- Chapter 31 - Take Off Your Clothes
“Eldest Miss, the person has been settled in, but she doesn’t seem very cooperative. She keeps shouting that she wants to go out.”
Xiao Qi handed over the report. “It’s confirmed; it is indeed her. These are the records from her birth until now.”
Lu Wanxing looked at the paternity test results on top, her expression icy. When Xiao Qi asked if the person should be sent abroad immediately, she shook her head.
“Have Xu Xiu go over and try in a few days. First, get her to start talking.” Having met the person once recently, Lu Wanxing felt that sending her away in her current state was inappropriate.
Xiao Qi looked at Lu Wanxing, hesitating before asking, “Eldest Miss, why did you bring her back?”
Although Xiao Qi had been in contact with the girl for a while and had investigated her background knowing she was quite pitiful it didn’t seem strictly necessary to bring her back.
Lu Wanxing didn’t answer. Looking at the name on the report, she simply felt a sense of irony.
“Let’s not talk about that. Let’s go to the training grounds together.” Usually, when Lu Wanxing was unhappy, she would stay in her room. However, thinking of how Sheng Xia had been constantly nagging her lately about going out, and remembering the pitiful look in the girl’s eyes today when she said they wouldn’t read poetry, Lu Wanxing suddenly felt a desire to see her.
She didn’t expect to arrive only to find Sheng Xia sprawled out like a salted fish, motionless.
“Mhm, go ahead and make your excuses.” Lu Wanxing leaned her elbow on her wheelchair, intentionally keeping a cold face as she looked at Sheng Xia.
She guessed she had caught Sheng Xia slacking off again, but she wasn’t truly angry. After Sheng Xia finished a nervous explanation, Lu Wanxing nodded, letting the matter drop.
Lu Wanxing’s mood had been poor, but seeing Sheng Xia’s expressionless face paired with those highly emotional eyes somehow made her feel much more relaxed.
The Eldest Miss left without saying much, as if she had only come down for a casual look. This indifferent attitude left Sheng Xia unsure whether she was angry or not.
Seeing Xiao Qi return, A-Biao was quite happy and said, “Xiao Qi, from now on, you’ll be responsible for some of Sheng Xia’s training.”
Previously, the Eldest Miss feared Sheng Xia would be uncomfortable, so she specifically had A-Biao bring in Da Hu and Er Wen to supervise her studies and help her relax. However, for close-quarters combat training, it wasn’t appropriate for these large men to handle it.
Sheng Xia glanced at Xiao Qi standing beside A-Biao, remembering he had mentioned this before.
Xiao Qi was a woman with short hair. Though not tall, she looked lean with prominent muscles. Wearing only a sports bra, her fit physique was fully visible. When she looked at Sheng Xia, her gaze held a hint of dislike.
Sheng Xia guessed that because Xiao Qi had previously been the only female bodyguard, the sudden appearance of another woman made her feel somewhat uneasy.
After the Eldest Miss left, Xiao Qi didn’t bother with introductions or pleasantries. She spoke directly: “If you don’t take training seriously, the old rule is to triple today’s content. Any problems?”
Tripling the content meant thirty laps, three hundred push-ups, and other drills all while wearing sandbags. Sheng Xia’s previous standard was ten kilograms; tripling it meant thirty kilograms.
A-Biao tried to step in to smooth things over, but in the next second, Xiao Qi penalized him as well. “The leader failed to supervise properly. Same punishment.”
Xiao Qi asked, “Do you two have an objection?”
A-Biao’s face instantly turned into a bitter gourd as he shook his head.
Sheng Xia also said, “No problem.”
While running, Sheng Xia’s tone was full of guilt. “Brother Biao, I dragged you into this.”
A-Biao waved it off and offered to take some of Sheng Xia’s sandbags. Naturally, Sheng Xia refused. “Brother Biao, did you forget how strong I am?”
She swung her arms lightly, looking effortless.
During previous training sessions, A-Biao had always controlled the intensity. Seeing Sheng Xia so relaxed now, he laughed. “Then let’s see who’s the last one standing at the end?”
“Sure, let’s do it.” Sheng Xia didn’t decline, maintaining a steady, unhurried pace. After finishing the run, they rested for only a few minutes before moving to the next task.
Since training hours were over, Xiao Qi didn’t stay and left on her own. The other bodyguards noticed Sheng Xia and A-Biao were competing and began cheering loudly.
“A-Biao, hurry, hurry, hurry! Show us your strength as a leader!” A-Si and the group shouted.
“Boss, go for it! Charge!” Da Hu and Er Wen screamed at the top of their lungs, their voices nearly lifting the roof.
The two were neck-and-neck. Noticing Sheng Xia seemed to be holding back, A-Biao panted, “If you go easy on me, it means you look down on me!”
Hearing this, Sheng Xia laughed. It had been a long time since she had pushed her physical limits like this, and she felt exhilarated. She joked, “Then I’m going to make Brother Biao’s wallet bleed!”
The two bet that the loser would treat everyone to a meal. Hearing this, the crowd grew even more excited, cheering wildly.
In the end, Sheng Xia finished slightly ahead the gap was so small they were almost tied. A-Biao forced himself to stay standing and gave Sheng Xia a thumbs-up.
Beside them, the excited roars of Da Hu and Er Wen were particularly prominent; the two hugged each other, looking as if they were about to set off fireworks.
Previously, Sheng Xia’s performance hadn’t been outstanding; their deepest impression of her was her frantic eating. They had always respected the strong, and after this bet, their perception of Sheng Xia improved significantly.
It was long past the end of training and both were exhausted. After a few words, everyone dispersed, leaving the meal for later.
Unexpectedly, the next day A-Biao was sent out by the Eldest Miss for other matters, leaving Xiao Qi in charge of training coordination.
Sheng Xia couldn’t shake the feeling that Xiao Qi was ostracizing her.
[Bullet Screen]: She never talks to the streamer. Is she trying to isolate her?
[Bullet Screen]: I noticed it too. What’s the deal?
In the viewers’ eyes, Sheng Xia was their “child,” and seeing her get the cold shoulder felt like watching her get bullied at school.
[Bullet Screen]: Xiao Xia, why don’t you tell the Eldest Miss? The training these past few days has been brutal.
A few days ago, when Sheng Xia bet with A-Biao, Xiao Qi had already left. She only knew Sheng Xia had completed the training, so she increased the difficulty day by day.
The intensity was several times higher than for the others. Such a load would have injured a normal person, leading the viewers to suspect Xiao Qi was intentionally targeting Sheng Xia.
Sheng Xia saw the comments and knew she wasn’t imagining things, but she didn’t want to tell the Eldest Miss.
Xiao Qi was brought in by the Eldest Miss, and A-Biao and the others were on good terms with her, which suggested she wasn’t a bad person. There might just be a misunderstanding.
[Bullet Screen]: I hate to say it, but could this be on the Eldest Miss’s orders?
There were only a few days left in the one-month observation period Lu Wanxing had promised. Was she still unwilling to let Sheng Xia stay and intentionally letting Xiao Qi wear her down?
[Bullet Screen]: Is the person above new here? The Eldest Miss wouldn’t be that kind of person.
[Bullet Screen]: Exactly. If she really wanted Xiao Xia to leave, why would she have agreed to tutor her in the first place?
In her heart, Sheng Xia didn’t believe the Eldest Miss would play such petty tricks. If she didn’t want Sheng Xia to stay, she would say so directly.
However, the comment reminded her that the observation period was ending soon. She had to perform well to convince the Eldest Miss to let her stay.
Consequently, in the following days, Sheng Xia trained even harder. During her tutoring sessions, she didn’t dare to lose focus for a second, and she stopped intentionally getting words wrong just to hear the Eldest Miss explain more.
Sheng Xia’s proactive training left Xiao Qi unable to find any faults, which made her feel frustrated. After a moment of thought, she walked up to Sheng Xia.
“Let’s spar.”
A-Biao, who had just finished his duties and returned, couldn’t help but cheer. “I would’ve regretted it if I came back a day later. I didn’t think I’d get to see our two ‘Female Overlords’ face off today.”
The others, having never seen Sheng Xia’s actual combat skills, gathered around to place bets. As usual, Da Hu and Er Wen bet on Sheng Xia.
Even though she hadn’t studied formal grappling or boxing, their Boss was the best!
Seeing that they all wanted to watch, Sheng Xia didn’t refuse. She only said, “If I win, you have to agree to have a proper talk with me.”
For so long, Xiao Qi hadn’t spoken a word to her outside of training tasks and would disappear immediately after. Even if Sheng Xia wanted to ask what was wrong, she couldn’t.
Xiao Qi replied, “Stop wasting words. There are rules here. If you win, you stay. If you lose, you leave.”
The moment she said this, the lively atmosphere turned cold. A-Biao, in particular, hadn’t expected the tension to be so thick; he thought it was just for fun.
Just as he was about to speak, Sheng Xia agreed without hesitation. A-Biao had to swallow his words.
Her decisiveness made Xiao Qi’s expression soften slightly, though it didn’t mean she accepted Sheng Xia yet. She tossed a set of protective gear over. “Take these.”
Sheng Xia was going to put them on, but seeing Xiao Qi only rolling her wrists with no intention of wearing gear herself, she set the items aside. “We’ll go by our own skills.”
Sheng Xia was a good judge of character. She knew that although Xiao Qi sounded harsh, she wasn’t the type to play dirty. Besides, it had been a long time since she had really stretched her muscles in this world.
“Fine, let’s go.” Seeing Sheng Xia refuse the gear, Xiao Qi didn’t dwell on it and struck immediately.
Her movements were fast and ruthless, aiming straight for Sheng Xia’s vitals. But Sheng Xia’s reactions were faster; she dodged to the side and even managed to counterattack.
Though she held back seventy percent of her power, the force still made Xiao Qi stumble back a few steps. This strength brought a look of serious focus to Xiao Qi’s eyes; she no longer dared to underestimate Sheng Xia.
When Xiao Qi threw a punch, it seemed to whistle through the air. Her tight muscles gave off a sense of immense pressure. Sheng Xia’s left arm took a hit, blooming with sharp pain, but in the next second, her own fist landed on Xiao Qi’s abdomen.
The two fought fiercely, causing the smiles to vanish from the onlookers’ faces. Watching them trade blow for blow made everyone’s teeth ache in sympathy.
It became clear that Sheng Xia hadn’t received formal training; she relied on speed and a “trade-one-for-one” style essentially hurting herself to hurt the enemy. A-Biao watched for a while before stepping in to pull them apart.
“Alright, alright, we’re all on the same side. Let’s call it a draw.”
Xiao Qi was surprised by his intervention. She pursed her lips, looking hesitant, but didn’t insist on continuing.
When A-Biao pulled her to a corner to ask what was going on, she frowned. She had thought A-Biao wanted the girl gone, which was why he had her train her so hard.
Hearing A-Biao’s questions, she realized she might have been wrong. “Weren’t you asking me to drive her away?”
“Why would you think that?” A-Biao was stunned.
Xiao Qi rolled her eyes. “In the past, haven’t the people you asked me to train always been those you wanted to get rid of?”
It wasn’t the first time she’d done this. Every time a new bodyguard arrived, they had to go through this process unless they were officially recognized by the Eldest Miss.
Furthermore, she had witnessed Sheng Xia being caught slacking by the Eldest Miss. That bad first impression, combined with the task from A-Biao, made her instinctively assume Sheng Xia was like the others who were meant to be forced out.
A-Biao laughed awkwardly. “I forgot to tell you the Eldest Miss actually likes Xiao Xia quite a bit.”
Sheng Xia had been there for a while, and A-Biao already considered her one of their own. Xiao Qi had arrived just as he was summoned away, so he hadn’t had the chance to explain. It had been so long since they’d had to drive someone out of the villa that he’d forgotten about their unspoken rule.
Xiao Qi realized her targeting had been a complete misunderstanding. Knowing the girl was only a seventeen-year-old sister, her expression shifted through various shades of embarrassment. She punched A-Biao in the shoulder.
“Next time, speak up sooner.” This was deathly awkward.
Xiao Qi pulled a long face, unsure of what to say. A-Biao, knowing Sheng Xia wasn’t petty, said, “Just apologize to her later.”
“Fine, I’ll tell her to her face during training tomorrow.” Xiao Qi wasn’t one to be wishy-washy. If she was wrong, she was wrong. She had been cold to Sheng Xia in front of everyone for days, and it might have influenced others.
A-Si also felt a bit awkward. If Xiao Qi hadn’t shown such overt hostility today, he would have thought she recognized Sheng Xia’s talent and was using an extreme method to trigger her potential.
Had he noticed sooner, this wouldn’t have happened. A-Si sighed, “I’ll go apologize tomorrow too.”
Xiao Qi rolled her eyes. “You should visit an eye doctor first.” With that kind of observation, no wonder the Eldest Miss never took him along when she went out.
Seeing the matter resolved, A-Biao asked with a smile, “If I hadn’t pulled you apart just now, who do you think would have won?”
“I couldn’t beat her.” Xiao Qi was frustrated, but she told the truth.
A-Biao was shocked. “Even you couldn’t beat her?” Xiao Qi was known for her grit and skill. If Sheng Xia could beat her, there was really no need for further training.
“Even ‘Desperate Qi-Niang’ couldn’t hold her off? She’s got something,” A-Si joked, though his expression grew solemn.
How could a high schooler be so strong? If she ever turned against them, the consequences would be unthinkable.
Ultimately, they hadn’t spent enough time together. Instinctively, he was still a bit wary of Sheng Xia.
“Don’t overthink it. Trust the Eldest Miss,” A-Biao patted A-Si on the shoulder. “Remember how much we trusted Xiao Ba? Didn’t he end up betraying us anyway?”
At the mention of Xiao Ba, Xiao Qi’s expression soured, but she agreed with A-Biao.
“I’m tired of talking to you. Let’s spar.”
“Ah, spare me!” A-Si already felt like his whole body ached and had no desire to spar with this heartless fighting machine.
A-Biao waved them off and walked away arm-in-arm with A-Si. The training ground was suddenly empty.
Left alone, Xiao Qi hit the sandbag for a while. Feeling restless, she decided to go to her room and grab a bottle of medicine.
After finding out where Sheng Xia lived, Xiao Qi stood at the door, debating with herself. She couldn’t bring herself to say it to her face, so she went back and wrote a small note. She wrote down what she wanted to say and apologized for her targeting over the past few days.
Finally, she awkwardly added a line: Hope you won’t tell the Eldest Miss about this. I’ll take whatever punishment you decide then.
Sheng Xia didn’t know Xiao Qi had left medicine at her door. Currently, she was telling the Eldest Miss that she wouldn’t be dictating English vocabulary today.
Because memorizing is more effective thirty minutes before bed and in the morning, Lu Wanxing would check her progress during those times.
Today, Sheng Xia’s right hand had been struck by Xiao Qi. Although she was physically tough, she couldn’t recover instantly. Writing would make the injury obvious.
Fortunately, during the fight, she had remembered to protect her face, so she didn’t have to hide any bruises there.
She changed into a long-sleeved shirt to cover the redness and swelling. She thought about turning on the air conditioner but refrained, knowing the Eldest Miss was sensitive to drafts.
When Lu Wanxing entered, Sheng Xia lowered her head and said, “Eldest Miss, I didn’t memorize the words today.”
“Is it because training went too long?”
After a pause, Sheng Xia hummed a vague “Mhm.”
Lu Wanxing wasn’t angry that she hadn’t memorized them, but she asked curiously, “Didn’t we say the training time could be shortened? Why have you been back so late lately?”
Sheng Xia hadn’t expected the follow-up. She felt her conscience being put through a trial. “I feel like this is a good learning opportunity, so I wanted to learn more from Brother Biao and the others.”
Lu Wanxing didn’t press further. She was about to tell her to get some rest as it was late when she heard Xiao Qi’s voice outside. Seeing Sheng Xia show no reaction, she realized the girl was likely preoccupied with her own thoughts.
However, after listening for a moment, Lu Wanxing placed her book on the table and asked, “Is it that you didn’t memorize them, or that your hand can’t write?”
Sheng Xia’s heart skipped a beat. She wanted to resist, but meeting the Eldest Miss’s cold gaze made her lose her nerve. A sense of impending crisis made her swallow her original answer. “Both… my hand is a bit hard to lift after training today.”
“And? Are you injured anywhere else?”
Seeing Sheng Xia stammer and hesitate, Lu Wanxing laughed. The sound made Sheng Xia feel extremely uneasy. “I… I don’t know. There probably isn’t anything else…”
“You don’t know?” Seeing Sheng Xia nod, the Eldest Miss hummed. She curled her lips into a smile, her long lashes veiling the coolness in her eyes. “Since you don’t know… then take off your clothes. I’ll help you find out.”
“???”
Sheng Xia wondered if she had accidentally damaged her brain during the spar. Otherwise, how could she be hearing such words?
While her eyes were wide with disbelief, the Eldest Miss across from her said calmly, “What, do you want me to help you take them off?”
