After Being Reborn, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessed - Chapter 67
“This video… didn’t Lin Duxi agree to release it? She didn’t object, did she?” The voice on the other end of the phone was quiet, yet it reached An Yu’s ears clearly.
She unconsciously curled the fingers of the hand holding her phone, unable to believe it.
Ning Xuan on the other end continued, puzzled: “I told you before that I wanted to get in touch with Lin Duxi’s team, right? A few days ago, her team contacted me. They were very willing to cooperate with us and even proactively showed me this video to discuss the release timing on the official ‘Hello, Friend’ account. I thought Lin Duxi had already told you about it.”
An Yu suppressed the surge of emotions inside her, keeping her expression neutral: “I’ve been focusing on studying the script these past few days, maybe I didn’t notice.”
“That’s good. I was wondering, since you and Lin Duxi are neighbors, she probably thought it was a small matter.”
After hanging up, An Yu handed the phone back to her assistant, leaned back in her chair, and sighed lightly. A feeling swept over her body, a mixture of emotions—sour, tingling, and suffused with sentiment.
She shook her head, forcing down the mess of emotions, and concentrated on studying the script in front of her.
Director Tan Yiyan was meticulous in her work. She would only shoot a drama after thoroughly refining the script. Because of this, her dramas were high quality but had a slow production pace.
An Yu wanted to free herself from the exploitation of her current agency, and to do that, she had to secure the role in Tan Yiyan’s script.
The audition was held in a relatively large studio. Tan Yiyan sat across from her, glasses perched on her nose, seriously flipping through the script. She only glanced up lightly when An Yu entered.
The scene An Yu had to perform was that of a princess whose kingdom had fallen, personally destroying her enemies. It was a mix of satisfaction and the pain of realizing her beloved had been using her. The role required intense emotional shifts, testing the actor’s skill.
An Yu had previously rehearsed this scene with Lin Duxi, who played the heartbroken protagonist. The red-rimmed eyes of Lin Duxi deeply imprinted on An Yu’s mind; even now, remembering them caused a tight, relentless ache.
Though performing alone now, An Yu vividly imagined Lin Duxi’s character, red-eyed and questioning in pain. Her emotions mirrored and amplified those on set.
Tan Yiyan had been reading the script, but as soon as she heard An Yu’s lines, she looked up sharply, her eyes focused on her. Unknown to others, a faint smile appeared on her lips—the first of the day.
The audition lasted only three minutes. The audience applauded unanimously. Tan Yiyan squinted slightly, resting her chin on her hands.
“An Yu, I really admire your performance. I can see the careful preparation you’ve put into this role, and your emotional control is impressive. I’m looking forward to working with you.”
An Yu’s heart surged, but she remained polite: “Thank you, Director Tan.”
The meeting room door creaked open, and the assistant, who had been waiting outside, rushed over. Seeing An Yu’s dazed expression, her heart sank.
“An Jie, this time wasn’t successful… we still have other opportunities. Other directors have contacted you too,” she said, trying to reassure her.
An Yu’s lips curved slightly: “What are you thinking? I passed.”
The assistant gasped, then burst with excitement: “Really? That’s amazing! I’ll tell Ning Xuan right away—she must be nervous now!” She pulled out her phone and ran to a secluded corner to report.
An Yu looked up at the sky and smiled. Something long suppressed in her heart had finally been accomplished, and her breathing became lighter.
Yes, she needed to share this with Lin Duxi.
The car stopped at the community entrance as instructed by An Yu. She got out and watched it turn the corner and disappear before heading to the security room.
She opened the door, and the security guards, who had been waiting, handed her a USB drive.
“Miss An, these are the surveillance recordings from the community after the previous incident. We’ve identified that the black-clad man who harassed Miss Lin entered from the northeast corner of the community. That gate is rarely used, so he likely took advantage of the night shift being relaxed. We’ve now added a guard post there and installed additional cameras at the four corners. Please rest assured.”
An Yu nodded and put the USB in her pocket before leaving. Her furrowed brows weren’t for the security but for the black-clad man.
Although she knew how he had sneaked in, she still didn’t know how he found out Lin Duxi’s address or his motives. She couldn’t let her guard down.
Back home, An Yu inserted the USB into her computer and briefly checked the footage, then sent the clearest segment of the man’s face to Ning Xuan.
[An Yu:] Ning Jie, help me check who this is.
[Ning Xuan:] Who is he? What happened?
[An Yu:] He might be Lin Duxi’s obsessive fan, or perhaps her rival—someone who threatens her.
[Ning Xuan:] Shouldn’t Lin Duxi investigate this herself? Why ask me?
[An Yu:] Didn’t you just say that Lin Duxi and I are basically a bundled CP now? Whether she investigates or I do, it’s the same. Please, Ning Jie, help me check.
[Ning Xuan:] I can’t stand your tricky mouth. Fine, I’ll try.
[An Yu:] Thanks, Ning Jie! (heart emoji)
After commissioning Ning Xuan, An Yu dressed again and went to Lin Duxi’s door, knocking.
It didn’t take long for the door to open. Lin Duxi stood before her in loose home clothes, wearing an apron.
“Ah Yu, congratulations on passing the audition,” she said with a smile.
“How did you know I passed? Did Ning Jie tell you?”
Lin Duxi took An Yu’s hand and led her inside, lightly pressing her palm against An Yu’s chest when she wasn’t paying attention.
“Because, Ah Yu, we’re in sync,” she said.
An Yu smiled: “I wanted to tell you in person.”
Lin Duxi closed the door, turning to face An Yu: “It’s not too late. You’re so happy—I think we should celebrate.” She removed her apron and guided An Yu to sit in a chair.
“The food’s ready, just waiting for you.”
She picked up two bottles of alcohol from the cabinet. An Yu frowned, recalling the previous times Lin Duxi had gotten headaches after drinking.
“Do you want to drink?”
“A little, to celebrate Ah Yu, okay?” She tugged lightly at An Yu’s clothes, her gaze irresistible.
An Yu couldn’t resist and agreed, though she kept a careful eye on her.
However, she misjudged Lin Duxi. Happy and excited, Lin Duxi finished one bottle before An Yu could notice. An Yu hurried over to stop her.
“Ah Yu, do you want some?” Lin Duxi smiled and poured a small amount for her.
An Yu saw the nearly empty cup and sighed.
Trying to prevent Lin Duxi from drinking more, she drank first whenever she poured, until the other bottle was nearly gone.
An Yu’s alcohol tolerance was high from previous life experience, though she didn’t drink often now. Lin Duxi’s drink was strong, leaving An Yu slightly tipsy, thinking about going home to sleep later.
Her vision blurred as she quietly sat. She was still pondering why Lin Duxi seemed… larger in her eyes, when suddenly, a weight landed on her legs.
Lin Duxi’s arm wrapped around her neck, one hand lifting her chin, brushing her fair cheek, coloring her side face with a blush. Her voice, husky and tender, overflowed with emotion.
“You’re still the same, cute even when drunk.” She pressed her lips lightly against An Yu’s, whispering sincere words, and nibbled her soft ear.
An Yu squinted, savoring her touch, lips curving slightly, hands resting gently on her back.
Lin Duxi shifted, revealing her fair collarbone.
She cupped An Yu’s cheeks, kissing her devotedly, fingers entwining with hers, the other hand guiding her wrist downward.
Warm, moist, moonlight streaming through the window, brushing their scattered clothes.
An Yu’s eyes snapped open, withdrawing her fingers as if burned, her mind clearing for a moment.
Lin Duxi paused, eyes moist, brows slightly drooping, looking a little aggrieved.
An Yu panted slightly, struggling to recognize the person in front of her: “No… not now.”
Lin Duxi froze, then raised her eyes, tears brimming, as if even a blink might release the crystal-clear drops.
“Not now?”
An Yu’s breath hitched, realizing her words had hurt Lin Duxi. She tried to explain, ignoring the awkward position:
“I’m drunk… I can’t… we haven’t confirmed our relationship.”
Lin Duxi’s eyes widened. She seemed to find a way to test who An Yu was thinking of, so she suppressed her emotions, cupping An Yu’s cheeks and speaking softly:
“Who would find out, Ah Yu? Tell me, okay? I want to be with you.”
Previously, An Yu would always agree. This time, she was a bit hesitant.
Unexpectedly, An Yu shook her head, lips trembling.
“No… it would be discovered… you’d get hurt… I…”
Lin Duxi’s heart skipped. She sensed the truth behind An Yu’s words and pressed gently, whispering in her ear:
“Who would find out, Ah Yu? Just us here, no one will see. Be with me, okay?”
An Yu shook her head again.
“Be discovered… Duxi would be discovered… get hurt… can’t.”
Her chest pounded violently. Lin Duxi realized she could almost identify the person behind An Yu’s hesitation.
“Who would find out? Ah Yu, tell me, okay?”
Then she stared at An Yu, watching her trembling lips, uttering a few words.
In an instant, Lin Duxi’s blood seemed frozen.
She couldn’t hear what An Yu was saying, nor see her lips clearly.
