- After Becoming Roommates with an Obnoxious Wealthy Heiress
- Chapter 32 - Am I Softening Toward You?
I am merely taking pity on you.
Qin Shuyue sighed, turning over to press the bank card beneath her pillow.
Shortly after she fell asleep, her dreams became like a monster with a gaping bloody maw, sucking her deep into a whirlpool. The monster’s tongue transformed into strips of warm, sticky red silk that coiled around her, consuming her body bit by bit, wrapping her tightly like a cocoon.
The space for survival grew narrower. The air she inhaled vanished as the red silk tightened further with every passing second, squeezing the very oxygen from her lungs.
Suffocation washed over her. Qin Shuyue tilted her head back, staring at the ceiling that resembled a black hole. Her eyes remained wide and fixed, her eyeballs protruding.
So breathless… Pain… Someone, save me…
Her hands clawed at the red silk strangling her neck. Her survival instinct made her desperate to pull the foreign object away, but the silk only tightened further against her struggles.
It was deathly tight, wringing the last bit of air from her chest.
“Yueyue, you’re being naughty again.”
Just as her eyes were becoming bloodshot and her entire body was bound motionless on the brink of asphyxiation, a gentle female voice drifted from behind her. It was like a light breeze passing through the mountains, carrying a familiar scent of peach perfume as it drifted leisurely toward her.
With a light flick, the red silk wound around Qin Shuyue’s neck fell away instantly. It lay obediently and neatly in the woman’s broad, warm palm, transforming into a hair tie adorned with a small red flower.
Without the slightest effort, she had pulled Qin Shuyue back from the edge of death.
Her throat loosened. A massive surge of fresh air rushed into her mouth, filling her impoverished, oxygen-starved lungs.
Strangely, the red silk that had bound Qin Shuyue dissolved into bubbles, floating into the air and dispelling every shadow of darkness that tried to approach her, decorating her pitch-black surroundings.
Freed from her restraints, Qin Shuyue’s legs went weak, and she collapsed onto her knees. She clutched her throat tightly, breathing and coughing uncontrollably at the same time.
“Yueyue, why did you fall to the floor? Get up quickly, the floor is dirty.”
It was still that familiar female voice.
Qin Shuyue looked up. The eternal darkness before her had transformed into a different scene at some unknown point. She was sitting on the floor, surrounded by familiar decorations.
A bowl of hot white porridge sat on the table, steam rising from it.
Before Qin Shuyue could regain her composure, the voice behind her spoke again.
“Be a good girl, Yueyue. Mommy will braid your hair, okay?”
Mommy!
Qin Shuyue’s eyes lit up. Those sounds just now it was Mommy!
Almost the next moment, she scrambled up from the floor. She turned around quickly, a surprised smile on her face.
“Mommy, I missed you so much.”
But before she could finish, her voice hung in mid air and then fell flat.
There was no mother behind her. Where was she?
Qin Shuyue pushed open every door in the house, but her mother was behind none of them. After circling around, she returned to the dining table. Looking at the steaming bowl of white porridge, she lifted a spoon and took a sip.
It was bland, even a bit salty. In the past, she had hated drinking white porridge most of all. But now, she could only reminisce about it in her dreams.
“Mommy, I miss you so much.”
Scalding tears dripped into the porridge. She sobbed as she held the bowl, crying out, “Mommy, they’re all bullying me.”
“Yueyue.”
The voice behind her rang out once more.
“Mommy is here to comb your hair, okay?”
Outside the dream, Zhu Lingyi sat quietly by the bed, watching the tears seep out of the sleeping girl’s eyes until they resembled a string of broken pearls.
Zhu Lingyi’s gaze darkened. She curled her fingers and gently wiped away the tears flowing from the corners of Qin Shuyue’s eyes.
“What exactly is happening that won’t even let you find peace in your dreams?”
Zhu Lingyi had just asked Gao Yin to send her that video while she was in the study. She had watched it several times, eventually staring at the screen while her mind wandered.
She never had the habit of helping others, especially since Qin Shuyue had rejected and annoyed her time and time again. However, if the rumors were left unchecked, they would only grow more vicious until they eventually resulted in a catastrophe.
Zhu Lingyi was a school board member. Every year, she provided financial or other forms of support for the school’s projects and activities. At the school, her status had long surpassed that of a student; she had joined the ranks of the upper class.
She was fully capable of making those who spread the rumors shut up and face punishment with a single word.
“Qin Shuyue…” Zhu Lingyi’s eyes flickered. “Do you want me to help you?”
But on the bed, Qin Shuyue was frowning deeply, moving restlessly in her sleep.
Zhu Lingyi was never a person prone to charitable acts, nor did she care about the fates of others. But why was it that every time something concerned this girl, she couldn’t help but look twice?
And then, she would interfere with her fate. She always found herself… granting her mercy.
That’s right, she told herself. I’m just pitying this unlucky soul.
She lowered her eyes. All she could see was Qin Shuyue’s frowning, sobbing face. She leaned down, slowly approaching Qin Shuyue’s ear, speaking softly yet with a hint of seduction—like a siren of the sea, both enchanting and dangerous, possessing the power to capture one’s soul.
“Beg me, and I’ll help you. How about it?”
She had never seen Qin Shuyue obediently bow her head to her. Every time, Qin Shuyue would either remain silent or avoid her. Even if she wore a submissive expression, Zhu Lingyi, who could see through people’s hearts, knew who truly worshipped her. She knew that people like Qin Shuyue, who were submissive on the surface, actually didn’t take her seriously at all in their hearts.
The rigid are easily broken, and she hated those who were untamable the most.
Qin Shuyue usually didn’t sleep soundly. It was only when she heard her mother’s voice in her dreams that her sleep became a bit more stable. Yet, for some reason, even though she had heard her mother today, her rest was still somewhat uneasy.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
The sharp, piercing sound of the alarm suddenly went off by Qin Shuyue’s pillow. She opened her eyes blearily, swiped her hand across the screen, and the noisy alarm finally stopped.
5:10 AM.
Qin Shuyue rubbed her eyes and let out a yawn. She had dreamed of her mother last night. But later, she seemed to hear some other voices…
Maybe it was a hallucination?
She didn’t think much of it. After getting dressed, she quickly washed up, put the books she needed for the day into her canvas bag, and then tiptoed downstairs.
Seeing the male and female servants working busily on the first floor, Qin Shuyue walked to the kitchen door. She spoke softly to a maid who was preparing breakfast for Zhu Lingyi: “Good morning, I…”
As soon as the maid saw it was Qin Shuyue, her eyes crinkled into a smile. “Miss Qin? Are you here to make breakfast for the young President Zhu again?”
Qin Shuyue checked the time. There was still a while before the bun shop opened. She nodded to the maid. “Yes.”
Previously, the maid would have been very willing to give up her spot and hand the kitchen over to her. But today, the maid refused her.
The maid explained, “Miss Qin, the young President Zhu is not dining at the dormitory today. If you have time, you can prepare dinner for her instead.”
Qin Shuyue gave a soft “oh” in response. However, she noted, “I have something to do tonight and won’t be back at school until after eleven, so…”
The maid didn’t need to hear the rest and simply nodded. “Miss Qin, taking charge of President Zhu’s meals is my responsibility. You needn’t feel any pressure.”
The corner of Qin Shuyue’s mouth twitched slightly as she turned to leave.
Qin Shuyue’s alarm usually went off at 5:10 AM sharp. Sometimes she would linger in bed and set another alarm for 5:30. When she didn’t sleep in, she would make breakfast for Zhu Lingyi to build a small amount of goodwill before rushing to the school cafeteria.
“Morning, Sister Yu.”
Regardless of what Sister Yu had done to her yesterday, they worked under the same roof, and she couldn’t let the relationship become too strained.
Sister Yu let out a cold snort, her eyes filled with an unavoidable trace of disdain. She looked Qin Shuyue up and down. The girl was only about 1.6 meters tall not particularly tall, and her looks weren’t exactly breathtaking. Then there was that family of hers.
She seemed honest and well-behaved on the surface, but who would have thought that behind everyone’s back, she was so skilled at seducing people? And what’s more, she was seducing a woman!
Her brain must be broken. A monster.
The thought of Qin Shuyue liking Zhu Lingyi and acting coquettishly in bed Sister Yu’s eyes filled with even more disgust, and a trace of nausea inadvertently flickered in the depths of her gaze.
As expected, children without parents were prone to having their thoughts turn extreme and twisted. Obviously, Sister Yu had also seen that video circulating wildly on the forum.
“Hey, Qin Shuyue, have you ever had a partner?”
Sister Yu stood with her arms crossed, her triangular eyes staring at her maliciously.
Qin Shuyue sensitively caught the underlying tone in Sister Yu’s words. She was almost immediately able to link this inquiry to the people who had bombarded her phone yesterday.
She had seen that video too.
So, Zhu Lingyi leaked that video just to watch her suffer?
She had originally thought that Zhu Lingyi was different from people like Song Jiajia, who were eager to show off because their families had a little money and organized groups to bully others. But Zhu Lingyi was the same as them. Perhaps even worse.
Her fist tightened beneath her sleeve. After taking a deep breath, she slowly relaxed her hand. She had experienced things like this countless times before, hadn’t she? She could handle it calmly.
Qin Shuyue’s lips moved, a faint and distant smile appearing on her face. She tried to use a steady voice to explain, “I… don’t like girls. Sister Yu, whether or not I have a boyfriend is my private business. You’re so concerned about me, I wonder if your son has bought a house or a car or found a partner in A City after graduating all these years?”
Since ancient times, houses and cars have been difficult issues. The moment this was mentioned, Sister Yu’s face turned an ashen iron-blue, and her arrogance flared up.
Who does she think she is, daring to point fingers at my family’s affairs!
Sister Yu pointed at Qin Shuyue and shouted, “You brat! How dare you meddle in my family’s business? Who do you think you are? You’ve got a sharp tongue, but aren’t you still relying on the school for aid? What are you so arrogant about? Someone of a lower status should have the posture of someone who bows their head. If it weren’t for the school’s money, your terminally ill mother in the hospital would have turned into a pile of dirt long ago”
“What of it!” Sister Yu’s eyes widened. She glared fiercely at Qin Shuyue, suddenly grabbed the hand Qin Shuyue had half-raised, and slapped her across the face. “You wanted to hit me? Look at your thin arms and legs what are you trying to pull? Did you forget the pinching from yesterday!”
Just as Sister Yu’s right hand was in the air, about to slap Qin Shuyue’s face again…
Suddenly, a cold voice came from outside the window.
“Boss.”
The instant she heard those words, Qin Shuyue trembled all over. She hurriedly lowered her head and turned her back to the window.
