After Becoming a Spare Tire, I Got Together with My White Moonlight - Chapter 56
Jiang Xueyang: “…”
So his own sister’s girlfriend was more important than him?
Fortunately, Jiang Xuehe couldn’t hear his inner thoughts; otherwise, she would have struggled to suppress a roll of her eyes before retorting: “Obviously.”
Yan Guiqiu had just finished meeting with her thesis advisor when she spotted Jiang Xuehe waiting downstairs.
Although they had been in contact via phone, seeing Jiang Xuehe on campus was still a pleasant surprise. The moment she saw her, she couldn’t help but quicken her pace. Then, before Jiang Xuehe could even turn around, she launched herself into a flying leap.
Jiang Xuehe swayed slightly from the impact, but she immediately realized who was behind her. Yan Guiqiu clung to her back like a koala, her arms wrapped tightly around Jiang Xuehe’s neck.
Several students nearby began to stare. Two of them clearly recognized Yan Guiqiu; they looked at her with hesitant expressions as if they wanted to say hello, but feeling awkward, they eventually pretended not to see anything and hurried away.
Jiang Xuehe patted Yan Guiqiu’s arm, whispering a reminder: “People are watching.”
Yan Guiqiu didn’t seem to care: “What’s wrong with a hug? The girls in my class walk around with their arms linked all day and even go to the bathroom together. No one says a word about that…”
Despite her words, she obediently let go and stood beside Jiang Xuehe.
Jiang Xuehe gave her a questioning look. Yan Guiqiu, suddenly realizing how her previous words might have sounded, raised her hand solemnly to prove her innocence: “I promise I have never proactively initiated hugging or clinging with them.”
Jiang Xuehe keenly caught the keyword: “‘Proactively’?”
Yan Guiqiu: “…”
Her mouth was way too fast.
Yan Guiqiu mentally slapped herself twice, then raised her hand to swear: “Not since I’ve been with you. Not now, and definitely not in the future. All my classmates know I have a girlfriend. If you’re still worried, I can post a photo of us in the class group chat as a public announcement?”
Seeing Yan Guiqiu get more and more ridiculous, Jiang Xuehe finally couldn’t help but let out a laugh. She patted Yan Guiqiu’s shoulder and said: “Alright, stop being silly. Let’s go get some lunch.”
Yan Guiqiu whispered: “I only said all that because I saw you were in a bad mood.”
Jiang Xuehe heard her, and the smile on her face softened even more. She replied softly: “The moment I saw you, I was already happy.”
Yan Guiqiu rubbed her ear and gave a goofy grin.
Jiang Xueyang’s arrival was actually somewhat abrupt—not because he was early, but because he was late.
He was originally supposed to arrive the day before. Jiang Xuehe had even postponed her date with Yan Guiqiu to prepare for her brother’s visit. Despite their private differences, they were still siblings by blood, and she didn’t want to be too neglectful toward him.
However, just as he was about to depart, Jiang Xueyang suddenly claimed he had a meeting. He only remembered to call his sister when his original flight was nearly scheduled to land. She wasn’t even sure if he had only remembered because an assistant prompted him.
Jiang Xuehe wasn’t exactly heartbroken over not seeing her brother sooner, but his dismissive attitude was nonetheless irritating. Especially since she had moved her date with Yan Guiqiu for him.
They had missed a movie on its very last day in theaters; now they would have to wait for the digital release. Yan Guiqiu had been quite disappointed about it. It was a small thing, but in Jiang Xuehe’s eyes, it was far more important than her brother’s performative attempts at family bonding.
Besides, Jiang Xueyang wasn’t even doing a good job at the performance.
Feeling no sympathy left for him, Jiang Xuehe recounted the situation to Yan Guiqiu like a joke as they walked. When Yan Guiqiu asked if they should invite Jiang Xueyang to lunch, Jiang Xuehe shook her head.
“I saw him carrying a mountain of gifts. He’s probably going to take Qin Xiangxi out for a meal.” Jiang Xuehe paused, her expression becoming subtle as a thought occurred to her. “…If a scene breaks out later, I don’t want to be there to suffer through it with him.”
Yan Guiqiu thought of the same thing. Lately, Qin Xiangxi’s parents had been watching her like hawks. However, because their company was demanding their attention, the couple had been taking turns picking her up. They were more diligent than the grandparents waiting outside elementary schools.
If the young Master Jiang wanted to treat someone to an “apology meal,” he certainly wouldn’t go to a place as low-status as the cafeteria. Yet, the moment he stepped out with Qin Xiangxi, the chance of being caught by Mr. or Mrs. Qin was nearly one hundred percent.
It might be fine if it were Mr. Qin; at least he wouldn’t yell in public. Unfortunately, as of yesterday, the duty of picking up Qin Xiangxi had fallen to Mrs. Qin.
Based on the original plot, Jiang Xueyang was not the type to stand still and endure a scolding. He had frequently clashed with Qin Xiangxi because of such things.
Thinking of this, Yan Guiqiu tugged on Jiang Xuehe’s sleeve and suggested in a low voice: “Should we take a different exit?”
Watching a spectacle was fun, but being dragged into it was not. Jiang Xuehe nodded in agreement.
However, before they could turn around, a classmate called out Yan Guiqiu’s name.
They stopped and saw a female student with round-framed glasses running toward them. She had a small, cute face with a bit of “baby fat.”
“Oh, I was calling you just now! Why didn’t you answer?” The girl looked at Jiang Xuehe, studying her for a moment before realizing this was a new face. Her eyes lit up with realization. “So this is the ‘hidden treasure’ girlfriend you’ve been keeping? No wonder you were so distracted.”
Yan Guiqiu leaned toward Jiang Xuehe and whispered: “A classmate of mine.”
They weren’t close enough to be specifically mentioned, but judging by the girl’s attitude, their relationship wasn’t bad either. Yan Guiqiu introduced the two of them.
The girl curiously observed Jiang Xuehe for a few seconds before giving a thumbs-up. “A perfect match! A talented man and a beautiful… no, for you two, it should be a talented woman and a beautiful woman?” She confused herself with her own words, but ended with a vigorous nod and a wide smile. “Anyway, you’re perfect together!”
Jiang Xuehe’s lip twitched slightly. She thought to herself that the people Yan Guiqiu knew were certainly unique. Still, she maintained a polite smile and said sincerely: “Thank you.”
Yan Guiqiu coughed to change the subject: “So, why were you calling me?”
“Oh!” The girl snapped out of it, her excitement level jumping several notches. “I heard there’s a live confession happening at the rehearsal hall! There are roses covering the whole place; it’s practically ready for a campus-wide broadcast. It’s so lively! My roommates aren’t home, so I wanted to see if you wanted to go check it out…”
Jiang Xuehe saw that Yan Guiqiu seemed interested and asked: “Are you hungry yet?”
Yan Guiqiu caught her drift and shook her head: “I had a late breakfast, so I’m not hungry yet.”
“Then let’s stop by on the way,” Jiang Xuehe said.
The girl was even more thrilled. As she turned to lead the way, she didn’t forget to wave them forward. “This way, this way! This shortcut is faster. If we hurry, we might catch the best part!”
Yan Guiqiu unconsciously quickened her pace. Jiang Xuehe glanced at her and leaned in to whisper: “Are you very interested in this kind of thing?”
“Just a little bit.” Yan Guiqiu gestured a small distance with her fingers. “It’s good to see more and broaden one’s horizons.”
Jiang Xuehe couldn’t help but laugh. “What kind of horizons can you broaden with this?” Then, her eyes narrowed slightly as she asked: “Don’t tell me you’re planning to practice these things on someone else in the future?”
It was a trap question. Yan Guiqiu’s survival instinct triggered instantly. Her back straightened, and she denied it immediately: “Of course not!”
Jiang Xuehe gently patted her back and chuckled: “Mhm, I believe you.”
Yan Guiqiu: “…”
So, she was just teasing me for fun.
However, Yan Guiqiu wasn’t entirely without “learning” intentions.
“Romance doesn’t have to be limited to confessions or proposals. My confession was a bit rushed because I was too eager; I didn’t prepare it well.” Thinking back to her own confession, Yan Guiqiu still felt a bit of regret. “But for a future proposal or something similar, I definitely want to add a bit more of a sense of ceremony.”
