After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Met the Reborn Omega - Chapter 43
“I need you to do me a favor.”
Chen Lin ran her fingers through her short hair. Every time she thought of Su Jing, the leg she had long since recovered from would start to ache again.
“What kind of favor?”
“Someone sentenced to only seven years wouldn’t normally be kept in that prison. Did something happen to her while she was there?”
Chen Lin shook her head. Her connection to Su Jing ended after that one incident; she hadn’t seen or kept track of her since. Chen Lin glanced down at the file in her hands and said, “It doesn’t mention anything. But since her sentence wasn’t extended, she probably didn’t cause any trouble.”
“I need you to visit her. Ask her for me: Do you still remember Lin Changsheng?”
After finally seeing Lin Changsheng off, Chen Lin collapsed weakly onto the couch, wondering which old friend she could call to help her get access to that prison.
In the end, she could only sigh and mutter, “Life is really tough.”
Lin Changsheng walked down the stairs and looked up at the sky. It was still dark and heavy with clouds, but at least the rain had stopped.
She silently made her way to her flashy red sports car and climbed in. However, she didn’t start the engine right away. She took a deep breath and looked into the rearview mirror, meeting her own eyes.
Her gaze was calm, with a touch of coldness.
The screen of her phone lit up, becoming the only source of light in the darkness.
“When are you coming home?”
The message from Mo Zhaoyan arrived right on time. Lin Changsheng only glanced at it, and the coldness in her eyes faded little by little. The tension in her body also eased.
“I’m on my way back.”
After replying, she set her phone aside and closed her eyes to rest.
“I want to talk to you, Xingyun.”
At the sound of the voice, Lin Changsheng opened her eyes. Xingyun had appeared in the passenger seat. Although it looked like she was physically there, Lin Changsheng knew it was only Xingyun’s consciousness taking form.
“What do you want to talk about?”
Lin Changsheng’s voice was unnervingly calm. Xingyun had expected anger or panic. This cold steadiness made her feel disappointed—it wasn’t supposed to be like this. How could Lin Changsheng stay so composed?
“In the future… we killed a billion people. That’s what I want to talk about.”
Xingyun had been acting casual, almost lazy, but after hearing those words, her expression shifted to shock. She looked exactly like Lin Changsheng, and seeing that shock mirrored back at her, Lin Changsheng gave a small, helpless smile.
“Surprised?”
Xingyun instinctively touched her lips. “How do you know about the future? Did you get your memories back?”
“I remembered a few things. Thanks to Su Jing’s photo, a lot of memories came rushing back.”
“Su Jing?” Xingyun tried hard to remember the name. When she finally realized who it was, her expression changed, and she turned her head away in a panic. Lin Changsheng caught the small, telling movement.
“You remember her.”
“You’re afraid of her,” Lin Changsheng said, her voice steady and certain. Though Xingyun tried to act indifferent, Lin Changsheng had seen it clearly: ever since Su Jing’s name was mentioned, a nervous unease had been growing inside her.
“Afraid of her? Why would I be afraid of her? You’re the coward, not me!”
Xingyun snapped, her voice sharp with anger, but Lin Changsheng’s face remained emotionless.
“Of course I’m afraid. We were both deeply affected by her.”
“I’m not like you!”
Xingyun didn’t avoid Lin Changsheng’s gaze, but in her heart, she knew—this version of Lin Changsheng was different. She was cold, determined, and unshakable, like someone who had died once and come back stronger.
Only now did Xingyun understand what it meant: “born anew after death.”
“You carried out the plan—you killed a billion people. Such a shocking crime only proves how corrupt inferior genes can be.”
Hearing Lin Changsheng mention her “achievement,” Xingyun couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride. She even nodded slightly, like a child waiting for a parent to praise her.
But the “parent” she looked up to didn’t reward her.
“Su Jing once said: we’re all evil. Sooner or later, we would become like her,” Lin Changsheng said, letting out a bitter laugh. Xingyun frowned, still not understanding the meaning behind her words.
“She succeeded. You became exactly what she intended. You, me—we—are her perfect successors. Her masterpieces.”
Xingyun couldn’t listen any longer. She slammed her fist hard against the seat, cutting Lin Changsheng off.
“You’re lying! I have my own will! How could I be influenced by her?!”
“You once said to me: ‘We are all evil.’ Those were Su Jing’s words too.”
Xingyun’s voice trembled as she whispered, broken and desperate:
“No… it’s not possible…”
After that, Xingyun’s consciousness disappeared before Lin Changsheng’s eyes. No matter how desperately Lin Changsheng called out to her in her mind, Xingyun refused to respond.
In the end, Lin Changsheng had no choice but to sigh, start the engine, and drive home.
On the way back, her mind kept circling around Su Jing.
Lin Changsheng didn’t know this woman—there had been no connection between them. Before the kidnapping, Lin Changsheng hadn’t even known Su Jing existed.
At that time, Lin Changsheng’s parents had just died in a tragic accident. She was stuck in deep grief, and on top of that, the cruel insults from the internet made her start doubting herself.
Was she truly at fault? Was she really that terrible?
Then, she had been kidnapped by Su Jing.
During her captivity, Su Jing tortured her every day. Aside from the constant pain, Lin Changsheng remembered very little from that period. It was mostly a blank void—except for Su Jing’s voice, which still echoed endlessly in her mind:
“Lin Changsheng, we’re the same kind of people. Those others don’t understand you. They bully you. We can fight back. We are evil.”
What had Lin Changsheng said back then?
Maybe she was still weak. Maybe she was still crying.
“I’m not evil. I’m not like you,” she had said.
Back then, there was still light in Lin Changsheng’s heart. But Su Jing had only smiled coldly and said:
“You will become my most perfect masterpiece.”
When Lin Changsheng pulled into the driveway, she parked the car and stepped out.
She whispered to herself, “The most perfect masterpiece? Isn’t that right… Took away so many lives… Turned me into a serial killer just like you… And now you’re hiding safely away in prison. Su Jing, you must be sleeping very soundly.”
Talking to herself, Lin Changsheng walked up to the front door.
Inside was her warm, sunlit home.
She took a deep breath, forcing a bright, childlike smile onto her face, and pushed the door open.
“I’m home!” she called out.
Mo Zhaoyan was sitting on the sofa. She seemed to have dozed off, but Lin Changsheng’s voice stirred her awake.
She had been waiting downstairs the whole time. A tablet rested on her lap, which slipped to the floor as she hastily stood up to greet Lin Changsheng.
But Mo Zhaoyan didn’t even glance at the fallen tablet.
Instead, she rushed over and looked Lin Changsheng up and down, carefully checking that she was unharmed before finally relaxing.
“Why are you still awake?” Lin Changsheng asked gently.
“I was waiting for you,” Mo Zhaoyan answered.
Lin Changsheng tried her best to maintain her usual calm, relaxed appearance in front of Mo Zhaoyan.
“You should get some sleep.”
“Okay.”
Mo Zhaoyan might seem like a quiet, reserved person, someone who kept most of her feelings hidden inside.
But that didn’t change the fact that Lin Changsheng loved her deeply.
Mo Zhaoyan bent down to pick up the fallen tablet by the sofa.
Lin Changsheng’s gaze never left her for even a second.
Noticing the intensity of Lin Changsheng’s stare, Mo Zhaoyan glanced back at her.
When she saw Lin Changsheng’s familiar shy and flustered expression, she suppressed her growing suspicions.
As soon as Mo Zhaoyan turned away, Lin Changsheng dropped the shy act.
Her eyes grew gentle and soft as she gazed at Mo Zhaoyan, wishing she could watch her forever.
Mo Zhaoyan loves me.
The thought warmed Lin Changsheng’s heart and gave her strength.
If, in their past life, insecurity had driven them apart, in this life, Lin Changsheng was absolutely sure of Mo Zhaoyan’s feelings for her.
After all, this was someone who had gone back in time just to save her.
There was nothing left to fear anymore.
Whether it was Su Jing, Xingyun, or anyone else—anyone who tried to take Mo Zhaoyan away from her, Lin Changsheng would never forgive them.
Life between Lin Changsheng and Mo Zhaoyan returned to its usual rhythm.
Lin Changsheng delivered a new type of medication to Wen Li’er, quickly stabilizing her condition.
Thanks to Mo Zhaoran’s constant companionship, Wen Li’er had even begun showing early signs of differentiating into an Omega.
“As long as you keep taking this medicine, your differentiation should complete soon.
But you must keep it secret. Until the drug officially passes approval and goes to market, you can’t tell anyone.”
“Don’t worry, Chief! I’ll keep it a secret!” Wen Li’er promised earnestly.
Today, Mo Zhaoran was also keeping Wen Li’er company. “Thank you, brother-in-law!” she added brightly.
Lin Changsheng gave a small nod and glanced at her watch. “I have a meeting soon, so I’ll head off first.”
Mo Zhaoran, intending to hold onto Wen Li’er for a bit longer, tried to stop her. But Wen Li’er gently pushed her away.
“Don’t mess around,” Wen Li’er said, her gaze following Lin Changsheng’s departing figure. “Don’t you think the Chief has changed a little?”
For Mo Zhaoran, her world had once only revolved around her older sister.
Now that Wen Li’er occupied her attention, she didn’t notice small details about Lin Changsheng.
“Changed? Maybe it’s just because she’s been getting along well with my sister lately.”
“Feels like… she’s become more mature,” Wen Li’er said thoughtfully.
Before long, an official announcement from Gu Ximeng arrived:
the latest season of Let’s Start Dating was finally set to begin filming.
This time, the filming location was an ancient city.
Each participant would play a character in costume.
Everyone would draw a “role card,” pairing up with another person—but they had to rely on clues to figure out who their CP (couple partner) was.
Throughout the ancient city, various story-driven events would take place.
They had three days and two nights, and if a pair could complete all their assigned CP tasks together, they would succeed.
Lin Changsheng looked at her advance identity card:
“Young General – the youngest daughter of a noble family.
Mother died during childbirth.
Known in the capital for her reckless behavior.
Frequent visitor of the pleasure districts.
Useless both academically and in martial arts.”
Lin Changsheng couldn’t help but feel that her “brother-in-law” (the show producer) was setting her up.
Knowing how messy her gossip headlines were, they had deliberately assigned her this kind of ‘spoiled troublemaker’ role.
She discreetly peeked at Mo Zhaoyan’s role card:
“Daughter of the Prime Minister –
a master of music, chess, calligraphy, painting, poetry, and song…”
Mo Zhaoyan quickly tucked her card away, and Lin Changsheng didn’t manage to catch the rest.
Still, her heart sank halfway.
Brother-in-law, this is unfair!
Why did Mo Zhaoyan get such an amazing, elegant role, while she got stuck playing a useless troublemaker?
As everyone prepared for the show, it was announced that, because there were only five participants and not enough to form three full pairs, the production team had secretly added a mystery “civilian” contestant.
Their identity was being kept under wraps for now.
Meanwhile, on the other side—
Chen Lin finally managed to meet Su Jing.
Even though it was just a prison visit, Su Jing’s hands and feet were still shackled, with a heavy collar around her neck to track her location.
This was not the treatment a typical seven-year inmate should receive.
“What’s this?”
“Officer Chen, it’s been a long time,” Su Jing said casually.
She looked stronger than Chen Lin remembered, though her skin remained deathly pale—probably because of her unusual blood condition.
“I’m here today to deliver a message,” Chen Lin said straightforwardly.
“Do you still remember Lin Changsheng?”
A trace of joy flashed across Su Jing’s face.
Without waiting, she turned to the guards and said she wanted to end the visit.
Standing up, she smiled at Chen Lin, leaving her confused.
“Tell her to come in person,” Su Jing said lightly.
“Or… I’ll go find her myself.”
