Chapter 27: Housewife 27
The living room fell silent, save for the sound of hurried, ragged breathing.
Tang Yiqing held Zhou Mo tightly. He had just barely maintained a shred of rationality, yet he had still managed to slap Shen Mingzheng.
Over the past two days, he felt as if he had become a different person—someone who would get into conflicts, someone who would even strike another person…
Even he felt like a stranger to himself. An S-class Alpha, especially one with a temper as bad as Shen Mingzheng’s and who had treated him so poorly, was someone Tang Yiqing felt a bit of lingering fear toward now. Yet, he believed Shen Mingzheng deserved that slap. He did not regret it.
“You hit me… No one except my parents has ever dared to hit me.” Shen Mingzheng was truly stunned by the blow and dazed by Tang Yiqing’s scolding. As he processed what happened, he still felt a sense of disbelief. He stepped closer to Tang Yiqing. “A beast?”
He truly didn’t believe he had done anything that could be labeled “beastly.” This… this was far too severe a word…
Tang Yiqing stood up while holding Zhou Mo. He watched the approaching Alpha and stepped back warily. He could sense Shen Mingzheng’s agitation, which stemmed from the instability of his pheromones.
Usually, he rarely smelled Shen Mingzheng’s pheromones because the man’s state was extremely stable. All three of the Shen children were S-class Alphas, but only Shen Mingzheng’s pheromones had never suffered from any kind of disorder—of course, that was also thanks to He Chenguang.
But right now, Shen Mingzheng’s pheromones were leaking out uncontrollably. It was the cedar scent common among Alphas—a scent that consistently ranked in the top three of Omega’s favorite pheromones. But at this moment, Tang Yiqing felt a deep repulsion. Because these were Shen Mingzheng’s pheromones, everything about him now elicited a psychological disgust.
“What are you hiding for!” Shen Mingzheng’s expression was gloomy. Seeing Tang Yiqing look at him with such vigilance and defensiveness, his heart felt as if it were being roasted over a fire. What had happened to Tang Yiqing lately? He was never like this before; he used to wish he could be closer to him, to be intimate with him!
“You… don’t come any closer,” Tang Yiqing said, his heart pounding. The servants nearby sensed something was wrong and began to approach, seemingly wanting to prevent a conflict.
At that moment, the sound of footsteps echoed through the first-floor hall—fast footsteps, and many of them.
Soon, Tang Yiqing saw Shen’s father and mother, Shen Shuowen, and Shen Zeqi. They appeared to have returned from the company together, all dressed in formal suits, looking rigorous and sharp.
Today was originally supposed to be the day the parents decided to officially hand over power and distribute the family industries among their sons. They were in the middle of the meeting when the hot search incident broke out.
While they were busy dealing with the public relations crisis, Shen Mingzheng had returned home early.
It was all too easy to distinguish whose responsibility this PR crisis was. Shen’s father had always been a man as steady as a mountain, but the moment he walked in and saw Shen Mingzheng, he rushed forward and delivered a slap.
An S-class slap was not something an Omega could compare with. Blood immediately seeped from the corner of Shen Mingzheng’s mouth. “You idiot! It’s one thing to mess around, but to leave traces in the media and find an Omega like that—you are truly stupid!”
The atmosphere in the hall was cold and tense. No one dared to stop the father from disciplining his son.
Then Mother Shen spoke, looking at Tang Yiqing with a hint of reproach. “Yiqing, you were too impulsive. You should have consulted us.”
Tang Yiqing pursed his lips and remained silent. The deed was done; he would just listen to whatever they had to say.
“Mom, why are you scolding Yiqing?” Shen Zeqi spoke up. He walked over to Tang Yiqing’s side and reached out to tease the child in his arms. The suffocating atmosphere seemed to lighten because of him. “With someone like Mingzheng, who almost let Shanyu acknowledge a mistress as a mother, it’s already a miracle Yiqing hasn’t had a mental breakdown after all these years.”
Shen Zeqi winked at Tang Yiqing. While pinching Zhou Mo’s arm, he sneakily gave Tang Yiqing’s arm a squeeze as well.
“Didn’t I say this long ago? I mentioned this more than once, but none of you took it seriously. Now look, you’ve gone and triggered a massive disaster,” Shen Zeqi said, his tone carrying a hint of mockery, as if the family in trouble wasn’t his own.
Shen’s father’s face turned red with rage. “His brain is no good, but is yours any better? Look at you, acting crazy all day long. That’s your brother’s wife—have you no sense of shame or propriety!”
Shen Zeqi was immediately displeased. “If we’re talking about Mingzheng’s mess, then talk about Mingzheng. Why are you attacking me? And let me say it again: Yiqing is single now. He’s not my ‘brother’s wife’.”
Shen Mingzheng’s face was also flushed with anger, but with his father standing right there, he didn’t dare talk back. He felt as if the fire inside him was burning him up—suppressed, suffocating, with no outlet. He could feel it himself: his current state was impossible to stabilize.
He took a deep, silent breath, clenching his fists to control the turbulent emotions and energy surging within him.
Shen’s father was nearly driven to a faint by Shen Zeqi’s words. Fortunately, Mother Shen was there to support him, rubbing his back to help him catch his breath.
“You rebellious son! From now on, shut your mouth!” the father barked.
In truth, they had always spoiled this second son the most. They had thought he would be their last child, only for another to come along later.
Shen Zeqi had been talkative since he was a child, and they never took it seriously. By the time they realized the problem, it was too late. Not only was he talkative, but he was also venomous, capable of provoking people to death.
He had developed this lawless personality, and yet his health was poor; they couldn’t hit him, and if they scolded him, he would just talk back.
Shen Zeqi shut up. Shen’s father coughed a few times, looked at Shen Mingzheng, and sighed. “Seeing you like this, I truly doubt your capability. You’re suspended from your duties for now. We’ll discuss your share of the stocks later.”
Shen Mingzheng snapped his head up, looking at his father, his voice trembling slightly. “Dad, I’ll handle it!”
At this point, Shen Shuowen spoke up. “Dad, suspension is a bit severe. Mingzheng did make a mistake, but it’s in his private life. Things have turned so ugly between him and Yiqing that there’s no possibility of a reconciliation. Fortunately, they are already divorced, so let them part ways amicably. Once he has sorted out his personal life, he can continue his duties. After all, his professional competence is not in question.”
“Let him focus his energy on work; that way, he’ll have less time for chasing after other people.”
Shen Mingzheng’s expression shifted from relief to shock. He knew his elder brother wanted to protect his position, but… but he said to part ways with Tang Yiqing amicably…
That feeling of panic grew even stronger. He had previously thought everything would go as he intended, that he could do as he pleased regarding his relationship with Tang Yiqing, and that Tang would always be influenced by him.
But today’s events made him feel as if he had suddenly jolted awake from a dream. Had he and Tang Yiqing really reached this point… needing to “part ways amicably”…?
Tang Yiqing stood outside the center of the group, watching the family. Suddenly, the system in his mind chimed.
Satisfactory Level +5
Tang Yiqing was puzzled. Why the sudden increase? He looked at Shen Mingzheng, and just as he was wondering what the man was thinking, a high concentration of cedar-scented pheromones suddenly dispersed.
Tang Yiqing was startled for a moment, and then he felt himself being affected. His glands began to heat up. Beside him, Shen Zeqi seemed even more affected; the scent of honeyed peach began to spread around him.
“Shen Mingzheng! Restrain your pheromones!” Shen’s father roared.
Shen Mingzheng’s pheromones had gone out of control.
The one most affected was actually Shen Zeqi. The group hurried up to the fourth floor, and the criticism session for Shen Mingzheng ended abruptly.
Ultimately, Shen Zeqi was taken away by a car. Shen Mingzheng’s symptoms were milder, and he remained on the fourth floor for observation.
Tang Yiqing returned to his room. The bracelet on his wrist glowed with a faint red light, showing a numerical value approaching the threshold for heat.
He steadied himself, and after a good while, he managed to suppress the restlessness in his body, watching the red light on his wrist slowly fade.
Fortunately, he had left quickly and wasn’t continuously affected. It was also lucky that he had been marked during his previous heat and had been comforted by Shen Shuowen’s pheromones over the last two days; otherwise, he might have been induced into heat.
In his own room, he finally relaxed. Zhou Mo was clearly frightened by the scene tonight and looked a bit dazed. Tang Yiqing knelt down and hugged him tightly. He took a deep breath—Zhou Mo had that pleasant “child” scent. He murmured to himself, “This time, no one can take you away.”
“Momo, shall we take a bath together?” Tang Yiqing smiled gently.
Looking at the gentle face before him, Zhou Mo finally relaxed. He hugged Tang Yiqing back. “Okay.”
In the bathroom, steam filled the air. The bathtub was huge, more than enough for one adult and one child. Several rubber ducks floated on the bubbly water. Both of them had stray bubbles on their faces.
Tang Yiqing held Zhou Mo under the armpits and sat the child on his lap. He bent his legs, and Zhou Mo slid down his thighs, making Tang Yiqing catch his small body, which made Zhou Mo giggle uncontrollably.
Tang Yiqing pinched his little cheek. “Momo, call me Mommy.”
Looking at the infinitely gentle person in front of him, Zhou Mo suddenly covered his eyes shyly, his cheeks turning bright red. Tang Yiqing gently moved his small hands away. “Momo, call me Mommy.”
“Mommy,” Zhou Mo grinned and giggled, excitedly bouncing a couple of times on Tang Yiqing’s lap. “Mommy.”
Zhou Mo wrapped his arms around Tang Yiqing’s neck and gave him a heavy kiss on the cheek. “Mommy.”
Tang Yiqing’s nose felt itchy with tears. He stroked Zhou Mo’s head. “What a good baby.”
When Tang Yiqing carried Zhou Mo out of the bathroom, both of them carried the same scent of shower gel. He placed Zhou Mo on the bed and pulled the covers over him.
Zhou Mo’s eyes could hardly stay open. Before Tang Yiqing could even start a bedtime story, he had fallen asleep.
Tang Yiqing’s hand gently patted him rhythmically. Looking at the sweet sleeping face of the little boy, he finally felt a sense of peace and groundedness at this moment.
The night was deep. Tang Yiqing was about to sleep as well—this time, he could sleep while holding a fragrant, well-behaved baby who belonged entirely to him.
However, a knock sounded at the door. It was very light, as if asking if he was asleep.
Tang Yiqing got up from the bed. He recognized this knock; it was Shen Shuowen. If he didn’t respond, Shen Shuowen would assume he was asleep and simply leave.
But having been affected by Shen Mingzheng’s pheromones today, he now needed Shen Shuowen’s pheromones to comfort him.
The scent of red wine was the fragrance he loved.
The next morning, Tang Yiqing noticed that both Shen Mingzheng and Shen Zeqi were absent from breakfast. Shen Zeqi’s condition was more serious; he was already being treated for pheromone instability, and this sudden incident likely meant he’d be hospitalized for a while. As for Shen Mingzheng, he should still be on the fourth floor.
After the two children were sent to kindergarten, Tang Yiqing returned to the second floor. He stood before the door to Shen Mingzheng’s room and pushed it open.
When he did the paternity test before, he had been in too much of a hurry and hadn’t considered everything. This time, he was going to do them for Shen Mingzheng, Shen Shanyu, and Zhou Mo all at once.
He wanted to obtain the evidence and expose Shen Mingzheng’s crimes.
