Before she even had time to react, Chen Zhixu had already pulled back the empty fork and pressed it against her own lips.
The fork tines pressed the soft flesh at her lips into a slight depression. Chen Zhixu held the metal edge and slowly licked it with the tip of her tongue.
She looked at Pei Yuan, her long lashes curved, her grey-blue gem-like eyes holding a wisp of extremely faint amusement.
“Moldy oranges seem not bad either.”
Pei Yuan outside the White Tower was unbridled, arrogant, lawless, and blew up whatever she found annoying.
She had never panicked like this before.
Thanks to the waiter happening to appear right then, placing dishes down one after another until the entire table was covered, her at-a-loss state was masked.
Pei Yuan naturally lowered her head, eating in muffled silence and channeling all her attention into battling a piece of beef rib.
That way, she wouldn’t have to think about the coolness on her cheek just now, nor would she have to repeatedly ponder what that sentence moldy oranges seem not bad either actually meant.
Chen Zhixu continued eating that small piece of cake.
Was she looking at herself?
Pei Yuan did not know.
The wind blew in from the glass corridor roof, the vines rustled, and the faint sound of the circular Maglev train passing by came from afar.
The waiter cleared away the plates. Chen Zhixu signed the bill on the light screen, and Pei Yuan very sensibly avoided looking at that number.
Anyway, whether she looked at it or not, she couldn’t afford it.
The afternoon sunlight slanted down, drawing the shadows of the two people long as they moved one behind the other on the pavement.
Chen Zhixu walked on the left, and Pei Yuan walked on the right, separated by half an arm’s distance in the middle, neither too close nor too far.
“The cake is alright,” Chen Zhixu evaluated. “The sweetness is appropriate and the texture is delicate, better than I expected.”
“That’s good.” Pei Yuan smiled.
Chen Zhixu took two more steps and added. “However, I still lean toward nutrient paste.”
Pei Yuan raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. “Why? Judging from what you just said, you were clearly very satisfied with it.”
“It’s too troublesome,” Chen Zhixu said. “You have to make a reservation, order food, and spend nearly two hours from start to finish for a meal. Nutrient paste only takes five minutes.”
“Then, Miss Chen,” Pei Yuan slid her hands into her coat pockets and turned slightly sideways, “walking with me like this right now, isn’t that also wasting time?”
Her long boots stepped on the pavement, sound by sound, unhurriedly. Her long hair swayed lightly with her steps.
The strands of hair carried a faint fragrance, almost brushing against Pei Yuan’s hand before falling back onto her shoulder in the next instant.
“Wasting time occasionally,” Chen Zhixu’s voice carried a hint of laziness blown away by the wind, “is fine too.”
The two walked side by side toward the Maglev station. Pei Yuan dragged her steps slower, deep in thought, when a wisp of faint fragrance caught her nose.
The floral scent drifted over from afar, hooking her sense of smell elusively.
Pei Yuan paused slightly in her steps, subconsciously turning her head to glance at Chen Zhixu.
[Very similar.]
However, although it was a somewhat similar clear and light floral scent, a careful sniff revealed differences.
Chen Zhixu’s pheromones were cold and restrained, yet the closer one got, the more one could perceive a faint, moist sweetness hidden beneath that cold tone.
Pei Yuan looked in the direction of the fragrance and saw a flower shop blooming at the street corner.
The glass door was half-open, and various flower branches were stuck in flower buckets.
The stems were slender and long, the petals at the top spreading out in layers, the outer three petals drooping downward like the wing feathers of a butterfly about to take flight.
Purple, blue, yellow, white, intertwining in shades to spread out a soft expanse of color.
Pei Yuan walked over, stopped in front of the flower rack, picked and chose for a moment, and pulled out a white flower.
The petals were white and pristine, their edges tinged with a hint of silver-blue, dotted with a few round, precarious dewdrops.
Pei Yuan brought the flower close to her nose and smelled it. Clear, cool, and with a slightly crisp herbal base note.
“Boss,” she brandished the flower in her hand, “what is this called?”
The flower shop owner poked half her head out from behind the counter and took a look. “Iris.”
“Iris, white iris.”
Pei Yuan muttered the name under her breath, her fingertip sliding down the stem to stroke a slender leaf.
So her pheromones were white iris.
Footsteps sounded from behind, high-heeled boots stepping onto the platform and stopping beside her.
Chen Zhixu’s voice landed behind her ear, and that clingy floral scent also went to hook Pei Yuan’s auricle.
“Do you like flowers very much?”
Pei Yuan shook her head, lifted the white iris, and waved it in front of Chen Zhixu.
“Can’t really say I like them,” she said. “I just think the fragrance of this flower is very similar to your pheromones.”
Chen Zhixu curved her lashes, her fingertips landing softly on the iris petals held up by Pei Yuan.
The dewdrop was startled, rolling down the edge of the petal to wet her fingertips, the water glistening.
“Your nose is quite sharp,” Chen Zhixu drew out a lazy tail-end of a tone, “like a little puppy.”
Pei Yuan started, her hand gripping the flower stem tightening slightly.
Little puppy.
She called her a little puppy.
Pei Yuan opened her mouth, wanting to say something, like I am not a little puppy or Isn’t that an exaggeration.
Yet the words stopped at the tip of her tongue, swallowed back forcefully to turn into. “Miss Chen, do you like little puppies?”
Chen Zhixu shook her head leisurely. “Never raised one, don’t know.”
Pei Yuan handed the white iris to the flower shop owner, paid the money, and took the flower branches wrapped in thin paper.
The system, which had been very quiet all along, suddenly popped up. “Host, buying flower bouquets for an Omega during a date is usually regarded as expressing affection.”
Pei Yuan made a tsk sound in her heart.
“First, this is not a date; I just came out for a free meal. Second, who said this flower is for Chen Zhixu? I bought this for myself.”
The system. “How unexpected. Aside from food, you actually managed to bring yourself to spend money on other things.”
Pei Yuan. “Too much, I am actually very romantic on occasion.”
The two left the flower shop and continued walking along the street.
The sunlight fell on the clean and tidy street like a layer of spread gold foil, brilliant.
However, after taking only a few steps, Pei Yuan suddenly reached out her hand to block in front of Chen Zhixu. “Wait a moment.”
Pei Yuan motioned for her to look over. “Over there.”
Ahead, at the street corner two hundred meters away, pedestrians were unanimously bypassing a small open space.
A young Alpha was kneeling there.
Clutching her collar, her forehead covered in sweat, her chest heaving violently, her breathing hurried and chaotic.
Pei Yuan didn’t even need to get close to judge.
Her pheromones were out of control.
Even across this distance, a restless aura already permeated the air, full of choking rust smell that tightened one’s nerves.
Staggering, the youth knocked over a bucket of flowers by the roadside. Panting heavily, she stepped on scattered flowers and barely managed to steady herself against the wall.
Pedestrians whispered among themselves; some covered their mouths and noses, while others pulled those beside them to avoid her quickly.
The youth still retained a sliver of rationality, knowing she shouldn’t stay in a crowded place. Holding the back of her neck, she stumbled into an alley on the right.
Scarcely half a minute later, neat footsteps sounded from the other end of the street.
The White Tower guards had arrived.
Their grey-silver uniforms were neat and uniform, silver chains casting a cold glint. Their pace was fast yet orderly, rapidly cutting through the crowd.
The streets of Sector Six were complex with at least three intersections where they stood, but the guards did not stop nor ask anyone for information.
Without hesitation, they turned right and entered that alley.
Pei Yuan gazed in the direction where the guards had disappeared, frowned, and muttered softly under her breath.
“What is it?” Chen Zhixu asked.
Pei Yuan shrugged. “Nothing, I just think the guards arrived awfully fast, knowing which way that person ran without even asking.”
She added, acting as if she didn’t care. “Is it because of the existence of the Eye of Order?”
Chen Zhixu gazed at the alley the guards had entered and gave a shallow mm.
Pei Yuan put on her signature honest-folksy smile again. “Miss Chen, I am an outsider and don’t know much about White Tower City.”
“But I heard that the Eye of Order is the core of the White Tower and the foundation upon which the entire city operates.”
“Opinions are varied, though, so I’ve always wanted to know what kind of thing it actually is.”
Chen Zhixu gazed at her with a profound look, taking a step forward so that the distance between them quietly shortened. “Are you curious?”
The serene and elegant white iris fragrance wrapped around her once more, infused with a hint of sticky sweetness.
Pei Yuan nodded. “Mm.”
Chen Zhixu stroked her face, her fingertips soft and warm as she gently traced the flesh of Pei Yuan’s cheek.
“Then look over there.”
Her tone was gentle.
Pei Yuan’s breath tightened, her gaze thus unconsciously guided by Chen Zhixu’s hand to turn toward the left.
At the top of a lamp post by the street, embedded between metal seams, was an extremely small, almost imperceptible red dot.
It watched the street.
It watched them.
Within the lens, the faces of the two people were framed, identified, and tagged; identity information, physiological data, and pheromone status were extracted, cross-referenced, and archived within microseconds.
Silent and instantaneous.
The red eye flashed once and then dimmed, gazing at them quietly like a spectator that never needed to blink.
“That is the Eye of Order.”
Chen Zhixu said softly, her breath sweeping across Pei Yuan’s auricle while the iris fragrance silently spread to wrap around the most sensitive ring of cartilage.
“Come now.”
“Say hello to her.”
The two of them were leaning too close, close enough that their breaths intertwined. Pei Yuan’s heartbeat uncontrollably quickened, pounding heavier with each strike.
Thump, thump, thump, thump.
Beating violently beside her ear.
At that instant, Pei Yuan suddenly couldn’t quite tell whether she was nervous because she was worried about her identity being exposed, or because Chen Zhixu was leaning too close.
Leaning against Pei Yuan’s shoulder, Chen Zhixu suddenly chuckled softly. “How strange. The Eye of Order doesn’t seem to like you very much, Miss Pei.”
Her fingertip slowly slid downward from her cheek to her jaw, leaving a burning trace, lingering yet detached.
“She detests any disguise, concealment, or deception; she only likes well-behaved, obedient good children.”
“Little puppy, are you being disobedient?”
She asked.
