Chapter 30.1: Housewife 30
Shen Shuowen settled Tang Yiqing into his newly purchased luxury flat. He had been preparing this place for a long time, and now it lacked nothing.
By the time they arrived, it was already three in the morning. After he carried Tang Yiqing to the bed, the latter fell asleep almost immediately. Zhou Mo was placed right beside him.
Once everything was arranged, Shen Shuowen dialed Huo Wei’s number. It took a while before the call was picked up.
Huo Wei had clearly been jolted awake by the phone. His voice was raspy and thick with resentment. “Big brother, do you know what time it is?”
Shen Shuowen sat on the sofa in the living room. The cigarette in his hand quickly burned to the filter. He tapped the ash into the ashtray. “I need a favor.”
Huo Wei was still full of grievances. “Look at the time, look at the time! Can’t this wait until daylight?”
Shen Shuowen spoke flatly, “I can’t wait.”
Huo Wei’s voice paused. Rustling sounds came through the receiver as he seemed to sit up, his voice sounding more alert. “What could possibly make the great Young Master Shen unable to wait? Let’s hear it.”
“I want to do a paternity test,” Shen Shuowen’s voice hesitated for a second as he crushed the cigarette butt into the ashtray. “Between me and Shen Shanyu.”
There was a sudden silence on Huo Wei’s end, followed by a shocked “Huh?” and a sharp intake of breath as if he had just witnessed something explosive.
Shen Shuowen ignored his reaction. “I’ll have someone deliver the samples shortly. I want to see the results before nine o’clock.”
Huo Wei was shocked once more. “Wait, buddy, where am I supposed to run a test for you in the middle of the night? And that’s only six hours away…”
Before Huo Wei could finish, Shen Shuowen interrupted him. “Make it happen.”
With that, Shen Shuowen hung up. He sat quietly on the sofa, took a deep breath, and lit another cigarette, smoking it rapidly until a third of it was gone.
Gradually, the sky began to turn grey. Time ticked by, and soon the ashtray was overflowing with cigarette butts.
At that moment, his phone chimed. Shen Shuowen picked it up. The time displayed was 08:55. At the final moment, Huo Wei had sent the report.
Shen Shuowen unlocked the screen, his fingers trembling, and entered the message interface. An electronic report appeared on the screen.
He scanned down to the results column, and his gaze darkened.
Huo Wei: “What’s the situation? Why are you doing a paternity test with your brother’s child?”
Shen Shuowen didn’t reply. He put down his phone and walked into the kitchen.
If it wasn’t him, then so be it. It didn’t matter.
As long as Yiqing was his, it was enough. Shen Shanyu was still young; with proper education, there might still be a chance to change that stubborn temperament… as long as the boy could be good to Yiqing, that was enough.
When Tang Yiqing woke up, the sun was already high in the sky. He checked the time; it was ten o’clock. While he was still feeling dazed, a soft sensation pressed against his cheek. He looked over to see Zhou Mo smiling at him brightly. The little guy was very energetic; he must have been awake for a while.
“Where are we, Uncle Yiqing?” Zhou Mo asked. Everything felt unfamiliar to him upon waking.
But at least he saw Tang Yiqing. He hadn’t seen him for three days and had been terrified he would never see him again, but today, he saw him the moment he opened his eyes.
Tang Yiqing reached out to pinch the boy’s cheek, then leaned in for a kiss. “From now on, just call me Mommy.”
Zhou Mo’s eyes widened, his face filled with pleasant surprise. “Mommy…”
Tang Yiqing gave an affirmative hum, then got out of bed and led Zhou Mo out of the bedroom.
Stepping out, he caught the aroma of food. Following the scent, Tang Yiqing led Zhou Mo to the kitchen and saw Shen Shuowen’s back as he stood at the stove.
Several dishes were already set on the table, looking and smelling delicious. He hadn’t expected Shen Shuowen to know how to cook.
Shen Shuowen turned around upon hearing the movement and smiled. “Good morning.”
Seeing his relaxed smile, Tang Yiqing couldn’t help but smile back as he walked over. “Good morning. I didn’t know you could cook.”
Shen Shuowen said, “When I was studying in Country C, I couldn’t get used to the food there, so I tried making it myself. That’s how I learned.”
Tang Yiqing nodded as if understanding. “Do you need help?”
Shen Shuowen shook his head. “No need, it’s almost ready.”
Tang Yiqing stood beside him. He looked back at Zhou Mo, seeing the child already sitting obediently at the dining table, then looked back at Shen Shuowen.
He looked back and forth several times. The more he looked, the more they seemed alike, and the more his chest swelled with emotion, making his face flush.
Shen Shuowen looked at him, puzzled. “What is it?”
Tang Yiqing patted his arm. The truth was on the tip of his tongue; he couldn’t wait until after the meal to say it. “Come with me, I have something to tell you.”
Shen Shuowen turned off the gas, took off his apron, and followed Tang Yiqing into the bedroom.
Once they were inside, Tang Yiqing grabbed Shen Shuowen’s shirt and lifted it up. Shen Shuowen was startled; he had never seen Tang Yiqing act so boldly. Under Tang’s gaze, his muscles instinctively tensed.
Tang Yiqing’s gaze fell upon those handsome abdominal muscles. With the ample light in the room, the butterfly birthmark was fully visible, looking lifelike. Tang Yiqing raised his hand to touch it with his fingertips. Shen Shuowen’s muscles rippled; he couldn’t handle Tang Yiqing doing this. He caught Tang’s hand. “What’s wrong?”
Tang Yiqing looked up at him. Shen Shuowen’s eyes were bloodshot as if he hadn’t slept. Tang Yiqing’s eyelashes fluttered. “Was it you that night? Four years ago at the bar.”
Shen Shuowen’s gaze shook. He stared intently at Tang Yiqing. “You found out?”
Tang Yiqing was stunned. He hadn’t expected Shen Shuowen to say that, as if he already knew it was him that night.
Then he heard Shen Shuowen’s explanation. His voice was steady and calm as he quickly explained the cause and effect.
Tang Yiqing blinked. He realized that it was an inevitable result of a rut colliding with a heat cycle. So he didn’t blame him, nor did he blame him for not seeking him out afterward… because he had forgotten.
Shen Shuowen pulled Tang Yiqing into his arms. “I’m sorry for what happened. I will definitely make it up to you from now on.”
Tang Yiqing felt his nose sting. But this was an inevitable outcome; he had come to this world to play the protagonist of a tragic novel. Their missing each other was predestined. Now, he was no longer muddled and could live clearly.
He looked at Shen Shuowen’s sharp-featured face, his lips moving as he struggled with how to start, yet he desperately wanted to tell him: “Zhou Mo is the child of you and me.”
Shen Shuowen froze. His brain failed to process the information in Tang Yiqing’s words for a moment.
Tang Yiqing also realized his abrupt sentence was a bit explosive, so he instinctively grabbed the man’s wrist. “I’ll explain slowly. Just listen.”
He told him everything: how he found out he was pregnant shortly after that night, how the babies were swapped at birth, and the paternity test he had done a few days ago. He told him the whole story from beginning to end.
Shen Shuowen’s face showed no reaction, as if his mind was wandering, but the hand gripping Tang Yiqing’s wrist was trembling. “Is it true…”
“Yes, it’s true,” Tang Yiqing confirmed.
Tang Yiqing leaned against his chest and patted the back of his hand, but he felt a heartbeat thumping violently—so fast it proved how agitated Shen Shuowen was.
“Zhou Mo is our child…” Shen Shuowen said.
Tang Yiqing smiled and answered, “Yes, Zhou Mo is our child.”
After waiting for a long time without a further reaction, Tang Yiqing looked up and saw Shen Shuowen’s facial lines were taut, as if he were suppressing something. “What’s wrong?”
Shen Shuowen suddenly hugged him tightly. “Nothing. I’m just so happy.”
Shen Shuowen’s voice was tight, as if he were trying desperately to control his emotions. He whispered to himself, “Zhou Mo is our child.”
Tang Yiqing couldn’t help but laugh, confirming once more, “Yes, he is our child.”
Shen Shuowen hugged him even tighter. Tang Yiqing was starting to struggle for breath and had to pat his arm to tell him to loosen up.
After a long while, Shen Shuowen finally relaxed. “That night… I blacked out…”
Rarely, Shen Shuowen’s tone carried a hint of regret, as if he were blaming himself for not performing well his first time.
Tang Yiqing’s face turned red. That was when he had run out. He tried hard to recall the scene of that night. After running out of the private room, fearing he would be caught again, he ran forward desperately, but he was still caught. At that time, his mind was almost gone, and he didn’t see the other party’s face clearly. He only vaguely remembered being taken upstairs and pushed into a room, after which he remembered nothing.
The light in that room wasn’t on; it was very dark. He was already exhausted and lost consciousness as soon as he hit the bed.
“Why did you enter heat then?” Shen Shuowen was a bit puzzled. The nature of bars gave him bad suspicions.
Tang Yiqing thought about it too. “At that time, I just suddenly felt my body getting hot…”
As he thought, his tone became more certain. “I must have been drugged.”
Suddenly, as if hit by a flash of inspiration, he seized a thought. He carefully recalled that night four years ago, and the night recently when he was called to the bar…
The feeling was exactly the same!
He was definitely drugged. Shen Mingzheng always said he was the one who drugged him, but it was more likely that they were both drugged at the same time.
He had always thought he just entered a sudden heat. After all, who would drug both of them at once and lock them in the same room? No one had such a motive…
But what if it was a series of errors…? The feeling of being drugged was the same both times. That Alpha who was following closely behind him that night…
Someone wanted to ruin him.
He told his theory to Shen Shuowen, whose face darkened. “Give me some time. I will investigate what happened four years ago and the matter with the children.”
Tang Yiqing nodded. He believed in Shen Shuowen. Everything would be cleared up, and he wanted the truth as well.
Shen Zeqi returned home to find Tang Yiqing gone. His mother also blocked him from entering the instrument room on the fourth floor. Everything felt strange.
This day, he went up to the fourth floor again. He pressed the handle of the instrument room and found the door could be opened, meaning the lockdown had been lifted.
However, after entering, he felt something was wrong. The place was filled with the smell of disinfectant, but he could clearly detect an unusual scent.
He walked through every corner of the instrument room, then leaned over the equipment to sniff carefully.
He smelled Tang Yiqing’s scent. His hand stroked the cold surface of the table. It was Tang Yiqing’s scent; he must have sat here and left his scent behind… or perhaps sweat…
But mixed in was a faint scent of red wine. It felt familiar, reminding him of the wooden box Tang Yiqing kept as a treasure. Then he thought of his eldest brother—this was the Shen family’s instrument room, and only one person in the Shen family had red wine-scented pheromones.
This deduction seemed to clear his thoughts instantly, while at the same time, his chest swelled with a surge of fire. He seemed unable to control himself…
Turning around, he found his mother standing at the door. Lin Ruizhi looked at him and sighed. She knew she couldn’t hide it from Zeqi.
Currently, Shen Zeqi’s eyes were bloodshot. He almost staggered as he ran to Lin Ruizhi, his voice raspy and unpleasant. “Mother, Big Brother and Yiqing were here, weren’t they?”
Lin Ruizhi frowned, unable to speak the words, but Shen Zeqi already knew…
Shen Zeqi burst into loud laughter, tears even appearing in his eyes from laughing. “Who would have thought? I really didn’t expect this.”
“I was jumping up and down all day, only to be beaten to the punch by Big Brother. I’m a fucking idiot…”
Lin Ruizhi looked worried and grabbed Shen Zeqi’s arm. “Zeqi…”
Shen Zeqi’s body suddenly stiffened for a moment. Then, his pheromones began to leak out uncontrollably. His eyes were crimson, and blood even started trickling from his nose. He looked like a beast on the verge of madness.
Lin Ruizhi immediately called for Shen’s father and the villa’s security. Ultimately, Shen Zeqi was tied up and carried downstairs. His condition was getting worse.
As the elevator reached the first floor and the group carried Shen Zeqi out, Shen Mingzheng happened to return. He stopped at the sight.
He looked exhausted, with dark circles under his eyes, exuding an air of defeat. He couldn’t help but ask, “What’s going on?”
As soon as he spoke, Shen Zeqi began to struggle violently. He desperately lifted his head to look at Shen Mingzheng and began to laugh wildly. His face was distorted, and the sound was sharp and eerie.
Shen Mingzheng froze, not understanding what was wrong with Shen Zeqi. He looked at Lin Ruizhi. “Mother, what’s wrong with Zeqi? What is he laughing at?”
Lin Ruizhi glanced at him and answered briefly, “Nothing. His pheromones suddenly went out of control.”
Then Lin Ruizhi hurriedly followed the car out. Shen Mingzheng couldn’t help but recall Shen Zeqi’s laughter; it looked as if he were laughing at him…
He turned and went upstairs. Passing Tang Yiqing’s room, he pushed the door open to look inside. It was still the same as before, but Tang Yiqing was nowhere to be seen.
He had been checking every day for the past few days. He hoped that the moment he pushed the door open, he would see Tang Yiqing. But every time he saw no one inside, his heart sank. A sense of loss washed over him, leaving him without the strength to do anything else.
He went back to his own room. Wine bottles almost covered the table. Expressionlessly, he pulled out another bottle of vodka. The high-concentration alcohol poured into his mouth, burning down his throat like fire, making him feel slightly better.
Recalling that night, he clearly wanted to keep Tang Yiqing, but he had done that kind of thing. Now Tang Yiqing was too afraid to return…
Thinking of this, Shen Mingzheng slapped himself. Was his brain muddled then? Yet he could clearly remember his thoughts at the time: he truly thought that if he gave Tang Yiqing a permanent mark, he would never leave him again.
And now… Shen Mingzheng poured more wine into his mouth. He couldn’t do those absurd things anymore; that would only drive Tang Yiqing away!
He was tragically wrong. Tang Yiqing was right to call him a beast.
The alcohol numbed his brain. He lay on the bed like a corpse, images of Tang Yiqing involuntarily floating in his mind.
When they were in school, Tang Yiqing’s figure would always appear near him. Even though they weren’t in the same school, Tang Yiqing managed to hover around him.
Back then, Tang Yiqing was very green. His face would flush when talking to him. At the time, he only thought the person was easily embarrassed and boring.
But gradually, he allowed Tang Yiqing to enter their circle, until graduation, when that incident happened…
He had been furious, almost wanting to kill him, but ultimately chose to ignore him and forbade him from appearing before his eyes. But not long after, he brought a pregnancy report.
What did he do then? He humiliated him in every way, even making him go for a “Certificate of First Sexual Encounter”—a highly embarrassing examination usually performed after intercourse to prove to a partner that it was their first time.
But even so, it didn’t shake Tang Yiqing’s determination to marry into the Shen family. He truly loved him, didn’t he…?
He truly wanted nothing; he only wanted him. But now he had fled, taking nothing with him. The wedding ring and wedding photos were all still in the room.
Figures of Tang Yiqing kept flashing through his mind: his figure busy in the kitchen, the way he handed him his tie, the way he held the child wanting to be close to him…
In his memories, the light falling on Tang Yiqing was always clear and bright, making his whole being exude tenderness.
But the end of the memory was Tang Yiqing’s cold eyes and indifferent expression. He said he no longer loved him. Every time he thought of the way Tang looked at him, his heart would contract. Yet like a form of self-torture, the scene replayed in his mind constantly.
