After Becoming a Full-Time Employee, I Signed a Romance Contract with My Ice-Cold Boss - Chapter 10
Do You Have a Crush on President Jiang?
After Jiang Fengyi stirred up a mess of trouble for the Zhao family, life finally returned to tranquility. Xu Que also moved out of Jiang Fengyi’s house and back into her own home.
Xu Que was incredibly enthusiastic about her job as an assistant; compared to her time before becoming a permanent employee, it was far too easy. Her job was simply to revolve around Jiang Fengyi.
This resulted in her being full of drive every day at work: “I love this assistant job!”
He Shuyi corrected her: “The division of labor between assistants varies. Because you are President Jiang’s life assistant, you only focus on President Jiang, so the work is leisurely.”
“If you were an executive assistant like Sister Wu, you’d have to attend many meetings and sometimes push various tasks forward on behalf of President Jiang. You’d be busy from morning till night.”
She pointed to herself: “I belong to the administrative assistants. I only need to execute the tasks sent down from above; relatively speaking, it’s not difficult either.”
After this analysis, Xu Que realized her job was indeed the easiest. Moreover, she was receiving two salaries: one for the assistant job, and one for the “pretend couple” job.
To ensure she didn’t feel burdened by taking the money, Xu Que couldn’t help but pour extra energy into Jiang Fengyi.
“Has President Jiang’s meeting been going on for two hours now?”
He Shuyi glanced at the time in the bottom right corner of the computer screen: “About that. Meetings are like that; it’s easy for the time to get extended.”
Xu Que stood up: “I’m going to prepare some food for President Jiang. She barely ate a few bites at lunch.”
He Shuyi’s mouth dropped open. She really wanted to ask: How do you know she barely ate at lunch? Did you two eat lunch together? Your relationship is definitely unusual.
Although she was screaming internally, she only gave a faint “mm” on the surface and even considerately asked if she needed help.
Xu Que naturally declined. He Shuyi wasn’t getting paid extra, so there was no need for her to put in extra labor.
Left at her workstation, He Shuyi was not as calm as she appeared.
Through careful observation over the past few days, she had discovered a huge secret!
There was something fishy between Xu Que and President Jiang!
Although she had known early on that Xu Que was “connected” to President Jiang, she had initially assumed they were relatives, never imagining it was a romantic matter.
But as the two showed an unusual level of closeness, she dismissed the possibility of them being relatives.
She made a reasonable guess:
Xu Que was suspected of having a secret crush on her boss!!!
But President Jiang’s reaction was also worth savoring; she didn’t stop it and even tacitly allowed the other party to continue!
She understood now—so that was the kind of “connection” they had!
He Shuyi looked excited. She hadn’t been on the job long, and she was already getting the scoop on the boss!
Although she hadn’t found proof yet, He Shuyi firmly believed her sixth sense was correct.
Initially, she had only viewed Xu Que as a relative of President Jiang and didn’t notice anything wrong. But as Xu Que gradually let her guard down, she began to notice the clues.
Xu Que always knew every detail of President Jiang’s private life—how much she ate at the last meal, whether she slept well at night—small things that only someone very close would know.
Wait, could Xu Que be living with President Jiang?
It wasn’t impossible.
On the other side,
Xu Que ordered some cut fruit and specifically brewed a cup of chrysanthemum and goji berry tea for Jiang Fengyi. It was good for the liver and eyes, suitable for someone staring at a computer for a long time.
Upon returning to her station, she noticed He Shuyi next to her looking at her with a strange expression.
There it was again.
That “I’m gossiping about you” look.
Speaking of which, He Shuyi had been acting a bit off these past few days. Even the frequency of her dragging Xu Que to the pantry to eat snacks and gossip had dropped.
Xu Que had no choice but to ask, “What’s wrong?”
He Shuyi originally wanted to pretend she didn’t know anything—after all, it was the boss’s private business—but as a gossip enthusiast, she couldn’t suppress her curiosity. She stared at Xu Que, hesitating.
After sitting down, Xu Que clicked on Jiang Fengyi’s private avatar and sent a message reminding her to eat after the meeting, saying the fruit was on her office desk.
Looking up, she saw He Shuyi’s hesitation.
“There’s no need for secrets between us. If you have something to say, just say it.”
After spending time together, Xu Que had already started to consider He Shuyi a friend.
He Shuyi probed indirectly: “Where do you live? If it’s on the way, we can head home together after work.”
What she actually wanted to ask was: Are you living with President Jiang?
It just so happened that Xu Que had moved back to her own place today. If He Shuyi had asked a day earlier, she wouldn’t have agreed.
“I live in Sunshine Garden,” Xu Que gave the name of the old residential area.
He Shuyi lied with her eyes closed, “That’s on the way. Let’s go together after work.”
While Xu Que was working, He Shuyi searched “Sunshine Garden” on the map. It showed it was an old neighborhood.
This wasn’t right. It was impossible for President Jiang to live there with Xu Que. And seeing how naturally Xu Que said it, it didn’t seem like she was making up a lie to deceive her.
She still didn’t give up and continued, “I often see you and President Jiang leaving together these past two days.” The more curious she was, the more nonchalant she acted. “Are you two on the same route as well?”
As soon as the topic of Jiang Fengyi came up, Xu Que’s brain suddenly sharpened.
“I was wondering why you were acting weird. Turns out you’re trying to dig for President Jiang’s address.”
Xu Que’s smile faded: “I suggest you give up on that idea. I won’t reveal any of President Jiang’s private matters to you.”
Aside from the two of them and Wu Qi, there were two other “fanatic fans” in the CEO’s office who had succumbed to Jiang Fengyi’s personal charm. They had joined Jingjiang Technology just to see their goddess.
And what position was closer to the goddess than being her private assistant? After finally passing layers of screening, they realized upon joining that the goddess actually had many assistants.
Now, Xu Que categorized He Shuyi as one of them.
“You misunderstand, I’m not.”
Xu Que nodded perfunctorily: “Sure, sure. They all say that.”
The meeting ended.
Only then did Jiang Fengyi have time to check her phone. Aside from a few work notifications, Xu Que’s avatar was the most prominent.
She scrolled through slowly. At first, Xu Que asked when the meeting would end, then later said there were fruit and floral tea on the desk, reminding her to eat. The last message was sent half an hour ago.
[He Shuyi is acting weird. She’s trying to find out your home address. I suspect she is also a fanatic fan of yours.]
Jiang Fengyi couldn’t help but recall her few encounters with He Shuyi.
Every time, Little He was so nervous she didn’t know where to put her hands—the perfect image of a subordinate who didn’t want to see her boss.
[Could you be mistaken? I don’t think she wants to see me very much.]
Jiang Fengyi returned to her office and immediately saw the fruit and tea on her desk.
The dried flowers had fully bloomed in the hot water. Jiang Fengyi took a sip; the warm tea flowed down her throat and through her body, and the faint floral scent dissipated the fatigue from the long meeting.
Jiang Fengyi quite enjoyed Xu Que’s preparations. Sometimes she thought that even if she hadn’t needed Xu Que to play her partner, she would have hired her as an assistant anyway.
In the office, Jiang Fengyi was leisurely enjoying her afternoon tea.
Outside the office, Xu Que was staring at He Shuyi. Once the seed of suspicion was planted, everything the other person did seemed suspicious.
I treated you as a friend, but you’re only using me to get close to Jiang Fengyi.
Opposite her, He Shuyi felt truly wronged.
Only a few days had passed, and she was already starting to miss the Xu Que who had just joined—the complete newbie who would obediently ask her before doing anything.
Now, she was being looked at as if she were a corporate spy.
She decided to just let it all out and voiced the suspicion in her heart.
“Do you have a crush on President Jiang?”
Xu Que was so shocked her phone dropped onto the desk. She had been about to reply to Jiang Fengyi’s message but was too stunned by He Shuyi’s question to react.
“Look at you. Whenever President Jiang is mentioned, you become a different person. You really can’t blame me for being sharp; anyone who pays attention can see it.”
Xu Que glanced around. Luckily, no one had heard.
“Keep your voice down.”
She felt guilty, then asked, “Is it… is it that obvious?”
He Shuyi lowered her voice: “I don’t know about the others, but I saw it at a glance.”
While gossiping, she didn’t forget to pay a compliment: “You have good taste. President Jiang is young, beautiful, and knows how to run a business. You aren’t the only one with a crush on her.”
Hearing this, Xu Que, who was worried about being exposed, breathed a sigh of relief.
That was close. So she hasn’t found out. I almost outed myself.
She followed up by asking, “Oh? Who else has a crush on President Jiang?”
He Shuyi listed them for her: “Lily from HR, Amy from Marketing, and the two daughters of the Zhao family.”
Xu Que was confused: “Didn’t President Jiang only go on a blind date with the eldest Zhao daughter? How did the second daughter get involved?”
He Shuyi had been with the company longer than Xu Que and had heard more than enough gossip.
She leaned into Xu Que’s ear, covering her mouth with her hand, and whispered: “I heard the second Zhao daughter fell in love at first sight with President Jiang. That’s why she begged her family to send her to Jiang Fengyi’s company.”
“There’s an inside story like that?”
Xu Que’s eyes widened. Jiang Fengyi herself probably didn’t even know this.
He Shuyi asked inquisitively: “So, when did you start liking President Jiang?”
Xu Que’s mind was full of the need to tell Jiang Fengyi about Zhao Ruxuan. Facing He Shuyi’s question, she said half-truthfully: “The first day I saw President Jiang. I also fell in love at first sight.”
She would always remember that day.
The typhoon was about to hit, the wind was raging outside, and the moment she saw Jiang Fengyi, she felt her heart skip a beat.
She had even put the permanent position she longed for in the back of her mind; her whole focus was only on the Jiang Fengyi in front of her.
“Yo, lost in the memory, are we?”
He Shuyi’s voice pulled her back.
She nodded solemnly: “But with a face like President Jiang’s, she truly has the ability to make people fall in love at first sight.” She patted Xu Que, “But you aren’t bad yourself.”
“Think big. Maybe President Jiang felt something for you that day too.”
He Shuyi fantasized on her own: “Although many people like President Jiang, I firmly support you, sister. Setting everything else aside, just seeing your two faces together—it’s a perfect match.”
She was a total visualist; beautiful women belonged with beautiful women. Therefore, she naturally became a “shipper” of the two.
Xu Que’s face turned slightly red. She couldn’t bring herself to be thick-skinned enough to agree.
She couldn’t exactly reply: Sister, actually, President Jiang and I are already a couple.
Xu Que stood up and quickly found an excuse.
“I’m going to the restroom.”
He Shuyi watched her back, following her with her eyes all the way until she turned and entered President Jiang’s office.
That’s way too perfunctory of an excuse!!!
