After A Secret Marriage Agreement With A Rival Omega - Chapter 27
Chapter 27
◎She is the Morning Star.◎
“Sister, wait for me! Tata!”
Little Dove heard her sister’s familiar hoofbeats and immediately ran out of the tent. She stuffed her dry bread into her bag and leaped onto her horse to give chase.
In the dark of the night, the sound of hooves was clear. The cool moonlight, like a giant veil of thin silk, slowly fell upon the grassland.
Sheng Ruxi suddenly understood what Jian Jixing had meant when she messaged her about chasing the wind of freedom.
Was this person the one?
This was yet another person she didn’t know, but Jian Jixing clearly did. When the woman reigned in the rope and turned the horse around, the horse’s front hooves leaped up, and Sheng Ruxi got a good look at her face.
She wore a long robe and a single long braid, and her movements were swift and powerful. She had a very grand look, a beautiful woman with a sense of strength. Just by looking at her face, one would overlook the large jingling silver ornaments, agates, amber, and turquoise hanging on her body and by her ears.
Judging by Little Dove’s address, the woman should be Little Dove’s older sister. Her horsemanship was clearly superb; even Jian Jixing was just sitting behind her.
When the woman was riding the horse, her back was slightly bent. She would occasionally bump into Jian Jixing behind her due to the bumpy ride, and Jian Jixing would steadily hold her up, acting as a human brake.
Sheng Ruxi gritted her teeth, thinking, They have great chemistry. Does Jian Jixing feel like the wind of freedom has crashed into her chest now?
She gripped the corner of the felt curtain that she had just lifted a little, her eyes following the free-spirited figures on the galloping horse. She wanted to let go, but she also wanted to look again, to see if Jian Jixing and the woman would do anything out of the ordinary.
Whenever they rode past her tent, Sheng Ruxi would immediately hide so she wouldn’t be discovered.
When they galloped forward again, Sheng Ruxi would happily peek out from the curtain again.
Little Dove followed her sisters steadily, keeping a certain distance, and smiling happily. The child had been with the production team for three days, but she wasn’t very curious about all these modern things. She seemed the most authentic when she was on horseback.
Sheng Ruxi just couldn’t hear what they were talking about.
These people were just passing acquaintances. What they were thinking in their hearts had nothing to do with her, right?
Sheng Ruxi couldn’t help but think sourly.
Tonight, it was no longer the sound of wolves howling but the sound of free horse hooves that made her feel frustrated. Sheng Ruxi inexplicably had an urge to call Jian Jixing back and ask her to tell her a bedtime story.
But she feared that Jian Jixing, who was currently intoxicated in her lover’s arms, wouldn’t even look at her phone.
After two more laps, the woman dismounted, and Jian Jixing took over riding the horse alone.
Sheng Ruxi couldn’t take her eyes off her. She had to admit that Jian Jixing looked very good when she was riding a horse.
In a movie or TV show, it could be a scene that would make a lasting impression.
The three of them didn’t ride for too long. They returned to the front of the tent area, dismounted, and sat down by the bonfire, at a table.
As they got closer, Sheng Ruxi could finally hear their conversation faintly.
“Is work going well?” Ayi Leta casually pulled Little Dove over. “Has she given you any trouble?”
“No, Little Dove is very well-behaved,” Jian Jixing said apologetically. “I’m the one who feels bad; I had to trouble you to come all this way.”
“I was also curious. Who is it that you need me to teach? You know I don’t just teach anyone,” Ayi Leta smiled. “I’ve only ever seen female celebrities on TV.”
Little Dove couldn’t help but say, “Miss Sheng is so beautiful, a hundred times more beautiful than she is on the big screen! If it were me, I wouldn’t want her to fall either. I’d want the best horse rider on the grassland to teach her.”
Oh?
Sheng Ruxi, who was secretly scrolling on her phone in the back, heard this. Her previously gloomy mood felt as if it had been pricked by something gentle, and her emotions deflated like a punctured balloon.
Hearing Little Dove praise Sheng Ruxi like that, Ayi Leta didn’t say anything. She just fixed her gaze on Jian Jixing, deep in thought.
After a while, she asked, “Is she your friend?”
Jian Jixing lowered her eyes: “A work partner.”
Ayi Leta paused for two seconds and then smiled: “Do you lie?”
“I’m not an actress; I don’t have to have acting skills,” Jian Jixing looked up and smiled. “She is a very serious person when it comes to her work.”
“Tata, where’s your leather pouch?” Little Dove looked curiously at Ayi Leta’s waist, where the pouch used to be. It was empty.
Ayi Leta didn’t answer. She just turned her gaze to the vast, moonlit grassland. “I think my other name sounds very nice.”
Little Dove mumbled, “Mother favors you. The name she gave you sounds much better!”
Ayi Leta was not of Han ethnicity, but her mother was, and the name she gave her was Shao Wangfeng.
Jian Jixing just listened to them chat. Little Dove asked curiously, “Sister Jixing, was your name also given by your mother? What does it mean?”
Jian Jixing’s hand paused for a moment: “It probably doesn’t have any special meaning.”
Unlike Ayi Leta, who was looking at the boundless grassland, she raised her head and looked at the cold, bright moon.
Sheng Ruxi opened the curtain, and this was the scene she saw.
She muttered, “Why is she like that…”
Sheng Ruxi often felt that she couldn’t understand Jian Jixing, and there were many times she didn’t understand Jian Jixing’s choices and actions.
But at this moment, she actually felt Jian Jixing’s emotions in that one instant.
Ayi Leta pondered for a moment: “Lonely star?”
Jian Jixing shrugged, not caring: “Maybe.”
But Sheng Ruxi remembered Jian Jixing’s nickname, “Rongrong,” which was a very nice name that immediately made you feel warm and cozy.
She was watching the time. Although she was very unhappy, she didn’t actually go to interfere with Jian Jixing’s social life.
She went back to bed and huddled up, not turning off the light.
Jian Jixing’s conversation was about to end. Ayi Leta saw the figure by the tent disappear and couldn’t help but smile: “Miss Sheng is quite interesting.”
Jian Jixing genuinely smiled this time: “Don’t tease her. Okay, go and rest.”
Little Dove also said, “Miss Sheng complained that she couldn’t sleep well these past few nights because of the wolf howling.”
But she couldn’t sleep well, and she didn’t even send her a message. What, was she not planning on bossing her slave around anymore?
For these three days, when they were working, they were like two people in a contest. Sheng Ruxi was testing how far she could cooperate with the work. And Jian Jixing was watching how far Sheng Ruxi could cooperate with her.
It turned out that Sheng Ruxi wouldn’t deliberately make things difficult just because she was the director.
At least, when she learned that they would be filming a scene on horseback, she didn’t refuse.
Unlike the gentle horses at a riding school, the horses on the grassland were not easy to handle, and they were using the local herders’ own horses, not the ones specifically rented to tourists.
So Jian Jixing specifically asked Ayi Leta to come over and be the instructor.
Her communication with Sheng Ruxi had always been minimal. Usually, she would learn about Sheng Ruxi’s small needs from Little Dove.
“Miss Sheng asked me today if it’s possible to have food delivery at the next location.”
Jian Jixing: “You tell her no.”
“Miss Sheng said today’s food wasn’t good. She doesn’t want to eat lamb; she wants to eat vegetables.”
Jian Jixing: “You tell her no.”
“Miss Sheng wants me to ask you if you have constipation.”
Jian Jixing: “No!”
Little Dove was tirelessly acting as a messenger between them.
After a while, Little Dove had become quite familiar with Sheng Ruxi.
Although Little Dove was young, she was very good at taking care of people and filled the void of not having a personal assistant for Sheng Ruxi.
Jian Jixing arrived outside Sheng Ruxi’s tent. The light inside the tent was conspicuously dimmer but not off.
“Asleep?”
There was no sound from inside. Jian Jixing deliberately waited for a moment in silence and then said, “Then I won’t disturb you. I’ll be leaving now.”
She stepped on a dry branch next to her, making a crisp crunching sound, and a voice finally came from inside:
“…You come in!”
Jian Jixing stepped inside, took off her shoes, and stepped onto the carpet: “I thought that without Little Dove to act as our phone, you wouldn’t be talking to me anymore.”
Sheng Ruxi stared at her silently, pouting as if she were sulking, “Who’s mad at you.”
Hm, saying she wasn’t mad with a face that screamed “I’m mad, come and comfort me” was indeed something Sheng Ruxi would do.
Jian Jixing: “Then what are you being awkward about?” You look like a puffed-up pufferfish.
Sheng Ruxi: “…”
When Jian Jixing hadn’t come, she wondered why she hadn’t. Now that she was here, she was still annoyed.
After Jian Jixing said that, Sheng Ruxi realized that she was especially prone to getting angry when she was with Jian Jixing.
She couldn’t find a reason, so she just concluded that she and Jian Jixing were naturally incompatible.
There was a faint scent of essential oil in the tent. It was locally produced peach blossom essential oil. The scent was natural, with no additives, but the air was filled with more than just the scent of peach blossoms.
Jian Jixing couldn’t help but look outside. It was a good thing everyone was in their own tents now, or else they would have smelled it.
The culprit seemed to be completely unaware that her pheromones had been released.
Sheng Ruxi was on the bed. Jian Jixing didn’t get too close but sat down on the side and casually said, “What are you doing up so late? Little Dove said you were looking for me.”
In fact, Little Dove had not said that at all.
Sheng Ruxi’s tone was direct and not very polite: “What’s the deal with you and that woman?”
“Want to know?” Jian Jixing slowly crossed her legs and sat comfortably: “Do I have an obligation to tell you?”
“Of course you do,” Sheng Ruxi narrowed her eyes, saying with righteous indignation. “Tell me. Is she the wind of freedom that kept you there that night?”
“Freedom, huh? Comfortable, huh? Did you forget you’re a married person?” Sheng Ruxi added.
Jian Jixing found it funny: “Sheng Ruxi, in your head, are these the only kinds of relationships a person can have?”
Sheng Ruxi heard Jian Jixing mocking her for saying that Jian Jixing only had the word “love” to film at the creative meeting, and her tone became more stubborn: “My mind is empty. This is all I can think about. So what?”
Jian Jixing shook her head slightly: “You’re really quite righteous about it.”
Sheng Ruxi rolled over, wrapped herself in the blanket, and made herself into a small mound.
In the end, it was Jian Jixing who spoke again: “She’s just a friend of mine. And she’s a Beta.”
Given Jian Jixing’s unique situation, she would indeed be more comfortable with a Beta.
After receiving Jian Jixing’s explanation, Sheng Ruxi rolled back over. Jian Jixing couldn’t help but find her childish actions amusing: “What’s wrong, really?”
“I can’t sleep,” Sheng Ruxi sighed. “It’s all because you lied to me about there being wolves outside, so now I can’t sleep at night. Look at these dark circles.”
Sheng Ruxi then sat up and leaned closer to Jian Jixing. She had been using the peach blossom essential oil for the past few days, and now her pheromones were overflowing. Her whole being was like a blooming peach blossom, full of life and warmth spilling over.
This completely unguarded appearance made Jian Jixing momentarily speechless. She completely forgot what she was going to say.
Beauty without flaws isn’t true beauty. The faint dark circles didn’t affect Sheng Ruxi’s beauty at all.
“It’s fine,” Jian Jixing said. “So what do you want?”
“So you have to take responsibility. You’re not allowed to leave until I’m sound asleep,” Sheng Ruxi commanded her. “You hear me, wife? This is your obligation.”
Jian Jixing asked, “What did you just call me?”
“Wife,” Sheng Ruxi said, narrowing her eyes and smiling. “Besides me, who else would dare to call you that?”
Jian Jixing no longer sat with her legs crossed. She straightened her upper body, scrutinized Sheng Ruxi for a moment, and then asked, “Do you like me?”
Why else would you say it so smoothly?
Sheng Ruxi said, “What do you think?”
Any sane person would know that’s impossible!
But Jian Jixing, as if she were blind, said, “I thought so too. You’re an Omega, after all. After being temporarily marked by me a few times, it’s natural for you to feel like you’re falling for an Alpha.”
Sheng Ruxi hit the thick blanket twice with a bang, bang: “Jian Jixing, what nonsense are you spouting! Are you already dreaming before midnight?”
The angrier she got, the more her pheromones fluctuated. Jian Jixing slowly took a deep breath, remaining calm.
Jian Jixing nodded: “So you don’t like me.”
“Of course!”
Jian Jixing smiled: “You don’t like me, yet you can comfortably call me your wife.”
Sheng Ruxi had already fallen into the trap. She looked at Jian Jixing and said, “That’s because my acting skills have always been amazing, you know that.”
Jian Jixing didn’t respond for a moment. After a pause, she said, “Now I have a deeper appreciation for it.”
Sheng Ruxi was a little smug, feeling that she had won this round against Jian Jixing. But for some reason, as she said these words, she felt an inexplicable sense of guilt.
Jian Jixing asked again, “Why were you secretly watching me ride a horse tonight?”
“Don’t be ridiculous. That wasn’t spying. I just wanted to go outside and happened to see it,” Sheng Ruxi stammered, her guilt turning into something tangible.
Thankfully, she had a contingency plan. She reacted in time, yawned, and said she was sleepy.
Jian Jixing didn’t argue with her anymore. She said very gently, “Then go to bed early, so you don’t hear wolves howling again.”
“I didn’t hear wolves howling tonight. I heard dogs,” Sheng Ruxi grumbled, but she lay down properly anyway.
Jian Jixing sat in front of the lamp, blocking the brightest part of the light. Sheng Ruxi pulled the blanket up to her chin and tucked it in tightly: “Don’t just sit there. Tell me a story.”
So many demands.
This was Jian Jixing’s weak point. She found it amusing that Sheng Ruxi was acting like a child. She casually searched for a bedtime story on her phone, changed the protagonist’s name to “Little Xi,” and began to read: “Little Xi from the bush post office was a little tired, a little lazy, and a little grumpy, so she decided to find a new helper to deliver her letters…”
Sheng Ruxi wasn’t really listening to the story Jian Jixing was telling. She was watching Jian Jixing.
Jian Jixing’s voice was very pleasant, with a deep, magnetic quality when she spoke softly. It was even very suitable for reading stories.
Just as she was about to fall into a dream, what Sheng Ruxi suddenly remembered was the scene of Jian Jixing looking up at the moon.
Jian Jixing. Jian Jixing.
Sheng Ruxi recited these three characters in her heart.
A lonely star? Not quite.
—She seemed more like the Morning Star.
After one story was finished, Jian Jixing found that Sheng Ruxi had fallen asleep on the pillow.
She just sat there quietly for a while, her gaze falling on the leather pouch by Sheng Ruxi’s pillow. A smile curved on her lips, and she lowered her voice to answer that question to herself again.
“It can’t be helped that you don’t like me,” Jian Jixing said softly. “Even if you don’t like me, we still have to be on the same household register, Sheng Ruxi.
