After A Secret Marriage With The Trending Queen - Chapter 54
Chapter 54
In the dressing room, Ye Qin sat as the skillful makeup artist complimented her on her skin, joking about other actresses who were secret smokers. Ye Qin, feeling pleased, laughed easily.
Shen Lu rushed in, sweating and breathless, having retrieved the designer gown. “Sister, the dress is here.” She explained that her brother, Shen Jing, had forgotten to put gas in the car, forcing her to run to avoid delaying the event. Ye Qin handed her a bottle of water, and the makeup artist remarked on how kind Ye Qin was to her assistant.
After the makeup artist left, Ye Qin changed into the high-end borrowed gown. It fit her perfectly, and she confidently declared to Shen Lu, “I’m going to steal the spotlight from everyone tonight.” Shen Lu teased her about her narcissism, which Ye Qin dismissed with a confident laugh.
At the charity gala, which was attended by most of the entertainment elite, Shen Lu escorted Ye Qin to the edge of the red carpet. Ye Qin walked the carpet with practiced ease, posing for the relentless flashbulbs. Shen Lu watched, admiring how beautiful her wife looked.
After signing the poster and posing for photos, Ye Qin approached the reporters. The atmosphere shifted when one reporter broke protocol.
“Ye Qin, can you tell us about your parents? For example, the fact that your mother is currently still incarcerated?”
The question hit Ye Qin like a physical blow. Her mind went blank, and her face fell as the reporter pressed on about her claim that her parents lived abroad.
Shen Lu immediately rushed forward, shielding Ye Qin. “Excuse me, the interview time is over for today.” She quickly pulled a trembling Ye Qin away from the reporters, whose questions had already thrown the event into chaos.
…
In the dressing room, Wang Lin caught up to them and immediately turned on Shen Lu. “How could you handle this so poorly? Why didn’t you stop that reporter sooner!”
“I… there were too many people, I had a hard time getting through…” Shen Lu was hurt by the unfair accusation but simply obeyed Wang Lin’s demand for hot water.
Wang Lin knelt by Ye Qin, who was shaking with fear. “Is it over? Am I finished?”
“No, no, we’ve contacted the organizers to block the news,” Wang Lin assured her. Ye Qin hugged herself, whispering, “But I’m still so scared…”
Ye Qin’s night was over. Wang Lin and Shen Lu took her home, telling her to rest while they handled the fallout. Ye Qin silently turned over in bed, clutching the sheet.
When they left the room, Wang Lin immediately grabbed Shen Lu’s collar, her face dark with suspicion. “Did you leak the information?!”
Shen Lu shook her head, terrified. “Sister Wang, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Wang Lin released her, her voice a low growl. “If anything happens to Ye Qin this time, you’ll be held responsible.”
…
That night, rumors began to spread online. Wang Lin stayed up late with Yang Li beside her, fighting a deep sense of powerlessness as the situation spun out of control.
At midnight, an anonymous account posted a damning revelation: “Ye Qin’s mother killed her father and is currently serving a life sentence.”
Within an hour, Ye Qin Parents, Ye Qin’s Mother is a Murderer, and Ye Qin White Lotus all trended, and the public frenzy escalated. Despite the PR team’s efforts, “helpful netizens” provided “evidence” like prison contacts.
Comments were brutal: “Can’t believe Ye Qin’s mother is a murderer.” “What about her parents living abroad? I’m laughing.” “Ye Qin is probably going to flop this time.”
Shen Lu was also awake, dreading how Ye Qin would feel and angered by the public’s cruelty. Her own parents, seeing the news, rushed to her locked bedroom door, demanding answers. Shen Lu pretended to be asleep.
…
Ye Qin was haunted by nightmares of being called a “murderer’s daughter.” She woke up screaming. She went to the living room for water and accidentally turned on the morning news: “The truth about actress Ye Qin’s parents is currently causing a massive uproar…”
The glass slipped and shattered, cutting her leg, but she felt nothing.
Shen Lu rushed in, frantic. She knelt to clean the wound and bandage it, scolding Ye Qin for her carelessness.
Ye Qin stared blankly, her voice lifeless. “Shen Lu, do you think I’ve flopped?”
“How could you? There will be a solution,” Shen Lu insisted.
Ye Qin shook her head with a bitter laugh. “No. There won’t be a solution because it’s the truth… I have a murderer for a mother and an alcoholic father.”
Shen Lu’s heart sank, feeling the raw despair. She felt useless.
Ye Qin staggered to her feet. “Tell Sister Wang to cancel all my appointments. I’m tired and want to rest.”
Just as Shen Lu reached for her phone, the door opened. Wang Lin entered, immediately cutting off Shen Lu’s call. She walked past Shen Lu and approached Ye Qin.
“I have something I think you need to see.”
After seeing the materials Wang Lin brought, Ye Qin’s face was filled with utter disbelief. She whispered, “Impossible, it can’t be her….”
Wang Lin stated firmly, “The evidence is right here. What else do you refuse to believe?”
Both Wang Lin and Ye Qin then turned simultaneously to look directly at Shen Lu.
Shen Lu stood, completely bewildered. What is going on…?
