After Becoming a Spare Tire, I Got Together with My White Moonlight - Chapter 42.2
Jiang Xuehe glanced at Yan’s father’s back in surprise, never expecting this seemingly stern uncle to have such a childlike side.
“My sister loved playing with these when she was little,” Yan Guizhou continued. “Once, it was too late, and Dad promised to buy them for her but couldn’t find any. She’s remembered it ever since.”
Then, leaning closer, she whispered to her sister, “Don’t say you don’t like them now. Last time, with the lactobacillus drink, he was sulking for days afterward.”
Yan Guiqiu let out an “Oh,” and while she was there, she took the opportunity to ask about what Teacher Zhang had mentioned.
“Fighting and ending up in the hospital? I think I remember something like that,” Yan Guizhou said, still somewhat recalling the incident.
“So, what exactly happened?” Yan Guiqiu asked.
Beside them, Gu Yuyin, who was unpacking the sparkler box, also pricked up her ears to listen.
According to Yan Guiqiu herself, her childhood was quite uneventful, so she rarely brought it up.
“You should ask Anchen Sister about it. I was only in first grade back then, how could I remember clearly?” Yan Guizhou said. “Wasn’t she the one who took you to the hospital?”
Yan Guizhou only knew that after that incident, their relationship had improved by leaps and bounds.
Before, they were just good classmates and friends who occasionally visited each other. But after that, it felt like they had upgraded to being the most important confidants in each other’s lives.
However, according to Yan Guiqiu’s recollection, she and Song Anchen had always gotten along well naturally and without any abrupt changes.
Yan Guizhou rolled her eyes at her sister and subtly gestured toward Jiang Xuehe beside her.
Jiang Xuehe wasn’t the type to get jealous over something like this. Noticing Yan Guiqiu’s phone screen light up out of the corner of her eye, she smiled and sat down, adopting an attentive posture. “I’m quite curious too.”
Song Anchen sent a voice message asking what was going on.
Yan Guiqiu recounted the story about Teacher Zhang again.
Song Anchen responded with six ellipses, then disdainfully remarked that if Qin Xiangxi was only now developing a conscience, it would be nothing short of a miracle.
She then went on to explain the details of what happened back in elementary school very clearly.
It was actually quite similar to what happened later.
It was another instance of the plot forcing a complicated relationship between Qin Xiangxi and Yan Guiqiu.
Listening to Song Anchen’s retelling, Yan Guiqiu’s memories slowly resurfaced. She even recalled that a similar scenario had appeared in the storyline, though the outcome was different.
Yan Guiqiu and Qin Xiangxi first met in elementary school.
Due to her parents’ work, Qin’s family moved to Ningcheng temporarily, and they transferred their daughter to a new school, where she happened to be placed in Yan Guiqiu’s class.
Since Yan Guiqiu was the most composed student in the class, she was assigned to look after the new student and was even seated next to her as her deskmate.
In reality, it just meant acting as a guide for the new student for a few days.
They shared textbooks before the new ones arrived, and Yan Guiqiu showed her around the classroom, playground, cafeteria, and teachers’ offices.
When Qin Xiangxi first arrived, her parents were swamped with work and entrusted the family nanny to pick her up from school. The nanny wasn’t particularly attentive she dressed Qin Xiangxi in old clothes before she even received her new uniform and was often lax about meal preparations and transportation. Struggling to adapt to her new environment, Qin Xiangxi became unusually quiet and withdrawn. Even if Yan Guiqiu spoke to her ten times, she’d be lucky to get one response.
So Yan Guiqiu didn’t expect to build much of a relationship with her. After showing her around and inviting her out a few times, only to be ignored or turned down, Yan Guiqiu returned to her own circle of friends.
Soon, some troublemaking boys at school noticed Qin Xiangxi’s solitary habits.
At first, they cornered her on the school playground, demanding money.
Qin Xiangxi likely complied a few times, and the boys, emboldened by their success, grew increasingly aggressive. On one occasion, when she didn’t have enough money on her, they even tried to get physical.
Yan Guiqiu happened to pass by, grabbed Qin Xiangxi, and pulled her away. She then reported the boys to their homeroom teacher.
The boys were reprimanded by their teacher and had their parents called in. Resentful but intimidated by Yan Guiqiu, they redirected their anger toward Qin Xiangxi.
And once again, Yan Guiqiu happened to witness it.
She ended up in a fight with the boys. The ten-year-old brats were beaten black and blue, but Yan Guiqiu didn’t come out unscathed either.
This time, the teachers couldn’t downplay the incident and had to bring everyone involved to the principal’s office.
It was only then that Qin Xiangxi’s parents learned their daughter was being bullied at school. They immediately dropped everything and rushed to the school.
Once inside the principal’s office, they began loudly insisting that the bullies be held accountable.
At the time, the actual bullies were still in the infirmary getting their wounds treated. Only Yan Guiqiu with a bandaged scratch on her face and Qin Xiangxi, her cheek slightly swollen, stood quietly to the side, heads bowed.
The moment Qin’s parents entered, they first expressed their heartache for their daughter, then turned their attention to Yan Guiqiu, who appeared rather composed. Their expressions darkened.
Without bothering to find out the truth, they pinned the blame entirely on Yan Guiqiu and began hurling accusations and insults at her.
The teachers and principal were momentarily stunned, only snapping out of it after a moment to explain the situation.
If the teacher hadn’t reacted quickly and stepped in, Mrs. Qin might have even kicked Yan Guiqiu.
