- After Being Forced Into a Facial Paralysis, the Villain Said I’m Such a Drama Queen
- Chapter 13 - Fighting Back Bravely
As expected of someone destined to do great things in the future, her skill at turning the tables and talking utter nonsense was truly perfected.
Sheng Xia always felt there was some other hidden meaning in Lu Wanxing’s words, but then figured she was just overthinking it.
Fortunately, Grandma didn’t press for more details and remained all smiles.
Once they went inside and saw the dining table overflowing with dishes, Lu Wanxing pursed her lips. Her fingers slid along the side of her wheelchair’s armrest, and almost instantly, A-Biao called her phone.
“Eldest Miss, there’s a matter at the company that requires your attention.”
“Mhm, alright. I’ll let the old lady know in a moment…” Before Lu Wanxing could finish, Grandma reached out her hand directly. “Give me the phone. Let me see what this business is.”
Grandma wore an “I know exactly what you’re up to” expression. After the two locked eyes for a moment, Lu Wanxing finally looked away.
Grandma spoke into the phone, “Biao-zi, what’s going on at the company?”
Without waiting for an answer, she continued, “I may be old, but I still understand a thing or two. Tell me, what ‘big matter’ is so urgent that Wanwan has to go there personally?”
On the other end, A-Biao stammered, unable to speak. He couldn’t disobey the Eldest Miss, but he didn’t dare lie to the old lady. “Uh… I don’t know the specifics.”
Grandma replied, “Then tell me once you actually know,” and with a snap, she hung up the phone.
She hasn’t stepped foot in the company in eight hundred years, yet every time it’s time to eat, this or that comes up. Does she really think I’m that easy to fool? She just doesn’t want to eat, doesn’t she?
Grandma looked at Lu Wanxing suspiciously. “Wanwan, tell me the truth. Are you…”
Her gaze shifted to Sheng Xia, and Grandma put her hands on her hips, raising her voice. “Are you dissatisfied with the little friend I introduced to you?”
Hearing this, Sheng Xia looked toward Lu Wanxing. Both of them stared straight at her, waiting for an answer.
The Eldest Miss’s expression remained unchanged as she denied it. “No dissatisfaction.”
I just didn’t expect the ‘little friend’ you found wouldn’t actually be that little.
“If we don’t eat soon, the food will get cold.” This single sentence instantly made Grandma’s urge to interrogate them vanish.
She slapped her forehead. “You two were out for so long it’s already cold. I’ll go reheat the meat dishes.”
With that, Grandma hurried off like a whirlwind. During the meal, Lu Wanxing mostly stuck to congee, and even then, she only finished half a small bowl. Grandma seemed used to it and didn’t say anything.
After finishing the meal, Sheng Xia wanted to help Grandma wash the dishes, but Grandma waved her away, telling her to go out. She suggested that if Sheng Xia was bored, she should accompany Lu Wanxing for a stroll nearby.
Because she had witnessed Lu Wanxing’s slight “black-bellied” (scheming) nature before the meal, Sheng Xia actually felt the other woman was easier to approach. Realizing that the female supporting character currently faced no risk of “blackening” (turning villainous), she wasn’t afraid anymore.
Sheng Xia walked beside Lu Wanxing, her mind wandering as she recalled certain things.
Initially, when she discovered that Grandma was actually related to Lu Wanxing, she nearly dropped her jaw or she would have, if not for her “poker face” effect.
It was truly impossible to associate the two. Lu Wanxing’s father, Lu Fengnian, had once led the Lu family to become one of the top four families in Z City a man whose every step made the city tremble. He later chose to retreat behind the scenes, leaving Lu Wanxing to take over the Lu family industries.
The old city district was poor, chaotic, and run-down. Why would the old lady live here? Furthermore, in the original novel, there was never any mention of such a person by Lu Wanxing’s side. If Grandma existed, why didn’t she appear later when the female supporting character turned villainous?
Was it a matter of perspective in the writing, or did something happen in between?
While she was deep in thought, Sheng Xia caught the spicy scent of food and snapped back to reality.
Lu Wanxing asked, “Have you figured it out?”
Sheng Xia subconsciously answered, “I’ve figured it out.” Then, she was startled. “How did you know I was thinking about something?”
With her paralyzed “poker face,” there shouldn’t have been any expression to betray her thoughts, right?
Seeing Sheng Xia’s eyes go wide like a Husky, Lu Wanxing felt an urge to tease her. “Are you thinking: ‘I’m already this wooden, how could anyone see through me at a glance?'”
Sheng Xia was stumped. She didn’t quite understand where she had slipped up. The “ghosts” in the livestream chat couldn’t stand it any longer.
[Livestream Chat]: Host, your eyes literally write your mood out clear as day!
It was truly strange. Logically, Sheng Xia shouldn’t be this unguarded.
Ever since Sheng Xia displayed her unusual abilities today, the viewers in the chat had been subconsciously analyzing whether she had an ulterior motive. Was she playing the “pig to eat the tiger”? Was she intentionally lowering the female lead’s guard?
However, Sheng Xia really wasn’t thinking that much this time. Realizing her expression was off, she secretly grew more alert. As her gaze turned calm, the aura around her shifted slightly.
Lu Wanxing paused her movement of pushing the wheelchair, then stopped directly in front of a barbecue stall. “Let’s eat here.”
She instructed A-Biao to give the menu to Sheng Xia. Seeing that Sheng Xia wanted to refuse, she offered a rare explanation: “The old lady invited you for a meal. If you leave without being full, she’ll be sad.”
Sheng Xia had fought a battle before the meal and then ran quite a distance; she had consumed a lot of energy. In the past, she would have needed to eat a massive amount of food to replenish herself. Even though Grandma had been very enthusiastic and kept piling food onto her plate earlier, Sheng Xia still felt she hadn’t eaten enough.
Sheng Xia was strong and ate a lot. She thought she had hidden it well, but she hadn’t expected Lu Wanxing to be so observant.
The alertness she had just built up was instantly scattered to the winds by the sight of a large plate of roasted mutton skewers. She didn’t stand on ceremony and started eating.
She was used to eating as much as possible whenever food was available, and besides, she was indeed hungry.
Watching Sheng Xia eat with such gusto, Lu Wanxing noticed that several passersby seemed to be drawn in by how delicious she made the food look, eventually coming in to order the same thing. She felt that Sheng Xia did indeed possess a peculiar kind of charisma.
Though, she still hadn’t discovered the “sunny” disposition Grandma kept talking about.
On the contrary, the events of this afternoon had truly surprised her. If Lu Wanxing hadn’t been following Sheng Xia from the start, she never would have imagined a high school student could have such decisive boldness and startling strength.
If Sheng Xia had only just come up with that plan on the fly, even A-Biao might not have executed it so perfectly.
Initially, she thought the girl was just a “middle school syndrome” (chuunibyou) teenager in a weird mask with a sense of justice. But her anti-surveillance and combat skills were absolutely not something a high school student who was being manipulated by her parents to work should possess.
Furthermore, Sheng Xia’s parents were mean-spirited and petty in both looks and temperament, whereas Sheng Xia’s features were bright and elegant. In her photos, there wasn’t a single trace of resemblance to her parents when she smiled. In that moment, Lu Wanxing immediately doubted the girl’s parentage.
But strangely, the investigation yielded no abnormalities.
In just two meetings, everything Sheng Xia displayed was full of things worth investigating. However, since the old lady rarely liked someone this much, Lu Wanxing could only temporarily retract all her suspicions.
“Have you figured it out?” Sheng Xia suddenly blurted out while eating.
Lu Wanxing raised an eyebrow and said nothing.
Sheng Xia, who had originally wanted to trick her into a confession, sighed, realizing she was outmatched.
Then she threw herself back into the great task of eating meat. Looking at the pile of skewers growing beside the table, Lu Wanxing was slightly shocked and couldn’t help saying, “How about you save the rest for later?”
It wasn’t that she was stingy with money; she was genuinely afraid Sheng Xia would hurt herself. That pile was more than what several grown men could finish; she was truly afraid Sheng Xia would end up in the hospital.
Only then did Sheng Xia notice she had eaten quite a bit. Her constitution allowed her to store energy from food for future needs, but such a body seemed a bit strange in this world, and it was hard to explain to Lu Wanxing.
She said somewhat embarrassedly, “Sorry, I’ve been starved too many times before. Whenever there’s food, I just can’t stop eating.”
Hearing this, Lu Wanxing handed over a pack of tissues without asking further questions. “The old lady will be worried soon. Let’s head back early.”
“Ah, alright.” Sheng Xia glanced at her watch and realized the time was still stuck at one o’clock.
She had used this watch for a long time. It had once fallen into water and worked only sporadically. Usually, she would keep track of time herself, but today she had been so distracted by the meat that she hadn’t paid attention.
Seeing this, Lu Wanxing lifted her wrist. “It’s almost four o’clock. I’ll have A-Biao drive you back later.”
Sheng Xia didn’t refuse. Then, she thought of the Barbie doll she had bought.
Lu Wanxing had treated her to a meal, yet she couldn’t even bring herself to give the gift she brought. Sheng Xia felt more than a little awkward.
However, that awkwardness turned into utter confusion when she saw two Barbie dolls neatly arranged on the coffee table.
Who am I? Where am I? Why was the Barbie doll from under the table taken out?
Upon realizing there were two of them, Sheng Xia reacted and whipped her head around to look at Lu Wanxing.
Wait, there are two. Does that mean one of them is…?
Although her face remained expressionless, the joy of finding a “strategic ally” was about to overflow from Sheng Xia’s eyes. Lu Wanxing, who had originally intended to “let the friend die so the self could live,” felt a microscopic trace of guilt in her heart.
Seizing the moment of hesitation, Sheng Xia spoke directly, “Eldest Miss, I didn’t expect you to like playing with Barbie dolls too?”
Hearing this, Grandma immediately chimed in, “Wanwan, why didn’t you ever tell me you liked dolls?” If she had known sooner, she would have bought a hundred dolls to decorate Wanwan’s room beautifully.
Wuwuwu, and I could dress the dolls up. My cute little princess.
Lu Wanxing, who could hear the old lady’s inner thoughts: “…”
The cold, moon-like Eldest Miss had turned into a “sweet little girl” who loved dolls. Her image collapsed instantly.
She turned her wheelchair, a hint of murderous intent flashing in her eyes.
Lu Wanxing never regretted her actions, but just now, she regretted not adding a “laxative combo” to those meat skewers.
You fake ice-cube, you’re finished.
