After A Secret Marriage With The Trending Queen - Chapter 59
Chapter 59
On the way back to the hostel, Shen Lu tried hard to keep up with Ye Qin’s pace. “Where are you staying tonight? Did you reserve a room when you arrived? This place requires a reservation, and it’s definitely fully booked tonight. How long do you plan to stay?”
Ye Qin suddenly stopped. Shen Lu nearly bumped her nose, and Ye Qin looked at her with a half-smile. “We haven’t seen each other for a while, and you’ve become quite talkative.”
Shen Lu’s face flushed. “I was just…” It was a conditioned reflex. After being an assistant for so long, she automatically considered these details.
“Just what, hmm?”
“…..” Shen Lu went silent.
Just then, Ye Qin naturally swept a strand of her long hair back. “I’ll just sleep in your room tonight. Hurry up and walk; I’m hungry and want to find a place to eat.”
Shen Lu stood frozen: ???
…
Back at the hostel, Ye Qin personally carried her super-heavy suitcase up to Shen Lu’s room. Shen Lu watched, wanting to help, truly worried that Ye Qin’s frail frame might collapse under the weight, but Ye Qin wouldn’t let her.
As Ye Qin unpacked and prepared to change clothes, Shen Lu leaned nearby and asked, “What are you going to do now that you’ve announced your withdrawal from the entertainment industry?”
Ye Qin stopped moving and went quiet for a moment. Then she suddenly smiled. “No plans. I just want to be carefree and relax for a while, like you.”
Shen Lu pouted, looking at her with a mix of exasperation and disappointment. “I’m just an assistant on a fixed salary. I can do other things if I lose my job. You’re different. How can you just quit like that?”
“I can do other things too,” Ye Qin replied, looking up at her with a look of innocence.
Shen Lu slumped onto a seat in annoyance. “…That’s incredibly irresponsible. What about the fans who love you? What about the team staff who fought day and night alongside you?”
Ye Qin raised an eyebrow. “So, you want me to go back to the entertainment industry?”
Shen Lu nodded. She admitted there was a selfish motive, too; she hoped Ye Qin could shine brighter and become even more exceptional in the industry.
“Then I’ll go back,” Ye Qin replied, speaking as if it were the simplest thing in the world.
“Really?” Shen Lu was slightly disbelieving.
“Really,” Ye Qin answered again, then stood up. “Let’s go, come out and eat with me.”
Though unspoken, it was clear in Ye Qin’s heart: whatever Shen Lu asked of her in the future, Ye Qin would do her best to fulfill it, to make up for the wrong she had inflicted. Because only by remaining a star could she use that opportunity to keep Shen Lu tethered to her side.
…
The plateau night was cold, almost like winter. Emerging from a local specialty restaurant, the biting wind was sharp. Ye Qin, prioritizing style, was relatively lightly dressed, while Shen Lu had wisely wrapped herself up like a dumpling. Seeing Ye Qin shivering, Shen Lu couldn’t help but laugh. Ye Qin, however, wouldn’t have it. She stopped right where she was and told her, “I’m too cold to walk.”
Shen Lu stood a few steps away, smiling. “Who told you to wear so little? Hurry up, it’s only a few hundred meters to the hostel.”
Ye Qin seemed to throw a tantrum, stomping her foot. She wouldn’t move. “No. Not unless you carry me.”
Shen Lu looked around in horror, wondering if passersby had heard. How could Ye Qin be so brazen, saying something like that in public? “How can I walk while carrying you?”
Ye Qin took a few steps forward, pulled open Shen Lu’s coat, and swiftly slipped inside. Her other arm wrapped directly around Shen Lu’s waist. Shen Lu shivered in surprise.
“See, this works.”
Wrapped together in one coat, it was quite “intimate.”
Ye Qin seemed unfazed and walked cheerfully. Shen Lu kept her head down, utterly embarrassed. “It looks so bad if people see us like this. They’ll think we’re showing off affection.”
Ye Qin smiled. “Let them think we’re showing off affection. We’re legally married; what’s there to be afraid of?”
Shen Lu quickly reached up to cover Ye Qin’s mouth. “You said that just now; it has nothing to do with me! I’m not paying you 50 million yuan!”
Ye Qin didn’t speak, her eyes smiling, and her warm breath fanned across Shen Lu’s palm, tickling her. Shen Lu instinctively pulled her hand back. “…Suit yourself.”
…
At 8 PM here, it was nearly 10 PM back in A City. Ye Qin proactively called Shen Lu’s family, her tone gentle.
“Yes, I found her. We’ll stay here for a few days and then head back.”
“That’s wonderful! You two need to be good to each other, be good, and don’t fight or quarrel anymore.”
“Yes, I will.”
Shen Lu sat on the other side of the bed. It was so cold that she absolutely refused to sleep on the floor and shamelessly decided to share the bed with Ye Qin. It wasn’t the first time, so what was the big deal?
“Did you call my mom?”
Ye Qin said yes, put her phone away on the bedside table, and let out a long breath. “I’m going to sleep.” With that, she lay down and turned her back, then added, “Goodnight.”
“Oh…” Shen Lu also reluctantly said goodnight. After a long while, she stretched her head over and saw that Ye Qin was genuinely asleep. Perhaps she was just too tired; she had experienced and endured so much recently.
Shen Lu sat by the head of the bed, covered in the thick quilt, daydreaming for a long time. She had planned never to see her again, yet now they were sleeping in the same bed. Fate, she thought, smiling helplessly.
But if they truly never saw each other again, she would miss her terribly.
“Don’t leave me… don’t leave me… Shen Lu…” Ye Qin was having a nightmare, her hands flailing. Shen Lu quickly held her tight, and when she heard Ye Qin call her name, her heart felt struck by something.
Suddenly, Ye Qin woke up and opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was Shen Lu’s face. The knot in her heart seemed to instantly loosen. Fine beads of sweat dotted her forehead.
Shen Lu quickly released her. “You… you had a nightmare.”
Ye Qin moved back to her spot, wiped the sweat from her forehead, and murmured, “Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it.”
The atmosphere was a little awkward, and the air was charged with subtle, intimate energy.
