After a Metaphysics Master Transmigrates into a Scummy Alpha, She Ends Up with the Best Actress - Chapter 19
Gu Li walked a few steps before remembering the cameras behind them. She turned to the cameraman and said, “You don’t need to follow us for this part.”
The cameraman was stunned. What does she mean? Is the show over? You two are the main attraction! If we stop filming now, the show is going to tank, and the crew is still waiting to get paid.
“It’s fine, let them come along,” Ye Lin said, doubling back after realizing Gu Li hadn’t followed.
Gu Li shot her a meaningful look: Diwu Ju and Dijiu Li will both be there. That’s not exactly broadcast-ready material.
Ye Lin returned a reassuring gaze, conveying: I have a plan.
“Alright then.” If the person involved said it was fine, what else could she say? At worst, they’d just have to cut the footage later.
And so, the two women followed the ghost deeper into the mountains. Gu Li noticed the mountain path was surprisingly easy to navigate—much better than the trails she’d encountered while filming on location. The ground was level, branches didn’t snag her clothes, and most importantly, she hadn’t seen a single bug. Maybe it’s because Ye Lin is clearing the way in front of me? she wondered.
Unbeknownst to her, Ye Lin’s right hand was moving in a silent snapping motion. With every “snap,” a transparent, human-sized barrier expanded backward, enveloping Gu Li. Each layer added a new protection or mitigated a potential harm. Ye Lin’s hand never stopped; she was terrified of being unthorough and missing a single protective hex.
Consequently, the jagged grass and branches “intelligently” bent away from Gu Li’s body, and any snakes or insects lurking in the woods beat a hasty retreat.
As the woods grew darker, Dijiu Li suddenly stopped. Ye Lin halted as well. She turned abruptly, pointing at a tree trunk behind the cameraman, and cried out, “A snake!”
The cameraman jumped, nearly dropping the heavy equipment off his shoulder.
In that split second of distraction, as the lens veered away, Ye Lin flicked her wrist. Two soybeans hit the ground. Poof! Poof! Amidst two plumes of white smoke, two living people appeared.
Dijiu Li was floored: Living people out of thin air?
“Whoa!” Gu Li’s jaw nearly hit the forest floor. Standing before her was another Ye Lin and another version of herself. They weren’t just similar; they were identical! The only giveaway was their somewhat wooden expressions and dull eyes, but one wouldn’t notice without a very close look.
“What, what is this?” Gu Li whispered, scooting toward the real Ye Lin and grabbing her sleeve, afraid of startling the “clones.”
“Scattering beans to form an army!” Dijiu Li, a ghost of several thousand years, was seeing this for the first time. Ancient texts spoke of celestial beings who could summon armies from beans, call upon the wind and rain, and flip the very heavens and earth. She’d always assumed it was mythology. You live and learn, she thought bitterly. Her thousands of years of cultivation felt like a waste compared to this junior; this girl could summon soldiers from beans while Dijiu Li couldn’t even break her own array.
“Don’t be afraid,” Ye Lin said, squeezing Gu Li’s hand to relax her. “It’s just an illusion technique.”
Scattering beans to form an army? Honestly, she could do it with green onions or garlic too—it just smelled a bit stronger.
“An illusion, so, are they ‘smart’?” Gu Li gestured toward her head. She wanted to know if these “people” were more advanced than AI robots.
“Well.” Ye Lin didn’t find the question odd at all. She thought about it seriously while casting an Invisibility Hex to hide the two of them. “Probably not that smart.”
After the “scare,” the cameraman realized there was no snake—just a vine. Ye Lin’s eyesight is terrible, he grumbled. When he turned the camera back, “Ye Lin” and “Gu Li” were standing side-by-side, stiff and silent. Wait, did they get into a fight while I wasn’t looking? Are they giving each other the silent treatment?
The two “clones” received a mental command from the real Ye Lin: Go find the large ingredient packs. Act friendly and interactive.
The clones nodded and immediately began “interacting.” The fake Ye Lin took the fake Gu Li’s hand and gave her a sweet smile; the fake Gu Li beamed back, her eyes curving into crescents. Then, the two of them skipped away hand-in-hand.
The cameraman followed, his head full of questions. They looked like strangers a second ago, and now they’re this close? I will never understand girls.
The netizens in the comments section exploded!
【The Movie Queen and the Scum Alpha are holding hands? Quick, get me some eye drops, I can’t believe my eyes!】
【You’re overreacting. Our Sister Ye is gorgeous and a great cook; Gu Li isn’t losing out here. Besides, this is a dating show. If you can’t handle it, swipe up.】
【Aaaaaah! They’re making eyes at each other! Oh my god, am I allowed to watch this for free?】
【The two beauties are so cute, skipping along like children. More sugar! Give us more sweetness!~】
Watching the clones, Gu Li bit her lip. Look at how well they understand the assignment. Such sweet interactions. Maybe I should just let the “fake” me do the variety shows from now on—she’s better at it. She felt a strange pang of envy.
Ye Lin was envious too. I told you to interact, not to flaunt your “relationship” in front of the originals! However, she glanced down at her own hand, which was still being held by the real Gu Li. Actually, this is pretty sweet too.
With the cameraman lured away, it was time to handle the real business. Dijiu Li stopped at the edge of the Soul-Locking Array. She couldn’t go any further. Directly below them lay Diwu Ju’s tomb. Now that the Refining Array was broken, the dark energy above the tomb was scattering uncontrollably, causing the light in the forest to dim.
Dijiu Li’s eyes dimmed as well. Guilt, self-reproach, and heartache flooded her heart.
Ju, we are finally going to meet.
