After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Became a Slave to My Beloved Wife - Chapter 37
Was it just a coincidence?
Jiang Nian’s mind went completely blank. For a moment, she seriously wondered if she’d misheard something. She just stood there, frozen in place.
“You really want to keep watching me suffer?” Qiao Wenyu propped herself up with one hand. Her long, silky hair tumbled over her shoulders like a waterfall, and the pale skin at her collarbone peeked out from beneath the edge of her nightgown.
Jiang Nian swallowed hard and instinctively stepped back a few paces, gripping the doorframe.
“Sister, you’re not thinking clearly. You must be overwhelmed by everything. I’ll go find a therapist for you.”
“I like you. Not because of this heat,” Qiao Wenyu said softly. Her face was unnaturally flushed, but her eyes were firm and sincere. “You’ve done so much for me—stood up for me in front of everyone, fought against my father, even got hurt because of me. Jiang Nian, I really do like you.”
She took a deep breath. “Before… I ignored your kindness because I was afraid you were only doing it with some hidden motive. I distanced myself because I feared my father would make anyone close to me suffer. But, Nian, there were so many nights lying beside you when I felt completely at peace. The scent of your pheromones didn’t just calm me—it comforted me. Not because I was sick. But because I liked you.”
Qiao Wenyu’s voice shook slightly as she continued, “I know I hurt you. I was afraid you’d get tired of waiting for me, that you’d stop caring. That’s why I secretly planned to remove the mark instead of asking you to complete it. But… I need you.”
Jiang Nian’s hand stayed pressed against the door. Her chest rose and fell quickly as her breath caught. She never imagined that Qiao Wenyu had been carrying so many burdens, hiding so much fear.
The scent of roses floated gently through the air—Qiao Wenyu’s pheromones, quietly reaching out, like a whisper longing for the warmth of red wine.
“Sister…” Jiang Nian reached out, wanting to touch her. But suddenly, she hesitated. She curled her fingers inward, then stepped forward and gently wrapped Qiao Wenyu in her arms.
“Nian…” Qiao Wenyu’s eyes sparkled with emotion as she slowly closed them.
A girl closing her eyes… was an unspoken request for a kiss.
Jiang Nian understood. She calmed the instincts that surged within her and gently cupped Qiao Wenyu’s face, pressing a soft kiss to her closed eyelids.
“Sister… forgive me. You chose me, so you can’t leave me again. From now on, you belong to me.” Jiang Nian slipped her fingers into Qiao Wenyu’s thick hair, carefully brushing it aside.
The delicate skin of her neck was exposed, the gland slightly raised and red from the heat. It glistened faintly under the light.
This was the place where an Omega’s mark would be placed—a mark that would bind them to one person for life.
Jiang Nian bowed her head and pressed a reverent kiss against it. The moment her lips touched that soft skin, tears welled up in her eyes. Somewhere along the way, she had fallen so deeply in love with Qiao Wenyu that even now—standing on the edge of having her—she cherished every second.
“Wenyu… I…” A single tear slipped from the corner of her eye. She didn’t know why she was crying at a moment like this, but she couldn’t stop. “I love you…”
And then, in the air, red wine and roses mingled—her pheromones and Qiao Wenyu’s colliding gently. On the wall, their shadows leaned slowly toward one another… closer… and closer.
The moment overtook them. Jiang Nian’s slightly sharp canines appeared. With Qiao Wenyu’s consent, she leaned in and carefully bit down. A sweet taste filled her mouth.
The rich scent of red wine spread through the room. Qiao Wenyu tilted her neck back, letting out a soft hum as her arms wrapped tightly around Jiang Nian. Her fingernails traced down her smooth shoulders, leaving faint marks.
After the mark was made, Jiang Nian couldn’t hold back any longer. She broke into sobs, her voice trembling with nervousness and vulnerability.
“Sister…”
Qiao Wenyu’s body gradually calmed. The heat faded. The discomfort disappeared. Her eyes, now clear, looked up at Jiang Nian with quiet affection.
“You silly little puppy.”
Let me remember only you, forever.
“Sister… Sister…”
That morning, Jiang Nian was the first to wake up, stirred by the sunlight filtering through the window. She turned over comfortably, intending to catch a bit more sleep—until her hand brushed against something warm.
“…!”
Jiang Nian’s eyes flew open—and right next to her, she saw Qiao Wenyu’s peaceful, sleeping face.
Ah… waking up to Sister’s face first thing in the morning… what a blessing.
Wait—
Something’s off.
Why was she waking up next to Sister in the first place?
Memories from the night before came rushing back—wild, fragmented, and undeniably real. Embarrassed, Jiang Nian buried her face under the blanket. Her legs stretched out slightly, only to brush against Qiao Wenyu again.
This was too much…
Jiang Nian quickly got out of bed and dressed. Seeing how soundly Qiao Wenyu was sleeping, she decided not to wake her. Quietly, she slipped out the door and left the wellness center.
She drove straight to the office.
When she arrived at the company, a faint smile lingered on her face, and there was a visible glow about her. She looked… radiant.
The receptionist and a few employees who happened to be clocking in gave her surprised looks.
Why did the boss look so refreshed and… happy?
In the past, President Jiang had a reputation for being unpredictable and aloof—difficult to approach and often indifferent about work. Lately, though, she’d become more involved, more present. Almost like a different person. But even so, she still carried a certain chill that kept people at a distance.
Today, it was like the sun had risen in the west.
“Morning!” Jiang Nian noticed their stares and raised a cheerful hand in greeting.
“G-Good morning…” the stunned employees responded in unison.
Jiang Nian? Greeting people so enthusiastically? That was rare enough. But with this much energy?
This was bizarre.
But Jiang Nian didn’t care at all about their puzzled expressions. She was in a great mood. She walked into her office and, once seated, gave her desk chair a playful spin.
Her assistant, Lu Renbing, walked in just in time to witness it—and froze in disbelief. He backed out, closed the door, then opened it again like he needed to double-check reality.
“President Jiang?”
“What is it?” Jiang Nian rested her chin on one hand while the other idly spun a small ornament on her desk.
Lu Renbing cautiously asked, “Did… something good happen?”
Jiang Nian looked a little embarrassed. She turned to glance out the window. “You could say that.”
“Oh…” Lu Renbing was quick to read between the lines—and based on her mood, he had a good idea what “something good” meant.
Jiang Nian released the ornament, letting it slow to a stop. “Why are you here?”
“I’ve found the information you asked me to look into,” he replied.
Jiang Nian stilled. The smile on her face faded. She turned to look at him directly.
“Really? Tell me everything.”
“When you went abroad, Miss Qiao was already studying at your school, just in a higher year. She and President Bai were close classmates back then,” Lu Renbing reported.
Jiang Nian already knew that Jiang Fenyun was still enrolled at that school at the time. Qiao Wenyu and Bai Ye were in a neighboring campus. But how could Jiang Fenyun, a lower-grade student, have known seniors from another school?
“Did you find anything else?” she asked.
“Well…” Lu Renbing lowered his voice. “There was a student in the same grade as Miss Qiao who accidentally drowned during the graduation party. The school kept it quiet—it was never made public.”
Jiang Nian’s brows drew together. Something felt off.
“What did you say? Drowned?”
“Yes. The student’s parents pressured the school for a long time, but eventually gave up after nothing came of it.” Lu Renbing glanced at his phone to double-check the info. “The student’s name was Tong… Tong Qiu.”
“What? What was the surname?” Jiang Nian’s eyes snapped up.
Tong?
Was this just a coincidence?
