After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Was Spoiled by a Sweet Omega - Chapter 72
Xia Lei handed Yu Yazhi the evidence of the mastermind behind the scheme.
It was proof of her purchase of a pinhole camera, along with surveillance footage of her meetings with that couple.
The meeting took place at a milk tea shop near Shenzhen University.
They talked for over an hour.
Xia Lei said: “I wanted to stand out among reporters, and that couple wanted fame too. So, we plotted this act together.”
Yu Yazhi looked at the so called evidence and sneered: “This is the truth?”
She didn’t believe a word of it. “Why give me this? Everything went smoothly for you, why admit it now?”
Xia Lei replied: “I suddenly realized I was wrong. And that couple, their conscience tormented them.”
Yu Yazhi scoffed even more: “I know who you’re protecting.”
Would Sun Meiqing admit defeat at this point? Impossible.
The current situation favored her.
So clearly, outside forces had intervened.
Who could it be?
A name flashed through Yu Yazhi’s mind. She quickly shook her head, forcing it away. “And if I keep investigating?”
Xia Lei answered confidently: “A family scandal. I think Chairman Yu won’t sit idly by.”
Yu Yazhi mocked: “So he’s intervening now? To protect Sun Meiqing?”
Xia Lei acted as if she hadn’t heard, continuing: “The police will soon release this evidence. I’ll livestream my confession, and that couple will join too. President Yu, you’re a smart woman, you should consider the bigger picture.”
Yu Yazhi’s response was blunt: “Get out!”
Xia Lei froze, then stood, bowed slightly in apology, and left.
The office fell silent.
Yu Yazhi leaned against the sofa, dazed for a long time.
Her father knew Sun Meiqing was behind it all, yet still forgave and shielded her?
Ridiculous.
What was she still hoping for?
Time passed. Meng Xi knocked and entered, face alight with excitement. She held out her phone: “President Yu, the police have announced the results. Reporter Xia Lei admitted she staged everything with that couple for fame. She’s publicly apologized.”
Yu Yazhi didn’t bother to look. She waved Meng Xi away.
Then she sat at her computer and typed out a resignation letter.
From today, she was done.
Meanwhile, Chairman Yu sat in the chairman’s office, watching the news. Everything unfolded exactly as he had planned: Xia Lei confessed, withdrew from journalism, and faced legal punishment.
The couple cried as they admitted fault, claiming youthful ignorance and a misguided chase for fame.
Public opinion was turning positive.
SY International Hotel’s stock price rebounded.
Chairman Yu smiled with satisfaction.
A knock at the door.
“Come in.”
Yu Yazhi entered.
Seeing her, Chairman Yu snorted: “The news is settled. Why are you here?”
Without a word, Yu Yazhi handed him her resignation.
He froze, shocked: “What do you mean by this?”
Expressionless, Yu Yazhi said: “You know exactly what it means.”
She placed the letter on the table and turned to leave.
“Stop!”
Her father barked: “Yu Yazhi, are you defying me?”
He knew the investigation results wouldn’t fool her. He knew her stubborn nature. But he hadn’t expected her to resign.
Of course, he didn’t believe she’d truly give up her inheritance. This was a show of defiance.
Realizing she had been wronged, he softened his tone: “I’m not completely siding with your Aunt Sun. She did wrong, and I scolded her. But pity the heart of a parent, she acted for Jiayan. It’s understandable.”
Yu Yazhi felt only disappointment and pain, though her face betrayed nothing. “Are you finished? May I leave?”
Her coldness was that of a stranger.
Chairman Yu felt a chill. He knew she couldn’t let go of this grievance.
Anger rose. “What do you want me to do? Divorce your Aunt Sun?”
Yu Yazhi replied calmly: “It seems you’re finished.”
She bowed slightly, her final gesture of respect, then walked out.
“Stop!”
Her father shouted after her, but she didn’t pause.
This time, she meant it.
Panic stirred in him. He wanted to chase her, to soften his words. But as a father, how could he swallow his pride?
He snatched up her resignation letter and hurled it to the floor. “Everyone’s rebelling!”
Half a lifetime lived, and it had come to this. Wasn’t that failure too?
He sighed, shoulders hunched, suddenly aged.
Yu Yazhi walked out of headquarters.
Free at last.
She hadn’t expected giving up her inheritance to feel so liberating.
All her life, she had been bound by it.
Now, casting it aside, the skies were clear, her heart full of love, everything seemed impossibly beautiful.
“Raise a glass and sing,
Overwhelmed by wine,
False smiles all around,
Why underestimate the foe.”
She got into her car, turned on the stereo, and drove back to the villa.
Inside, Aunt Wu was on the phone with Chairman Yu. Seeing Yu Yazhi return, she said: “Miss, the master called. He said he phoned you several times, why didn’t you answer?”
Yu Yazhi had been listening to music the whole way, oblivious to the calls.
She glanced at her phone. Two missed calls from her father. But, so what?
She hadn’t intended to answer anyway.
“Tell him I’m not home yet.”
She hadn’t slept all night. All she wanted now was rest.
Ning Xuan had warned her: staying up ruins your looks.
Aunt Wu, unaware of the situation, said: “The call isn’t hung up yet. The master heard you.”
Yu Yazhi remained indifferent: “Then tell him I don’t want to answer.”
Aunt Wu dared not repeat that, so she said instead: “Master, Miss is unavailable to take your call right now.”
Chairman Yu, knowing she was sulking, replied: “Give her three days off. Let her rest, then return to work. She’s an adult now, no more childish tantrums.”
Yu Yazhi took a glass of lemon water from the fridge and drank it beside Aunt Wu, overhearing her father’s words. She exploded instantly: “I wouldn’t even know I had a childish temper if you hadn’t said it!”
If only it were possible, who wouldn’t want to be a child in front of their parents?
Only children are unconditionally cherished.
Only with unconditional love does one earn the right to be a child.
Yu Jiayan’s immaturity was nothing more than the result of being spoiled without limits.
Yu Yazhi’s heart ached again.
She claimed not to care, but deep down, the pain lingered.
Snatching the phone, she hung up abruptly.
Aunt Wu froze, bewildered: “Miss, you?”
Yu Yazhi’s voice was icy: “I’m fine. From now on, don’t answer his calls.”
With that, she went upstairs.
Aunt Wu stared after her, worried. What had happened? Miss had always respected and loved the master, how could she hang up on him?
At the same time, Chairman Yu, cut off mid call, nearly smashed his phone in fury: “Rebellion! Absolute rebellion!”
His anger hadn’t cooled when Sun Meiqing called.
“Look at the mess you’ve caused!”
“Sun Meiqing, we’ve been married for years. Haven’t I treated you well enough? How could you be so foolish, to do something like this?”
He blamed his estrangement from his daughter on her.
Once, he had refused to remarry for his daughter’s sake, a devoted father.
But everything had changed.
After remarrying, his gentle, beautiful wife and mischievous son consumed his heart.
He gradually forgot the little girl who once gazed at him with eyes full of adoration.
Sun Meiqing, long accustomed to indulgence, burst into tears at his scolding: “I did it for Jiayan! If you’d handed the company to him earlier, would any of this have happened? Every family passes the business to the son. If your daughter, an omega, inherits instead, what will people say of me? That my child is inferior to your ex wife’s? I was a good girl who married you, and you promised to treat me well forever.”
She invoked old affection, hoping to soften him.
Chairman Yu sighed and hung up.
In the end, it all came down to inheritance.
But his son lacked the character. Even if granted the right, could he truly hold it?
At the hospital, Yu Jiayan, bored and restless, summoned his gang of rowdy friends.
With their help, he escaped.
“Driver, hurry! Go!”
Dragging his plastered leg, he flagged down a taxi and scrambled inside.
The driver saw men chasing behind and thought Jiayan was a criminal, hesitating to drive.
Jiayan pulled out a stolen fruit knife, pressing it to the driver’s neck like a desperado: “Drive! Or I’ll spill your blood!”
Terrified, the driver slammed the accelerator.
When Yu Yazhi heard her brother had fled the hospital, she felt no shock. She’d grown numb to his antics.
She lay in bed, tablet in hand, leisurely browsing scenic spots and food streets around Hengzhuang, planning to take Ning Xuan there someday.
A knock at the door.
Assuming it was Aunt Wu, she didn’t look up: “Come in.”
But it was Meng Xi.
Having heard of Yu Yazhi’s resignation, Meng Xi was even less able to accept it than Hengzhuang: “President Yu.”
Yu Yazhi remembered she hadn’t yet handed over her duties. “You came at the right time. I was just about to arrange the handover with you.”
Meng Xi shook her head: “If you leave, I leave too.”
Yu Yazhi: “…”
She hadn’t intended to take the team with her.
Meng Xi was firm: “You promoted me yourself. My loyalty is to you alone.”
Yu Yazhi was touched but kept her reason. Her face hardened: “Think carefully. Don’t gamble with your future.”
Knowing Meng Xi’s workaholic nature, she assumed ambition drove her. She didn’t want to ruin her prospects.
“After I resign, headquarters may appoint you as general manager.”
Her tone grew serious: “I think you’re well suited. Honestly, I’d feel reassured if SY were in your hands. I’ve poured two years of sweat into this hotel,I don’t want it to decline because of me.”
Meng Xi was capable, driven, the perfect successor.
But Meng Xi shook her head again: “I’ve already decided. Wherever you go, I’ll follow.”
As long as she could see Yu Yazhi, she would be content.
Yu Yazhi, unaware of her true feelings, fell silent. For SY’s sake, she refused gently: “Meng Xi, whether as your boss or your friend, I believe SY is your world.”
Meng Xi wanted to cry out: But you are my future!
Yet she feared saying it would cost her even the chance to see her.
Silence.
Long, heavy silence.
At last, she couldn’t hold back: “Is it because of Ning Xuan?”
Once, Yu Yazhi’s eyes held only SY, only inheritance. Now, they held only Ning Xuan.
Ning Xuan had changed her worldview.
Yu Yazhi’s lips curved in an irrepressible smile: “Perhaps. Ning Xuan means life has more possibilities for me.”
Just thinking of her filled Yazhi with strength, joy, and happiness.
Meng Xi saw that smile and jealousy surged. How dare she! Ning Xuan, just a pretty vase!
Her heart screamed in protest, though her face stayed calm: “President Yu, you told me to reconsider. Shouldn’t you reconsider too?”
She stepped closer, sat by the bed, and clasped Yazhi’s hand, urging earnestly: “Right now, Young Master Yu is chasing love recklessly, disappointing the chairman, even drawing his wife’s disdain. President Yu, this is your chance to shine! You’re only one step away from the inheritance. To give it up, it’s such a waste!”
