- Chapter 2 - The Meeting: Our Pheromones Are a Perfect Match
“Did you sign me up for another matchmaking session?”
Inside Kelson Castle, the black-haired male Zerg, clad in a tight black combat suit, removed his armor.
He had black hair and black eyes, standing at least one meter eighty-seven. His entire being seemed sculpted from ice. His brows were sharp, and his pair of black eyes looked as if they had been soaked in a frozen pool, carrying a chilling aura even when he looked at someone.
The silver-white helmet spun around in his hand before being tucked under his waist.
He frowned: “Grandfather, I don’t like blind dates.”
“Who does?”
The male Zerg sitting at the head of the table was of advanced age. Looking at his promising but stubborn descendant, he said with a mix of frustration and expectation: “The contribution points you earned were gained by risking your life. Do you think I am happy to throw them away for nothing? But your mental power mania has been getting worse lately. If you do not find a male Zerg to soothe you, you will sooner or later turn into a crazed Zerg!”
The black-haired male Zerg was noncommittal.
He pursed his lips and explained calmly: “This is a manifestation of mental power overload. Going to the battlefield a few more times and killing a few alien beasts is more effective for my relief than any male Zerg.”
“How can that be the same!” The head of the Kelson family possessed the strongest mental power suppression among the Zerg currently. Under his warning, Adonis groaned and knelt on one knee.
However, driven by his dignity, he did not slump his back. Even though he kept his head down, he stubbornly held his neck straight, refusing to yield.
Silence began to spread.
Donald looked at his most beloved grandchild.
Adonis had been an adult for a long time. Prolonged combat had caused significant fluctuations in his mental power ratings. Furthermore, his method of slaughtering alien beasts in the mining areas was so brutal that his rating went off the charts, earning him the “Blood Medal” issued by the Main Brain.
This was not a good thing.
Throughout the history of the Zerg Star, all those who had received the Blood Medal were renowned gods of slaughter. Many of them, in their later years, had killed their own male Zerg partners because they could not suppress their mental rampages; their danger levels were extremely high.
It was precisely because of this that the approval for Adonis to be promoted to General had been repeatedly delayed.
Donald paced back and forth in the hall. He certainly hoped the family would have another excellent male General, but he was more concerned about his descendant’s health.
Because Adonis had lost his mother at a young age, Donald had never been overly strict with him, but he had not expected him to be so defiant about matters like this.
The Main Brain had matched him for dozens of blind dates; he would either refuse directly and throw the male Zerg’s information into the trash, or he would show up fresh from the battlefield, covered in blood he had not even bothered to wash off, cold and solemn, scaring the male Zerg until their legs went weak and they slapped a big red “X” on his matching evaluation.
Now, the Main Brain had revoked his matching authority; not a single male Zerg could search for him.
Yet, Adonis seemed to enjoy the peace and quiet.
This stubborn grandson really caused him endless worry.
Donald snorted: “You are going whether you want to or not!”
Leaning on his cane, he commanded: “I have already paid the fee. Tomorrow at four in the afternoon, at Wilson’s Tavern, he will be waiting for you there.”
Donald handed Adonis a photo and turned to leave.
Adonis lowered his gaze.
The photo showed a very clean face, but with a head of flamboyant pink hair.
Deep in his eyes, a wine-red light shimmered, and his eyes were round and bright.
Like a colorful butterfly.
The kind that knows very well how to manipulate others.
Wouldn’t such a pretty creature know how to use his own appearance to deceive male Zergs?
Many would likely be lining up to fall into his trap.
But Adonis was not swayed.
He threw the photo under a plaster statue, put on his helmet, and began to summon his mecha.
Donald ignored his resistance and shouted a warning: “I will send someone to keep an eye on you!”
The door closed behind him.
Adonis leaped and stood atop his mecha.
In the gusting wind, he looked back at the vast estate and the luxuriously built castle within it.
This was the empire he had built through countless life-and-death battles.
He did not want any male Zerg to invade his private space, even if wasting a million contribution points did not matter to him.
Therefore, during this time, he would think carefully about how to give the other party a “surprise” so that they would give up on this tough nut to crack.
Therese finally accepted the suggestion of his cheap uncle, Floson.
Seven hundred thousand contribution points!
Such a large sum of money; if he did not take it, it would make him seem too aloof.
And just for one meeting, he would get two hundred thousand.
Therese arrived at the small tavern in high spirits and ordered a “Pretty Wine.”
The drink was pink, garnished with lemon and mint, and tasted very refreshing.
But unfortunately, by the time he finished the whole glass and only the lonely ice cubes remained, that male Zerg still had not arrived.
Therese ordered himself a portion of beef short ribs.
The ribs were rich with fat, fresh, and juicy.
The waiter was very polite. When he delivered the steak to Therese, he asked a nosy question: “It has exceeded your original appointment time. Would you like me to put up a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign for you?”
Therese checked the time; his date did not seem very proactive, either.
But considering the other party was paying for all his bills today, Therese was not in a hurry.
He would just treat it like a trip.
“No need, I can wait a little longer.”
“You do not need to wait anymore,” the waiter looked at the time. “General Adonis is very busy and often stands male Zergs up.”
“Is that so?” Therese widened his eyes. “The price of dating a male Zerg must be high, right?”
Just how rich was this guy?
“That is just how it is.” The waiter’s mysterious tone piqued Therese’s interest.
“Can you introduce Adonis to me?” He took out a gold coin and pushed it into the waiter’s hand.
The other party was surprised and refused the tip: “You can just ask whatever you want, no need for this!”
But visibly, the waiter’s attitude improved even further.
Perhaps because he had not seen a male Zerg as good-natured as Therese, he did not want to leave right away either.
“General Adonis Kelson graduated from the First Military Academy with excellent grades, but he is also the owner of the Blood Medal, so everyone is both respectful and fearful of him.”
It was the first time Therese had heard this title.
He narrowed his eyes: “What is the Blood Medal?”
“It means he has killed a particularly high number of alien beasts, and his mental instability is particularly high, my lord.”
“Mental instability?” Therese’s eyes widened.
Seeing that this male Zerg lord was clearly surprised and knew nothing about his blind date, the male waiter felt very sympathetic toward him.
He whispered: “Yes, General Adonis’s mental power is on the verge of collapse. He even fainted last time and has not appeared since.”
“We have all heard a rumor that General Adonis kills male Zergs as fast as he kills alien beasts. So, you should leave as soon as possible.”
The male waiter’s gaze swept fleetingly over Therese’s black robe, not daring to look for too long.
But the sympathy in his eyes left Therese feeling chaotic.
Floson, that liar!
He did not say this Zerg was so dangerous!
Therese felt like leaving.
But Therese could not bear to leave the freshly grilled short ribs.
He would just finish eating before leaving.
Comforted by the delicious food, those rumors seemed less terrifying.
Therese ate and drank. Feeling a bit hot from wearing the hood, and thinking that he was already on the First High-Rank Star—which should be much safer than the Trash Star—he simply took off his hood.
A face of stunning beauty was exposed to the daylight.
The noisy tavern gradually quieted down, and many Zergs began to sneak glances, their hearts stirred with the urge to strike up a conversation.
But they all knew this seat was reserved for high-rankers on blind dates. Most of the male Zergs here already had partners, so they did not dare approach easily.
But clearly, after Therese finished eating alone, he seemed ready to leave.
He straightened his collar and put on his hood when he saw a Zerg approach.
“My lord, are you alone?”
The Zerg was courteous and clearly a high-ranker.
“Can I buy you a drink?”
“I just finished one, thank you.”
Unlike the strange-looking Zergs Therese had seen on the Trash Star, these high-rankers, apart from having two antennae, had beautiful wings hidden under their cloaks, making it difficult to identify their species.
And the one he was meeting, it was said, was the most dangerous Mantis species; they were also known as “the killers in the dark.”
He sized up this Zerg and tilted his head: “Adonis?”
“Oh, no.”
The Zerg’s face suddenly turned pale, and he silently retreated a step: “Are you here on a blind date with Adonis Kelson?”
“Yes.”
“Excuse me!” The eager Zerg hurried away.
Is he that scary?
Things like this happened one after another.
Zergs would approach with fear and anxiety. He would ask, “Adonis?”
The other party would turn pale and run away.
He could not help but be curious: What exactly did Adonis Kelson look like? Why was everyone so afraid of him?
Anyway, since he was already here, Therese’s curiosity was strongly piqued, and he did not want to leave anymore.
He had to see this Adonis today.
Was he some kind of big monster with fangs?
Bored, he took a star coin from his pocket, wiped it with a handkerchief, and waited for it to shine before switching to the next one.
Before long, a pile of star coins covered the table.
Everyone was sizing up this eye-catching male Zerg. Therese also calmly sprayed some olfactory-dulling agent. As Zergs came and went around him, his pheromone scent must have been pungent.
The sunset began to paint the sky outside the window, and Therese stretched.
Well, this date worth 200,000 star coins was about to end early.
Just today, more than a dozen or twenty Zergs had passed by him and accidentally spilled wine on him, all looking bashful and shy.
None of them were to his liking.
It seemed today’s blind date would surely end in nothing.
At this moment, the wind chime at the tavern entrance jingled.
He looked up and locked eyes with a tall, cold male Zerg.
He was standing at the tavern entrance, frowning as he scanned the room, finally locking his gaze on him.
Zergs near him retreated one after another, quickly leaving a wide vacuum area.
Therese could not help but take a few more looks at him.
Quite tall, with a hint of untamed wildness, a sharp expression, and a cold demeanor; he looked like an unreachable, handsome guy.
This handsome guy’s gaze was fixed firmly on him.
Therese’s heart could not help but skip a beat.
He stood up and nodded slightly toward him.
Therese politely extended his hand: “Adonis?”
The name rolled around his tongue, bringing out a lingering tone.
He looked at the other party with certainty.
The Zerg was clearly surprised.
Before coming today, he had received a temporary mission to go to the Nata Mountains to kill “Stinky Bugs.”
The task was annoying; a little carelessness and one would be covered in their scent.
He knew he had a blind date today and had notified the other party in advance, but he was told the male Zerg had already arrived.
So, when he came to Wilson’s Tavern, he did not expect to see the date at all.
Yet the male Zerg in the photo was sitting quietly under the tavern’s floor-to-ceiling window.
The evening light illuminated his profile.
Adonis knew he had been waiting for a long time, yet the other party did not show a hint of impatience.
The hand he extended was excessively white, with subtle blue veins visible on the back of his hand.
A simple silver bracelet was tied around his wrist; there was not a single gemstone on it; it was simple to a fault.
“Apologies, Lord Therese.”
A hint of apology flickered in Adonis’s cold eyes: “Official business delayed your time.”
“It is alright. The scenery here is nice.” Seeing that his date was such a handsome hunk, all the annoyance of waiting instantly vanished.
He took the other party’s hand and squeezed it secretly.
Sure enough, the feel was great.
Adonis had not expected this move.
He shuddered, worried that he might have misread it.
This should just be a normal handshake, right?
Adonis was a bit unsure.
Could this male Zerg not smell the pheromones on him?
He sat down opposite the male Zerg, a bit confused and lost.
Why was he still smiling so beautifully at him?
