After Becoming An Internet Sensation For Pretending To Be An Alpha, I Turned Into An Omega - Chapter 23
An Leng’s car was parked in a secluded spot behind the building, not far from where they were.
“Get in,” An Leng said, releasing her grip on Bai Yue’s hand and opening the car door.
Bai Yue lowered her head, feeling self-conscious.
Her clothes were soaked with noodle soup. Getting in the car now would definitely stain the seats, leaving greasy marks that would be hard to clean.
“If you don’t get in now, the fans will catch up to us here too,” An Leng continued, glancing deliberately over her shoulder.
Bai Yue pursed her lips and climbed into the car, bundling her coat tighter around herself.
“… How did you know we were here?” Bai Yue asked once An Leng got in.
“I was in the area,” An Leng replied, knowing the excuse sounded weak. She added, “Visiting an old friend.”
Old friend? Bai Yue frowned, trying to remember. An Leng had left the country early; who could she possibly know at G University?
Just as she was thinking this, the car suddenly started. Bai Yue snapped back to reality and blurted out, “Wait—Sister Zhang Lan and Xiao Xia are still inside!”
“Zhang Lan has her own staff. She doesn’t report to me.” With that, the car roared away, speeding just under the legal limit.
Hearing this, Bai Yue quickly messaged Wang Xi on WeChat, then called her assistant who was still buying bubble tea.
Zhang Lan was safe, but Shi Xiaoxia had nothing!
Fortunately, the assistant quickly replied, saying the situation was under control and that she had temporarily taken Shi Xiaoxia to a hotel to avoid trouble.
From the moment they got in the car, Bai Yue’s phone buzzed nonstop. An Leng, who had been silently enduring it for a while, finally snapped. With a tone only she knew how to deliver, she snapped, “You have time to worry about others? Does your body not hurt?”
“It does…” Bai Yue replied softly.
An Leng was taken aback. She had expected Bai Yue to stubbornly pretend everything was fine, not to answer so honestly.
Sniffing, Bai Yue continued, “But we still need to take care of them…”
Her voice cracked, betraying her true feelings. An Leng could almost hear the whine in her voice.
The car screeched to a halt, throwing Bai Yue forward. She was saved from flying out of the car only by her seatbelt.
“W-what’s wrong?” she clung to the door handle, her face pale with shock.
“I’m going to buy some clothes,” An Leng gritted out through clenched teeth, then stormed out of the car.
They drove fast the whole way and arrived at the hospital. There were a few small clothing stores nearby.
In a hurry, An Leng didn’t even take the bag and grabbed the clothes, tags and all.
They rushed back and got in line to register.
During this time, An Leng was all business, while Bai Yue just sat quietly.
In the end, the doctor only prescribed some tubes of ointment. But An Leng still wasn’t reassured and arranged for a private room, where she helped Bai Yue change and apply the medicine.
Inside the room, Bai Yue took off her baseball cap, her hair flattened by the hat. She casually flicked it back into place and looked up to see An Leng, holding the ointment and clothes, staring blankly at her.
“How… did you burn your face?” Bai Yue blurted out, her mind racing. “Don’t scare me like that.”
She still needed her face to make a living. She touched her cheek but felt no pain.
An Leng cleared her throat and averted her gaze, casually tossing the items onto the bed. “I got there in time. You’re not as bad off as you could have been.”
Relieved, Bai Yue shrugged off the coat. It was way too big. “Is this… your coat?”
“I grabbed it in a hurry earlier,” An Leng replied.
Bai Yue: ?
“I paid for it,” An Leng added.
The hoodie was soaked through with soup, making it completely unusable.
Bai Yue prepared to change. Although it was a pullover hoodie, it had two buttons at the collar. Just as she undid the first button, she suddenly felt something was off…
“You…” Bai Yue started to say, wanting to ask An Leng to leave, but the words died on her lips.
They were both girls, and normally there was nothing to hide…
But this was different!
If it were a close friend, like Shi Xiaoxia, Bai Yue wouldn’t have minded at all. She’d have been perfectly fine with a casual “bathing beauty” scene.
But with An Leng… she might have ended up with a nosebleed, exploding on the spot.
Being watched by An Leng while changing…
Just the thought of it was thrilling.
Just as Bai Yue didn’t know what to do, An Leng seemed to understand. She turned around and apologized, “Then I’ll step out. Call me when you’re done changing.”
The door opened and closed.
Bai Yue took a deep breath, picked up the hoodie, and went to the bathroom. Using clear water and the hospital-supplied soap, she quickly washed the soup stains from her body.
The burn felt much better when she put it under cold water, but the moment she stopped, the pain returned, hot and fiery.
An Leng had bought a simple white short-sleeved shirt, loose and shapeless.
After putting it on, she took out a small bottle of perfume she always carried and sprayed it. Now, instead of the standard hand sanitizer smell, her body was filled with the sweet aroma of white peaches.
At the door, An Leng was on the phone.
“Shi Xiaoxia? She went to the hotel…” An Leng glanced toward the door, then added half-heartedly, “Right, you don’t need to rush back. I can handle this. I’ll hang up now.”
“Sis Xi?” Bai Yue asked.
“Yes,” An Leng nodded, then picked up the ointment. “You can’t reach the spot yourself, right? Let me apply it for you?”
After Bai Yue sat down, An Leng gently rolled up the sleeve of the shirt, revealing the burn—a bright red patch starkly contrasting with the surrounding skin.
Dipping her fingertip into the ointment, she gently touched Bai Yue’s arm and began to apply it with soft strokes.
The cool, gentle touch sent shivers down Bai Yue’s spine, making her instinctively flinch backward.
“Did I hurt you?” An Leng asked softly.
Bai Yue lowered her head, biting her lip as she shook it gently.
“It doesn’t hurt… my legs just feel a little weak.”
From the beginning, An Leng had been taking care of everything, almost obsessively attentive. Bai Yue didn’t believe that An Leng had simply stopped by to visit an old friend on her way somewhere else.
Taking a deep breath, Bai Yue ventured, “You didn’t need to make such a fuss. You could have just gone to the pharmacy to buy some burn cream earlier.” Despite her words, her heart felt as sweet as honey.
“Bai Yue…” An Leng paused, but continued applying the ointment. “I still stand by what I said. You’re an artist for my company… I can’t allow any mishaps that might affect our operations.”
The honey jar shattered, its sweetness snuffed out before it could take root.
Lowering her gaze, Bai Yue wondered if they were now reduced to mere colleagues. Had everything An Leng done been just to clean up the mess caused by her earlier recklessness?
Bai Yue lifted her head to ask, but before she could speak, the pressure on her arm vanished.
“Done,” An Leng said, though she showed no intention of leaving. The ointment remained in her hand, its cap unfastened.
Meeting Bai Yue’s eyes, An Leng hesitated before asking, “I remember you also burned your back, didn’t you?”
Bai Yue nodded blankly.
“Turn around and lift your shirt,” An Leng said, her gaze fixed on Bai Yue’s body. Her voice was matter-of-fact, but her breathing was slightly heavier than normal.
Bai Yue’s mind exploded with a boom. Her face flushed crimson, and all her previous thoughts suddenly seemed irrelevant.
She lowered her head slightly and murmured, “… Okay.”
