After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, the Movie Queen Just Wants to Pamper Her Wife - Chapter 84
Xi Xiaohe rushed to the roadside. While waiting for a cab, as if possessed, she couldn’t help but turn her head to take one last look at the slightly effeminate name on the bar’s signboard, only to see Ji Yi striding toward her with confident, powerful steps.
Damn it. Even now, she still found herself hopelessly mesmerized by those athletic strides.
And then, her heartbeat spiraled out of control.
Xi Xiaohe was certain this wasn’t just the accelerated pulse from her sprint to the roadside.
A heart racing from exertion couldn’t possibly stir up emotions this intense, this tangled with love and hate, fury and shame. No, this erratic pounding could only be because of that wretched woman walking toward her!
Xi Xiaohe abruptly averted her gaze, forgetting all about the bar sign.
The late September night breeze had already turned cool.
Right now, all she wanted was for a taxi to arrive quickly she had no desire to get beaten up by Ji Yi in the middle of the street.
Back in the bar, lost in the heat of the moment, she hadn’t held back. She had struck hard enough to make Ji Yi’s lips and nose bleed.
Xi Xiaohe knew her limits. She was no match for Ji Yi. If not for the fact that Ji Yi hadn’t fought back.
Wait. Why hadn’t she fought back?
With that thought, she glanced back again. Ji Yi maintained her usual steady pace, the distance between them shrinking with every step.
Though her heart pounded with dread, Xi Xiaohe didn’t run.
Amid the still-bustling street, she could almost hear the weight of Ji Yi’s footsteps each one landing squarely on the rhythm of her heartbeat.
Damn it! Xi Xiaohe cursed inwardly again. Since when had the approach of someone she liked become such torment?!
Running away had never been her style. Hearing the footsteps now right behind her, Xi Xiaohe spun around abruptly. Caught off guard, Ji Yi halted mid-step, stopping just a meter away.
The two stood face to face as the night wind carried faint traces of salt from the sea.
Ji Yi’s lips parted slightly, but no words came out.
Xi Xiaohe tucked a few loose strands of hair behind her ears, then met the gaze of the bruised woman before her. For once, Ji Yi didn’t look so cold and unapproachable.
The passing cars roared too loudly; the music from the bar was too loud. Uncomfortable with the silence, Xi Xiaohe broke it first. “Go ahead. I won’t fight back.”
She struck a defiant pose, her tone brimming with false bravado.
Ji Yi’s battered face curved into a faint smile. “You sure?”
“Stop wasting time!” Xi Xiaohe was never one to back down.
Ji Yi stepped forward, her fist raised with professional precision enough to make Xi Xiaohe flinch and shriek, arms flying up to shield her head.
But the expected blow never came.
Instead, Ji Yi’s knuckles came to rest lightly beneath Xi Xiaohe’s chin.
Realizing she wasn’t about to be hit, Xi Xiaohe lowered her arms and took a step back, then lifted her chin defiantly. “I don’t need your mercy!”
Ji Yi’s usually neat bun had loosened, a few stray strands framing her forehead.
She smiled again.
It was fleeting so faint it was almost imperceptible.
But Xi Xiaohe didn’t miss it. She was hypersensitive to Ji Yi’s microexpressions. Normally, Ji Yi’s face was unreadable.
Well. Except in bed.
“What the hell are you laughing at?” Xi Xiaohe, like dampened paper, had already softened.
The ferocity in her eyes was gone, and the edge in her voice had faded.
At this moment, there was a tenderness in her expression that made Ji Yi momentarily lose herself.
To be fair, aside from her striking eyes, as a musician, her voice was exceptionally pleasant.
Ji Yi had a thing for voices, and she particularly loved the sounds Xi Xiaohe made during those moments.
Every time she remembered, she couldn’t help but feel inexplicably excited.
“Ji Yi, are you actually a pervert?!” Xi Xiaohe was certain Ji Yi was thinking about that right now.
This damn woman had shamelessly declared more than once that she was all about physical pleasure, not emotions.
“You know I’m a pervert, yet you still like me?”
“You’re the only person I’ve ever seen who still smiles at the person who just hit them.”
“Xi Xiaohe, have you only ever hit me in your life?”
“…” Xi Xiaohe was at a loss for where their conversation was heading.
Were they actually talking right now?
Hadn’t Ji Yi chased after her to retaliate?!
“Not enough of a beating yet?” Xi Xiaohe put on a fierce act again.
“You’re such a boring woman,” Ji Yi murmured, lightly dabbing the corner of her mouth before letting out a soft hiss.
“Does it hurt?” It was too easy to lose control around Ji Yi. Xi Xiaohe stared into her eyes and thought.
Maybe this lack of resistance was the root of all her suffering.
“Wanna find out?” Ji Yi licked the corner of her lips, her tone sending a chill down Xi Xiaohe’s spine.
“Why didn’t you fight back or stop me earlier?”
“Letting you hit me was that enough to calm you down?”
“I wasn’t even angry!” Xi Xiaohe refused to admit that lately, she’d been furious every single day angry at Ji Yi, and angry at herself. Angry that Ji Yi only wanted to sleep with her, angry that she knew Ji Yi was trash but still couldn’t let go.
She hated herself for it.
She even hated the fact that she liked Ji Yi.
But those nights at Pink Lily, the more she tried to find a replacement in the crowd, the more she missed Ji Yi instead.
Xi Xiaohe, if you keep humiliating yourself like this, don’t expect me to care about you anymore!
She even mentally echoed the threats her father, General Xi, used when she misbehaved.
But it was useless. She couldn’t forget her.
“So you hit me just because you felt like it?”
Xi Xiaohe turned her face away and asked toward the street, “Why did you chase after me?”
“Xi Xiaohe, if you’re so desperate to see me every night at Pink Lily, why not just come to the station?”
One of Ji Yi’s colleagues was also into AA relationships. A few days ago, she mentioned seeing Xi Xiaohe at the bar.
Xi Xiaohe was something of a celebrity at Ji Yi’s precinct not just because she’d pursued Ji Yi so publicly, but also because she was the eldest daughter of the Xi family.
Tonight, while working overtime, Ji Yi got another message from her colleague: Miss Xi is at Pink Lily alone again. Officer Ji, did you two break up or something?
Ji Yi had long stopped clarifying her relationship with Xi Xiaohe.
The entire station thought they were dating.
After getting the message, she wrapped up her work and rushed over.
Sure enough, Xi Xiaohe was still as unsociable as ever.
Or maybe she knew her temper made it hard to make friends or that, with her personality, nothing ever lasted long with anyone.
“Stop being shameless! Pink Lily is clearly a place for drinking, and I’ve already made it clear, I won’t have coffee with you again!” Xi Xiaohe’s pride wouldn’t allow her to admit so easily that she’d been seen through.
“What about drinking, then?” Ji Yi’s gaze suddenly sharpened, her dark pupils exuding the aura of a predator closing in on its prey.
“I don’t want to drink anything.”
“Xi Xiaohe, two years ago in August, I bought you a ‘Searching for Her in the Crowd’ at Pink Lily. And tonight, weren’t you drinking just that.”
“Shut up! Ji Yi, shut up, shut up,” Xi Xiaohe didn’t want to hear another word.
How dangerous this woman was! Ah, she shouldn’t have forgotten Ji Yi was a detective, the kind of person most adept at seeing through people and picking up on details.
She was so cunning, pretending to have no memory of that incident, deliberately ignoring her rejections, and appearing nonchalantly by her side every time she had resolved to end their fruitless game.
The first time they met, Ji Yi said she looked lonely.
When they were bridesmaids together, Ji Yi said her only friend had abandoned her to get married, leaving her lonely.
And now? Xi Xiaohe stared at Ji Yi, who was uncharacteristically silent was this just another one of her tricks, playing the loneliness card again?
“I’ve been very busy lately,” Ji Yi said in her usual emotionless tone, laced with a faint hint of innocence.
Listen to that, just listen even an apology had to sound so lonely. Xi Xiaohe really wanted to rush over and beat her up again. But her clenched fists eventually loosened, and after taking a deep breath, she snapped, “What does your busyness have to do with me?”
“Xi Xiaohe, admit it, you miss me.”
Ji Yi’s tone returned to its usual indifference.
Xi Xiaohe couldn’t stand her casual provocations anymore. She was so easily shattered by Ji Yi just one simple sentence, and the resolve she had painstakingly built to move forward crumbled completely.
“Ji Yi, why are you always such an asshole to me?!”
“Because,” Ji Yi said coldly, watching Xi Xiaohe’s vulnerability, “after sleeping with you, I lost interest in sleeping with anyone else.”
Xi Xiaohe lunged at her again, fists pounding wildly against Ji Yi’s body.
“Ji Yi, you bastard! Ji Yi, I hate you so much.” she cursed between punches.
But her fists had already, unconsciously, softened into light taps.
Like the playful bickering and coquetry between lovers.
Ji Yi let her vent.
Yes, she was exactly that much of an asshole.
Since Xi Xiaohe had ruined her for other women, she wasn’t about to let her go.
Eventually, Xi Xiaohe grew too embarrassed to keep up the act. “Fight back!” she yelled. “Come on, fight back!”
Ji Yi grabbed the back of Xi Xiaohe’s neck and pulled her forward abruptly, sealing her lips in a precise kiss that cut off her words completely.
Xi Xiaohe struggled at first, flailing like a refined lady suddenly accosted by a ruffian.
But soon, her body betrayed her. She stopped kicking, stopped flailing, and instead gripped Ji Yi’s waist, pressing herself against her in abandon.
A long moment later, the two finally parted.
“You obviously want me,” Ji Yi said mercilessly, staring into Xi Xiaohe’s slightly reddened eyes.
“You’re right,” Xi Xiaohe said, “but let me tell you, I don’t just want to have coffee with you. I want a lot more. If you’re not willing to give it, then stop messing with me!”
“And what if I insist on messing with you?”
“Ji Yi, please act like a decent human being. I won’t have coffee with you without clarity, and I won’t drink with you without clarity either.”
“How is it unclear? You clearly enjoyed it and wanted it.”
“Yes, I won’t deny that I wanted it, but I want more, and you can’t give me that.”
“Really?”
“Absolutely true.”
“What else do you want?”
“I—”
Xi Xiaohe didn’t want to sound like a beggar pleading for love. In the end, she changed her words. “Forget it if you don’t understand.”
With that, she turned to leave.
But Ji Yi grabbed her and pulled her back, gripping her hand tightly. “You’re not going anywhere until you explain.”
“Ji Yi, if you liked me, you’d know what I want.”
“I like sleeping with you. Isn’t that enough?”
“Right now, you’re acting like a clingy high schooler.” Xi Xiaohe shook off Ji Yi’s hand.
“Xi Xiaohe, you’re wasting time and deceiving yourself.”
“Ji Yi, you’re just a coward who’s afraid to like someone.”
The two stood in tense silence for a while.
Finally, Xi Xiaohe said, “I’m tired. I’m going home.”
“Xi Xiaohe, don’t go.”
Her steps faltered. Damn it! She was softening again.
“I already said I missed you. What more do you want from me?”
“Missing me isn’t enough.” Xi Xiaohe spoke with her back still turned. “I want you to give up your entire garden for me. I want you to walk through this world holding my hand.”
“Fine, I’ll do as you say. Happy now?”
Xi Xiaohe spun around abruptly. “Ji Yi, are you messing with me?”
“I’m not.”
“You just want to sleep with me.”
“Well, that’s definitely part of it.”
Xi Xiaohe was so furious she nearly staggered. How could there be such a shameless woman in the world!
But what truly devastated her was that, despite knowing how shameless Ji Yi was, she still stopped for her.
“Tonight, come to my place, okay?”
“Ji Yi, you’re such a scoundrel!”
“Only to you.”
“You’re awful!” Though her mind still urged her to leave, her body betrayed her once again.
Ji Yi stepped forward and took her hand.
After a brief struggle, the two walked together into the deepening night.
After half a month of contemplation, Ji Yi decided to give it a try with Xi Xiaohe.
