After a Metaphysics Master Transmigrates into a Scummy Alpha, She Ends Up with the Best Actress - Chapter 15
As noon approached, Ye Lin hummed a little tune, skipping down the mountain with a small bamboo basket in hand. She had just broken the Malevolent Array and gathered a bounty of fresh ingredients. Between the crisp mountain air and her successful mission, her heart was light. She absolutely refused to admit her good mood had anything to do with Gu Li’s concern for her earlier that morning.
Reaching the foot of the mountain, Ye Lin spotted a slender figure peeking around the wooden shack, seemingly looking for something.
“Ming Fanshuang, do you need something?” Ye Lin walked up and tapped her on the shoulder.
Ming Fanshuang, who had been wrestling with whether or not to ask for help, jumped nearly a foot into the air. She almost flung a black plastic bag into Ye Lin’s face. “Ah! Don’t you make any sound when you walk? You scared the life out of me!”
The cameraman standing nearby was speechless. He had clearly heard Ye Lin’s footsteps and had even panned the camera to signal her arrival, but the young girl had been so lost in thought she hadn’t reacted at all.
“Sorry.” Looking at the fragile Omega who was a full head shorter than her, Ye Lin quickly apologized. She couldn’t help but wonder: Am I really that scary?
“It—it’s okay.” Ming Fanshuang wasn’t used to Ye Lin being so polite. When she first debuted, her set had been right next to Ye Lin’s, and she’d heard endless gossip—how Ye Lin was harassing another actress or getting into a fight. But the person standing before her wasn’t like the rumors; she was polite and gave off a strangely reliable vibe.
【Look at how shy my daughter is. She hasn’t fallen for Ye Lin, has she? Baby, don’t let that trash Alpha’s face trick you!】
【First Film King Luo, now the White Lotus. I have to say, this ‘Double L’ CP is a real magnet for trouble!】
【Is this a dating show or a soap opera?】
【Hahaha, the drama in this show is top-tier.】
Though embarrassed, Ming Fanshuang hesitated for a moment before finally squeezing the words out. “Um, could you please help with lunch.
” Her voice trailed off until it was almost a whisper.
【No way? What did my daughter just say?】
【I can’t even read her lips; she lowered her head. Holy crap, is she confessing?!】
【Ahhh! This is getting intense!】
“You want me to help you make lunch, right?” Ye Lin heard her perfectly but asked for confirmation anyway.
Ming Fanshuang’s public persona was that of a “good girl,” and she had shown off some cooking skills on other shows. However, she had no idea how to use a rural wood-burning stove. The fire was either too big or too small, and she was ruining perfectly good ingredients. Her mother had always told her that wasting food was a sin.
Though she was a bit reluctant, she had tasted Ye Lin’s plain noodles yesterday, and they were incredible! Besides, her partner, Shen Biejun, was doing all the heavy labor; she’d feel guilty letting an Alpha go hungry. So, she had come to Ye Lin for help.
“Is, is that okay?” Ming Fanshuang asked nervously. If Ye Lin said no, she and Shen Biejun would be eating charred remains. She didn’t dare ask Film King Luo, who looked like he carried a permanent “Do Not Disturb” sign on his face.
And Chen Qingyang had been actively avoiding her, even though she hadn’t done anything to offend them.
“Of course. But I only have wild herbs and some mushrooms. If you don’t mind that, come eat with us,” Ye Lin agreed readily. Cooking was a relaxing way for her to unwind, and it was no trouble to feed two more people.
【What? She just wanted help cooking? Psh, I thought we were getting a real ‘crematory’ scene!】
【Has her ‘domestic goddess’ persona crumbled? I thought she could cook.】
【Have you ever used a giant village iron pot? Those things are massive. She probably doesn’t know how to stoke the fire either. Didn’t she explain that during a cooking competition before?】
Hearing Ye Lin agree, Ming Fanshuang visibly relaxed and hurried to hand over the black plastic bag. “I—I brought some pork, eggs, and stuff. You can have it all. Shen Biejun and I will come over at lunch to help. Thank you so much!”
Ye Lin didn’t stand on ceremony and accepted it all. This was perfect for pork-filled dumplings. As for flour, she requested the half-bag left over from the production crew yesterday—they wouldn’t know how to use it anyway.
She borrowed a kneading board and rolling pin from the mother-and-daughter-in-law pair from yesterday. They even gifted her some fruit and a small piece of beef. More meat! Ye Lin could barely suppress her grin. She walked with a light, bouncy step that was so lively and cute it even started to win over the netizens.
【Ah! Why do I feel my exhaustion vanishing just by watching her smile?】
【One smile from Ye Lin cures a hundred ailments. My back doesn’t ache, my legs don’t hurt, and my chronic bronchitis is gone! High beauty is the best medicine!】
【I refuse to admit a trash Alpha can smile this beautifully! But that won’t stop me from watching.】
Ye Lin returned to the wooden shack. Fortunately, there were two sturdy tree stumps of the same height in front of the house, which made a perfect makeshift stand for the kneading board.
Making the dough was simple, but it needed time to rest.
During that time, Ye Lin took her bamboo basket to the tap outside and rinsed the wild herbs and mushrooms. These natural ingredients were clean—free of pesticides or pollution—and only needed a quick wash.
She set the vegetables aside, specifically picking out the Creeping Sedum to mince for the filling. Then, she took the pork Ming Fanshuang had brought, washed it, and began to slice and mince it.
On screen, the pork slices seemed to submit to Ye Lin’s long, fair fingers, laying themselves neatly on the board. Then, her arm moved in a blur. The cleaver flew up and down so fast it created an afterimage, making the viewers rub their eyes.
【Wait, am I seeing things? Is that a knife in her hand? Are you sure that’s not CGI?】
【Holy crap! Ye Lin’s knife skills are god-tier!】
【Film King Luo, I’m sorry! I’m jumping ship to Ye Lin. She’s too cool!】
In no time, the pork was transformed into fine mince, and Ye Lin wasn’t even winded. She tossed the meat into the basin, added salt, oyster sauce, and seasoning, and mixed it all with the herbs. A bowl of fragrant dumpling filling was ready.
Lifting the cloth off the dough basin, she found the dough had rested until it was soft and elastic. Ye Lin nodded in satisfaction. She grabbed a handful of flour; her slender wrist flicked slightly, scattering the fine white powder across the board like snow. Everything looked serene.
The midday sun bathed the land. Ye Lin stood in a white shirt and a navy blue apron, her long hair tied back to reveal her elegant neck. Her sleeves were rolled up to her elbows, exposing her fair, graceful forearms. Her hands expertly rolled the dough into a long rope, sliced it into equal pieces, and pressed them into small circles. The rolling pin danced in her palm; after two quick turns, each piece became a perfect dumpling wrapper—thick in the middle and thin at the edges.
When Gu Li returned from the fields, this was the scene she walked into. A phrase flashed through her mind: A perfect wife and homemaker. This woman was truly “domestic bliss” personified.
Ye Lin was beautiful, and her hands were even more so. A simple wrapper was transformed by her touch into a plump, adorable dumpling that looked incredibly appetizing.
At the foot of the mountain, by a rustic home, a beauty accompanied by kitchen smoke, Gu Li suddenly felt an impulse to walk over and hug her. And so, she did.
Ye Lin, fully immersed in her cooking, was suddenly pulled into a warm embrace from behind. The soft sensation against her back made her body reflexively stiffen. The faint scent of agarwood drifted into her nose, and her body gradually relaxed. Then, a blush climbed visibly from her neck to her cheeks. “What—what are you doing? We’re still filming!” Ye Lin’s expression was fierce, but her aura was weak. She looked seventy percent shy and thirty percent indignant—the kind of look that made one want to tease her even more.
Gu Li was tall for an Omega—almost as tall as Ye Lin—and her presence was no less imposing than a typical Alpha’s. She rested her chin on Ye Lin’s shoulder and whispered in her ear, “I’m only hugging you because we’re filming. We have to give the audience some ‘sugar.'”
Hot breath hit her earlobe, making Ye Lin shiver. The dumpling in her hand dropped onto the board with a thwack. Hug, hug, hug, hug my foot!
Before Ye Lin could truly snap, Gu Li let go. Teasing Ye Lin was surprisingly fun. Ah, another wicked pleasure to add to my list.
Because of Gu Li’s move, the comments exploded again:
【AAAAHHH! My CP is real! So sweet! Shy Ye Lin is so cute.】
【This feels like a role reversal. Why is the Alpha the shy one? Shouldn’t it be the Omega?】
【A hug! Is this something I can watch for free? Nosebleed.jpg】
Hmph! Just because we’re filming doesn’t mean she can flirt with me! Ye Lin pouted, the dumplings suddenly losing their charm.
“Should I help you wrap them?” Gu Li asked, looking at the wrappers on the board with a bit of hesitation.
“Do you know how?” Ye Lin raised an eyebrow.
“No.” Gu Li was very well-behaved in this moment. I don’t know. I don’t understand, please teach me.
Ye Lin gave an arrogant “hmph,” wearing an “I knew it” expression.
Gu Li laughed again. In front of her, Ye Lin didn’t act like an Alpha at all; sometimes she was as cute as a hungry cub. Since she had nothing to do, Gu Li propped up her chin and stared at Ye Lin without blinking, not looking away until the “cub” finally bared its teeth.
“Go wash your hands and come back to learn,” Ye Lin huffed, blushing as she stamped her foot. “Otherwise, when are we ever going to eat?” Ugh, so annoying. First the Red Thread, now this. Even though she was pouting, her lips couldn’t help but curve upward.
Just as Gu Li stood up, a sudden clap of thunder echoed through the clear sky. She was frozen in place, feeling as though an invisible hand had gripped her throat. The air around her grew thin and icy. The fear of losing control over her body and the sensation of suffocation didn’t have time to fully register, because in an instant—too fast to even process—her body felt light again. The suffocation and the feeling of being a puppet vanished.
Ye Lin stood by Gu Li’s side, brushing the flour off her hands and looking up at the center of the array.
“Master! The array is activating!” Dijiu Li drifted down from the treetops. She looked up and saw a layer of spiritual energy shielding the inner side of the Transfer Array. The overwhelming pressure from the array had vanished in an instant. She looked at Ye Lin in shock. How powerful must her spiritual energy be? Just who on earth is she?
In the sky, the pale blue square array was shifting at an incredible speed, like it was rushing toward a life-or-death encounter.
“Go finish wrapping the dumplings. Remember to pinch the edges tight; meat filling is precious!” Ye Lin winked at Gu Li, signaling her to relax.
I’ve got this.
Ye Lin interlaced her fingers and cracked her knuckles. She had been waiting for this exact moment.
Author’s Note:
Gu Li: Ye Lin, what’s more important—meat dumplings or me?
Ye Lin (holding the dumplings, seriously): You are!
