After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Became a Slave to My Beloved Wife - Chapter 42
“President Jiang, I think we need to revise this proposal—here, and here. Just take a look at these two budget sections…”
“…President Jiang?”
“President Jiang!”
Jiang Nian’s thoughts were yanked back to the present. Her long lashes fluttered slightly. “What?”
“President Jiang, were you even listening to the proposal?” Lu Renbing asked, frowning slightly. “I was just saying something about the budget…”
He had been talking for quite a while before noticing that Jiang Nian’s mind had clearly drifted far away—so far, it probably wasn’t even in the same building anymore.
“If you have something more important on your mind, please let me know,” he offered gently. “I’ll help you resolve it as soon as possible.”
“She…” Jiang Nian mumbled.
“Hmm? What did you say?” Lu Renbing leaned in, cupping a hand to his ear.
Jiang Nian’s face dropped into a grim scowl. Her expression could rival a tragic heroine as she stared gloomily out the window.
“Wenyu’s been with the drama crew for half a month already,” she said, voice full of sorrow. “The shoot’s in another province. I can’t even visit the set.”
“Ah…” Lu Renbing now understood the source of his boss’s melancholy. But what could he do?
“I feel so lonely,” Jiang Nian groaned, flopping dramatically onto her desk.
Lu Renbing nearly choked. Looking at his heartbroken boss and hearing the word “lonely” delivered with such misery, he immediately put two and two together. His expression turned knowing.
“President Jiang… shall I make a reservation for drinks tonight?” he asked carefully.
Drinking?
Jiang Nian didn’t hold her liquor particularly well, but sometimes, in moments like these, a few drinks weren’t a bad idea. Drown the sorrow with alcohol.
“Alright, book me a private booth,” she said with a sigh, before burying herself back in her work.
That evening, Jiang Nian changed into a sharp business outfit and slipped on a pair of silver-rimmed glasses. She entered an upscale bar and private lounge with her usual cool demeanor.
The server greeted her and began lining up a variety of drinks on the table—neatly arranged in a row.
“President Jiang, your requested items are on the way. Please enjoy your drinks in the meantime,” the beta server said with a polite smile as he poured her a glass.
Jiang Nian took the drink and downed it in one go. It had a sweet taste and wasn’t too strong. Lifting the empty glass, she said, “Another.”
The server respectfully refilled it for her.
With the drinks going down smoothly and no burn in her throat, Jiang Nian kept going—one glass after another. Her reactions were starting to slow.
And just then, five omegas stepped into the private booth.
Each one was petite, pretty, and sweet-scented. Their pheromones filled the room like an alluring perfume shop, one sweeter than the next.
Jiang Nian froze, still gripping her glass.
“What… is all this…?” she slurred.
“Good evening, President Jiang,” the omegas said cheerfully as they gathered around her, pouring more drinks, offering snacks and fruit.
Jiang Nian was already lightheaded and weak from the alcohol. Slurred speech and dulled reflexes made it nearly impossible to fend them off.
“President Jiang, have a drink~” purred the closest omega, who wrapped an arm around Jiang Nian’s neck and tried to feed her.
Absolutely not! AO interactions like this were not appropriate!
“No…” Jiang Nian turned her head away.
Another omega on her other side leaned in, slipping an arm around her shoulders. “President Jiang, have a grape. It’s really sweet—I peeled it just for you.”
“I don’t… need it…” Jiang Nian said weakly, pushing them off with no real strength.
Then, mercifully, the server returned with more drinks. Jiang Nian looked at him like he was a lifeline.
She tried to straighten her posture and force her tongue to cooperate. “Who sent… them?” she asked. “I didn’t order this. I don’t want it.”
“Wait a second.”
Jiang Nian propped up her phone on the coffee table, then positioned the washboard and the durian right where the camera could see.
Qiao Wenyu asked curiously, “What are you doing?”
“Sister, I… no, wait—”
Jiang Nian placed the durian on the washboard, then immediately knelt on top of the spiky fruit, her cheeks flushed red. Her phoenix-shaped eyes were tinged with a pink hue as she looked into the camera.
“Wife, I’m sorry. I was wrong.”
“Huh? What did you even do?” Qiao Wenyu was completely thrown off by the sudden kneeling.
Jiang Nian lowered her head so far it nearly touched her thighs. “Last night I went out drinking, and then… then my secretary misunderstood and called in a bunch of omegas to keep me company. I swear! I swear I didn’t touch any of them. I sent them all away! I only love you, wife!”
“Oh? So I’m ‘wife’ now, huh? Should I believe you?” Qiao Wenyu teased. “Or maybe I should go ask those omegas exactly what happened last night?”
Jiang Nian held up three fingers in a solemn vow. “I really didn’t—wait… what? You know those omegas?”
Qiao Wenyu sighed, realizing she couldn’t keep the truth hidden anymore. “Actually… I arranged for them to be there.”
This time, it was Jiang Nian who was stunned speechless.
“I arranged it after we got our marriage certificate… I thought that once things were official, you might start taking me for granted,” Qiao Wenyu confessed softly. “So now…”
“Now?” Jiang Nian asked, dazed.
“Now I just wanted to see if you’d behave.”
Qiao Wenyu averted her eyes, slightly embarrassed.
“I only went drinking because I missed you so much,” Jiang Nian explained. “I only like you. Please don’t worry about me, Sister.”
Qiao Wenyu glanced at her shooting schedule on the desk. “I won’t be able to come back anytime soon. I have a lot of scenes to shoot—tomorrow and the next day are both action sequences. I’ll be training constantly.”
“I understand. I’ll wait for you,” Jiang Nian whispered, voice soft and affectionate. “Come home soon, okay?”
“When you were explaining yourself earlier, you didn’t call me ‘Sister,’” Qiao Wenyu teased with folded arms. “Now it’s ‘Sister’ again?”
Jiang Nian’s face flushed bright red. In her panic earlier, she’d blurted out “wife” without thinking. Now being asked to say it again? That was… too much.
“Alright, I won’t tease you anymore,” Qiao Wenyu smiled. “I have to go get my makeup and costume ready. Talk later.”
Just before the call ended, Jiang Nian hurried to say:
“Wife, I really miss you. Come home soon.”
Qiao Wenyu paused briefly, then smiled and ended the call.
After the video call, Jiang Nian went to work with a visible glow on her face. Her whole mood had improved, and she walked into the office with much more energy than the day before.
Lu Renbing noticed and opened the door for her, asking playfully,
“President Jiang, how was the durian this morning?”
“Excellent,” Jiang Nian beamed.
“So… I should order from the same supplier next time?” he asked, half-joking.
“No! I never want there to be a next time,” Jiang Nian declared firmly. She raised her hand in protest, then frowned and pointed at him.
“By the way, last night at the bar—those omegas who showed up… that was your doing, wasn’t it?”
“Yes, President Jiang. You said you were feeling lonely, so I made the same arrangements as before…” Lu Renbing clearly hadn’t realized he’d made a mistake.
Jiang Nian jabbed her finger at him again. “You really… Listen. No more calling in those flirty little birds ever again. That durian was painful. You think I’m kidding?”
“Huh?”
“Anyway, now that I have Wenyu, I don’t want anyone else around me. It’s bad for our relationship,” she said seriously.
Lu Renbing nodded, understanding. “In that case, President Jiang… would you like to make your relationship public?”
“Go public?” Jiang Nian asked, surprised.
“Yes. After the video of you confronting that lyricist went viral, people have been speculating you’re dating Miss Qiao. You even have CP fans online. I’ve had the media team try to suppress it, but if you’re open to it, I can help prepare a formal announcement.”
“I do want that,” Jiang Nian said, resting her chin in her hand thoughtfully.
“Then maybe ask Miss Qiao what she thinks first?” Lu suggested.
Jiang Nian’s eyes lit up. “Good idea. Hold on—I’ll call her now.”
She picked up her phone and immediately dialed Qiao Wenyu’s number.
But all she heard was the repeated beep… beep… of an unanswered call.
She must be filming… Jiang Nian sighed.
“You can go now,” she said to Lu Renbing with a wave. “I’ll call her again later. I’ll let you know if there’s any update.”
That afternoon, after finishing her meetings, Jiang Nian tried calling again.
This time, the phone rang for a few moments before someone picked up.
“Hello? Sister—” Jiang Nian started, but was immediately interrupted by a frantic voice on the other end.
“Is this President Jiang? I’m Qiao Wenyu’s manager. I’m calling from the hospital—Wenyu, she…”
