After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Was Spoiled by a Sweet Omega - Chapter 86
Qu Ran and Shang Li turned a corner, moving out of Yu Jiayan’s line of sight, and instinctively let go of each other’s hands.
Shang Li stopped in her tracks, staring intensely at her. “Why?” she demanded.
Qu Ran countered with her own question, “Why what?”
“Why did you hold my hand?” Shang Li asked.
Qu Ran thought for a moment before answering, “It was Zhong Qiu who wanted to hold your hand.”
Shang Li remained skeptical. “What else does she want to do?”
Qu Ran only smiled, offering no further explanation as she leisurely continued walking. Shang Li kept pace beside her. They walked in silence for a dozen meters or so before Qu Ran suddenly stopped and looked at her.
“Why do you like Zhong Qiu?”
She was leading Shang Li toward a confession. She hoped that Shang Li’s memories of Zhong Qiu might stimulate the original personality to wake up. Personally, Qu Ran didn’t find Zhong Qiu likable at all, she was such a coward, too afraid even to love someone!
Unaware of Qu Ran’s ulterior motive, Shang Li was initially hesitant to share. But then it occurred to her that perhaps Zhong Qiu could hear her, so she began slowly: “The first time I met her was at Yu Yazhi’s villa.”
Back then, Shang Li’s martial arts gym was thriving. She was high-spirited and successful. Zhong Qiu, however, was at her lowest point. Her long hair masked her face; she was pale and indifferent, seemingly interested in nothing. It was that very air of apathetic world-weariness that had attracted Shang Li.
Moreover, she was so beautiful—her delicate features made her look like a porcelain doll that one couldn’t help but want to hold and protect. Some say Alphas are naturally arrogant, possessed by a “savior complex.” That description fit
Shang Li perfectly. It had been love at first sight. She pursued her several times and failed, but each failure only made her more determined.
The obsession peaked the moment Zhong Qiu had held a blade to Yu Yazhi’s throat. The strength and fragility, the longing and despair in her eyes at that moment, it was a contradictory beauty that defied words. Even now, thinking of it made Shang Li’s heart race.
She realized she had truly fallen in love at that moment—loving a woman who was a walking contradiction, someone who despaired of life yet fought desperately to survive. But Zhong Qiu didn’t like her; she had been repulsed by Shang Li’s every approach.
“She does like you,” Qu Ran said earnestly after listening to the reminiscence. “This heart is pounding wildly simply because you are here.”
Shang Li felt as if she were hearing a fairy tale and grew a bit irritated. “Are you playing with me?” If Zhong Qiu liked her, why was she so repulsed?
Repulsed. Wait. Zhong Qiu seemed to be repulsed only by her. Wasn’t that a form of special treatment in itself?
Joy and hope slowly colored Shang Li’s expression. Though it was dark out, her eyes shone with a sudden brilliance. “Does, does she really like me?”
Qu Ran nodded. “She does.” Her expression then turned heavy. “Go and investigate her past thoroughly. I’m also curious about what exactly she went through.”
At the same time, Yu Yazhi arrived at Ning Xuan’s hospital room. In her frantic state, she forgot to knock and pushed the door straight open.
Inside, Ning Xuan was curled up on the sofa reading a script. Startled by the noise, she looked up and immediately beamed with joy. “Yazhi! You’re here!”
Yu Yazhi walked in, set down her suitcase, and held out her hands. Ning Xuan stood up and lunged into her arms, hugging her tightly. “Yazhi.”
They embraced for a long time before Yu Yazhi pulled back. “Why aren’t you resting?” she asked pointedly. She had a mild concussion, yet she was still reading scripts!
Ning Xuan hurried to explain, “I’ve been lying down all afternoon. I was bored to death.”
Without a word, Yu Yazhi took the script and tucked it away into her own bag.
Ning Xuan scratched her head and laughed. “Yazhi, isn’t that a bit much?”
Yu Yazhi’s expression was stern. “It’s exactly enough. As long as you’re in this hospital, you’re not looking at a script.”
Knowing she was “soft-hearted despite her sharp tongue,” Ning Xuan didn’t argue. She planned to coax her later and changed the subject instead: “Have you eaten? Are you hungry?”
Yu Yazhi ignored the question. “What about you? Have you eaten?”
Ning Xuan shook her head. “Not yet. Yuanyuan just went out to get food. What do you want? I’ll have her buy extra.”
“Anything. Whatever you’re having,” Yu Yazhi replied, her interest in food non-existent.
Ning Xuan said “Alright” and called Luo Yuanyuan, asking her to buy a second portion of everything. Meanwhile, Yu Yazhi watched her in silence, her eyes roaming like searchlights to see if there were any hidden injuries. Ning Xuan let her look.
Once the call was over, Ning Xuan pressed her down onto the sofa. She went to the bathroom, wetted a towel, wrung it out, and came back to wipe Yu Yazhi’s face. “Look at you, covered in sweat.”
Yu Yazhi had been in a state of high anxiety the whole way there. Now that she could see with her own eyes that Ning Xuan was safe, she felt much calmer.
“Does your forehead still hurt?”
“It stopped ages ago. Really. Not at all.” Then, remembering Xin Lie’s sweet talk, Ning Xuan decided to mimic it. “Especially since you’re here, the pain is gone. You’re more effective than a painkiller.”
“Flattery will get you everywhere,” Yu Yazhi replied. She knew Ning Xuan was exaggerating, but she felt a rush of sweetness nonetheless. Her expression soon turned serious again. “How did the explosion even happen?”
“They think it was just the extreme heat,” Ning Xuan replied.
“That’s still the crew’s fault. They didn’t take proper safety precautions.”
“Mhm. Director He came by to apologize.”
“I can’t forgive them for putting you through this.”
“Hahaha, it’s really okay. Thanks to Sister Xin Lie.”
At the mention of Xin Lie, Yu Yazhi felt she should go and thank her savior properly. Ning Xuan quickly stopped her. “No, definitely don’t. She’s currently playing the ‘bitter injury’ card for all it’s worth. If we go over there and interrupt her and Sister Jin Min, she’ll definitely scold me.”
Yu Yazhi temporarily shelved the idea. “Then we’ll find another way to thank her. Any suggestions?”
“No need. Sister Xin doesn’t need anything.” She was a wealthy socialite and a superstar herself—she had fame, fortune, and money. What she lacked was love—specifically, Jin Min’s love. The best way to thank her was to stay away.
Yu Yazhi shook her head. “How can she not need anything? She saved you. I need to let her know just how important and precious the person she saved is.”
Ning Xuan: “…”
She felt a surge of warmth. Yu Yazhi was telling her she was important and precious.
“Hey, I get it,” she said, blushing, as she leaned in to kiss her lips.
In the heat of the moment, Yu Yazhi could only express her feelings with a passionate return kiss.
Knock, knock.
There was a knock on the door. It was Luo Yuanyuan back with dinner. Being the meticulous and steady person she was, she knew to knock; if it had been Zhao Luolu, she would have burst straight in.
Ning Xuan reluctantly pulled away from Yu Yazhi. “Come in.”
Luo Yuanyuan pushed the door open and was startled to see the CEO there. “President Yu.”
Yu Yazhi nodded. “Thank you for looking after her.”
Luo Yuanyuan quickly replied, “It’s what I should do.”
She placed the dinner on the coffee table, opening the containers one by one as she murmured to herself, “I thought Sister Xuan wanted a double portion because she was starving. Turns out it’s because President Yu arrived.”
Dinner was served—a selection of light, home-cooked dishes.
Ning Xuan pulled Yu Yazhi over and handed her a pair of disposable chopsticks with a smile. “Give it a try. I specifically asked Yuanyuan to get this from the Dali Martial Arts Hall’s cafeteria.”
Yu Yazhi nodded, snapped the chopsticks apart, and took a bite of some summer squash. The flavor was excellent. She couldn’t help but ask, “Are you sure you don’t want to headhunt the chef from the Dali cafeteria?”
Hearing this recurring joke again, Ning Xuan shook her head with a laugh. “There’s really no need. It’s like seeing a beautiful flower by the roadside, you can just appreciate it. Why be selfish and pluck it away? Good things should be shared.”
“But I am selfish,” Yu Yazhi countered nonchalantly. “I want to be selfish and give you only the best.”
Ning Xuan: “…”
The sweet talk really comes out of nowhere.
Feeling she had to return the sentiment, she immediately replied, “You are the best. And you’ve already given yourself to me.”
Yu Yazhi: “…”
Fine. That reason completely effectively killed her desire to poach the chef.
Little did they know, the cafeteria chef was likely dying to be headhunted. Poor man—his path to riches was cut short by Ning Xuan’s “universal love.” Had he known, he might have considered adding arsenic to her next meal!
Ning Xuan enjoyed her food immensely. After dinner, Yu Yazhi stayed by her side to chat. They talked for two hours, covering everything from the saffron base to Zhong Qiu. Having been apart for a few days, they truly had an endless supply of things to say. Eventually, Ning Xuan grew drowsy, so they washed up and climbed into bed. Between the exhaustion and the hospital setting, neither had any “naughty” intentions.
The next day, the weather was gloomy and sweltering, looking as though it might rain. Ning Xuan woke up early. Opening her eyes, she saw Yu Yazhi’s tranquil sleeping face. Stripped of her usual cold pride, her features were soft and gentle—a true sleeping beauty.
Of course, under that tender gaze, the beauty soon stirred. “Why are you up so early? Do you feel unwell somewhere?” As she asked, she reached out to touch the gauze on Ning Xuan’s forehead, her eyes full of concern. “Does it still hurt?”
Ning Xuan shook her head with a smile. “No, it stopped hurting long ago. You asked me that last night, too.”
“I can’t ask again just because I asked once?”
“You can. I just think everything is fine, and you’re being overly anxious.”
She was acting as if Ning Xuan had some terminal illness. In fact, the doctor had said the previous night that after one night of observation, she could be discharged today. But Yu Yazhi had refused, insisting on two more days of observation.
“It’s you who’s being too careless,” Yu Yazhi said, getting out of bed and heading toward the bathroom. “Is an injury to the head ever a small matter?”
Ning Xuan couldn’t win the argument, so she stayed quiet. Yu Yazhi took a shower while she was at it. When she came out, Ning Xuan pounced on her for a morning kiss. While Yu Yazhi had been showering, Ning Xuan had already brushed her teeth and washed her face in the outer room.
Yu Yazhi leaned into the kiss. When they pulled apart, she said with a smile, “You changed toothpaste. Today’s is orange-flavored.”
Ning Xuan asked, “You don’t like it?”
Yu Yazhi wrapped her arms around her neck and kissed her back, using action to prove exactly how much she liked it.
The two spent a sweet, affectionate morning together. In the afternoon, knowing that Jin Min was out filming, Ning Xuan dragged Yu Yazhi along to sneak into Xin Lie’s ward.
Xin Lie was bored out of her mind without Jin Min around. She welcomed Ning Xuan’s entrance, but the moment she saw Yu Yazhi behind her, she made a preemptive strike: “Let’s get one thing straight, no public displays of affection in front of me!”
Ning Xuan was amused. “Sister Xin Lie, are you still not ‘off the market’ yet?” She had assumed that after everything that happened yesterday, Jin Min had given her tacit consent.
Mentioning this gave Xin Lie a headache. Fans online were already shipping her and Ning Xuan like crazy, yet Jin Min had remained completely unfazed by it. She wanted so badly to announce to the world that she and Jin Min were a couple, but Jin Min simply wouldn’t agree. She’d even let Xin Lie bite her gland, yet she still wouldn’t say yes. It was sheer torture.
“Ning Xuan, if we don’t mention that, we can still be friends.”
“Alright, fine.” Ning Xuan changed the subject, asking how she was feeling.
Xin Lie pulled up the sleeve of her hospital gown, clenched her fist to show off her muscle, and said, “I could run a marathon right now, no problem.”
Ning Xuan gave her a thumbs-up. “Impressive.”
Xin Lie sighed regretfully. “A shame I have all this strength and nowhere to use it!”
Ning Xuan: “…”
Wait, is she making an innuendo?
She gave a strained laugh and shifted the topic. “How come I haven’t seen your family come by?”
“I didn’t let them,” Xin Lie replied.
“And they actually listened?”
“I told them that if they showed up, their daughter-in-law would be gone.”
Well, that’s one hell of a reason! Ning Xuan truly admired her.
Seeing that she looked skeptical, Xin Lie added seriously, “I mean it. They’re all marriage-obsessed maniacs. If they really showed up, Jin Min would be so spooked she’d run away overnight.”
Ning Xuan nodded understandingly. “Fair enough. Parents are like that.”
Xin Lie didn’t dwell on it. She turned to the silent Yu Yazhi and asked, “President Yu, why so quiet?”
“I was thinking of how to thank you,” Yu Yazhi said.
Xin Lie waved it off. “No need. I would have saved anyone in that situation.” She truly didn’t take the act of saving Ning Xuan to heart, despite the burns on her back and the gash on her shoulder still throbbing.
Yu Yazhi was stubborn. “I will find a way to thank you.” She continued, recalling a conversation she’d had with Auntie Wu a few days ago.
Auntie Wu was on good terms with an old servant of the Jin family. Because that servant had once been kind to Jin Min, she was now treated very well by her in return. Through that connection, she had learned a small secret about Jin Min.
“If you like Jin Min and want to marry her,” Yu Yazhi said, “you could start with her child.”
Child?
Ning Xuan was stunned. “What did you say? A child?”
Xin Lie was equally shocked, her face paling. “Jin Min has a child?”
