After a Flash Marriage with a Professor - Chapter 59
Chapter 59: Eat Meat
Ming Shu was kissed until she was lost in thought. Her fine, long eyelashes fluttered slightly, and her eyes were lightly closed, yet her gaze subconsciously drifted toward the car window. She was worried that someone passing by would see her and Professor Shen kissing in the car.
Professor Shen didn’t seem to care, kissing her rapturously with her eyes closed. Ming Shu slowly convinced herself that this was America, and it was just a kiss. Also, hardly anyone here knew her.
Ming Shu began to respond. Shen Junlan felt Ming Shu’s response and suddenly opened her eyes. Her little rabbit wife was sweet and soft, and also considerate. She probably sensed her bad mood and was kissing her with tenderness.
Being so well-behaved, she was going to be eaten up.
Shen Junlan didn’t hold back, continuing to kiss Ming Shu for a long time. Her hands were also not so well-behaved. One hand held the back of Ming Shu’s neck, and the other pinched Ming Shu’s waist. When she was aroused, she gave a light squeeze, watching the little rabbit wife in her arms twitch sensitively, she parted her lips, specifically listening for the soft cry that escaped the little rabbit’s mouth.
The little rabbit wife lost her support, her hands resting on Shen Junlan’s shoulders, dropping her head to catch her breath.
Shen Junlan softened a little.
After all, they were outside, and the view inside the car couldn’t be completely blocked from others.
“Wife, you’re so sweet.” Shen Junlan released the hand holding the back of Ming Shu’s neck and covered Ming Shu’s back. With a gentle push, Ming Shu nestled into her arms.
“Professor Shen, has your anger subsided?” Ming Shu asked.
“I wasn’t angry, just a little annoyed.”
“Annoyed about what?”
“My wife is so popular. Everyone likes her everywhere.”
“I really didn’t talk to that lady earlier. I only said ‘thank you’,” Ming Shu leaned into Professor Shen’s arms, her right hand loosely holding the red rose the blonde woman had given her.
“Mhm, I believe you.”
Ming Shu pushed herself up, resting on Professor Shen’s shoulder, and then thought for a moment. “And Professor Shen’s students, they were probably just joking. Professor Shen shouldn’t be jealous of them, right?”
“No.” Shen Junlan smiled. She didn’t find those children problematic. At most, she felt a little uncomfortable, but she was even grateful for their fondness and admiration for Ming Shu.
“So Professor Shen is selective about whom she gets jealous of?” Ming Shu’s eyes lit up, shimmering with light.
Shen Junlan didn’t answer. She averted her gaze from Ming Shu’s face, suddenly feeling that the act of being jealous made her seem childish.
Ming Shu looked at Professor Shen in confusion, watching a faint blush slowly appear on her face, and couldn’t help but smile.
“Professor Shen, why don’t you take me to see the place where you and the others are staying?” This was a good opportunity to disengage. Ming Shu, supporting her weakened body, retreated to the passenger seat.
Shen Junlan nodded and said okay, preparing to drive.
Ming Shu placed the rose on the car dashboard and brought the coconut water that Professor Shen had said was sweet to her. “Here, drink this.”
Shen Junlan lowered her head, took the straw in her mouth, and finished the drink before setting off.
Ming Shu sat in the passenger seat and drank the remaining fruit tea. It was sweet and sour, with a normal level of sweetness, not too sour. Professor Shen had indeed been jealous just now.
Shen Junlan drove Ming Shu back to the hotel arranged by the university and took her directly to her room.
“Shouldn’t we go see Ling Han, Professor Zhang, and the students?” Ming Shu asked.
Shen Junlan closed the room door directly. “No. Wife, you can ask me anything you want to know.”
Ming Shu didn’t have anything she wanted to ask at the moment. She shook her head and turned to look at Professor Shen’s room. The room was larger than the one she was staying in, with a very minimalist, Nordic style. The overall color scheme was white, and the windows were also white, draped with white sheer curtains that were half-drawn, letting the sunlight stream through the glass.
On the windowsill stood a transparent, long-necked glass vase, holding flowers familiar to her: Cappuccino roses, sunflowers, and hyacinths. Weren’t these the self-arranged bouquet she had given Professor Shen that day?
Professor Shen brought them back and kept them? And even got a vase for them.
Ming Shu walked to the window to look. The flowers were all blooming well, with the sunflowers being the most vibrant.
Shen Junlan watched Ming Shu look at the flowers with a smile. She found the scissors she had specially bought a few days ago, cut the red rose given to Ming Shu by the blonde woman at an angle to the right length, and then walked over to Ming Shu.
“Wife, your red rose. Do you want to put it in the vase to grow with the others?”
“Can I?” Ming Shu asked excitedly.
“Yes.”
Ming Shu took the red rose from Professor Shen’s hand and personally placed it into the transparent glass vase.
Underwater, different flower stems intertwined, and on the surface, different beautiful flowers bloomed brightly together.
Ming Shu looked at them and suddenly thought of the flowers Professor Shen kept at home: the orchids on the windowsill of the room, and the bird of paradise in the garden.
“What are you thinking about? Why the sudden frown?” Shen Junlan, keenly sensing the change in Ming Shu’s mood, asked softly.
“The flowers at home probably aren’t being looked after right now. I’m also a little worried about Auntie Zhang and Old Liu.”
“It’s okay. Flowers aren’t that fragile, especially the ones in the garden. They are rooted in the soil, and their vitality is strong. The orchids in the bedroom are being kept with nutrient solution. They won’t die in these few days. They’ll also wither when their time comes and need to be replaced.”
“Auntie Zhang should be fine too. Jiajia is taking care of her. Old Liu’s situation is even more optimistic. There won’t be any problems.”
“Oh, Professor Shen, I forgot to tell you something. I just received a call from the negotiator. She said our company’s collaboration with the publishing house has been finalized. We’ll sign the contract tomorrow morning, and we have tickets to fly back home in the afternoon.”
“Mhm, that’s good. Professor Zhang is here, so I can go back too.”
“Professor Shen, I plan to go back with my colleagues. The company is paying for the ticket.”
“Which flight? Let me see if I can buy a ticket for it,” Shen Junlan asked with a smile.
Ming Shu was surprised. “Professor Shen, aren’t you angry?”
“Why would I be angry? My wife is so good at managing the household and saving expenses. I’ve found a treasure.”
Ming Shu spread her arms and hugged Professor Shen. “You’re so good.”
Shen Junlan felt as if she was being hugged by a bear. She wrapped her arms around Ming Shu’s waist and lifted her up. Ming Shu’s feet left the ground, and she instinctively hooked her legs around Shen Junlan, completely wrapping herself around Professor Shen.
Finally safe, Ming Shu was still a little scared and said softly, “I take back what I just said.”
The corner of Shen Junlan’s mouth curved into a smile. She held the little rabbit’s bottom. “Wife, you’re so light.”
“Put me down,” Ming Shu said.
Shen Junlan walked to the bed with Ming Shu still in her arms before placing Ming Shu on the bed.
Ming Shu: “…”
The little rabbit wanted to get off the bed but was blocked by the big bad wolf.
“Professor Shen, it’s still daytime, and your students are also at this hotel. Be mindful of the impression we give.”
“It won’t make any difference. The hotel is well soundproofed,” Shen Junlan said.
Ming Shu felt she couldn’t escape the wolf’s clutches and brought out her ultimate weapon. “Professor Shen, I’m still on my period.”
“I know. That’s why I’m only going to do something pure now.”
“What pure thing?” Ming Shu asked defensively. What pure thing would need to be done on a bed?
Professor Shen was getting closer and closer. Ming Shu saw a red corner sticking out of Professor Shen’s gray suit pocket. A sudden flash of insight struck her. She pulled out the large, thick red envelope that Professor Zhang had given her.
“We haven’t opened the red envelope yet to see what’s inside, Professor Shen. You wanted to look at the red envelope with me, right?”
Shen Junlan paused. Her little rabbit wife had already taken out the red envelope that had been kept in her pocket. She sat on the bed, cross-legged, opened the red envelope, and poured out all the banknotes inside.
“Wow! So much money!” Ming Shu exclaimed.
“One mao, two mao, five mao, one yuan, two yuan, five yuan, ten yuan, twenty yuan, fifty yuan, one hundred yuan. It has all the denominations!” Ming Shu said in surprise.
Shen Junlan also got on the bed and looked at the banknotes spread out on the white duvet. They were all brand new, likely money Professor Zhang had specifically exchanged from the bank, perhaps for some purpose, and then improvised a red envelope for Ming Shu.
Ming Shu counted carefully. There was one of each denomination from one mao to fifty yuan, and ten one-hundred yuan notes.
Why would Professor Zhang give her a red envelope like this? Ming Shu couldn’t help but wonder. Her memory flashed back to the afternoon when her mother was called to the school office to discuss whether she should withdraw from school. Before her mother arrived, Ming Shu had been crying continuously. She was very scared because she knew her mother wouldn’t care and wouldn’t let her take a break. Initially, the counselor comforted her, and later many teachers from the English department came. Ming Shu was too scared and cried, revealing some childhood memories, just begging the school not to call her mother.
One very small thing was when she asked her mother for twenty cents when she was little. Her mother hit her with a thin bamboo stick for an hour. Prices were very low then; twenty cents could buy a pure mung bean or red bean popsicle. Her mother didn’t give her pocket money, and she had only asked that one time. She clearly understood her mother’s attitude and could imagine that her mother wouldn’t tolerate her taking time off. She exposed her wounds through tears only to beg the school not to call her mother, but her mother still came.
When she was little, she couldn’t even get twenty cents. Now that she was grown up, Professor Shen was willing to give her a million to help her through the family crisis, and Professor Zhang had given her a red envelope with every denomination of the currency.
Ming Shu was suddenly overwhelmed by a jumbled mix of emotions: a blend of gratitude and pain.
Why?
Ming Shu didn’t notice that tears were streaming down her face. Shen Junlan was startled and frantically raised her hand to wipe Ming Shu’s tears.
On the day Ming Shu’s mother came to the school, Shen Junlan was not in the Foreign Languages College office building. She was in the teaching building giving a lecture to students. Later, she heard colleagues mention it, but not in great detail.
“Wife, what’s wrong?”
Ming Shu didn’t speak or cry out loud. She just buried her head in Professor Shen’s arms.
Shen Junlan felt Ming Shu’s tears flowing down her chest. She felt a deep heartache, but she didn’t know what had happened. She could only generally guess that this red envelope, with all the denominations of the RMB, had evoked painful memories for Ming Shu.
“Wife.” Shen Junlan lovingly stroked Ming Shu’s soft black hair. “Cry out loud. The soundproofing here is good. You’ll feel better after you cry.”
Ming Shu finally let out a small sob.
Ming Shu cried for almost an hour before slowly subsiding into sniffles.
“Your eyes are swollen, Wife.” Shen Junlan said with heartache. “I’ll get down to get a hot towel for you to put on.”
“Don’t go.” Ming Shu sniffled, holding onto Shen Junlan tightly.
“Okay, I won’t go.”
Shen Junlan hugged the little rabbit in her arms tighter. “Can you tell me why you’re crying?”
“I don’t know how to say it.”
“Then don’t say it.”
“I’m sorry.”
“You don’t need to apologize. Everyone has small secrets they can’t speak about. I haven’t specifically told you how my rose scar came about either. Don’t feel any psychological burden.”
“Okay.” Ming Shu then said, “Thank you.”
Shen Junlan smiled. “The big bad wolf doesn’t accept verbal thanks. The big bad wolf wants meat.”
Ming Shu burst into a tearful laugh. “Professor Shen is being naughty again.”
“Because it’s in front of my wife.”
Ming Shu lowered her head and promised, “When we get back home, I will definitely satisfy Professor Shen.”
