After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Was Spoiled by a Sweet Omega - Chapter 90
Ning Xuan stayed in the hospital for two days before being discharged and returning to the hotel. The crew had given her a five-day leave, but after only three days of rest, she was itching to get back to filming.
Yu Yazhi, naturally, wouldn’t allow it. Her reason was simple: “You haven’t fully recovered yet.”
To prove she was perfectly healthy and to get back on set, Ning Xuan clung to her, proving her vitality over and over again. After two days of indulgence in the hotel room, Yu Yazhi finally relented and let her return to the crew.
However, Yu Yazhi pulled Director He aside privately, telling him there was no rush to catch up on the schedule and that the actors’ health was the top priority. Consequently, without her knowledge, Ning Xuan’s daily filming time was slashed to just four hours less than half of what it used to be.
With so much free time on her hands, Yu Yazhi took her out to play. Within a few days, they had explored almost every corner of Hengzhuang. They even visited the same lotus root starch shop three times; Ning Xuan simply couldn’t get enough of it.
Today, as they returned from their latest bowl of lotus root starch, they found an uninvited guest waiting at their hotel door.
It was Yu Jiayan.
His head was wrapped in white gauze, and his face was a mess of bruises and swelling, he looked practically disfigured. The moment he saw Yu Yazhi, he burst into tears. “Sis, Qu Ran was taken by Shang Li. I can’t find her anywhere.”
Yu Yazhi was completely unaware of this. She frowned instantly. “What’s the situation? What happened?”
Yu Jiayan began to recount the events through his sobs. “She went too far. She made Qu Ran cry. Qu Ran didn’t want to go with her! Damn her! It was a kidnapping!”
He explained that he had lost consciousness that night. His bodyguards had scrambled to get him onto the helicopter and rush him to the hospital. By the time he woke up, he was once again under the strict watch of their parents. It had taken several desperate schemes for him to escape again. He had people looking for Shang Li, but there was still no news. Unable to wait any longer, he had come to his sister for help.
Seeing Yu Jiayan in such a wretched state, Yu Yazhi felt a flicker of concern. “Those injuries, how did they happen?”
“Shang Li did it.” Seeing her concern, Yu Jiayan immediately began his tearful accusation. “She hit me so hard. She grabbed me by the hair and slammed my head against the wall, over and over again. She was so strong, Sis I almost died.
You almost never saw me again.”
He truly was seriously injured.
“A severe concussion. I was vomiting in the hospital for days, and I’d faint the second I tried to get out of bed. Sis, Shang Li has violent tendencies. She’s going to hurt Qu Ran. Please help me, okay?” He reached out to grab Yu Yazhi’s hand. There was no exaggerated shouting or loud accusations this time just a pitiful, desperate plea for help.
Yu Yazhi didn’t say anything. She pulled her hand back, swiped her key card, and entered the room. Ning Xuan followed. Knowing it wasn’t her place to interfere in a sibling dispute, she stayed quiet and poured him a glass of water.
Yu Jiayan seemed to only just notice her. He immediately grabbed her hand, seeking an ally. “Ning Xuan, you’re the kindest person I know. Please help me, put in a good word for me.”
“Calm down.” Ning Xuan pulled her hand away, went into the bathroom, soaked a clean towel in water, wrung it out, and handed it to him.
Yu Jiayan had arrived in a hurry; in the sweltering heat, his face was flushed deep red and covered in a mixture of sweat and tears. He looked utterly pathetic. “Wipe your face.”
“Thank you.” Yu Jiayan took the towel and wiped away the grime, but his face remained unnaturally red, and his lips were pale and cracked. He gulped down the water Ning Xuan had poured, licking his lips as if he were parched.
Ning Xuan watched him for a moment, finding his appearance strange. She reached out to touch his forehead and gasped. “You have a fever! You’re burning up!”
Yu Yazhi was leaning against the floor-to-ceiling window, her lips pursed as she debated whether or not to get involved. Hearing Ning Xuan’s cry, she hurried over.
Ning Xuan shouted, “Yazhi, your brother has a fever! It’s probably an infection from his wounds!”
Yu Yazhi placed her hand on his forehead. Her expression changed instantly. “You are burning up. You idiot! You’re sick, what are you doing running around?”
Even as she scolded him, she grabbed Yu Jiayan and began pushing him toward the door. “To the hospital, now!”
Yu Jiayan shook his head, leaning against the doorframe and refusing to budge. “Not until you ask Shang Li where Qu Ran is. I need to see her. Without me by her side, what is she going to do?”
It was a late realization for him, Qu Ran might not be Qu Ran anymore. He had to see her; otherwise, everything would be too late.
Yu Yazhi didn’t give in because of Yu Jiayan’s threats, but because she truly wanted to know the situation on Qu Ran’s end. She took out her phone and called Shang Li, but the call didn’t go through; no one answered.
“Hospital first. I’ll call again in a bit.”
“Will you really call later?”
“If I don’t, are you just going to stay here and stay stubborn with me?” Yu Yazhi was fuming. she snapped, “Your IQ isn’t high to begin with. If you keep burning up like this, you’ll turn into a total moron. No one will be able to save you then and Qu Ran certainly won’t want you!”
At the mention of Qu Ran, Yu Jiayan finally behaved. He still had to bring her home; he couldn’t afford to be sick.
“Fine,” he agreed, stepping aside. “Let’s go to the hospital.”
Yu Yazhi pulled open the door and walked out. Seeing him swaying as he followed, she supported him with a look of pure disdain. “Why can’t you just make things easy for once? Hmm?”
Yu Jiayan held his head and leaned against her, a hint of childlike attachment in his voice. “Sis, I feel terrible. My head is spinning.”
Yu Yazhi huffed, “Let it spin! It serves you right!”
Ning Xuan went ahead to press the elevator button. Once the three of them were inside, she hit the button for the basement level. After exiting the elevator, she jogged to find her car and swung the door open. “Get in, quick.”
She took the driver’s seat and called the hospital while driving to explain Yu Jiayan’s condition. By the time they arrived, they were ushered straight into the emergency room. The doctor unwrapped the gauze on Yu Jiayan’s head; it was indeed inflamed and oozing pus. It required debridement, fresh medication, and a total dressing change. Overall, the issue wasn’t life-threatening.
While waiting outside, Yu Yazhi continued to call Shang Li. It took three consecutive attempts before the call finally connected.
“Hello, President Yu. What’s the matter?”
“How is Qu Ran? What happened between you two? Where are you now?” After getting straight to the point, Yu Yazhi realized her tone was a bit blunt. She paused and added, “Is there anything you need my help with?”
Shang Li only said, “Send me the contact info for that psychologist you recommended before.”
Yu Yazhi caught the implication. “Qu Ran no, Zhong Qiu is back?”
“Yes,” Shang Li replied. “She’s back. The situation is not great.”
“Not great” was an understatement. Zhong Qiu wasn’t communicating with anyone at all. When she woke up in the hospital, her expression was calm; she didn’t scream or make a scene. She simply sat in the corner of the room, hugging her knees, completely immersed in her own world.
In her world, her sister Qu Ran was still there. Her nose was bleeding, and she was flinching away from Zhong Qiu’s touch. At the time, Zhong Qiu didn’t know why; she assumed it was just the trauma left behind by that man. It wasn’t until after her sister died that she discovered the truth from her belongings.
Her sister had been infected with the HIV virus. Just as she had earned a sentence reduction and left prison full of hope for a new life, the brutality of that night seven years ago dragged her back into hell. No one had realized that the man was an HIV carrier. The motive for that assault had been his desire to take revenge on society.
