- Chapter 51 - Shiyi, Is Something on Your Mind?
The fans watching the stream were utterly confused. They assumed Pu Xiaoyu had just dropped by to show her support, and the comment section instantly exploded:
“Aaaaah! Miss Pu is here too—double chef happiness!”
“Miss Pu came to support them! I’m so happy seeing how well everyone gets along!”
“Will Miss Pu be joining the later episodes? I really want to see another Pu-Tang collaboration!”
“Wait, hold on—where are the Pu Shi shippers? Don’t tell me you’re all Tang Shi fans! Pu Shi is way too good to ignore!”
Tang Ling immediately grew wary. After all, Pu Xiaoyu had confessed to Tan Shiyi just two days ago. For her to suddenly appear in the livestream today? There was no way this was just a coincidence—she was probably here to stir things up.
Instinctively, Tang Ling edged closer to Tan Shiyi, half wrapping an arm around her waist.
“Miss Pu? What brings you here today?” she asked with a faint, polite smile.
Pu Xiaoyu’s reply came swiftly:
“I finished work early today. I happened to see you two were streaming, so I thought I’d drop by.”
On the surface, Tan Shiyi kept her expression calm, but her heart was racing. Finished work early? Hardly—she probably didn’t have any work to begin with. Wasn’t the plan today for her to meet at the hotel?
The thought made Tan Shiyi tense. Pu Xiaoyu was like a riddle she could never solve—every move she made seemed unpredictable and hard to read.
Pu Xiaoyu added another comment:
“Don’t mind me, just pretend I’m a regular viewer.”
Tang Ling and Tan Shiyi exchanged a look, both seeing the same helpless understanding in each other’s eyes.
Pretend she’s a regular viewer? Yeah, right.
Meanwhile, the chat was losing its mind:
“Achievement unlocked: Watching a livestream with my goddess!”
“Miss Pu is so down-to-earth! Love her!”
“Hehehe, Miss Pu’s jealous—smells like a love triangle to me!”
Knowing Pu Xiaoyu was lurking in the stream made both Tang Ling and Tan Shiyi a little stiff. Tang Ling recovered first, picking up the guitar resting beside her.
“Alright,” she said lightly, “how about we start with a song? You guys can name one, and if I know it, I’ll sing it.”
Song titles flooded the screen immediately.
“Sing the song for the next performance, please!”
“Peach Blossoms Crease! My eternal favorite!”
“I want to hear A’ling sing Can You Forget Me!“
“Yes, yes! Can You Forget Me! Tang Shi duet, please!”
Tang Ling scanned the comments—the loudest request by far was Can You Forget Me. It made sense. The fourth performance episode had just aired, and the show had featured a lot of scenes of Tang Ling teaching Tan Shiyi to play the guitar. The song they’d practiced? Can You Forget Me.
Tang Ling cleared her throat and smiled. “Alright then, Can You Forget Me it is. We’ll sing it together.”
“Recording ready!!!”
“Tissues in hand, let’s goooo!”
The two of them shared a brief glance before Tang Ling strummed the first chord.
“You once said I was a flicker of light,
Burning alone—bright, yet fragile.”
Tang Ling’s voice was deeper and steadier, while Tan Shiyi’s—no matter how much she tried to lower it—still carried that natural sweetness and warmth. Tang Ling’s tone was clear and cold, touched by quiet melancholy.
When the chorus came, Tan Shiyi picked up the melody:
“Can you forget me?
Let me drown in my own sorrow,
Hide the bitterness I can’t name,
And turn it into a song of false, beautiful despair.”
Because she hadn’t rested well, her voice came out a little husky—perfectly fitting the raw, aching tone of the lyrics. Combined with Tang Ling’s gentle guitar, the song carried a deep, poignant sadness.
The fans in the livestream were completely wrecked:
“Waaah—what kind of tragic beauty is this? My heart hurts!”
“Please, please, let Tang Shi always remember each other, even after the show ends!”
“Who requested Can You Forget Me? Why would you do this to us?”
When the song ended, the chat erupted with gifts and donations.
Tan Shiyi sighed, reading through the flood of comments:
“‘Don’t refuse this, it’s my tribute money,’—thank you Tang Shi’s Little Cotton Jacket for the Galaxy Battleship. ‘It was so beautiful I cried, I’ll love Tang Shi forever,’—thank you FundraiserForTangShiToDoOnTheSpot, um, guys, maybe ease up a little?”
The moment she stopped, the chat turned playful again:
“Do what on the spot? Why didn’t you finish reading it?”
“You guys are evil! Shiyi’s blushing!! But it’s so cute, ahhhh!”
“Help! Her red face makes me want to tease her even more.”
Tan Shiyi was at a total loss. This was her first time livestreaming—she wasn’t used to the wild, chaotic energy of her fans. Normally, she barely spent time online, and she had never met fans this unrestrained in person.
Of course, as a professional artist, she couldn’t scowl or shut them down, so she tried to gently steer the conversation back.
But before she could say anything, Tang Ling stepped in with mock sternness.
“Alright, that’s enough. Everyone, behave. We’re still in class—don’t make the teacher mad!”
The chat instantly turned its teasing toward Tang Ling instead:
“Boss Tang is in protective-wife mode again!”
“Stop teasing Shiyi, or A’ling really will get mad!”
“Srsly, are you all just here to ship CPs? Am I the only one watching for the actual music lessons?”
Just then, a new message appeared on the screen—Pu Xiaoyu had sent a gift.
The accompanying comment contained only three words — “A perfect match.”
The comment section instantly exploded:
“Did you guys see what Miss Pu said? She said they’re a perfect match!”
“My goddess herself shipped them — how could this CP not be sweet?”
“Waaah, I’m telling the whole world that Tang Shi is real!!!”
Tang Ling was completely baffled. She could accept anyone else calling them a “perfect match,” but not Pu Xiaoyu. What was a person who’d been trying to steal her partner doing hyping them up now? What kind of act was she putting on?
With a polite, professional smile, Tang Ling said, “Thank you, Miss Pu, for the Galaxy Battleship gift. But please don’t joke about me and Shiyi — we just have a bit of work chemistry, that’s all.”
Tan Shiyi, worried that Pu Xiaoyu might say something even more shocking, quickly diverted the topic. “Time’s a little tight today, so let’s skip the small talk and get right into it. We’ll start by introducing everyone to the interface of the music production software.”
She nudged Tang Ling gently and whispered, “Let’s switch seats. I’ll handle the mouse — your arm’s still not convenient.”
Tang Ling froze for a second, then obediently stood up. “Okay.”
The comments went wild again:
“They’re so sweet, taking care of each other like that!”
“Shiyi is so considerate to A’ling!! I’m in love!”
“Why’s she saying time is tight? The night’s still young — or do they have other plans after the lesson?”
Tang Ling glanced at the chat and blushed. “Let’s minimize the comments for now — they’re flying too fast for us to see what we’re doing. We’ll open them again later.”
With that, she decisively minimized the Weibo plugin — out of sight, out of mind.
Once the comment section disappeared, both women, though silent, felt themselves finally exhale.
It was their first time livestreaming — they had never expected the fans to be this passionate and this chaotic.
Tang Ling turned to Tan Shiyi. “Let’s use ‘Can You Forget Me’ as our example, then. We can walk everyone through the main interface functions.”
Tan Shiyi nodded. “Alright.”
Without the constant scrolling comments to distract them, their coordination became much smoother. Soon, both slipped into a natural rhythm.
Having co-produced ‘Heart of the Sea Breeze’ before, they were both quite familiar with the software. Their explanations were clear and easy to follow, and before long, the fans stopped spamming CP comments and began earnestly listening and discussing.
After half an hour of teaching, they reopened the livestream interface — and the comments had finally calmed down.
“Wow, music production’s actually easier than I thought — even a total beginner like me can follow this!”
“U1S1, ‘Can You Forget Me’ is just too good.”
“I’m downloading the software tonight and trying it myself!”
Tan Shiyi exchanged a look with Tang Ling. “That wraps up our little lesson for today. Everyone can try it out on your own afterward.”
The comment section flared up again:
“Shishi really has that teacher vibe — I love it!”
“If we turn in homework, will there be a reward?”
“Yeah! Every class needs homework — how do we submit ours?”
Tang Ling laughed helplessly. “You guys are way too serious. Alright, you can upload your works on Weibo and tag us. If we get enough submissions, we’ll send out a little fan benefit, okay?”
“Aaaaah what kind of benefit?”
“Can you two kiss for a full minute so we can witness it firsthand?”
“A minute? That’s not enough for me — I need at least five!”
“Five minutes? Please. I need a full hour! I’ll even bring oxygen tanks for you!”
And there they went again. Tang Ling was itching to end the stream. “We’ll definitely take your suggestions into consideration. That’s all for today — thank you everyone for your support! See you next time!”
Before the viewers could react, she swiftly ended the broadcast.
The two of them exchanged a look, then both deflated, slumping back into their chairs.
Tan Shiyi gave her a half-playful glare. “Why did you promise them that? What if a ton of people actually do it — we’re not really going to kiss in front of them, are we?”
“How could that happen? They’re just joking. A photo together will be enough to make them happy. Uh, unless you don’t want to take one — then we can think of something else.”
Tan Shiyi’s voice softened. “I don’t mind.”
After a brief pause, she added quietly, “I just wonder if Miss Pu said anything else after we closed the comments.”
That reminded Tang Ling. “There’s a replay, right? Let’s check.”
They opened the livestream replay. It confirmed that after sending her gift, Pu Xiaoyu hadn’t said anything more. But it was impossible to tell if she’d still been watching.
Tang Ling didn’t know exactly what had happened between Tan Shiyi and Pu Xiaoyu, and it didn’t feel right to pry. “Have you two been in touch lately?” she asked tentatively.
Tan Shiyi lowered her gaze. “After I turned her down, she hasn’t reached out again.”
Tang Ling was even more confused. “You rejected her, yet she still came into the stream to call us a ‘perfect match’? What, trying to play the good guy now?”
To Tan Shiyi, those words had felt more like mockery — or a warning. But she couldn’t tell Tang Ling that. Looking away, she rubbed her fingertips together. “I don’t really know what she’s thinking either.”
Tang Ling noticed her unease. After hesitating a moment, she finally asked softly,
“Shiyi, do you have something on your mind?”
