- After Being Possessed by the Transmigrated Heroine
- Chapter 4 - They Can't Possibly Discover You’re a Transmigrator...
Although this was her third time transmigrating into a book, Zhuang Han was still somewhat shaken after receiving the female lead’s identity information and the plot summary. This start was even more “Hell Mode” than the one she encountered in her first transmigration.
The female lead, Bai Niao, was an extremely arrogant and willful fake heiress. She was materialistic, vain, vulgar, and foolish a complete “love brain” who had committed countless misdeeds for a fiancé who didn’t love her. During her time as a young lady of the house, she had managed to offend every single person around her. Consequently, when her identity was exposed and she was kicked out, not a single person spoke up for her. She fell from her high pedestal, no longer the influential Miss Zhong.
However, a female lead is still a female lead. After losing everything, she was still doted on and protected by a group of powerful elite male leads. Logically, with so many “chosen ones” safeguarding her, her life should have been smooth sailing. But even in her downfall, she refused to exercise restraint. Not only did she show zero gratitude toward those supporting her, but she remained terrifyingly haughty and a constant source of trouble.
The male leads were all top-tier elites; no matter how good their temperaments, they couldn’t possibly indulge her every whim all day long. This time, the first male lead, He Yueting, had specifically arranged a gathering to raise her social standing and help her return to the Zhong family, only for her to ruin it entirely without even asking questions. He was livid when he heard the news, yet the female lead remained as arrogant as ever. She couldn’t even weave a proper excuse; her stupidity was laughable.
Bai Niao’s status was awkward, and she had no means of making a living, relying entirely on the male leads’ support to maintain her former lavish lifestyle. The more Zhuang Han read, the more bitter the smile on her lips became. She couldn’t even imagine how Bai Niao would survive if the male leads ever abandoned her. Those raising her wouldn’t treat her kindly forever, while her enemies possessed infinite patience.
One could only say that, as a final mission, this was truly a “pure hell” start. Fortunately, once this quest was successful, everything would end; she would become the female lead, fully inherit everything she owned, and live out this life.
After finishing the briefing, Zhuang Han looked at the photo of the female lead in the files. After all, this would be her body from now on, and looks were very important. The person in the photo was delicate and exquisite, as soft and beautiful as a flower. A stunning face, curled lashes, and even a small mole near her collarbone was perfectly placed. It was hard to say where the female lead would find the courage to be so arrogant if she didn’t have this face as capital.
Zhuang Han was very satisfied with this face. Her original appearance was merely pleasant, and though she had many male friends, there was a gap between her and a top-tier beauty like the female lead. Since her death in a car accident, Zhuang Han had successfully completed two transmigration missions. Though this task was hard, a “final mission” needed a bit of difficulty to be interesting. Besides, who wouldn’t be happy to suddenly become a super-beautiful protagonist?
Zhuang Han adjusted very quickly. She wiped her face and stood up from the floor. She placed her hand on the door and knocked gently, her voice soft: “Mr. He, I know I was wrong. Take me to see Father and Mother; I’ll go and apologize to them.”
Bai Niao was cowardly and afraid of the dark, but her personality was as stubborn as could be. She would submit to He Yueting quickly, but hearing her apologize to others was harder than reaching the heavens.
The people outside were stunned for a moment. He Yueting, sitting on the long sofa, slightly raised his eyes. His slender knuckles tapped against his teacup. After a brief silence, he spoke indifferently: “Open the door for her.”
The assistant had been pleading for Bai Niao for a long time. Hearing this, he looked delighted and said repeatedly, “Yes, sir.”
Watching all of this from within, Bai Niao’s heart was anything but calm. She was so angry she was practically smoking, wanting nothing more than to jump up and slap this imposter and the system that had possessed her body.
What do you mean materialistic and vain? What do you mean vulgar and foolish?
Looking at the summary provided by the system, Bai Niao was fuming. Hearing the imposter speak to He Yueting like that, her rage reached its peak. She would never bow her head to those “beasts in human clothing” of the Zhong family, much less apologize to them.
Bai Niao was so anxious and angry she almost forgot her instinctive fear of the dark. When the door was opened from the outside, she felt no joy at being rescued; she only wanted to kick the door shut. But her body was no longer under her control.
Zhuang Han looked up, her gaze fixed unblinkingly on He Yueting as she called out softly, “Mr. He.”
She was bright and dazzling, cheerful and gentle. With her “little sunshine” personality, she had already successfully conquered two villainous male leads. This mission was highly difficult, but Zhuang Han didn’t believe she couldn’t complete it.
He Yueting stood by the floor-to-ceiling window. His eyelids lifted slightly, but his expression suddenly became unreadable. With the light behind him, his tall figure looked exceptionally handsome, exuding a noble air that couldn’t be hidden. Even a fool could see who the protagonist was in this group. Countless people would be willing to rush toward him like moths to a flame for his status, his power, and his aura.
But Bai Niao only feared He Yueting.
Sensing that instinctive dread, Zhuang Han was confused for a split second, but she quickly overcame that strange emotion and walked toward He Yueting. He was so powerful and intimidating. Yet, the moment she looked up and met He Yueting’s eyes, Zhuang Han had only one thought: his looks are perhaps a bit too handsome.
Bai Niao stayed inside her own body, watching the imposter curry favor with He Yueting and then apologize to the Zhong family. Her nose was nearly crooked with rage.
Zhuang Han smiled as she looked at Zhong Ling: “It’s so wonderful that Sister can understand me.”
She was graceful and poised, acting like a true lady of a great house—the kind of high-born young lady everyone liked: gentle, bright, dazzling but not overwhelming.
The Zhong family, usually aloof, didn’t say much to this version of Zhuang Han. Zhong Ling pursed her lips and said, “It’s nothing, Sister.”
Zhuang Han breathed a sigh of relief in her heart. “I thought they were difficult,” she said with a smile. “Turns out they aren’t that hard to handle.”
The mechanical voice of the system was also full of joy. “Host is truly amazing,” it chirped. “Conquering the male leads is just a matter of time.”
Hearing Zhuang Han talking smugly with the system, Bai Niao grew even angrier. Although she didn’t know what was going on with Zhuang Han and the system, it was clear both were big idiots. These two fools didn’t actually think the Zhong family was giving them face, did they? It was entirely because He Yueting was sitting right there that the Zhong family bowed their heads.
But the thought of her body apologizing and submitting to them made Bai Niao want to die of anger. She stayed in her body, desperately wanting to do something to vent her temper, but she could do nothing. She could only watch everything like a bird in a cage.
He Yueting didn’t stay long. His fingers hooked into his tie as he straightened it: “Stay here. If anything happens, tell Assistant Fang.”
He Yueting’s eyes lifted slightly, his tone nonchalant. However, there was a trace of irritability and an unreadable emotion in his pupils. Bai Niao’s body couldn’t help but tremble; as long as he wasn’t smiling, she couldn’t suppress her fear. Even when He Yueting smiled gently, she was still afraid.
But Zhuang Han performed perfectly. She tilted her head, her smile brilliant: “Okay, Mr. He.”
He Yueting looked at her for a moment, said nothing more, and stood up to leave. Once he left, Bai Niao breathed a sigh of relief. If she had been in control, He Yueting would have surely noticed something though she didn’t know what she was feeling guilty about.
Zhuang Han’s expression always seemed calm, a smile constantly on her face. Zhong Ling poured some black tea and pushed it toward her: “Try some, Sister.”
Bai Niao hated this imposter who had stolen her body and loathed her sycophancy toward the Zhong family, but she truly envied this sense of calm. If only I could be like that. I could definitely trample those bastards under my feet. But then, remembering she didn’t even have a body anymore, Bai Niao felt even more dejected.
Zhong Ling had a good temperament. Even though she had been cursed at by Bai Niao earlier, as soon as Zhuang Han apologized, Zhong Ling forgave her.
Zhuang Han lowered her head and smiled: “Thank you, Sister.” She reached out, but when her knuckles touched the fine white porcelain, she suddenly slipped. Zhong Ling quickly steadied the tray so the cup didn’t hit the ground, but much of the tea splashed out.
Bai Niao, who had been dazing out, was suddenly jolted awake. Most of the tea had spilled onto her dress. The tea was scalding, and the pain made her hiss.
Zhong Ling’s lips moved, her face pale. Ignoring the back of her own hand which had been scalded, she instinctively explained, “It wasn’t me just now…”
Bai Niao was extremely delicate; if it were her, she would have already started crying and cursing. But Zhuang Han instead took hold of Zhong Ling’s hand. She pursed her lips and said in a low voice, “I’m sorry, my hand slipped.”
She seemed calm, but the end of her sentence wavered slightly. It was only then that Bai Niao discovered the imposter’s palms were covered in cold sweat.
At the same time, the system’s voice rang out timidly: “Host, don’t be afraid. The characters in the book cannot possibly discover that you are a transmigrator.”
Bai Niao was confused, but she suddenly thought of the look in He Yueting’s eyes when he left. She realized, belatedly, that he hadn’t kissed or hugged her at all just now.
Bai Niao stayed with the Zhong family all afternoon and had dinner with them. He Yueting had apparently arranged for other guests, but for some reason, they never showed up.
Bai Niao couldn’t be bothered with pleasantries; if no one came, she was only happier. Although she had just stayed inside her body doing nothing all day, she felt tired. She just wanted to soak comfortably in the bathtub and have a good hot bath.
Wherever she was, Bai Niao’s things were always well-stocked, and the servants knew her habits. With one command, she could be eating desserts, playing video games, and soaking in hot water.
But Zhuang Han knew nothing. She chatted with the system for a long time and then stayed in the bedroom reading. There was a wall of books in Bai Niao’s room, including many French originals. He Yueting wanted to cultivate Bai Niao’s literary soul, but she would at most look at manga. She had never voluntarily opened a single “serious” book.
Bai Niao would fall asleep just looking at those thick volumes, but now, bored out of her mind, she could only read along with Zhuang Han. She had only just learned that this imposter was named Zhuang Han. Not only is she wicked enough to steal someone’s body, but her name isn’t even as pretty as mine.
While Bai Niao was mentally cursing and “stabbing voodoo dolls” of Zhuang Han, her body could do nothing. After cursing Zhuang Han for a while, she could only dejectedly read with her.
Perhaps her resentment was too heavy, because after nearly two hours, Zhuang Han finally put the book down, turned off the lights, and went to sleep. Bai Niao cheered and closed her eyes. She had been exhausted all day; last night had been late, and she’d been woken up early by Gao Zhan. It was a miracle she hadn’t fallen asleep while with the Zhong family.
Soon after closing her eyes, Bai Niao fell into a deep sleep.
When she opened her eyes again, it was an unknown amount of time later. The man’s face was both familiar and strange. For a split second, Bai Niao thought she was in a dream, but seeing the slight annoyance in his eyes, she suddenly became clear-headed.
Wearing a white camisole dress, she sat up. Before realizing she could control her body, she habitually climbed onto his neck and called out softly: “Brother.”
