Chapter 25.2: Housewife 25
He Chenguang’s words echoed in his mind once more. Tang Yiqing tightened his hold on Zhou Mo.
Why was He Chenguang so indulgent toward Shen Shanyu while being so harsh and cold toward Zhou Mo, her supposed biological son?
Suddenly, everything seemed to make sense. Back when he and He Chenguang were admitted to the same hospital, Shen Mingzheng hadn’t visited him even once. Later, he learned that Shen Mingzheng had spent all his time in He Chenguang’s room, taking meticulous care of her.
Tang Yiqing had been through the baptism of “dog-blood” tragedy novels. Now that he had transmigrated into a tragic novel world himself, what was there left to be confused about? Switched at birth, fake heirs… it was a classic trope.
But when it actually happened to him, he realized how truly absurd it felt.
He looked at the child in his arms and reached out to stroke his face. No wonder he had felt such a strong connection from the very first moment they met.
Is it really true…?
Zhou Mo looked at Tang Yiqing’s deathly pale face and raised a small hand to gently touch his cheek. “Uncle Yiqing, are you feeling unwell…?”
Tang Yiqing picked the child up, a look of determination in his eyes. Regardless of what lay ahead, he was going to uncover the truth. He had a premonition, and his intuition was usually unerring.
He Chenguang returned to the villa carrying Shen Shanyu. Initially, he had been paralyzed by fear, but a new spark of resolve had flared up. These injuries on his face were the perfect tools to make a scene—and he even had Shen Shanyu as a little witness.
However, as soon as he stepped into the villa, he saw Shen’s father and mother sitting on the sofa, dressed in black. They looked dignified and cold. Their sideways glances carried a lethal, bloodless chill. Their overwhelming presence made He Chenguang’s heart turn cold; his grip on Shen Shanyu loosened, and he set the boy down.
He Chenguang instinctively smoothed his clothes, only to remember that his face was currently swollen beyond recognition—hardly a fit state to meet people.
Shen’s parents looked indifferent, appearing as though they couldn’t even be bothered to spare him a second glance. They ignored him completely. The atmosphere was so frigid that even Shen Shanyu sensed it. Seeing his grandparents whom he hadn’t seen for a long time, he didn’t even dare to step forward.
Footsteps echoed from upstairs. It was breakfast time. This mealtime had been set by Mother Shen; when the time came, the whole family gathered at the table. Whether anyone liked it or not, this had become the family’s ingrained routine over the years.
Soon, everyone was down. Seeing the parents back, they all stepped forward to greet them. However, Shen’s parents remained distant and cold, the atmospheric pressure extremely low. The younger generation stood to the side, silent.
At this point, Tang Yiqing entered carrying Zhou Mo and saw the scene.
He put Zhou Mo down and led him to stand before the parents. “Dad, Mom, you’re back.”
Mother Shen’s expression softened slightly, and she nodded to him. “Yiqing, sit down and rest.”
Tang Yiqing didn’t sit but stood to the side. Only then did Mother Shen stand up and walk toward Shen Mingzheng.
Shen Mingzheng held his breath slightly. He had realized upon waking that He Chenguang and Shen Shanyu were missing; he called only to find He Chenguang had left her phone behind. Upon coming down, he found his parents had returned, and he realized the gravity of the situation.
Mother Shen raised her hand and—slap—struck Shen Mingzheng across the face. It was a solid blow that left his face red instantly.
“Shen Mingzheng, you have disappointed me too much!” Mother Shen said, clearly incensed. “Look at what a mess you’ve made of this family!”
Growing up, the words the Shen children feared most were Mother Shen’s “You have disappointed me.” Shen Mingzheng’s heart trembled; he pursed his thin lips and said nothing.
“Who gave you permission to divorce?” Mother Shen said, her aura at this moment not at all inferior to those S-rank Alphas. “What did you plan to do after the divorce? Marry that… thing into our house?”
Mother Shen didn’t even turn around; she simply pointed at He Chenguang near the door, treating him as though he weren’t even a human being.
He Chenguang’s eyes flickered with shock. He looked at Shen Mingzheng, staring at him intently.
Shen Mingzheng did not look back. He simply said, “I wouldn’t.”
In that instant, it was as if all strength left He Chenguang. Would Shen Mingzheng really not marry me…?
At that moment, his tears fell like rain.
His body was stiff, his hands and feet cold. But just then, he felt a small, warm, soft hand touching his.
He looked down to see little Zhou Mo. The boy’s eyes were red, looking as though he were about to cry. He looked timidly at He Chenguang, staring at his face—he realized his mommy had received such a heavy punishment.
“Mommy…” he whispered.
He Chenguang’s eyes were full of tears. His pupils constricted as he stared at Zhou Mo. Scared by this look, Zhou Mo took a step back.
At this moment, He Chenguang felt hatred, yet it was tinged with desolation. In the end, the only person who cared about him was Zhou Mo.
Some people evoke a deep-seated disgust just by being near you. To He Chenguang, Zhou Mo had been such a presence since birth—someone he simply couldn’t bring himself to like. Whether the boy cried or laughed, was well-behaved or tried to please him, his mere existence caused He Chenguang revulsion.
He Chenguang’s heart stung with both hate and bitterness. Everything had gone against his wishes. He couldn’t turn back, and he didn’t want to!
Zhou Mo’s little face was pale with fear. He had always been afraid of He Chenguang, and he would tremble in his presence. Now, he let go of his hand and slumped to the floor.
“Momo, come, Mommy will hold you.” He Chenguang tried to smile gently, but his face, pulled by the corners of his mouth, looked horribly distorted and hideous.
Zhou Mo was so scared he wanted to run away. He felt terrified. Just then, Tang Yiqing came over and picked the child up. His attention had been on Mother Shen and Shen Mingzheng until that moment.
He Chenguang tried to block him, but he was stopped by someone, causing his face to fill with dread. He looked at the Alpha beside him. Shen Zeqi held a finger to his lips. “Shh.”
Tang Yiqing, holding the child, was full of heartache. He stroked Zhou Mo’s back. “Momo, stay with me, okay? Stay with me.”
Tang Yiqing’s voice was very soft, very gentle, and very earnest. Zhou Mo looked back at He Chenguang once more, then slowly wrapped his arms around Tang Yiqing’s neck.
Meanwhile, the conversation between Mother Shen and Shen Mingzheng was nearing its end. “It’s good that you know. I believe you should know what to do.”
Shen Mingzheng let out a deep sigh. In truth, these past few days of fighting with Tang Yiqing had left him exhausted. He had intended to end all of this today anyway.
He looked at the weeping He Chenguang. “I’ll take you back.”
Watching this grand drama unfold, Tang Yiqing felt no waves in his heart. He held Zhou Mo tightly. “Wait. Zhou Mo stays.”
As the words fell, everyone looked toward Tang Yiqing, not understanding why he wanted to keep He Chenguang’s child.
“I have a connection with this child. I like him very much,” Tang Yiqing said.
Before anyone could react to the reasoning, He Chenguang spoke. His eyes were wide and bloodshot, tears still flowing. “No! That’s my child! On what grounds can you keep him just because you like him!”
Tang Yiqing looked at him. He tried his best to maintain a calm expression, but his eyes were still somewhat red.
At this moment, he suddenly felt very tired, but he had to hold his breath and keep going. He forced a smile, putting on an act of revenge. “You often took care of Shanyu and even let him sleep with you after moving into the Shen house. Why can’t I keep Zhou Mo? I also want to taste what it’s like to coax someone else’s well-behaved child.”
He Chenguang froze. He looked at Shen Mingzheng and cried, “Mingzheng, you can’t.”
Shen Mingzheng couldn’t bear to look at him. He walked up to Tang Yiqing. “Yiqing, stop making a scene.”
“I’m not making a scene. I’m serious,” Tang Yiqing said. He looked straight at Shen Mingzheng and said firmly, “I must keep Zhou Mo today. Just tell me: will you allow it or not?”
Tang Yiqing’s voice rang out with authority. Shen Mingzheng’s heart was shaken. He looked into Tang Yiqing’s eyes and felt a faint sense of unease. He had never seen Tang Yiqing look at him with such coldness… no, it could be described as ruthless, even hateful.
This startled Shen Mingzheng. Even before he understood why, he already felt panicked.
The atmosphere reached a stalemate. Shen Shanyu was also terrified. Hearing Tang Yiqing say that, he couldn’t help but start crying. Tang Yiqing wanted Zhou Mo; he said Zhou Mo was a good boy… did that mean he didn’t want Shanyu anymore…?
He turned to the adults for help, but none of them responded. He walked to his grandmother and cautiously touched her hand. She looked down at him with such a distant, cold expression that it terrified him.
Mother Shen looked at the child before her with cold, indifferent eyes, even showing a hint of disdain. This child couldn’t even distinguish who his real mother was; he was truly stupid to the core. The Shen family could not have someone so foolish.
Shen Mingzheng was also stupid enough to pull a stunt like bringing a mistress home and letting his child acknowledge a “homewrecker.” It was beyond idiotic. She once again regretted it; she should have aborted him the moment she knew he was an Alpha!
She had always wanted an Omega. How could a family of Alphas ever be harmonious? They were born lacking empathy—cold and selfish. How could they ever create a peaceful home?
And now, not only were they cold-blooded, but they were also incredibly foolish. This was what she could tolerate least. The glory and reputation of the Shen family would sooner or later be squandered by these fools!
Shen Shanyu’s crying grew louder, but no one paid him any mind.
Then Shen Mingzheng spoke. “I find it reasonable. Let Zhou Mo stay.”
Shen Zeqi was right in front of He Chenguang. He mocked in a low voice, “Didn’t you realize when you entered the Shen house? Not only can your child stay, but you could stay too. No one would find you. We could strip you bare and lock you in the backyard with my black panther. That’s also an option.”
He Chenguang recoiled. Then he heard Shen Zeqi’s disgusted voice: “Look at your face, swollen like a pig’s head. Aren’t you afraid of offending everyone’s eyes? You were hit, weren’t you? Served you right…”
He Chenguang felt a metallic taste in his chest. He stared at Shen Mingzheng. Only now did he realize that coming to the Shen house was an act of self-humiliation. Shen Mingzheng wouldn’t marry him; his efforts were in vain. What he had fought for was nothing but an insult—and even his child had to stay behind.
Tang Yiqing was telling him that as long as he wanted, he could take everything, even the child. This was the true lesson. Compared to a few slaps, this humiliation was a hundred times, a thousand times worse!
Tang Yiqing, oh Tang Yiqing, you play the honest person so well that even I was fooled. He Chenguang’s nose bled. He looked at Tang Yiqing and let out a bizarre laugh.
On the cold marble floor, footsteps rang out. Shen Mingzheng paced back and forth twice. Finally, as if he truly had no other choice, he made the decision: “Fine. Let him stay.”
In truth, not only did He Chenguang think so, but the others in the Shen family thought so as well. If Tang Yiqing wanted to vent his frustration, they would let him.
Shen Mingzheng reached out and pressed Tang Yiqing’s shoulder. He truly wanted to ease the tension between them now. “Everything as you wish, alright?”
For He Chenguang, this was the true blow to the heart.
Tang Yiqing didn’t respond to Shen Mingzheng. He picked up the child and turned to go upstairs.
The system’s voice rang out in his head:
