After a Flash Marriage with a Professor - Chapter 94
Chapter 94: Panic
Ming Shu’s heart immediately jumped into her throat. She frantically pulled open the cabinet whose lock had been pried open and anxiously rummaged through it.
It was gone.
It was missing.
It was truly gone.
Ming Shu panicked even more. Before, it was a subtle, uncertain fear, coupled with a glimmer of hope and chance, but now the matter was set in stone, making her feel even more unsettled.
“Ming Shu, what’s wrong? Did you lose something?”
Ling Han noticed Ming Shu’s panic and specifically came over to ask.
Ming Shu whispered, “The lock on my cabinet was pried open, and the documents I prepared yesterday were taken.”
Ling Han made no sound, calmly displaying her shock. Her eyes widened, but her pupils suddenly contracted.
After a moment of thought, Ling Han said to Ming Shu, “Come out with me first.”
Ming Shu stood up and followed Ling Han out. Ling Han asked her for the details.
“Were they still there when you left yesterday?”
“Yes!” Ming Shu said with utmost certainty, “I locked it before I left work yesterday.”
“Then someone took them after you left.” Ling Han lowered her head, bending her fingers and resting them against her chin. She thought for a moment and then asked, “Ming Shu, was there anyone else in the office when you left yesterday?”
“There was one.”
“Who?”
“I didn’t see the face, but I remember which seat he was sitting in.”
Ling Han asked Ming Shu to point him out. Ming Shu nodded in agreement. The two stood together at the office doorway. Ming Shu was about to point based on her memory from yesterday when she suddenly realized something was wrong.
“What is it, Ming Shu?”
“That seat, it should have been a male colleague, but a female colleague is sitting there now.”
“Maybe they just sat randomly. Look at the others.”
“Okay.”
Most of the office was made up of male colleagues, and they all looked similar. She hadn’t seen the person’s face yesterday and couldn’t pick him out. Ming Shu shook her head at Ling Han.
Ling Han looked at the male colleagues herself.
“That one,” Ling Han pointed. Ming Shu followed the direction of Ling Han’s finger and happened to see a male colleague nervously lower his head. “Is it him?” Ling Han asked.
Ming Shu still couldn’t be sure.
“Let’s go apply to check the surveillance footage,” Ling Han said.
The two went to the surveillance room together. The reason Ling Han gave the staff to check the surveillance was that she had lost a valuable piece of jewelry. Ming Shu looked at Ling Han in surprise. She didn’t know why Ling Han was lying.
The staff member cooperated and was about to retrieve the footage from after work yesterday to show them, but found that there was no recording at all. “None,” the staff member scratched his head. “Maybe I accidentally turned off the surveillance when I left yesterday, so there’s no footage for the time after work.”
“If the item you lost is really valuable, report it to the police and ask them to help investigate,” the staff member suggested.
“Okay, thank you.”
Ling Han and Ming Shu left the surveillance room together.
“Sure enough, the person must have planned this for a long time.”
“Who planned it? That colleague? Why would he do that?” The colleague Ming Shu referred to was the one Ling Han had targeted, and he was also a member of their previous business trip team. They were a team. How could that colleague…
Ling Han sighed, “Ming Shu, never think too highly of others, especially when you are already being targeted.”
Ming Shu lowered her eyes, “It’s my fault for not protecting those materials. If I had taken them home, this wouldn’t have happened.”
“No. When bad people want to do bad things, we can always be caught off guard. Ming Shu, don’t always look for problems in yourself. You’ve done very well.”
Ming Shu nodded, still feeling very guilty. She asked, “Why did you lie just now? Why did you say the materials were jewelry?”
“I don’t want to make a big deal out of it. Let’s try to resolve it ourselves first,” Ling Han said. “Making a big deal out of it is unfavorable to you. Regardless of whether it’s your fault or not, this incident started because of you, and it can easily leave a bad impression on the leadership.”
“What if the problem can’t be solved?” Ming Shu asked worriedly.
“You still have Professor Shen. She is your strongest backing.”
Ming Shu shook her head. She didn’t want to rely on Professor Shen for work matters.
“I will solve it myself,” Ming Shu said firmly.
