- Chapter 60 - How Can You Be So Shameless!
Tan Shiyi knew that some Alphas, upon entering their susceptibility period, could harbor hostility toward other Alphas—sometimes even feeling the urge to suppress them with their pheromones. What she hadn’t expected was that Tang Ling, standing right in front of her, would still choose to go out of her way instead of staying nearby.
Moreover, Tang Ling wasn’t normally the type to feel the need to dominate others in every situation. Clearly, under the influence of pheromones, she was a little out of control.
Tan Shiyi had no intention of helping Tang Ling contact Pu Xiaoyu. The two already shared a secretive past, and with Tang Ling losing control and Pu Xiaoyu possibly going a little crazy herself, letting two Alphas on the brink of differentiation meet would be reckless—and Tan Shiyi wasn’t about to do something so foolish.
She patiently tried to reason with her: “I know your body isn’t feeling well right now, and you want to vent. I can be here with you. Don’t think about Pu Xiaoyu, okay?”
Unexpectedly, Tang Ling insisted, “Shiyi, this situation is special. I have to see her.”
Tan Shiyi hadn’t realized that pheromones could make Tang Ling so competitively stubborn. She deliberately asked, “And what about me? You’d just leave me here by myself?”
Of course, Tang Ling couldn’t take Tan Shiyi along to meet Pu Xiaoyu. After all, she was about to throw some scathing words at her; if Tan Shiyi overheard even one, the rest of her life would basically be over.
“It’s getting late. You should rest. Tomorrow morning, I promise I’ll come see you, thoroughly and properly. Okay?”
Tan Shiyi’s expression hardened. “No. If you want to see her, you’ll have to do it yourself. I’m not helping you.”
Tang Ling didn’t want to trouble Tan Shiyi either, but considering she had provoked Pu Xiaoyu just a few days ago, even thinking about inviting her out was impossible.
Seeing Tang Ling hesitate, Tan Shiyi’s tone softened. “If you’re really struggling, you can stay here tonight.”
Tang Ling blinked. “Stay here?”
Tan Shiyi’s cheeks flushed. “You’ll sleep on the other bed. Don’t read too much into it—I’m just worried something might happen to you if you’re alone. I can at least take care of you a little.”
Tang Ling had wanted to refuse, but her eyes landed on Tan Shiyi’s still-lit laptop screen, and she hesitated. “Well, alright. Thanks for the trouble.”
Unaware of Tang Ling’s plan and still feeling a little embarrassed about her own initiative, Tan Shiyi lowered her head. “I’ll take a shower first. Wait for me.”
As Tan Shiyi stepped into the bathroom, Tang Ling hurried to sit in front of the laptop.
Tan Shiyi’s Weibo account was still logged in.
Though what she was about to do was somewhat shameless, Tang Ling had to use Tan Shiyi’s identity to lure Pu Xiaoyu out.
This was her only chance to change the situation with her face-blindness.
She typed Pu Xiaoyu’s name into the search bar, only to see the message: “You have blocked this user and cannot view their profile.”
Tang Ling froze. She had only known that Tan Shiyi had refused Pu Xiaoyu before, but she didn’t realize Tan Shiyi felt such aversion toward her.
She opened the blacklist, unblocked Pu Xiaoyu, and opened the private message window.
Then she froze again.
Frowning, she quickly scanned their chat history.
Not only was Pu Xiaoyu’s flirtatious harassment toward Tan Shiyi nauseating, but—more importantly—Pu Xiaoyu knew about her fake heiress identity and had even told Tan Shiyi.
No wonder Tan Shiyi had been keeping such a close eye on her and forbidding her from seeing Pu Xiaoyu alone.
And there was more.
“Shiyi, I really can’t help you. How can I make you understand that we’re destined to be together?”
That line, it was as if Pu Xiaoyu knew the original story’s plot.
Tang Ling suddenly remembered what Pu Xiaoyu had said to her a few days ago:
“Tang Ling, I really wonder how you had the courage to say all that to me. Do you think I would just let you take everything that belongs to me?”
At the time, she had felt uneasy but hadn’t thought much of it.
Now, looking back, it was clear that everything had been a sign all along.
Tang Ling furrowed her brows. Pu Xiaoyu was probably also a transposed person from the story—or maybe a reborn one, or one whose self-awareness had awakened. Either way, this wasn’t the Pu Xiaoyu from before.
Fortunately, she didn’t seem to know that Tang Ling had also transmigrated. She was still judging Tang Ling by the standards of the original story.
How should she handle her, then?
Tang Ling was deep in thought when suddenly—bang!—the bathroom door behind her swung open. She didn’t even have time to close the webpage.
Tan Shiyi’s hair was still wet, wrapped only in a towel. She looked serious and strode over to Tang Ling.
Tang Ling fumbled to shut the laptop, but it was too late.
“You saw it?” Tan Shiyi’s gaze was sharp and unflinching.
“Saw what?” Tang Ling forced a calm tone, hoping to bluff her way out.
“Our chat history with Pu Xiaoyu,” Tan Shiyi said directly. “You were just trying to use my account to lure her out, weren’t you?”
“I.”
“I should have known. You were so determined to see her before, then suddenly eased up,” Tan Shiyi said, lowering her eyes. “So, you knew all along, didn’t you?”
By all logic, the original character should have known nothing about her fake heiress identity. This revelation must have felt like a thunderbolt.
Tang Ling could only feign flustered confusion, looking utterly overwhelmed:
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to pry into your privacy. That paternity test she sent—it meant.”
“I don’t know, maybe it’s a lie,” Tan Shiyi admitted, a hint of irritation in her voice. “But she also said that Auntie invited her to your birthday party, and that she planned to reveal everything on the day itself—to claim what belongs to her.”
Tang Ling’s heart skipped a beat. Revealing it on the birthday? Pu Xiaoyu really was ruthless. Most people couldn’t handle something like that being exposed out of nowhere, let alone the original owner’s arrogant, domineering temperament.
“That’s why I don’t want you two to meet yet. I don’t want her to affect you before things are settled.”
Seeing Tang Ling remain silent, Tan Shiyi’s concern deepened. “Are you alright, Tang Ling?”
“I, I’m fine,” Tang Ling quickly replied, “just a little dazed.”
Tan Shiyi sat down beside her. “It’s normal to feel that way at first. Don’t overthink it. Your mom and dad love you so much—they won’t cut ties with you over this.”
Tang Ling wasn’t particularly worried about that now. Even in the worst-case scenario—being kicked out by Father Tang and Mother Tang—her current debut status meant she wouldn’t end up in a terrible situation. Besides, she hadn’t acted recklessly like the original owner, and Father Tang and Mother Tang were reasonable people. There was a good chance they would continue to see her as their daughter.
What needed careful thought now was how to provoke Pu Xiaoyu enough to earn “Scummy Alpha” points, while also preventing her from publicly exposing anything at the birthday party—minimizing the potential hurt to Father Tang and Mother Tang.
After a moment’s thought, Tang Ling said, “Shiyi, I still want to meet her.”
Tan Shiyi sighed. “Why are you so stubborn?”
“I want to know the full story,” Tang Ling explained. “That way, the damage to my parents can be minimized.”
Tan Shiyi was silent for a moment, then finally relented. “I’ll help you set up a meeting with her. But on one condition—you come with me.”
Tang Ling’s heart lifted. “Shiyi, thank you.”
She caught sight of the smooth curve of Tan Shiyi’s shoulder, and the faint outline beneath her towel, and awkwardly looked away. “Go change your clothes and dry your hair—don’t catch a cold.”
Tan Shiyi suddenly remembered she had dashed out halfway through her shower, and her face flushed crimson.
“You just stay here and don’t overthink things.”
That night, Tang Ling stayed over in Tan Shiyi’s dorm.
The dorm was designed for two people, so it wasn’t cramped at all. Since Tan Shiyi’s roommate had been eliminated, the other bed had been unused for a while. She cleaned the bedding with a mite-removing device and tidied up the bed.
The two of them sat at the table, exchanged a glance, and dialed the number, putting the call on speaker.
The call connected quickly. Tan Shiyi composed herself and spoke coldly, explaining that with Tang Ling’s birthday approaching, she couldn’t settle her mind and wanted to meet Pu Xiaoyu to talk things over.
On the other end, Pu Xiaoyu didn’t suspect a thing. She chuckled lowly and agreed, shamelessly suggesting the same hotel as last time.
When the call ended, both of them were thoroughly exasperated.
Now that Pu Xiaoyu had agreed, a bigger problem remained: how to get out of the training camp.
The camp was completely closed off. Aside from Tang Ling, no trainees were allowed to leave freely unless necessary for work.
To leave, someone from the management company had to formally request a leave.
Tan Shiyi couldn’t contact her management company herself, so Tang Ling would have to do it. But recently, Ah Tong had been keeping a particularly tight rein on Tang Ling, so the excuse had to be carefully considered.
As Tan Shiyi pondered, Tang Ling’s eyes suddenly lit up.
“You’ve figured it out?”
“I have a plan, but it’s going to inconvenience you,” Tang Ling said cautiously. “We’ll call in sick—just say you’re not feeling well.”
Tan Shiyi frowned. “But there’s a doctor here in the camp.”
Tang Ling hesitated but pressed on. “There’s actually a kind of discomfort that the camp doctor can’t know about. And it has to be with me.”
Tan Shiyi stared at her in confusion, then suddenly realized what Tang Ling meant. Her face burned bright red. “You, you’re shameless!”
