After A Secret Marriage With The Trending Queen - Chapter 66
Chapter 66
Shen Jing arrived at the agreed meeting location. Across the street, a handsome, fair-skinned man in a cool suit and sunglasses leaned against a sports car.
Shen Jing experienced a split second of being captivated, but he immediately crushed the feeling.
“I’m here.”
Ye Xun glanced at him. “Let’s talk in the car.”
Shen Jing didn’t resist. Right now, any method that led to finding his sister was one he was willing to try.
“Why are you helping me?”
Ye Xun smiled. “Because I like you. You asked me that last time.”
“Is there really no other motive or reason?” Shen Jing asked, skeptical.
“What’s my name?”
Shen Jing paused. “Ye… Ye Xun?”
Ye Xun raised an eyebrow. “Have you still not figured anything out?”
“……” Shen Jing suddenly understood. “Are you related to Ye Qin?”
“Bingo!” Ye Xun snapped his fingers. “Ye Qin is my cousin.”
Shen Jing’s expression at the time was: “???”
“You two are cousins?”
“What’s wrong? Is that strange?” Ye Xun frowned.
“It’s very strange,” Shen Jing rested his arm on the car window. “Sister Qin never mentioned you, and you weren’t invited to the wedding.”
Ye Xun smiled again. “That’s normal. We haven’t been in contact with their family for many years, ever since that incident happened.”
That incident… Shen Jing understood.
“So, how are you going to help me find them?” Shen Jing asked.
Ye Xun’s slender fingers tapped the steering wheel. “I’ve already sent people to handle it. We should have news soon.”
Although Shen Jing wasn’t sure if he could be trusted, this seemed to be the only option for now.
“Then, thank you in advance,” Shen Jing said.
“If you really want to thank me, have dinner with me tonight,” Ye Xun turned his head, the playful grin instantly breaking his cool facade. He even nudged against Shen Jing. “How about it?”
Shen Jing swallowed silently. “Whatever you want to do, I guess.”
He was the one asking for a favor now; he wasn’t in a position to object.
…
Around evening, another group of people arrived at the abandoned warehouse. Without a word, they blindfolded Shen Lu and Ye Qin again, untied them from the chairs, and led them away.
Shen Lu flailed her arms, unable to see where she was going, and walked very cautiously. “Where are you taking me?”
But no one answered her.
When her blindfold was finally removed, she realized she had been separated from Ye Qin. She was in a room with four walls, a small bed, and a small table with a few bottles of water on it.
Shen Lu immediately rushed to the door to try to open it. No matter how hard she pulled, the door wouldn’t budge. She started banging on the door and shouting Ye Qin’s name to ensure she was nearby. “Ye Qin! Ye Qin, are you there? Can you hear me?”
But this time, she couldn’t hear Ye Qin’s voice. Shen Lu’s heart plummeted. Without Ye Qin beside her, an immense and overwhelming fear washed over her.
When Ye Qin’s blindfold was taken off, she realized she had been brought into a dark room. The room suddenly brightened, though the light was very faint, coming from an old-fashioned bulb around which various small moths fluttered.
Immediately after, footsteps echoed behind her—the sound of high heels. This confirmed the captor was a woman, and if Ye Qin guessed correctly, this person was likely the mastermind behind everything.
The woman’s steps came closer and finally leaned down to whisper in Ye Qin’s ear. “Surprised?”
Ye Qin’s body instantly stiffened. “Tan Xueying!”
The next moment, Tan Xueying walked around to face her, arms crossed, a smile in her eyes. “I thought you were smarter than that. You didn’t even guess it was me.”
Ye Qin gritted her teeth and glared at her. “Where did you take Shen Lu?”
Tan Xueying lit a cigarette, holding it between her fingers as she exhaled a puff of smoke. “Don’t worry about Shen Lu. She’ll be fine for now. You should worry more about yourself.”
Ye Qin struggled in the chair to no avail. She looked up at Tan Xueying. “What exactly do you want?”
Tan Xueying shrugged and spread her hands. “I don’t want anything. The whole country knows today was supposed to be your wedding with Shen Lu. Too bad I ruined it. I feel quite happy now,” she said. She then walked closer and brought the cigarette near Ye Qin’s face. “Tell me, what would happen if I left a few burn scars on your pretty face? Would your fans still love you the same way?”
“You’re completely insane,” Ye Qin said through clenched teeth.
“That’s right, I am insane,” Tan Xueying took a deep drag from the cigarette, then threw it on the floor and stepped on it. “You caused all of this!”
Ye Qin stared at her, saying nothing.
Tan Xueying sat on the chair across from her, examining her while speaking. Her eyes were strange, and her whole demeanor was unsettling, bordering on deranged. “You know, sometimes I really envy you. You don’t have to do anything, and millions of people like you. You don’t have to do anything, and you get everyone’s attention. And me? I have to desperately work hard, hone my acting, and film relentlessly. All I get is the title of an ‘acting-powerhouse.’ But what’s the use? When people mention a popular actress, the first person they think of is always you… An actress… Do you really deserve to be an actress?”
Ye Qin sneered. “If people don’t like you, did you ever consider if the problem lies with yourself?”
That sentence instantly infuriated Tan Xueying. She suddenly became explosive and agitated. “What problem do I have? What problem do I have?! Ye Qin, who do you think you are, that the whole world should revolve around you?”
“I am me. You’re not revolving around me, are you, Tan Xueying? I just don’t understand. How did you end up like this? There’s so much competition in the entertainment industry. Why did you specifically target me? You’re a ‘powerhouse’ actress, and I’m an ‘idol’ actress. Am I really that much of a threat to you?”
Ye Qin’s analysis, surprisingly, hit home for Tan Xueying. Tan Xueying suddenly laughed. “You’re right. You’re no threat to me, and our resources rarely overlap. But you’re the daughter of the person I hate. Since she’s in jail now and I can’t take revenge on her, I’ll take revenge on you instead.”
Hearing this, Ye Qin’s pupils dilated. “What feud do you have with that woman?”
“Surprising, right? How about that? Are you shocked? I am the daughter of the man who cheated with your mother all those years ago. Your mother is a vixen, and you, her daughter, are also a vixen,” Tan Xueying paused and added, “My father was utterly infatuated by your vixen mother and filed for divorce from my mom. My perfectly good family was destroyed. Tell me, shouldn’t I hate her?”
Ye Qin suddenly understood. In the end, this was merely about repaying a debt owed by the previous generation.
“So, what exactly do you want?” Ye Qin asked.
“I want you dead,” Tan Xueying articulated clearly. “Because only when you’re dead can I be with Shen Lu. Oh, right, I almost forgot to tell you. Those threatening messages you received? I sent them. Those indecent photos of you that were exposed? I hired people to do it. Everything was me. You’re going to die soon anyway, so I’ll let you die knowing why.”
