After a Flash Marriage with a Professor - Chapter 22
Chapter 22: I Have a Wife
“Yes! Two days!” Mingshu looked at Professor Shen with hopeful eyes, not noticing the subtle difference in her smile.
Shen Junlan didn’t answer immediately. She was still smiling, but she lowered her eyes. With her left hand, she took Mingshu’s right hand and gently pinched every inch of her skin.
Mingshu’s palm felt itchy, and her body felt itchy as well.
“Your relationship with Lingyu is better than I thought,” Shen Junlan said, seemingly casually, as she played with Mingshu’s soft hand.
Mingshu was so itchy that she first glanced at Old Liu in the driver’s seat. Old Liu was driving seriously. Only then did she gently squirm her body.
“Lingyu is my best friend. You could say she was my only friend before. In the past, I basically spent every weekend with Lingyu, so…”
“So spending the weekend with Lingyu is a very normal thing, right?” Shen Junlan asked.
Mingshu nodded and added, “And this weekend is Lingyu’s birthday. I want to be with her.”
Her palm was suddenly scratched a few times. Mingshu felt that her bones were turning to jelly from Professor Shen’s scratching.
Shen Junlan calmed herself down and finally looked up at Mingshu again. The sensitive Mingshu blushed again, looking especially tempting. Unfortunately, they weren’t at home, and the topic they were discussing was related to someone else.
“You’re only thinking about being with Lingyu, Mingshu. What about me?”
“Huh?” Mingshu was a little confused.
Shen Junlan sighed. “If you’re not here, I suddenly don’t know what to do on the weekend.”
Mingshu had indeed not thought about this problem. Now, she didn’t know how to think about it either. She instinctively felt that her absence wouldn’t have a big impact on Professor Shen’s life.
However, after hearing what Professor Shen had just said, she wasn’t so sure anymore.
Mingshu began to think seriously. Before getting out of the car, she finally came up with a pretty good idea.
“Professor Shen, you can go out and have fun with Jiajia and Auntie Zhang. Last time, didn’t Auntie Zhang say that Jiajia wanted to go out with us, but she didn’t like me after we met? With me gone, it’s perfect for the three of you to go out together.”
Shen Junlan smiled. “…”
Having found a good solution for her, Mingshu felt completely at ease and pulled her hand out of Professor Shen’s.
“I’m going to work now, Professor Shen. Bye-bye~”
Mingshu opened the car door, got out, and walked quickly toward the company’s entrance with her head down.
Old Liu turned around at this moment and said, “Professor Shen, there’s something I don’t know if I should say.”
“Go ahead,” Shen Junlan said, still looking out the window, not missing the last glimpse of Mingshu’s back.
“Miss Jiajia said some offensive things to Madam before, but I believe Miss Jiajia was just concerned about you, Professor. She didn’t mean anything else. Madam is also very nice and didn’t hold it against Miss Jiajia.”
“Mm, thank you for telling me.”
Shen Junlan leaned back in the seat and closed her eyes. If the little rabbit wanted to go, then she would go. Before the weekend, she would have to speed up her night classes.
“Old Liu, go to Miss Yu’s place.”
“Got it, Professor Shen.”
Mingshu arrived at the company more than ten minutes early today. Ling Han arrived a little later than her and walked straight to her, placing a box of paper cups in front of her.
“What’s this…” Mingshu looked around. As expected, some colleagues were watching them, so she lowered her voice even more.
“Coffee. I made it for you before I left. Yesterday, I drank your corn juice and ate a box of your fruit. I felt bad about it. This is a gift in return. There’s a latte art. I hope it’s not ruined. Try it.”
Mingshu was stunned. The gift she gave Ling Han yesterday was insignificant. Why was Ling Han returning the favor today?
Was she too withdrawn and didn’t understand how colleagues normally interacted?
Thinking this, Mingshu opened the lid. There was indeed a latte art on the surface. It looked like a heart. It must have been jostled on the way, so it was a wavy heart.
“Sorry, I only know this simple pattern right now. It’s a bit rough,” Ling Han said.
“No, you’re already amazing. I don’t even know how to make coffee,” Mingshu said without thinking too much. She took a small sip. It wasn’t as bitter as she had imagined. It was pretty good.
“It’s delicious. Thank you, Ling Han.”
“You’re welcome.” Ling Han gave Mingshu a frank smile and went back to her cubicle.
Mingshu saw that it wasn’t time to start work yet. She remembered what Professor Shen said last night about Ling Han taking her food and felt it was necessary to clear Ling Han’s name. She took a picture of the coffee and sent it to Professor Shen.
A gift in return from a kind colleague.
Mingshu sent the message and waited for a few minutes but didn’t get a reply. When it was time to start work, she focused on her tasks.
Shen Junlan only saw the message Mingshu sent when she arrived at Yu Le’s place.
“Hey, didn’t you make the appointment? We agreed to go swimming together, so why haven’t you changed into your swimsuit?” Yu Le was already fully geared up. She came out and saw Shen Junlan standing there, frowning at her phone.
“What’s wrong, Professor Shen? Is your blind date not going well?” Yu Le asked tentatively. The last time Shen Junlan said she was going to get her marriage certificate, she didn’t take it seriously because she hadn’t heard anything afterward and hadn’t seen Shen Junlan post any pictures or show off her affection. Plus, she suddenly came to find her early this morning with that expression on her face. Yu Le could only guess that Professor Shen’s relationship was not going well.
“No.” Shen Junlan put her phone away. “Give me two minutes. I’ll go change into my swimsuit.”
“Okay,” Yu Le agreed. She sat by her pool and put her feet in to test the water. It was so cool. Swimming should have been an enjoyable activity, but she didn’t know how long that pervert, Shen Junlan, would want to race her for.
It seemed that every time Shen Junlan had something on her mind and came to see her, it wasn’t for a gentle talk. She would drag her to exercise. And not just exercise, but serious competition. It wasn’t a sports meet. One time after playing tennis with Shen Junlan, her arms were sore for half a month.
Yu Le didn’t know why she put up with Shen Junlan. It was probably because when she had her own problems, Shen Junlan would also accommodate her strange ways of healing.
Oh, what a doomed relationship.
Not waiting for her, Yu Le got into the water first. She was wearing a black and white striped one-piece swimsuit with many broken ribbons that floated in the water as soon as she got in.
“Yu Le, you look like a black and white fish,” Shen Junlan said as she came out.
Yu Le snorted and looked to the side with her small, narrow eyes. “It’s better than Professor Shen’s old-fashioned style.”
Shen Junlan’s swimsuit was a dark blue two-piece with a top and bottoms that looked like men’s wear.
“When I’m not old-fashioned, you won’t see it. Only my wife can.”
“Hmph, you say that as if you have a wife.”
Shen Junlan thought of Mingshu and smiled. “I do have a wife.”
Yu Le still didn’t believe her and changed the subject, treating it as Shen Junlan’s stubbornness. “Tell me, what’s the competition today?”
“Blind swimming, 1000 meters. Only one race.”
Yu Le nodded, thinking to herself that at least there was only one race. She hadn’t had a full breakfast, so she would make Shen Junlan treat her to a big lunch.
The two of them started at the same time. Shen Junlan swam extremely fast. Yu Le swam with difficulty. She had chosen the wrong swimsuit. Although this swimsuit made her look like a fish, it couldn’t help her swim as well as a fish. She also deviated from her lane and secretly cheated later on. She was going to lose to Shen Junlan anyway, so she didn’t want to lose too badly.
Shen Junlan finished swimming and waited for Yu Le at the finish line. She even got up and went to the locker to get her marriage certificate, which she always carried with her.
Yu Le finally got out of the water, panting as she sat next to Shen Junlan. She felt like she was going to die.
“See? I have a wife.” Shen Junlan opened the marriage certificate and showed Yu Le the page with the photo of her and Mingshu.
Yu Le was stunned.
“You really have a wife?”
Shen Junlan nodded.
What kind of normal person carries their marriage certificate with them for no reason?!
Yu Le snatched the marriage certificate from Shen Junlan’s hand and looked at it carefully. Wasn’t this the same girl who went on the blind date with Shen Junlan that day?
Damn it, she was so jealous!
“You got a wife as beautiful as this. You’re newlyweds. What are you doing here with me?” Yu Le was a little indignant. She also had to hurry up and find a wife.
“Mingshu has to go to work.”
“Then did you two have a fight?”
“No.”
“Then why are you here?” The single dog, Yu Le, was triggered and a little agitated. Shen Junlan quickly took back her marriage certificate from her hand.
“Swimming.”
Yu Le was speechless. “I’m so hungry, Shen Junlan. You have to treat me to a big meal.”
“Let’s go.”
The two of them went to a restaurant. Yu Le had her fill and sipped on some champagne happily. Her mood had improved significantly.
“Professor Shen, tell me, what’s bothering you?”
“Nothing.”
Yu Le knew Shen Junlan was stubborn, so she had to change her approach and ask what she was curious about first.
“Professor Shen, did you fall in love with Mingshu at first sight on the blind date?”
“No. We’ve known each other for a few years.”
“Huh?”
“She was a student at H University. I even taught her.”
“Holy sh*t!” Yu Le was shocked again and quickly took a sip of champagne to calm herself down. “Professor Shen, you’re a pervert.”
“Believe it or not, I had no thoughts about Mingshu back then.”
“I don’t believe you,” Yu Le said decisively. She even suspected that Shen Junlan had been planning this for a long time, taking things slowly. After all, Shen Junlan was someone who could keep a lot of things hidden in her heart.
“Suit yourself.”
Yu Le was already imagining a whole TV series in her mind about a professor and a student who wanted to love each other but couldn’t. The more she imagined, the more excited she became.
“Professor Shen, do you know any other pretty girls? Introduce one to me, too.”
“I only teach knowledge. I don’t run a matchmaking service.”
“That’s no fun.”
“Do you think I should get my inner eyelids done? My eyes are too small and look a little fierce.”
“No need. It’s better to keep your personal characteristics,” Shen Junlan suggested sincerely.
“I think so, too.”
“Yu Le, I have a question for you about relationships.”
“Ask away. I’ve been waiting for you to ask,” Yu Le said, puffing out her chest unconsciously. Although she wasn’t married, she had been in several relationships, which was something she had over Shen Junlan.
“What would you do if you found out that someone was expressing interest in your significant other?”
“I would declare my sovereignty. No one messes with my wife.” Yu Le said that and then her face fell. “Oh, I don’t have a wife yet. Shen Junlan has a wife, but I don’t.”
Shen Junlan: “…”
Yu Le’s emotional breakdown was probably a bit too much. She got herself drunk. Shen Junlan had Old Liu take Yu Le home first. Shen Junlan herself stayed at the restaurant. It was almost noon. She wanted to order Mingshu some foie gras and lamb chops and personally deliver them to her.
Shen Junlan didn’t tell Mingshu beforehand that she would be coming to see her during lunch. She went directly and waited outside the company for Mingshu to get off work.
After work, Mingshu tidied up her desk. Ling Han came to ask her to have lunch together, saying that she knew of a good restaurant outside the company and could take her to try it. Mingshu asked about the price and found it affordable, so she agreed.
The two of them walked out together, chatting and laughing. Most of the time, Ling Han was the one talking. Mingshu listened attentively and responded with a smile.
Shen Junlan sat in the back seat and saw Mingshu and Ling Han walking out of the company building together from a distance. She found it inexplicably jarring.
Her eyes were almost glued to Mingshu. The look in her eyes was clearly not pure.
