Chapter 24: Housewife 24
Night, three days later.
Tang Yiqing had just coaxed Zhou Mo to sleep. In the brief moment he went downstairs to pour a glass of water, he was entangled.
Just as he stepped out of the kitchen, he saw Shen Mingzheng smoking by the window. The light was dim, offering only a blurry silhouette. He didn’t linger, intending to head straight upstairs with his water glass, but he was called to a halt.
“Yiqing,” Shen Mingzheng walked over. His voice was deep and carried a hint of hoarseness. “You haven’t had it easy these past few days either, have you?”
Tang Yiqing actually gave it some thought. He really hadn’t been “uncomfortable,” he just felt bad for Zhou Mo.
According to the plot, after Shen Mingzheng’s series of maneuvers, Tang Yiqing’s heart should be completely dead. He wouldn’t have much of a reaction; instead, he would see Shen Mingzheng clearly, laying the foreshadowing for the later “chasing the wife” arc.
Prompted by Shen Mingzheng’s words, Tang Yiqing specifically asked 456, “It’s been less than a week since the divorce. What is Shen Mingzheng’s current psychological state?”
456 went online immediately, diligently playing the part of a little servant system. “Answering Host: I cannot detect specific psychological states. However, based on the current system progress, Shen Mingzheng will soon begin chasing his wife. As for his current state, he might be starting to feel a tiny bit of regret.”
Tang Yiqing understood. This was faster than he imagined, though based on his personal experience, Shen Mingzheng didn’t show a single trace of regret.
In fact, over the last few days, he had watched Shen Mingzheng and He Chenguang perform in sync, accompanied by Shen Shanyu—acting entirely like a family of three.
He regrets? What does he regret? Is it because He Chenguang’s child is always crying? Because he can’t soothe the child? Does he think He Chenguang isn’t a good mother? Or is he tired of He Chenguang?
He looked at the man before him—the same man who had staged an act of sweet intimacy with He Chenguang and Shen Shanyu during the day, yet was now standing in front of him with a face full of solemnity.
“What do you mean?” Tang Yiqing asked.
Shen Mingzheng’s brow furrowed for an instant. Tang Yiqing’s cold indifference made him feel very uncomfortable.
Just as Shen Mingzheng was about to speak again, someone walked toward them, causing Shen Mingzheng’s face to collapse instantly.
That person, of course, was Shen Zeqi. “What are you two chatting about?”
Tang Yiqing looked over. Just as he was about to say it was nothing, his phone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket; the screen displayed an incoming call from “Huo Wei.”
Tang Yiqing’s heart skipped a beat. He instinctively glanced at the two men beside him. Fortunately, they hadn’t noticed. He took two steps away and answered.
“Hello,” Tang Yiqing lowered his voice, instinctively covering the receiver. “Why are you calling?”
A call from Huo Wei could only be about Shen Shuowen. He was concerned and anxious, but he didn’t dare show it right now.
Huo Wei’s voice sounded frantic on the other end. “Shuowen was supposed to stay with me for at least another three days, but I just found out he left without saying a word! His body hasn’t fully recovered yet!”
Tang Yiqing’s expression changed. “When did he leave?”
Although Shen Shuowen wasn’t someone one usually needed to worry about, Tang still blamed him in his heart for not knowing how to cherish his own health.
“It must have been a while ago. I just finished a surgery and went back to find him gone. His phone is off,” Huo Wei said. “He probably went home. Take care of him. His pheromone state is still unstable; soothe him when necessary!”
Huo Wei spoke with great gravity. Tang Yiqing didn’t hesitate. “Understood.”
The call ended. Tang Yiqing was worried, and then his shoulder grew heavy—Shen Zeqi had wrapped an arm around him. “Whose call was that? You even had to hide from me to take it.”
Tang Yiqing shook his head. “My doctor. It’s nothing.”
Shen Zeqi leaned closer to Tang Yiqing. “You don’t look well. Is there a problem?”
Seeing the two in a state of easy intimacy, Shen Mingzheng instinctively clenched his fists. The accumulated fire in his chest had been suppressed for a long time, unable to find an outlet.
However, hearing what Shen Zeqi said, he couldn’t help but lean in too, wanting to hear if something was wrong with Tang Yiqing’s health.
Tang Yiqing forced a stiff smile. “I’m fine, don’t worry.”
“Yiqing, I have something I need to talk to you about,” Shen Mingzheng said seriously.
Shen Zeqi pulled Tang Yiqing tighter, even provocatively pecking Tang Yiqing’s cheek. “It’s so late. What could you possibly want to say to my wife?”
Tang Yiqing was worried about Shen Shuowen and had no heart to participate in the current dispute. Shen Mingzheng clenched his fists, once again enduring the urge to punch Shen Zeqi in the face.
In fact, over the last few days, he had almost gotten used to enduring. The anger was entirely bottled up in his stomach, and his internal organs often felt a burning sensation. He was about to speak, but he didn’t have the chance. After Shen Zeqi’s words “talk to my wife” fell, the next second, the villa was flooded with bright light.
The villa’s night lighting was usually dim and comfortable; the sudden brightness made them squint.
The sound of footsteps rang out on the marble floor, approaching step by step. When they looked over, they saw Shen Shuowen walking toward them with a face like frost.
Their hearts shook. Shen Shuowen was usually serious, but his current state was clearly wrong—he looked enraged.
The scent of red wine pheromones hit them with a crushing pressure, pinning them in place.
“You called him ‘wife’?” Shen Shuowen spoke, looking at Shen Zeqi.
Shen Zeqi’s face turned slightly pale, but he still said in a light tone, “Big Brother, you already know. Yiqing is single now. It’s fair competition for everyone.”
Shen Shuowen’s dark eyes swept past Shen Zeqi and landed on Tang Yiqing. Tang Yiqing felt his scalp go numb. He instinctively ducked out of Shen Zeqi’s arm and lowered his head, not daring to look at Shen Shuowen.
Shen Shuowen didn’t make a sound. Finally, his gaze fell on Shen Mingzheng. “How many days has it been since you went to the office?”
Shen Mingzheng’s heart tightened, his face turning pale. “I…”
“If you wish to give up your position and power in the company, I will approve it,” Shen Shuowen said.
Shen Mingzheng didn’t dare breathe loudly and said nothing.
“Also,” Shen Shuowen’s voice paused. “From now on, I don’t want to see anyone here who shouldn’t be here.”
Shen Mingzheng’s face tensed; he knew exactly who was being referred to. “I understand.”
Tang Yiqing faintly held his breath. This was the first time he had seen Shen Shuowen like this. Usually, though he didn’t smile, he was gentle and took care of him. He had never seen this side of him—so oppressive it was chilling.
Is this an S-rank Alpha? In the S-rank domain, it is absolute dominance.
At this moment, he looked up slightly to observe the situation. He was a bit afraid of this version of Shen Shuowen, but as luck would have it, he met those dark eyes.
Shen Shuowen spoke, “Yiqing, come with me for a chat.”
Tang Yiqing froze, his face then heating up. Asking him to chat right in front of Shen Zeqi and Shen Mingzheng…?
He felt Shen Zeqi and Shen Mingzheng watching him as he walked toward Shen Shuowen step by step.
Those gazes made Tang Yiqing’s face burn. He was led into a guest room on the first floor by Shen Shuowen.
Once inside the room, Tang Yiqing felt a bit lost. It was very quiet. Shen Shuowen stood before him, and they could hear each other’s breathing.
“Yiqing, have you fallen for Zeqi?” Shen Shuowen asked.
Tang Yiqing looked at Shen Shuowen in surprise. Meeting Shen Shuowen’s deep eyes, he noticed the man looked unwell, his eyes faintly red, as if hiding disappointment and sadness.
“No…” Tang Yiqing whispered. He was confused and instinctively denied it in front of Shen Shuowen.
Shen Shuowen remained silent for a moment. Instead of getting angry, he let out a soft chuckle. “Zeqi was right about one thing. You are single now. Anyone can pursue you.”
There was no reproach. Shen Shuowen was simply stating a fact. Falling in love with Tang Yiqing was an easy thing. The fact that they were brothers wouldn’t sever the connection; on the contrary, because of their shared blood and genes, they often liked the same things—people included.
“Yiqing,” the name lingered on Shen Shuowen’s tongue as he sighed. “You like my pheromones very much, don’t you? Then, can I pursue you as well?”
The competition was too fierce now. He had to abandon his previous plan of taking things slowly. Since Tang didn’t resist Shen Zeqi’s touch, it meant his feelings for Shen Mingzheng had completely loosened.
Tang Yiqing was stunned, his head feeling dizzy. He looked at the tall Alpha before him, momentarily dazed. So… the ambiguity that had lingered between them… was not an illusion at all?
His face turned bright red. He didn’t dare meet Shen Shuowen’s burning gaze. He felt the man had changed since coming back from Huo Wei’s…
Seeing that he didn’t answer, Shen Shuowen took a step back and said, “It doesn’t matter. Whether you agree or not, as long as you need my pheromones, I will provide them to you at any time.”
Tang Yiqing’s face grew redder. He lowered his head, his fingers twisting together. His heart was sinking; he felt a sense of panic that the plot was deviating, but he also had to admit he felt a tiny bit of attraction.
“Is that okay? Yiqing,” Shen Shuowen said patiently.
Tang Yiqing gave a soft “Mm.” He never looked up. He didn’t know what he was thinking; he just agreed for now.
Shen Shuowen let out a long breath. This was the first time he had experienced something so soul-stirring. He couldn’t help but laugh softly. “I am very happy.”
Tang Yiqing’s face was flushed. He looked up and saw the relaxed smile on Shen Shuowen’s face.
A moment later, Shen Shuowen stared at the suppressant patch on the back of Tang Yiqing’s neck. Following his heart, he reached out and peeled it off, the adhesive making a soft tearing sound.
Tang Yiqing instinctively stepped back, but Shen Shuowen caught his arm. He saw that the bite marks he had left were still there, not yet fully faded. The scent of daisies flooded out, and Shen Shuowen leaned in to sniff.
Tang Yiqing wanted to escape, but he remained still to let Shen Shuowen smell him. Huo Wei had said that Shen Shuowen hadn’t fully recovered, and he could see the man looked unwell and needed his pheromones.
Tang Yiqing tried to use his pheromones to soothe Shen Shuowen, drawing a sigh from the Alpha. A comfortable warmth seemed to flow through his limbs, dispersing his exhaustion.
Shen Shuowen breathed greedily, unwilling to leave, but for now, he had to let Tang Yiqing go back. He straightened up and reapplied the suppressant patch.
His fingertips pressed against the neck, the pressure somewhat heavy, causing Tang Yiqing’s body to tremble and let out a soft moan.
Then, he heard Shen Shuowen’s deep voice: “Don’t let anyone else touch this place.”
Tang Yiqing’s face turned beet red. He nodded. Then, Shen Shuowen took his hand. A sudden cold sensation touched his wrist—a metal bracelet was now around it.
“This can monitor your body’s pheromone data. Register an account for yourself later. If your pheromones are unstable or you enter heat, we will both see the feedback,” Shen Shuowen said.
Tang Yiqing froze for a moment, not knowing if he should say thank you. “This… doesn’t seem to be for sale.”
Shen Shuowen said, “This is a newly developed product that hasn’t been promoted yet. It’s waterproof; you can wear it all the time. If I see your pheromones are abnormal, I will find you and provide you with mine.”
Tang Yiqing felt a vague sense that wearing this meant being monitored by pheromones, but feeling that Shen Shuowen was doing it for his health, he still said, “Thank you.”
Shen Shuowen went back upstairs first. Tang Yiqing walked slowly out of the guest room. He found that Shen Zeqi and Shen Mingzheng were actually still there.
It was very late. Neither of them had gone to sleep; they were both waiting for him.
Shen Zeqi stepped forward to wrap his arm around Tang Yiqing, but Tang instinctively dodged, making him miss.
Shen Zeqi frowned and looked at Tang Yiqing. Tang couldn’t explain this subtlety for a moment.
However, Shen Zeqi soon realized: it must have been his big brother, that old-fashioned stick-in-the-mud, lecturing Tang Yiqing. Telling him to follow the family rules and maintain social ethics and morality.
“What did my big brother say to you?” Shen Zeqi asked.
Tang Yiqing shook his head. “Nothing much…”
Shen Zeqi assumed Tang Yiqing was too embarrassed to say it plainly and didn’t press further. “You don’t have to listen to him. He’s been old-fashioned for years, always pushing his standards onto others. It’s exhausting.”
Tang Yiqing’s face was faintly hot as he hummed in response. Nearby, Shen Mingzheng also thought he knew what had happened.
He assumed his big brother must have told Tang and Zeqi to watch their influence and probably advised Tang to change his mind—after all, who besides Shen Zeqi would actually want their brother to get a divorce?
Seeing Tang Yiqing reject Shen Zeqi’s approach, he knew Shen Shuowen’s words had worked. A surge of satisfaction rose in his heart. He didn’t stay any longer and went straight upstairs.
In the bedroom, He Chenguang and Shen Shanyu were already asleep. It was very quiet. In the dim light, Shen Mingzheng’s raised hand eventually dropped.
He checked the time. It was very late. He really didn’t have the heart to wake them up and send them away now. He thought there was no rush; he would just send He Chenguang away quietly when they woke up tomorrow morning.
Shen Mingzheng lay down beside the child and closed his eyes. But he couldn’t sleep at all. He tossed and turned, his mind filled with Tang Yiqing!
He had just rejected Shen Zeqi; that was a very good sign. He couldn’t stay lying down.
Shen Mingzheng left the room and went to the one next door. It was deep into the night. He knocked on the door with restraint. He thought Tang Yiqing had only just returned to his room and shouldn’t be asleep yet. He urgently wanted to see him and talk to him.
But the door didn’t open. He knocked again. Still no response.
At this moment, inside the room, a child was sleeping soundly on the bed. Beside the bed, Tang Yiqing was held in Shen Shuowen’s arms. His suppressant patch was gone, and his snow-white nape was exposed to Shen Shuowen’s eyes.
Warm breath swept over the skin, followed by suction and light biting. This patch of skin felt as if it were being forced to ripen, burning hot. Tang Yiqing trembled in Shen Shuowen’s arms, unable to even sit steadily.
He was following Huo Wei’s instructions to provide pheromones to Shen Shuowen. At this moment, he felt like a literal sedative. But this method of soothing… was truly grinding.
“Someone is knocking on the door…” Tang Yiqing whispered. He was in a state of high tension, terrified of being caught with Shen Shuowen in his room, to the point that Shen Shuowen’s hot breath caused him to shiver sensitively.
“Ignore him,” Shen Shuowen said. He licked his canines, wanting to bite down. The urge was a primal instinct, a deep, deep desire… but he couldn’t do it yet.
His canines pressed against the gland like an animal in a teething phase, grinding back and forth. Tang Yiqing couldn’t take it and raised his hand to cover the sounds he wanted to let out.
“The child is sleeping… I’ll give it to you tomorrow…” Tang Yiqing suggested in a trembling voice.
Shen Shuowen remained unmoved, his voice calm. “Don’t make a sound to wake him.”
Tang Yiqing didn’t speak again. Their pheromones were entwined. He was also made very comfortable by Shen Shuowen’s pheromones, but the torment on his neck… he had to cover his mouth to stay silent.
Shen Shuowen pulled the person in his arms tighter, his breath grazing Tang Yiqing’s earlobe. He heard Shen Shuowen’s deep, magnetic voice: “Yiqing, the liquid you gave me is all gone.”
He sounded somewhat regretful. “I should have collected it when you were in heat that time.”
Tang Yiqing felt like a cooked shrimp. Why talk about that!
“I need it. It has a very good soothing effect on me,” Shen Shuowen said. “Can you give me some more?”
Shen Shuowen’s voice was steady and controlled, as if he were truly discussing a very serious matter. Only Tang Yiqing wanted to find a hole in the ground to crawl into out of shame.
