After Becoming a Spare Tire, I Got Together with My White Moonlight - Chapter 6.2
Yan Guiqiu glanced at Song Anchen, then at Jiang Xuehe, and nodded.
Once Yan Guiqiu stepped out into the hallway, the previously quiet corridor instantly grew tense. Song Anchen had prepared a whole arsenal of indirect probing questions, but after sitting down beside Jiang Xuehe, she could only manage to blurt out one sentence after a long silence.
“Xuehe-jie, what do you think of Guiqiu?”
“More interesting than I imagined,” Jiang Xuehe replied.
Jiang Xuehe genuinely seemed to be in a good mood, and Song Anchen rarely saw her engage so deeply in conversation with anyone. Hearing this, Song Anchen let out a small sigh of relief.
“Guiqiu doesn’t mingle in our circles. Aside from school, her hobbies are just photography and traveling she’s never even stepped into a bar. So, when it comes to some of the unspoken rules in our social circles, she genuinely doesn’t understand them. Plus, she’s used to joking around with us, so she tends to act more casually with people she likes. I hope Xuehe-jie won’t take it to heart.”
“Of course not,” Jiang Xuehe said, blinking with a faint smile that seemed sincere. “I actually think we have quite a bit of fate between us.”
“Then…” Song Anchen hesitated for a long moment before finally asking, “I heard Xuehe-jie is quite close with Qin Xiangxi too. You two must have a good relationship, right?”
“We only met as children at a neighbor’s house,” Jiang Xuehe replied coolly. “We hardly ever keep in touch.”
That was all.
She could leave a banquet because Xia Yaoxin complained of a stomachache and personally take her to the hospital.
But if it were Qin Xiangxi, she’d probably just offer a few words of concern and ask someone else to escort her.
“Is that so?” Song Anchen was half-convinced. “I thought…”
“Thought what?” Jiang Xuehe asked with a light smile. “That I’d be moved by her ‘deep affection’?”
Song Anchen was momentarily speechless.
“If you can’t do something, it’s best not to give any hope from the start,” Jiang Xuehe paused, then added softly, “So don’t worry.”
Qin Xiangxi slept through the entire night at the hospital.
Yan Guiqiu went home in the middle of the night and managed a few hours of sleep before being woken by a phone call in the morning. The hospital informed her that Qin Xiangxi needed some additional tests apparently, certain examinations could only be conducted during the day.
Qin Xiangxi’s parents happened to be abroad on business and couldn’t be reached until late at night. The earliest flight back wouldn’t take off for another dozen or so hours. Qin Xiangxi didn’t have many friends, and her fellow students were busy complaining about how she’d delayed their trip. The teacher accompanying them had been taken in for questioning, so naturally, no one was available to visit her.
The contact information left during the previous night’s paperwork had been Yan Guiqiu’s, so any updates would naturally be relayed to her.
Rubbing her temples, Yan Guiqiu finally agreed and got up to wash up before heading to the hospital.
Song Anchen was still asleep in the guest room next door, and Yan Guiqiu decided not to wake her after some thought.
If one were to dig deeper, this incident might very well have been indirectly caused by her.
Aside from the inexplicable twists of fate, Yan Guiqiu couldn’t think of any other reason why Qin Xiangxi would be plagued by such relentless misfortune.
Had Song Anchen been driving just a bit faster this time, Qin Xiangxi might have lost her life.
Troublesome as it was, being so helpless was truly pitiable.
Yan Guiqiu sighed softly, carefully closed the door, and hailed a taxi downstairs to head to the hospital.
As she stepped out of the car at the hospital entrance, she turned her head absentmindedly and froze once more.
Jiang Xuehe was not far behind her, having just walked over from the parking lot. Seeing Yan Guiqiu, she too was momentarily surprised before breaking into a smile.
“What a coincidence.”
“Yeah, what a coincidence,” Yan Guiqiu replied, waiting in place for a moment to greet her. “Good morning, Xuehe-jie. Are you here to pick up Xia Yaoxin?”
“Morning,” Jiang Xuehe nodded. “The hotel Xia Yaoxin is staying at is closest to my place, so it’s convenient to give her a ride back.”
As she reached Yan Guiqiu’s side, Jiang Xuehe paused briefly, her gaze sweeping over her subtly but ultimately saying nothing as they walked into the hospital together.
When the elevator reached the third floor, the two bid each other goodbye and went their separate ways.
Yan Guiqiu went to the front desk to complete some paperwork. Hearing from the nurse that Qin Xiangxi was still unconscious, she decided to take the receipts and reports with her and drop them off in her room on the way.
At the latest, Qin Xiangxi’s parents would arrive by tonight, saving her another trip later.
Yan Guiqiu hadn’t arranged for any special VIP single room for Qin Xiangxi. The room was at the end of the hallway, with three beds. The middle one had just been vacated that morning, and the elderly patient near the door had gone out to sunbathe, leaving only Qin Xiangxi lying in bed with her eyes closed.
The breakfast delivered by the caregiver sat untouched on the bedside table, now cold.
Yan Guiqiu walked over slowly and had just placed the reports on the nightstand when a hand shot out from under the covers and grabbed her wrist.
Startled, she turned to see Qin Xiangxi squinting, clearly still half-asleep.
Whether it was sleep-talking or a hallucination in her drowsy state, Qin Xiangxi tightened her grip on Yan Guiqiu’s wrist and murmured another person’s name.
“Ah He-jie…”
Yan Guiqiu’s movements halted. She tried to pull away, but the half-asleep girl only tightened her grip, leaving red marks where her fingers pressed into the skin. Yan Guiqiu couldn’t help but frown.
Perhaps the struggle was too noticeable Qin Xiangxi’s eyes slowly opened, her gaze darting around before finally settling on Yan Guiqiu’s face.
Her expression immediately shifted. “Yan Guiqiu? Why is it you again?”
Her voice was hoarse from sleep but still carried a sharp, grating edge. Qin Xiangxi’s first reaction upon seeing Yan Guiqiu was panic. Once she regained her strength, she instinctively moved away, even shielding her chest as if fearing Yan Guiqiu had ill intentions.
This was exactly why she disliked seeing Qin Xiangxi.
Yan Guiqiu’s eyebrow twitched involuntarily. She shook her wrist. “Let go.”
Qin Xiangxi froze for a moment, hurriedly withdrawing her other hand. Her back bumped clumsily against the bedside cabinet, causing the water cup to wobble and roll onto the floor with a loud “clang.”
Fortunately, the cup was empty. It spun a couple of times before coming to a stop against the foot of the bed.
“I didn’t particularly want to see you here either, but you were the one who insisted on diving under my friend’s car tire. I just happened to give you a ride to the hospital, if you’re fine and can get discharged sooner, that’d be even better.”
“Here.” Yan uiqiu rubbed her wrist and picked up the nearby receipts to show Qin Xiangxi.
“Oh, right. Also, please reimburse the hospitalization and examination fees. Cash or scan the QR code?”
