- Chapter 67 - The Debut Is Coming, No Need to Rush Just Yet
Finally, the Beidou Star Training Program reached its grand finale.
The live performance was scheduled for six o’clock in the evening. By five, the audience had already begun streaming in, and before long, the entire venue was packed. From the stage, one could see a dazzling sea of colorful light boards and banners. Under the glow of the spotlights, they shimmered brilliantly amid the lively, roaring crowd—the atmosphere electric with excitement.
The online livestream channel had also opened early, allowing viewers who couldn’t attend in person to watch the show and flood the screen with live comments.
Backstage, the girls gathered together, nerves and excitement intertwined.
For the opening number, “Heart of the Sea Breeze,” the production team decided to reuse the same performance outfits from the very first stage, “Starlit Whispers.” The choice carried a symbolic meaning of coming full circle. Slipping into those familiar costumes, the girls couldn’t help but recall the innocence and dreams they had at the very beginning.
Tang Ling would also perform in the opening act. Of course, once that ended, she would return to the coaches’ panel to watch the rest of the performances.
Not far away, Tan Shiyi was still going over moves and positions with her teammates, her expression a little tense. Tang Ling, worried, walked over and asked, “How’s it going? Confident?”
Tan Shiyi shook her head. “Hard to say. Lin Ruoxin and Lu Yao’s votes are neck and neck—changing every minute.”
Lu Yao took a deep breath. “Don’t worry about me. Just keep calm and do your best. Whether I debut or not doesn’t matter that much.”
Cheng Qingyan nodded. “Do our best and leave the rest to fate.”
Tang Ling had also been keeping an eye on Lin Ruoxin and Lu Yao’s votes. Lin Ruoxin indeed held a slight advantage. In the original storyline, Lu Yao had debuted in seventh place. But now that Tang Ling had claimed one of the debut slots, Lu Yao’s vote count placed her eighth—making her, as Pu Xiaoyu once said, the person whose life Tang Ling had “stolen.”
Of course, Tang Ling refused to be shackled by Pu Xiaoyu’s words. Her spot had been earned through her own effort—every ounce of it. She hadn’t worked any less than anyone else. All she could do now was offer her blessings.
As for Tan Shiyi, there was no suspense—she was guaranteed to debut. Her popularity ranked second overall, just behind Du Zhen.
When no one was looking, Tang Ling hooked her pinky around Tan Shiyi’s and whispered softly in her ear, “Good luck.”
Tan Shiyi hooked her finger back in reply—a silent promise.
Before a sea of expectant eyes, the final performance officially began.
The stage lights dimmed to darkness, while the audience’s lightsticks glimmered like a galaxy below. Guided by those tiny lights, the girls quickly found their marks, hands behind their backs, heads lowered. When the lights came on, they would lift their faces and shine their brightest smiles.
The signature conch segment was still part of the number—but this time, Tang Ling would be the one to blow it.
The long, melodious sound of the conch echoed, and as it did, Tan Shiyi began her spoken introduction:
“I know better than anyone—the summer breeze once carried away your whispered heart.”
The girl closest to Tang Ling in the front row was the first to react, shrieking, “It’s Tang Shi—ahhh!”
The next second, the stage lights burst on. Tang Ling bent down, handed the conch to the girl, and playfully winked at her.
The fan nearly fainted on the spot, collapsing into her friend’s arms. “I’m done for. Tang Shi killed me.”
The livestream comment feed exploded:
“I don’t care—Tang Ling just winked at me!!!”
“No, she winked at me!”
“You solo fans dare use Tang Shi’s name to daydream about A’ling?! Unlike you, I am a solo A’ling fan, prpr~”
“Heart of the Sea Breeze” was a project completed by Tan Shiyi’s team, but since Tang Ling was now a temporary coach, the group unanimously decided that the two of them—Tang Shi—would share the double center position.
In the original choreography, the girls interacted in pairs during the chorus, but because this final stage was larger and more spread out, the interactions were replaced with solo segments—except for Tang Ling and Tan Shiyi, who kept their shared moments. As a result, their pairing naturally drew even more attention.
Back in training, things between the two had been awkward and restrained. But as their relationship gradually eased—and finally, as they confirmed their feelings—the same dance began to exude a deep, unmistakable tenderness.
The audience, of course, noticed immediately:
“Why does a soft, fluffy song like ‘Heart of the Sea Breeze’ look so suggestive when they perform it?”
“Tang Shi is real! Maybe they weren’t before, but they definitely are now!!!”
“Ahhh my Shi is so tempting, who could possibly resist that, sobbb!”
At last, “Heart of the Sea Breeze” ended amid thunderous cheers, and the host came onstage with the three coaches.
Smiling, the host asked, “So, everyone—are you satisfied with ‘Heart of the Sea Breeze’?”
The audience roared back, “Yes!”
“And how about Tang Ling as a temporary coach—did she do well?”
“Perfect!”
The host turned to her with a grin. “Tang Ling, how does being a coach compare to being a trainee?”
Tang Ling scratched her head. “Not that different, really—we all trained together. But the girls worked much harder than I did. Besides ‘Heart of the Sea Breeze,’ they also had to rehearse their group numbers, so I hope everyone will continue to support them in the upcoming performances.”
The audience responded with warm applause.
“In that case,” the host said, “please return to the coaches’ panel, Tang Ling. Our final competition begins now.”
“Will the four team leaders please come onstage to draw lots?”
One by one, the girls pulled star-shaped tokens from the box and held them up to show the audience. Tan Shiyi drew number three—an ideal placement.
“Then first, let’s welcome Du Zhen’s team to the stage for their performance. The other teams, please get ready.”
Du Zhen’s team had drawn the song ‘A Fleeting Moment of Romance,’ an upbeat and charming track perfect for a girl group performance. Its bright rhythm and smooth melody were crowd-pleasers, and with Du Zhen’s immense popularity, the team earned thunderous applause by the time the song ended.
Next up was Xu Zhixiao’s group, performing “Fantasy Novel.” It was a punk-inspired piece with a strong narrative flair—bold, lively, and brimming with energy. The girls’ uninhibited performance earned wave after wave of excited cheers from the audience.
Finally, it was time for Tan Shiyi’s group to take the stage with “Bright Moon, Next Year,” a classical-style ballad. Compared to the other groups’ selections, this song seemed almost too plain.
At first, the members tried to modernize it—adding elaborate arrangements and upbeat elements—but after several revisions, the result felt awkward and forced. After much discussion, Tan Shiyi made the call to strip it all back. No flashy modern touches—just pure simplicity. They would lean fully into the classical aesthetic, letting its quiet grace speak for itself.
The girls stepped onto the stage barefoot, dressed in flowing blue-and-white gauze. As the music began, their veils fluttered gently. They moved like mist—each step light and fluid, their voices soft and lilting, their gestures graceful and unhurried, their eyes brimming with emotion and allure.
For the first time that night, the audience fell utterly silent. Not a breath, not a whisper—no one dared disturb the fragile beauty before them.
It was also the first time Tang Ling had ever witnessed such a refined stage performance. She held her breath, completely drawn in by Tan Shiyi’s every glance and smile, lost in the quiet spell of the performance.
Meanwhile, the scrolling comments on the live feed had gone completely wild:
“I hereby declare all five of them are my wives!!!”
“Sobs, fairies are real—they actually exist!!”
“LMAO did anyone else notice Tang Ling hasn’t taken her eyes off Shishi? What a thirsty woman!”
Beside Tang Ling, Pan Qingchen couldn’t help but laugh and pointed out the comments to her.
Snapping back to reality, Tang Ling’s face flushed bright red. She immediately straightened up, putting on her best “professional coach” expression, as if she’d been judging objectively the whole time.
But of course, the comments didn’t let her off so easily:
“HAHAHAHA look, Pan-ge just showed Tang Ling the comments!!”
“Click to witness Tang ‘Truly a Gentleman’ Ling in action.”
“Q: What’s the difference between being a coach and a trainee?
A: Now she gets to ogle her wife on stage legally!”
The live audience had also caught on and began turning to look at Tang Ling, amused.
Tang Ling wanted to sink into the floor. Why are they all staring at me instead of watching the performance? What kind of audience is this?
As the final notes faded, the girls slowly lay down in the center of the stage, the image still and dreamlike.
Applause erupted. The lights brightened. The performers rose gracefully to their feet, adjusting their costumes and waiting for the coaches’ feedback.
Meng Bingxia looked close to tears. “I absolutely loved your performance,” she said warmly. “It’s been so long since I’ve seen something so simple, so pure, yet so heartfelt. It reminded me of why I fell in love with performing in the first place.”
Xu Xizhao added, “It was an incredibly high-level performance. The emotion came through perfectly.”
“My thoughts are pretty much the same,” Pan Qingchen said with a smile. “It was simple, but stunning—elegant and powerful.” He then turned toward Tang Ling. “I have a feeling Coach Tang has a lot she’d like to say?”
Laughter rippled through the crowd.
“Coach Tang, share your wisdom!”
“Yeah, Coach Tang, you were staring at Shiyi for so long—what did you see exactly?”
“Come on, Coach Tang, give us some sweet fanservice!”
Tang Ling deliberately straightened her face and said seriously, “I think their performance was excellent—simple, pure, sincere, and breathtaking.”
The audience burst out laughing, interrupting her. “You’re just repeating what everyone else said! Come on, give us something new!”
Tang Ling crossed her arms. “Then what do you all want to hear?”
“Your love confession to Shishi!” someone shouted.
Tang Ling snorted. “Confession, confession—every day with you people and your confessions! Did you all forget the show’s No Romance rule?” she said, pretending to scold them.
Finally, she glanced over at Tan Shiyi and let out a soft laugh.
“Debut’s right around the corner,” she said lightly. “No need to rush things just yet.”
