After Becoming a Full-Time Employee, I Signed a Romance Contract with My Ice-Cold Boss - Chapter 33
The car accident
The Morning Rush Hour.
The luxury car and the van behind it merged into the main road’s traffic as naturally and silently as water droplets joining a river.
The driver glanced at the rearview mirror and said in a low voice, “President Jiang, someone is following us.”
Jiang Fengyi gave instructions calmly: “Contact security. Don’t rush back to the company yet; drive around for a few more laps and wait for the bodyguards to catch up.”
They were both incredibly composed, leaving Xu Que as the only one looking utterly shocked.
“What? Someone is following us?”
“We’ll be okay, right?”
Jiang Fengyi used the hand that had been resting against Xu Que’s arm all morning to pat her, offering comfort: “It’s fine. The bodyguards will protect us.”
“We are very safe in this car.” She tapped the window. “This is bulletproof; the safety rating is very high.”
Scenes from various movies flashed through Xu Que’s mind. Her body moved involuntarily, sliding closer toward Jiang Fengyi.
Thinking she was afraid, Jiang Fengyi was about to continue comforting her when she felt Xu Que move. The arm that had been stiff all morning reached out and pulled her by the shoulder.
At the same time, Xu Que said, “I will protect you, too.”
Xu Que held her carefully in her arms, looking out the car window warily.
Zizizi—
Xu Que was startled by the sudden sound in the cabin. Jiang Fengyi, held in her arms, seemed unfazed, quietly watching the partition in front of them slowly descend.
The driver silently withdrew the hand that had pressed the partition button, hiding her contribution to the moment.
The tips of Xu Que’s ears turned red. She said awkwardly, “You… you didn’t need to put this down.”
Jiang Fengyi pressed the button by her side, and the partition that had just descended hissed as it retracted back up.
The driver glanced at the rearview mirror. The two in the back seat were each looking out their respective windows. They were clearly trying to maintain a sense of distance, yet it was as if a red thread was tightly winding them together.
The driver’s grip on the steering wheel tightened with newfound energy; a boring job needs a bit of “sweetness” to keep things interesting.
After circling near the company several times, the van behind them was still in hot pursuit. The driver slowed down.
One of their backup vehicles accelerated, finding an opportunity to cut in between Jiang Fengyi’s car and the van. The bodyguards used their own vehicle to separate Jiang Fengyi from the pursuer.
Seeing this, the driver pulled over to the side of the road.
Another car following closely behind Jiang Fengyi also stopped. Xu Que saw the bodyguard captain she had met at the hospital lead her team out of the car, surrounding Jiang Fengyi’s vehicle to secure the perimeter.
Xu Que lowered the window to greet her.
Wen Qing, the bodyguard captain, recognized Xu Que immediately. She saw her sitting closely with her new boss, greeting her enthusiastically.
“Hello!”
“He… Hello…”
Does the boss love her that much? Wen Qing thought. She even brings her along to work. It made sense now why the boss had lost her composure the moment she couldn’t find her.
The car in front had forced the van to a halt. A bodyguard stepped out and knocked on the modified, one-way tinted window of the van.
The people inside didn’t make a sound for a long time. Jiang Fengyi’s security team was patient; as long as there was no movement, they kept pounding on the glass.
Finally, the pitch-black glass lowered. There were only two people inside: a driver and a thin man in the passenger seat holding a camera.
“What are you doing?”
The thin man trembled. “Tak… taking pictures.”
“Then why were you sneakily following my boss’s car?” The bodyguard grabbed the man’s collar with one hand while leaning against the window. “Since you said you’re taking pictures, let me see what you’ve captured.”
“Open the gallery for me!”
The man struggled, talking in circles and refusing to let them see the photos.
Due to her profession, the bodyguard underwent intensive daily training. Her movements were incredibly swift. Before the thin man could react, she was already flipping through the photos one by one.
“Secret filming?” The bodyguard’s voice turned cold. She immediately reported the matter to her superior via her headset.
The man began to speak recklessly out of desperation: “I… I’m going to call the police! You snatched my camera!”
The bodyguard spread her hands. “The camera is right there on you. When did I snatch it?” She stared intently at the thin man to prevent him from fleeing.
“As for you, you’re in big trouble.” She snorted. “I don’t know who hired you for this dirty work, but you should have checked the internet before taking the money.”
“Do you not know who my employer is?”
The man lowered his head, his eyes filled with regret. It wasn’t that he didn’t know; it was that the other party had offered too much money—so much that he was willing to take the risk.
Now caught red-handed, he realized he shouldn’t have been so opportunistic.
Behind the van, Wen Qing had already reported the secret filming to Jiang Fengyi.
“Secret filming?” Xu Que didn’t understand. “Is it a paparazzo? But why would a paparazzo follow and film you instead of chasing celebrity gossip in the entertainment industry?”
“It’s definitely not a paparazzo.”
“Just a fool blinded by greed.”
Jiang Fengyi spoke to Wen Qing outside: “Ask who sent them. If he won’t talk, call the police and send him in.”
“And if he does talk?”
“Then give him a sum of money, and then call the police and send him in.”
Having handled the roadside incident, Jiang Fengyi closed the window and spoke to the driver. “Back to the company.”
Xu Que checked the time. Working hours had already started; her perfect attendance bonus for the month was gone.
Jiang Fengyi seemed to read her mind. “Go fill out an off-site duty application. For the reason, just put ‘assisting supervisor with official business.’ Don’t worry about your attendance bonus.”
“I’m more worried about you than my bonus!”
As soon as these words were spoken, the car became so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
The driver wanted to press the partition button again, fearing she might hear something she shouldn’t. She couldn’t lose her job just for a bit of gossip; that would be a foolish trade-off.
She focused her attention and pricked up her ears. If they started getting romantic, she would definitely hit the partition button immediately.
Unfortunately, both of them were like “gourds with sawed-off mouths”—completely silent.
The car drove into the company without hindrance. This time, Jiang Fengyi didn’t let Xu Que get off early but drove her straight into the underground garage.
After getting out, Xu Que followed Jiang Fengyi into the elevator. She thought her luck was great today—no waiting, and the elevator went straight to the twenty-second floor.
As Xu Que stepped out and saw the familiar surroundings, she said in surprise, “Isn’t this your office?”
“No wonder I’ve never taken this elevator before. It’s your private one.”
“If you’d like, you can continue taking it with me. It’ll save you time waiting in the morning.”
Xu Que felt a shameful flutter of excitement.
“Is that okay?”
“Of course.”
When Xu Que walked out of Jiang Fengyi’s office, all the colleagues working in the CEO’s office looked over at her.
Oh no, I forgot it’s working hours right now.
The more flustered she felt inside, the more she had to maintain a calm facade. After she sat down, He Shuyi leaned over and whispered to her.
“I didn’t see you this morning. I thought you were off sick. Why did you come out of President Jiang’s office?”
“Cough… ahem…” Xu Que awkwardly changed the subject. “I just heard President Jiang say there will be a press conference next week.”
At the mention of this, He Shuyi’s shoulders slumped. “Sister Wu just came by and mentioned it.” She sighed. “Looks like we’re working overtime again this week.”
After Jiang Fengyi left, Wen Qing walked toward the van. She didn’t want to play games with the man and asked directly, “How much did they give you? We’ll give you double.”
“Tell me, who sent you? Tell us everything you know.”
The thin man had no sense of professional ethics. Under the temptation of money, he immediately sold out his previous employer.
“Even though she wore a mask and I couldn’t see her face, I’m certain she’s from the Zhao family,” the man guaranteed. “I followed her all the way and saw her car enter the Zhao family villa with my own eyes.”
“Even if she isn’t part of the Zhao family, she’s acting on their orders.”
Hearing that he was to follow and film the heir of the Jiang family, the man hadn’t been entirely unprepared.
He had followed them all the way without the Zhao family noticing him, which had boosted his confidence. But once he reached Jiang Fengyi’s side, he was caught as soon as he showed his face.
Wen Qing continued the interrogation. Seeing that the man had nothing new to offer, she turned around and sent him to the police station.
In the office.
Jiang Fengyi leaned back in her chair, relaxing her body and giving her full weight to the backrest. she closed her eyes and rolled them slightly to rest them after staring at the screen for so long.
“The Zhao family again.”
“They’re truly desperate, even resorting to such petty tricks.”
“They’re using everything they’ve got; we can’t just sit idly by. Proceed as I instructed before. I want to see what else the Zhao family has up their sleeve.”
“Alright, I understand. Go back and rest after you’re done. Besides increasing the security around me, arrange for two people to follow Xu Que.”
“It’ll be hard on you all for a while. Once this is over, I’ll give you bonuses and annual leave.”
After ending the call, there was a knock on Jiang Fengyi’s office door.
“Come in!”
Before the person even reached her, she heard Xu Que asking, “Are you finished? Do you want to head back together after work?”
Jiang Fengyi pointed helplessly at the pile of documents on her desk. “I have to work overtime today.”
Xu Que had originally intended to wait for Jiang Fengyi to finish, but Jiang Fengyi said one thing to her:
“I’d like to have the chestnut and black-boned chicken soup you cook.”
She immediately changed her mind. “Okay, then I’ll go to the supermarket for ingredients and start stewing it. Come back as early as you can.”
“Okay.”
Just before Xu Que walked out of the office, Jiang Fengyi added a reminder: “There’s a lot to do today. I might not be back very soon.”
“It’s okay. No matter how late, I’ll wait for you.”
Jiang Fengyi smiled and agreed.
The chicken soup wasn’t even done yet when Xu Que’s phone received a push notification about a car accident involving Jiang Fengyi.
The soup spoon in her hand hit the floor with a “thud,” shattering into pieces.
“How is that possible!” Xu Que’s eyes were glued to the line of text on the screen.

Under the black text was a photo of the accident scene. The car Xu Que had ridden in with Jiang Fengyi that morning had collided with another vehicle.
The front of the car was crumpled, black smoke was billowing from the engine, and the windshield was covered in countless cracks, with the bulletproof glass having completely detached from the frame.
The entire car was mangled, lying sideways against a road barrier.
“It must be fake news from some marketing account!”
“Yes, yes, it must be!” Xu Que convinced herself. “Jiang Fengyi must still be at the office working overtime. I’ll go find her right now!”
Xu Que kept talking to herself, lacking even the courage to make a phone call to verify the news.
She rushed out of the kitchen, forgetting to turn off the gas on the stove, and ran out of the door wearing only her indoor slippers.
The moment Xu Que opened the front door, she was blocked by the arms of two bodyguards stationed outside.
“Miss Xu, for your safety, please stay inside.”
“Who are you?”
