After Being Reborn, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessed - Chapter 63
Pei Lu originally intended to invite Lin Duxi to a restaurant, then use his charm to persuade her to accompany him to a jewelry gala. If she still refused, he would offer a business collaboration as leverage. With coercion and incentives combined, success was guaranteed, leaving him a safe fallback.
He planned to spend a whole day slowly wearing Lin Duxi down. However, An Yu’s appearance completely disrupted his plan. She was like an uncontrollable bomb, or a magnet attracting Lin Duxi; with her around, all of Pei Lu’s strategies unraveled.
Pei Lu looked at Lin Duxi and saw a depth of affection and indulgence in her eyes he had never seen before. His face instantly turned green with jealousy, his envy making him almost unrecognizable.
An Yu stood at the entrance of the garden restaurant, carefully scanning the surroundings. Besides a few scattered white-collar workers downstairs, only the three of them were inside. It seemed Pei Lu had reserved the entire upper garden restaurant, making his intentions obvious.
“Don’t misunderstand, I’m here to pick up Lin Duxi.”
At this, both of their gazes instantly turned to her. Pei Lu’s eyes sharpened with caution, but Lin Duxi smiled, her eyes full of indulgence.
An Yu quickly averted her gaze. “Lin Duxi’s driver called in sick today, so I’m filling in,” she said, delivering the lie fluently and naturally. Pei Lu looked at Lin Duxi in disbelief, and Lin Duxi slightly nodded to confirm it was true.
Retracting her gaze, An Yu caught Lin Duxi’s eyes briefly, then calmly walked over and sat at the table beside Lin Duxi and Pei Lu. She then called the waiter.
“Hello, a cup of coffee, please.” Her finger lightly tapped the iced coffee on the menu, completely ignoring the two men beside her.
The waiter quickly approached. Despite it still being autumn, she felt a cold so sharp it cut to the bone—Pei Lu’s aura.
“I’m sorry, miss, this gentleman has reserved the entire area.” She approached An Yu apologetically, but upon seeing her face, she gasped. This was unmistakably An Yu!
The waiter glanced around nervously at Lin Duxi and Pei Lu, then back at An Yu, remembering the recent online popularity of their rumored pairing, and fell silent.
“It’s okay, she’s someone I know,” Lin Duxi said, resting her head on her hand, looking at An Yu with interest.
“You’re sick, you shouldn’t drink iced drinks,” Lin Duxi scolded gently, “please give her a hot cocoa instead.”
An Yu turned her head, hiding her expression from Lin Duxi. She didn’t protest, tacitly agreeing. The waiter stole another glance at the scene, then hurriedly left, closing the garden door behind her.
The whole scene unfolded swiftly. The two of them, seemingly without words, conducted a silent exchange of understanding. Pei Lu, shocked, couldn’t comprehend it, which made him furious; he wanted to tear An Yu apart.
He turned to Lin Duxi, but her attention was entirely elsewhere, still tilted toward An Yu with a smile. When she noticed his gaze, Lin Duxi turned her head, her smile disappearing, leaving only a serious, detached demeanor.
“Mr. Pei, have you finished?”
Pei Lu’s face turned red with anger. An Yu had completely disrupted his plan, and he didn’t know what spell she had cast on Lin Duxi! Taking a deep breath, he tried to speak politely:
“Xiao Xi, I think there may have been some misunderstanding. I sincerely invite you to be my companion. To show my sincerity, here.”
He handed over a contract. Lin Duxi skimmed it—it was for a position as the next-quarter brand ambassador for an international brand he endorsed. He was really going all out this time.
Lin Duxi smiled, closing the contract. “I’ll need some time to think about this and will let you know later, Mr. Pei. Also, please call me Lin Duxi. I don’t think we’re that familiar.”
Pei Lu was still dissatisfied. With An Yu beside her, she was like a hidden bomb—he needed Lin Duxi’s immediate consent. He posed a pleading expression and reached to take Lin Duxi’s hand, but she withdrew it and clasped her hands under her chin.
Pei Lu froze, barely keeping his composure.
An Yu lightly stirred her hot cocoa, seeming lost in thought, but through the reflection in the glass, she clearly saw both their actions. Seeing Lin Duxi withdraw her hand, she couldn’t help but laugh.
Pei Lu was furious, awkwardly retracting his hand. He picked up his coffee. “Xiao Xi, I don’t know what others have told you, but I want you to understand, my heart and feelings for you are constant, forever. Last time during the show, you slapped me, and I didn’t get mad even though my face was swollen for days. I truly love you.”
He reached out again to hold Lin Duxi’s hand. Lin Duxi recalled what he said to An Yu in the jungle during the show. Her detached expression instantly became cold, her eyes radiating a chilling aura.
Just as she was about to pull back, a warm splash passed in front of her, accompanied by a familiar yet playful female voice.
“Ah, sorry, Mr. Pei, I accidentally spilled this on you,” An Yu said, her expression not remotely apologetic.
Hot cocoa drenched Pei Lu—his hair, face, and suit. He had been focused solely on Lin Duxi and couldn’t dodge the spill; the sweet, scalding liquid filled the space around him. He furrowed his brow in frustration, staring at An Yu, who calmly looked back without moving.
“An Yu! You did that on purpose!” he growled.
An Yu flailed her hands, pretending to be startled, and sat next to Lin Duxi. “I just remembered a news article I saw a few days ago about a certain actor surnamed Pei spending the night at a hotel with a female star and leaving together the next day. It was funny, so my hand slipped and spilled the cocoa.”
“Lin, I hope you’re not upset. It got on you,” she added, seriously dabbing the edge of Lin Duxi’s sleeve. Lin Duxi’s eyes glimmered.
Pei Lu’s throat tightened—he hated being exposed. Ignoring the cocoa soaking him, he hurriedly said, “Xiao Xi, don’t believe her nonsense. My heart belongs only to you.”
An Yu squeezed Lin Duxi’s hand tightly, unable to restrain herself. She threw a crumpled napkin at Pei Lu’s face. The napkin stuck to the cocoa on his face.
“You idiot! If you’re sick, go to a mental hospital. Stop torturing my ears and eyes. Slapping one side of your face was too lenient; I should have done both to mix your flour and water evenly.”
Lin Duxi wrapped an arm around her shoulder, leaning her head against An Yu’s shoulder with a smile.
Pei Lu was shocked. He tore the napkin off his face and threw it to the ground. “An Yu, how dare you talk to me like that! You think the entertainment industry is boring now? Xiao Xi, trust me, my love for you is witnessed by heaven and earth, the sun and moon!”
An Yu: “It’s cloudy today.”
Lin Duxi leaned on her shoulder and giggled lightly. An Yu felt her anger dissipate.
Pei Lu stared at Lin Duxi on An Yu’s shoulder, his eyes red with rage. “Xiao Xi, you know better than I do who attends Du Qianshu’s jewelry gala. Going with me is mutually beneficial, surely.”
He wiped the cocoa from his face with a napkin and hesitated for half a second before picking up the contract.
“In short, going with me has only benefits. If you don’t agree, I understand, but there may not be this many people.” He forced a smile, half-threatening, and turned to leave—but An Yu called him.
“Pei Lu, do you know why I didn’t slap the other side of your face?” she asked faintly, her vision blurred from increasing pain, and she closed her eyes.
Pei Lu paused.
“Because you have something on your face, and I don’t want to dirty my hands.”
Pei Lu gasped, his face flushing as he saw An Yu resting her eyes.
“You’re amazing, An Yu! Truly amazing!” he growled, then left without looking back.
As the garden door closed, An Yu’s strength drained completely, and she collapsed onto Lin Duxi.
Lin Duxi supported her, one hand on her forehead—scorching hot.
“An Yu, your head is burning. Let’s go to the hospital, okay?” She shakily dialed the hospital.
An Yu’s mind was filled with the system’s countdown tones; she couldn’t hear Lin Duxi’s voice. She grabbed Lin Duxi’s hand, pressing it to her forehead.
“The mission ends in one minute. Please proceed quickly… detected host behavior insulting the main character. Punishment will be applied after mission ends. Time remaining: fifty-three seconds, fifty-two seconds…”
“Lin Duxi, about the gala, follow your heart,” she whispered, feeling a cooling sensation.
Lin Duxi gently massaged her temples. “Let’s not talk about that now. Let’s go to the hospital. Your forehead is burning.”
An Yu heard her and smiled faintly, her objective accomplished. She closed her eyes, awaiting the final judgment.
“Mission remaining: five seconds. Countdown: five, four, three, two, one. Mission failed. System will enter punishment mode in three seconds. Three, two, one.”
“Punishment mode activated.”
The system immediately exploded! (Furious)
