- Chapter 10 - Two Boxes of Finger Cots Used Up
Yu Keqing woke up to a sensation of warmth. The space beside her was already empty, leaving behind only the rich fragrance of roses.
The sun outside was already high in the sky. Sunlight filtered through the blackout sheer curtains, gilding the bedroom with a layer of warm color.
She propped herself up, the blur of sleep still lingering in the depths of her eyes.
The neckline of her silk pajamas was slightly open, revealing ivory skin covered in hickeys of varying depths. Bite marks remained on her collarbone and shoulders, and even her earlobes were sucked red and swollen, unconcealable traces serving as a silent reminder not to forget last night’s tenderness.
The cushion of that chair had been drenched with pool after pool of fluid, all belonging to Lin Sheng. Before her consciousness plunged into darkness, her own hands had never once been dry.
Two boxes of finger cots from the drawer had been used up. Not many had been worn on her own fingers, they had mostly been fitted onto that pair of realistic faux hands. Lin Sheng would make her hold them, and then press the remote control, allowing her to clearly feel the vibrations radiating through them.
She had cried, shaking her head and wanting to stop, begging Lin Sheng that she couldn’t do this.
Sucking on her earlobe, Lin Sheng had murmured in a low voice, “Baby, you have to be naughty for it to work.”
That was a Lin Sheng she had never seen before, seductive, wanton, voluptuous, like a rose in full bloom, dangerous yet mesmerizing.
She had fallen into Lin Sheng’s domineering yet soft confinement. Acting as the dominant partner with the absolute least amount of control, she had nevertheless made Lin Sheng scream, crying and wailing as she called her “baby” and “wife Keke.”
The hand resting on her shoulder had clung tightly, gemstone colored nails sinking deep into her flesh. She had personally witnessed Lin Sheng go mad, lose her senses, tremble all over, as the dew-drenched forest once again gave rise to a gushing spring.
Propping up her forehead, her face could hardly hide her exhaustion. She closed her eyes, let out a soft sigh, and only then lifted the quilt to get out of bed.
She seemed to have forgotten something important. Shaking her heavy head, what was it again?
In the passenger seat, Xiao Bao clutched her little backpack tightly. Her mouth was pouted so high it could hang an oil bottle as she turned her face toward the window, refusing to speak.
The traffic light ahead turned red. Lin Sheng stopped the car, her slender, beautiful fingers lightly tapping the steering wheel. Sunglasses obscured most of her face.
Facing her throwing a tantrum daughter, she curved her fiery red lips into a low chuckle filled with indulgence. “Why are you throwing a little tantrum? You said you wanted Mommy to accompany you, but you didn’t specify which mommy. I am your mommy too.”
Xiao Bao bit her lip, incredibly exasperated. “No, you’re not.”
Lin Sheng reached out to turn the little face toward herself, then tapped the tip of her little nose. “When I was pregnant with you back then, I vomited so hard I felt half-dead.”
With her cheek gently pinched, puffing out like a little goldfish, Xiao Bao frowned with even greater displeasure, her eyes brimming with tears.
She had no memory of anything before the age of three. Her mommy had never mentioned it to her either, and she didn’t like this auntie.
Lin Sheng let go of her and explained, “Your mommy isn’t feeling well today, so she can’t accompany you.”
“Is Mommy sick again?” Xiao Bao immediately grew worried. “Then I’m not going to Xiao Ning’s house anymore. I want to go back and stay with Mommy.”
“Again?” Lin Sheng perceptively caught that word.
The light turned green, and the car continued driving forward.
Xiao Bao anxiously twiddled her fingers. Worried about her mommy, she spoke in a low voice: “Yes. Mommy was very sick before. She had to stay in the hospital for a very long time. Mommy sent me to the landlady grandma’s house. Later, the landlady grandma took me to the hospital to see Mommy. Mommy was lying on the bed, unable to move or speak, with tubes plugged in everywhere. The landlady grandma said Mommy had just finished surgery and needed to rest well.”
The car braked violently, triggering a succession of horn honks from behind.
Lin Sheng turned a deaf ear. Her flashy luxury ride also made the vehicles behind hesitate to do anything aggressive, they could only bypass her and drive away.
So what if you’re rich?
Xiao Bao was also startled, the seatbelt constricting her ribs painfully. She glared at Lin Sheng angrily, this bad auntie couldn’t even drive a car properly!
Lin Sheng gripped the steering wheel, her chest heaving violently from her rapid breathing.
Sick? Surgery? So that’s how the scar beneath Yu Keqing’s sternum got there?
She took a deep breath, adjusted her emotions, restarted the car, and said, “Mommy isn’t sick. She’s just too tired and needs a good rest.”
“Really?” Xiao Bao still didn’t quite believe it.
Lin Sheng nodded and said, “Of course it’s true. You and Xiao Ning just have a good time playing. I’ll come over to pick you up in the evening.”
“You have to make Mommy call me.”
“Okay.”
“A video call.”
“A phone call should be enough, right?”
“No.”
“…Fine, a video call. Satisfied now, my little princess?”
“Hmph.”
Wen Man’s own apartment was a high-rise loft. Usually, only she, Wen Ning, and a nanny lived there.
“How come it’s just you and Bao’er? Where’s Keqing?” Wen Man opened the door, inviting them inside while craning her neck to look behind for Yu Keqing.
Wen Ning was already impatient, pulling Xiao Bao into the house to change shoes. She said happily, “We’ve been waiting for you for ages, why are you only getting here now?”
“I left the house late, I’m sorry.” Xiao Bao apologized to her in a small voice.
“I thought you weren’t coming anymore. I asked my mom to call Auntie Lin, and Auntie Lin said you were already on the way.”
Once Xiao Bao changed into her slippers, Wen Ning pulled her into the living room. The sofa was piled with snacks and toys, and the TV was turned on, playing a concert video of a South Korean girl group.
Wen Ning was obsessed with K-POP. Without exception, her hobbies all revolved around K-POP. She was also great at dancing and had posted her dance videos online because of her outstanding looks, many entertainment agencies wanted to sign her.
Xiao Bao had a gentle personality and single-minded hobbies. While she didn’t know much about K-POP, she didn’t reject pop culture either. Whenever Wen Ning shared it with her, she would listen very intently.
This was precisely why Wen Ning could quickly become good friends with her. The soft, warm aura Xiao Bao carried was exactly like Yu Keqing’s, making people instinctively want to draw close and become her friend.
The two little girls snuggled on the sofa, their heads close together as they discussed something. Silver bell-like laughter quickly spread to every nook and cranny.
Lin Sheng leaned against the shoe cabinet with her arms crossed over her chest. No one knew how long she had been watching, but a smile played on her lips, and her gaze gradually softened.
Taking this scene in, Wen Man asked her, “Why didn’t Keqing come? Are you still forbidding her from leaving the house?”
Last time, she and Lin Sheng had thrown a huge argument precisely over this matter. She had been truly furious and even called the police, but Lin Sheng’s influence in A City was too vast, a single phone call could make a police car that was already halfway there turn around immediately. Lin Sheng had even warned her not to poke her nose into other people’s business again.
Lin Sheng withdrew her smile and said indifferently, “She was exhausted last night. I wanted her to rest well at home today.”
These words were incredibly suggestive. Wen Man furrowed her brows, sizing her up from top to bottom. Only then did she notice that Lin Sheng possessed a kind of glowing, radiant plumptitude that came from being well-fed.
Lin Sheng let her stare, and even deliberately took off the silk scarf around her neck, allowing Wen Man to clearly see the hickeys on it.
These, of course, were not left by Yu Keqing willingly. Rather, Lin Sheng had threatened her last night that if she didn’t kiss harder, she would leave her fingers soaking inside her until dawn, asserting that breaking her wouldn’t matter, and breaking her would only make it feel better.
“Hiss!” Wen Man sucked in a breath of cold air.
Lin Sheng wouldn’t explicitly explain anything to Wen Man, she only needed Wen Man to see it.
In the past, she used to pretend to be deeply in love with Yu Keqing in front of Wen Man, testing whether Wen Man would get jealous. But the results always disappointed her. Wen Man truly only saw her as a friend. Consequently, after returning home, she would vent her rage onto Yu Keqing.
During that period of time, her attitude toward Yu Keqing had been extremely vile. Yet Yu Keqing never got angry with her, always smiling with a good temper, then silently cleaning up the home she had smashed into chaos, picking up the shattered pieces of porcelain and glass shards from the floor.
Today, she actually hadn’t intended to let Wen Man see these, which was why she had specially worn a silk scarf. Removing the scarf was a spur of the moment decision, and whatever thoughts Wen Man had afterward was no longer within her scope of concern.
But what she could be certain of was that she no longer needed to use this method to test if Wen Man would get jealous. What Wen Man thought seemed to be something she had stopped caring about a very long time ago.
Lin Sheng didn’t change her shoes, she didn’t plan to stay long. Re-tying her silk scarf, she said, “I have an appointment with someone, so I’ll head out first. I’ll come back to pick up Xiao Bao in the evening. Xiao Bao didn’t eat much breakfast, so give her something to eat in a bit, but absolutely do not give her dairy products. She’s lactose intolerant; eating it easily causes her diarrhea.”
Recovering from her shock, Wen Man stammered, “Oh… Oh! I get it, I get it.”
She wasn’t a particularly calculating person. Seeing these hickeys, she assumed the misunderstanding between Keqing and Lin Sheng had already been resolved.
After being separated for so many years, it was only normal for dry firewood and a fierce fire to catch instantly. As someone who had been through it, she understood, understood completely.
Lin Sheng smiled without speaking. Only after stepping outside the door did she turn around and say, “I’ll trouble you to take care of my Xiao Bao today.”
“Why are you being so polite with me? Rest assured, I will definitely take good care of her for you.”
“Thank you,” Lin Sheng then said to Xiao Bao inside the room, “Baby, Mommy is heading back first. Have fun playing with Xiao Ning at Auntie Wen’s house. Mommy will come back to pick you up tonight.”
Xiao Bao ran over, pursing her lips as she made a small demand. “You have to let Mommy video call me.”
Lin Sheng bent down to pinch her little nose, promising. “Fine, I’ll give you a video call. Have fun playing, and listen to Auntie Wen.”
“Mm.” Xiao Bao took a step back.
Wen Man stepped forward to wrap an arm around Xiao Bao’s shoulder, saying to Lin Sheng, “Alright, Xiao Bao is very well-behaved. Stop worrying and hurry along.”
Lin Sheng straightened her back. “Then Mommy is leaving. Xiao Bao, say goodbye to Mommy.”
Xiao Bao wasn’t very willing, yet she didn’t want Auntie Wen to think she lacked manners. Auntie Wen was her mommy’s best friend, after all.
“…Mom, Mommy goodbye.” Her voice was very quiet, and she stumbled over her words.
This was already enough to make Lin Sheng very happy. Xiao Bao was finally willing to call her that.
A faint scent of roses landed on her face, warm and fragrant. Xiao Bao froze, a blush creeping up her pale, tender cheeks.
She covered her face, glared at Lin Sheng, stomped her foot, and turned around to run away.
“Huh?” Only Wen Man, who was completely out of the loop, muttered to herself, “Xiao Bao really is a shy and bashful child.”
Lin Sheng went downstairs and got into her car, placing a call to her assistant. “How is the matter I asked you to investigate coming along? Mm, send it to me now.”
Her expression couldn’t be considered good. She desperately wanted to know what kind of illness Yu Keqing had suffered from, and whether it had been completely cured.
No wonder. No wonder Yu Keqing was so thin. No wonder.
With a press of the accelerator, the elegant and sleek red sports car left a brilliant residual image on the roadway.
