After a Flash Marriage with a Professor - Chapter 75
Chapter 75: Not a Good Person
Shen Junlan was initially stunned by Ming Shu’s move, then burst into a brilliant smile.
It proved that a little rabbit, cornered by a wolf, would indeed fight back.
However, the little rabbit was ultimately weak and no match for the wicked wolf. She quickly realized that none of her attacks had worked as revenge; they hadn’t deterred the Big Bad Wolf, but rather brought it pleasure and enjoyment.
The little rabbit instantly deflated, retracted her paws, and lay still.
Seeing the little rabbit withdraw her hand with a hint of grievance, Shen Junlan quickly soothed her, “Wife, you are so beautiful.”
Ming Shu was slightly confused by the sudden compliment. She lazily lifted her eyes, remembered she was still angry, and then averted her gaze, muttering sullenly, “I know.”
Shen Junlan moved closer, hugging Ming Shu and continuing her praise: “Wife is aware of her beauty. You are an honest and stunning beauty.”
Ming Shu’s face was brushed by the warm air from Professor Shen’s speaking, and it blushed uncontrollably, unsure if it was due to the warm air or Professor Shen’s sincere yet somewhat exaggerated flattery.
“Sweet talk, not a good person,” Ming Shu mumbled softly.
Shen Junlan embraced Ming Shu with a smile, swaying gently left and right, like a human-sized, conjoined tumbler.
If she wasn’t a good person, so be it. If she were a “good person” in the strict sense, she probably wouldn’t have even held Ming Shu’s hand yet. How could she be as happy and content as she was now? Shen Junlan thought. At least Ming Shu hadn’t truly resisted her.
“Why are you still smiling?” Ming Shu was both puzzled and annoyed that Professor Shen could smile after being scolded.
But her petty annoyance was like a light drizzle to the experienced Professor Shen, who could fully embrace it. Shen Junlan quite liked Ming Shu occasionally acting a bit pouty; perhaps this was what they called “asking for it.”
“Because my wife is lovely. Beautiful and lovely,” Shen Junlan couldn’t resist kissing Ming Shu’s face.
Ming Shu tried to dodge, but she was a step too slow and was kissed by Professor Shen. Her defensive hand only managed to cover the spot where Professor Shen had just stolen a kiss.
“Wife, you smell so good.” Shen Junlan genuinely found Ming Shu’s scent delightful. It wasn’t perfume Ming Shu never wore perfume. Her natural scent seemed to be innate, something all humans possess in infancy, but which typically fades as they grow up.
In this regard, Ming Shu was blessed by fate. She had retained that light, subtly sweet scent, which reminded her of warm, sweet milk.
This time, Ming Shu deftly avoided her and gently pushed Professor Shen away. “I need to go wash up. I want to sleep.”
Her energy reserves were severely depleted from excessive consumption. Ming Shu needed to catch up on sleep quickly.
Shen Junlan held Ming Shu again, inhaling deeply for a few minutes like a cat lover nuzzling a cat, before finally letting go.
Once released, Ming Shu launched herself like a sleek arrow, heading straight for the bathroom and locking the door defensively. Shen Junlan heard the “click” from outside and smiled, curling her lips.
It seemed she had truly bullied the little bunny severely, prompting such caution.
Satisfied, like a wolf full after a meal, Shen Junlan licked her lips. It was time to shift her focus.
Shen Junlan called Yu Yue. After a few seconds of cheerful ringing, the call was answered with a dejected “Hello?”
“It’s me.” Shen Junlan lightly cleared her throat and said, “That ringtone of yours…”
“The League of Broken Hearts. Professor Shen hasn’t heard of it?” Yu Yue asked, gripping a green bottle of beer.
“That’s not important.” Shen Junlan paused, then asked, “Are you tacitly admitting that you’ve been dumped?”
“No, it’s too soon for that. I still feel like I have a sliver of hope. I think Lingyu should have a little bit of a good impression of me, at least a tiny bit.”
“Then change your ringtone. The battle song is important when you’re pursuing someone.” Shen Junlan recalled what she had heard her students discussing—when the battle song plays, you know whether love is near.
Shen Junlan felt this was indeed the case. It was like watching old movies; good background music could elevate the atmosphere to the extreme. If Yu Yue hadn’t given up, changing the ringtone could provide better, more positive psychological encouragement.
“Professor Shen, when did you become so knowledgeable? You even know about battle songs?” Yu Yue was shocked, taking a gulp of beer.
Shen Junlan chuckled. “I might not be fully informed about some information, but I’m not completely disconnected from the internet.”
“I underestimated Professor Shen.”
“One might think you’re talking to a Neanderthal.”
“Neanderthals probably weren’t as stunningly beautiful as Professor Shen.”
Shen Junlan frowned slightly. “Yu Yue, are you drinking again?”
“No.” Yu Yue took another swig of beer. When she reached the bottom, she placed the bottle on the floor.
Shen Junlan said, “If you truly want to pursue Lingyu, drink less in the future. Being drunk and incoherent, speaking inappropriately—don’t look for her when you’re drunk. It will scare Lingyu.”
“Alright, I’ll listen to Professor Shen.” Yu Yue readily agreed. In the past, she would have certainly ignored her, saying Shen Junlan was just showing an occupational hazard from being a teacher for too long, treating her like a student. But ever since Shen Junlan’s flash marriage, which put her ahead, and seeing her happy and content with Ming Shu, she had been thoroughly impressed with Shen Junlan.
Marriage before love, marrying her first love—Shen Junlan had avoided many detours compared to ordinary people. She wanted to learn from her experience.
“Does Professor Shen have any other tips to share?” Yu Yue asked.
Shen Junlan sighed. “Not for now.” She hadn’t expected to settle down before Yu Yue herself.
Yu Yue asked, “What’s Professor Shen’s ringtone? Is it Hot Love Ice Cream?”
Shen Junlan: “?”
“It’s not, huh.” Yu Yue unilaterally and abruptly hung up the call with Shen Junlan and immediately called Shen Junlan back. She had expected a surprise, but there was none. Shen Junlan’s ringtone was the same as always: a Spanish song, the Chinese translation of which was Days Like Years. It fit Shen Junlan’s identity as a foreign language professor, but she felt it clashed slightly with Shen Junlan herself.
Days Like Years sounded like discontent with the current situation, a lack of passion for life, and enduring the days in agony.
Out of curiosity, Yu Yue immediately looked up the lyrics of the song. She hadn’t studied Spanish, and listening to the song only gave her the melody; she needed the translation. What she found surprised her: the lyrics were very beautiful, even sounding a bit like a love-struck fool.
“Waiting to see you is like enduring a whole year.”
“A day without you is like three autumns. Seeing you is like the return of spring. I will be the first messenger to offer flowers and confess my love.” [1]
Yu Yue recited two lines of the lyrics. Shen Junlan looked puzzled. “What are you talking about?” She was well aware that Yu Yue had no romantic interest in her and would never say such mushy words to her.
“The lyrics to your ringtone! You’ve used this song as your ringtone for so long, you haven’t read the lyrics, have you?” Yu Yue asked in astonishment.
“…I have, but it was a long time ago.”
“Impressive, Junlan. How long ago did your romantic feelings start brewing? Did you know Ming Shu even before she started college?”
“No, don’t let your imagination run wild.”
“Then how do you explain this song? Did you like someone else before?”
“No,” Shen Junlan still denied. It was true; she hadn’t. She just didn’t know how to explain. She hadn’t told Yu Yue about her long-standing desire for that kind of relationship, and her constant anticipation for a person to come into her life and love her.
“Mmm…” Yu Yue pondered for a moment, choosing to believe her. Judging by Shen Junlan’s speed in pursuing Ming Shu, if she had liked someone before, she would have acted even faster.
As they were talking, Ming Shu finished washing her hair and showering and came out. A hair-drying cap was wrapped around her head, but a single strand of hair, a stray survivor, clung to Ming Shu’s fair, slender neck, dripping water from top to bottom.
“Professor Shen, are you on the phone?” Ming Shu asked softly while adjusting the pink hair-drying cap.
Shen Junlan nodded, restraining her gaze. She was starting to feel tempted again. The little bunny, fresh out of the bath, looked even more delicious.
“Junlan?” Yu Yue hadn’t heard Shen Junlan speak for a while and called out in confusion.
“Mmm,” Shen Junlan swallowed and replied.
Yu Yue sensed the subtle atmosphere, checked the time, understood, and proactively hung up the phone.
Ming Shu used the hair-drying cap to absorb water for a moment, and only after Professor Shen finished her call did she go to find the hairdryer.
“Wife, let me help you.” Shen Junlan simply wanted an excuse to be closer to her wife.
Ming Shu didn’t refuse and sat on the edge of the bed, allowing Professor Shen to blow-dry her hair. Shen Junlan cupped Ming Shu’s long, wet hair with her hand, adjusted the hairdryer’s temperature, and blew it dry, strand by strand, from top to bottom.
Shen Junlan’s fingers combed through every strand of Ming Shu’s hair, feeling the temperature of the warm air with Ming Shu. Her breath also flowed towards Ming Shu along with the air from the hairdryer. Shen Junlan’s heart swelled again, but she knew that Ming Shu, who couldn’t see her at the moment, was probably unaware of this.
She also didn’t dare to tell the little bunny about her current feelings. If the wolf, who had just finished feeding, opened its mouth to say it was hungry again, wouldn’t the little bunny be scared out of her wits?
She knew her limits. This was essential for keeping the little bunny by her side.
Just like humanity’s demands on nature, everything had to be moderate and focused on sustainable development.
When the hair was half-dry, Shen Junlan turned off the hairdryer, applied hair care oil to the ends of Ming Shu’s long, curly black hair, and continued to blow-dry it.
The job was done. Shen Junlan put the hairdryer away. The little bunny turned around and, like a gentle breeze, actively kissed her lips.
“Good night, Professor Shen.”
Shen Junlan was stunned for a moment.
Good night? It was a good night kiss. Shen Junlan became more alert, snapping out of the fragrant trance of Ming Shu’s presence. “Good night, Wife.”
Ming Shu sighed in relief, lay down on the bed, pulled up the quilt, and immediately fell asleep. She was genuinely tired and sleepy.
It wasn’t an act. Shen Junlan confirmed that Ming Shu was truly asleep. Fearing she might wake Ming Shu, she went to the guest room furthest from the master bedroom to shower.
The villa was originally given to her mother by her grandfather, and her mother left it to her. The villa had many rooms, quite a few guest rooms, but few had been occupied. Shen Junlan had few close friends, and Yu Yue was the only one who had visited. Yu Yue had stayed a few times before but didn’t like the decoration style of her room and rarely stayed overnight afterward.
Jiajia had visited more often. Sometimes she slept with Aunt Zhang, and sometimes in the guest room next to Aunt Zhang’s, both on the first floor.
Thinking of Jiajia, Shen Junlan sighed silently. She hadn’t realized Jiajia liked her before. If she had discovered it earlier, perhaps she could have curbed this hopeless affection sooner. Moreover, Jiajia’s detention was partly her fault. She felt inevitable guilt.
Shen Junlan took a melancholy shower. After blow-drying her hair in the guest room, she returned to the master bedroom.
Seeing her little bunny wife on the bed, most of Shen Junlan’s worries dissipated.
Turning off the light, Shen Junlan lay down beside Ming Shu, gently reached out to hug her, and took a deep breath of Ming Shu’s scent. She instantly flew from the land of trouble to the realm of tenderness.
