- Chapter 74 - Imprisonment - Bound by Chains to the Couch
The snow-white garment melted into the mist, like a wisp of fragrant soul about to dissipate in an instant.
Si Jing froze in place.
She did not step forward, merely raising her dark, peach blossom eyes, and extending a pale hand towards Chu Zhao. Her voice was gentle, “Zhao Zhao, come to my arms.”
Chu Zhao retreated in panic. She saw that the tip of the woman’s sword was dripping blood.
The blood was thick, almost tangible.
Just like those nightmares she had fallen into late at night when she was trapped in the pitch-black sleeping chamber in the past.
Si Jing’s finger bones relaxed, and the sword clattered to the ground.
Her movements were careless, but when her gaze fell upon Chu Zhao’s face, it concealed a wet and cold, misty possessiveness, as she lightly curved her lips.
“Ying Zhi has been looking for Zhao Zhao for a long time.”
“But Zhao Zhao… why stand by a stranger, willing to be deceived and persuaded, and yet unwilling to look at Ying Zhi?”
Chu Zhao felt her wrist suddenly tighten, clasped by something invisible, slender and cold, almost cutting into her flesh and blood.
She let out a soft moan of pain, and was dragged away from Bo Kunyao’s side, her vision obscured by the wet and cold snow-white cloth of the garment.
Si Jing pulled Chu Zhao back into her embrace, her hands clasped in front of the girl, as if securing a lost and found treasure.
“Zhao Zhao, it’s time to go back with Ying Zhi,” she murmured softly, leaning close to the girl’s ear.
Bo Kunyao witnessed everything and laughed, “So all the rumors are true. Si Jing, for the sake of a fish demon, you severed your Dao of emotionlessness, fell into the Demonic path, and even resorted to bathing Kunlun Void in blood for a forced marriage.”
“The little fish is indeed lovely, and her identity has also changed to the noble young mistress of the Fish Dragon Clan,” she said with interest. “It’s just that I wonder, what connection does she have with the Demon Lord Jiang Yun.”
“The position of Demon Lord of the Silent Sea is vacant. If it’s not you, I’m afraid… the little fish is the current Demon Lord.”
Chu Zhao listened in confusion, shaking her head.
She, she was definitely not some ‘Mo Zun’ [Demon Lord]…!
She wanted to escape from Si Jing’s embrace, but in her eyes, Bo Kunyao was also an unpredictable bad woman. For a moment, her heart was in turmoil, and she was caught between a rock and a hard place.
The surrounding blood mist instantly thickened and converged. Chu Zhao was pressed into the embrace by a cold hand, and the soft sleeve covered her ears.
She couldn’t see what was behind her, but vaguely heard Bo Kunyao’s suffocated gasps, as if her throat was constricted by Demonic energy, making it difficult to breathe.
Si Jing’s voice was very soft, “Silence.”
She ignored Bo Kunyao’s pale face, controlled the blood mist to lift the woman’s chin, and glanced at her indifferently a few times.
“…You are not worthy to discuss Zhao Zhao.”
Bo Kunyao, like a lush flower with its stem strangled, was eroded by the Demonic energy, showing distress, yet she neither dodged nor avoided, and laughed even more heartily.
“You, too, are no longer the Si Ying Zhi I once knew.”
The former Si Jing, though she cultivated the Dao of emotionlessness, was detached and aloof, but her heart was dedicated to the common people.
She also, like Bo Kunyao, harbored a deep hatred for demons.
It was only because, a long time ago, when Demonic energy silently encroached upon Emerald Peak and also affected the Palace of Inquiry of Love, she, as the Senior Disciple Sister of the Palace of Inquiry of Love, had briefly joined the woman in suppressing demons.
The sky was a dark hue, and she would forever remember that snowy night.
Si Jing, one person and one sword, her robes fluttering, with the rising moon like the beginning of a clear day, was as transcendent and lofty as an exiled immortal.
Yet, after nearly a hundred disciples of the Cloud Water Sect had perished by the demons’ cruel hands, she knelt down exhausted in the pool of blood, her ink-black hair obscuring her expression.
Bo Kunyao silently retrieved the woman’s plain sword, handed it to her, and sat down beside the woman, shoulder to shoulder.
It was the first time she had heard such a turbulent and bewildered tone from the usually taciturn woman, who was like cold stone.
“Kun Yao, on the path of cultivation, what exactly is the Dao Heart?”
Si Jing’s eyelashes were adorned with moonlight, and her appearance was like a sculpture of frost and snow, bewildered and wavering.
Bo Kunyao could not answer.
The Dao of Joy and the Dao of emotionlessness were fundamentally divergent paths, let alone Si Jing’s inner emptiness, which felt like a self-examination.
They were both the Senior Disciple Sisters of their respective sects, and naturally carried a heavy burden that their juniors could not comprehend.
Just like tonight, watching the young men and women of their sect die tragically before their eyes, yet being powerless and unable to change anything.
Those few days, she helped Si Jing use cinnabar to inscribe the names of the deceased disciples of the Cloud Water Sect on red silk, and hung them on the peach tree branches on Emerald Peak.
Since then, all disciples who joined the Cloud Water Sect were cherished and protected by the woman in this manner.
After returning to the Palace of Inquiry of Love, Bo Kunyao thought for a long time and finally smiled.
She thought, Si Jing should not be as cold as she appeared on the surface. Wasn’t it very clear what her Dao Heart was?
Similar to her, it was nothing more than protecting her fellow disciples and eliminating evil.
Bo Kunyao’s only regret was not secretly inscribing her own name on the red silk.
She was foolishly hoping to leave a trace of herself in the cold and exquisite heart of the woman who was like cold stone.
But she had imagined countless times, what expression would Si Jing have if she had done so?
She knew that Si Jing would not show any reaction. Because their interactions were already very few.
The woman who cultivated the Dao of emotionlessness would perhaps quickly forget that there was a person named Bo Kunyao in the neighboring Palace of Inquiry of Love.
Bo Kunyao began to indulge herself and embarked on a path of cultivation completely opposite to Si Jing’s.
She practiced the Dao of Joy to the extreme, seducing people with ill intentions, consuming their cultivation, refining them into ‘furnaces’ [used for cultivation purposes], and becoming infamous throughout the Nine Provinces.
However, upon hearing that the Nine Provinces Sword Trial Tournament would also be attended by the woman, she diligently studied swordsmanship, only wishing to meet her on the stage.
She got her wish, and in the eyes with which Si Jing looked at her, she captured a sense of recollection, and a faint regret.
Bo Kunyao thought, Si Jing would probably never again sit shoulder-to-shoulder with her and talk through the night, like she did on that night in the past.
The muddy swamp felt ashamed to reach for the bright moon in the sky.
The more arrogant and unrestrained she was when standing opposite the woman, the more bitterness and stagnation sprouted when she was alone.
Her talent was mediocre. Only by desperately chasing Si Jing’s footsteps did she barely reach the Golden Core stage, while the other’s aptitude was extraordinary, her realm profound, and she was already incomparable to her.
Bo Kunyao thought that Si Jing would always be like a transcendent clear moon, hanging high in the sky.
She had almost never imagined the possibility of the woman falling into the Demonic path.
But that day, the Demonic energy in the Central Prefecture singled out the Cloud Water Sect for its invasion.
She rushed to Emerald Peak in a panic, only to see Si Jing’s snow-white robe soaked in fresh blood under the peach tree, her hands numbly clasped to her chest, with Demonic markings crossing her eyes.
The woman’s long eyelashes drooped, and tears of blood streamed down her pale face.
As if an illusion had appeared before her eyes, she gently stroked something non-existent in her palm with her fingertip, murmuring to herself, “…Zhao Zhao.”
“Ying Zhi won’t go to accompany the disciples of the Cloud Water Sect anymore. Would it be alright if I just stay with you in the cave dwelling you like?”
Bo Kunyao wanted to approach, but the Demonic energy surging around the woman pushed her back.
From beginning to end, Si Jing did not cast a single glance in her direction.
When Si Jing fell into the Demonic path, it was also silent and unnoticed, just like her former nature, not harming a single blade of grass or tree around her.
Only then did Bo Kunyao realize, belatedly, that her past judgment of Si Jing’s Dao Heart was completely wrong.
For a heartless person, the so-called protection of fellow disciples and elimination of evil was nothing more than a heavy shackles imposed upon the woman.
Si Jing was naturally indifferent. She had never asked herself what she wanted, nor did she crave kinship, friendship, or camaraderie with fellow disciples.
After falling into the Demonic path, when she developed the seven emotions and six desires, what she yearned for the most became her true Dao Heart.
The one she couldn’t let go of in her words, the so-called “Zhao Zhao.”
Bo Kunyao was so constricted by the blood mist condensed from the Demonic energy that her face was pale, “Cough, cough… I never knew that a cold stone could also have a day when it’s moved.”
“That it would fall in love with… a little red fish of the same clan as the Demon Lord Jiang Yun?”
Even if the little fish’s memory was erased, her emotional threads removed, and even the brief memories of their past encounters had to be relied on coaxing and weaving lies.
Si Jing hugged Chu Zhao and took a few steps forward.
She raised her fingertip and placed it against her lips, silencing Bo Kunyao.
She waved her sleeve, sending over a wisp of Demonic energy containing a sound transmission, her voice empty and indifferent.
“You may curse me.”
“But you are not allowed… to slander Zhao Zhao.”
Separated by the Demonic energy that spread like a black tide, Bo Kunyao curved her phoenix eyes and let out a sorrowful laugh.
She and Si Jing became acquainted in obscurity, and after years of wandering, they were both rivals and friends.
Yet, in the end, she was not even as important as a little fish.
Chu Zhao, hidden in the embrace, couldn’t clearly hear what Si Jing and Bo Kunyao were saying.
The feeling of being controlled made her feel utterly wronged. She wanted to struggle free from the Demonic energy binding her to Si Jing’s wrist. “You’re a bad cultivator of the Demonic path! You want… you want to give me away to other bad women.”
“Why?” she asked in bewilderment, tears silently falling.
“…Ah Chu is not an object that can be tossed aside anywhere.”
She feared loneliness and disliked being abandoned without a word of warning.
Are all Demonic cultivators like this? They make her chest feel sore and stuffy, and she trembles with sadness.
In that case, she would rather never marry a Demonic cultivator again.
Si Jing covered the wrist where Chu Zhao had been left with red marks. She lowered her body and, with an extremely devout posture, gathered Chu Zhao’s legs to her.
Her long lashes concealed the darkness in her eyes, and she responded softly, “It will never be like this again.”
“Close your eyes and sleep. Zhao Zhao will never leave Ying Zhi’s side again.”
How could she bear to let others peep at the little fish that belonged only to her?
She only wanted to gouge out the eyes of everyone who coveted Zhao Zhao.
Picking up the girl, who was defenseless and permeated with Demonic energy, Si Jing walked silently towards the outside of the Palace of Inquiry of Love, a faint curve on her lips.
She would design a unique, comfortable, and safe little porcelain vat for her little fish.
A home… from which she could never escape again.
Chu Zhao felt suffocated.
It was as if she was tangled up in underwater reeds, unable to move, unable even to turn over or raise her head.
She whimpered uncomfortably, like a fish that had broken the surface of the water, and vaguely opened her eyes.
As her consciousness returned, she seemed to hear the crisp sound of metal and jade clashing, right beside her ear.
She was so thirsty.
Her eyes were dry and sore, her lips parched. She wanted to say something, but her throat felt as if it had been filled with desert sand.
“Zhao Zhao, are you awake?” A voice like frost and snow sounded.
The woman’s hand was cool and delicate, stroking her cheek, gradually touching her parched lips.
She paused, then actually chuckled softly.
A cup clinked against the table, and water gurgled. Chu Zhao licked her lips and accidentally licked Si Jing’s fingertip.
Before she could react, a cool, soft shadow leaned down and seized her lips.
Sweet liquor immediately flowed into her mouth.
Chu Zhao choked on the nectar, coughing until the corners of her eyes turned red. She tried to push the woman away in resistance, but her arms simply would not lift.
Her wrists ached unbearably, and the crisp sound of metal and jade clashing still echoed in her ears.
Si Jing closed her eyes, and, leveraging the aroma of the wine, naturally deepened the kiss.
She only propped herself up when the little fish, breathless from being plundered, began to struggle helplessly.
Chu Zhao’s chest was heaving, her lips sucked into a wet red. Her current appearance had a certain alluring vulnerability, inviting to be plucked.
Her throat was moistened, and seeing who it was, she immediately resisted in a weak voice, “…Bad Demonic cultivator!”
Si Jing did not offer an explanation.
She merely looked at Chu Zhao, her lips curving, her eyes swirling with a deeply suppressed look of satiation, as if she were admiring something.
Chu Zhao felt uncomfortable under the scrutiny. She tried to sit up, only to realize that her wrists and ankles were bound by jade chains.
She was instantly mortified and angered to the extreme. She wanted to revert to her original form and use her fish tail to fiercely teach the beautiful bad woman in front of her a lesson, but she was powerless.
“Let Ah Chu go…” Chu Zhao struggled. “Are you going to eat fish again? If you want to eat, then eat, why… why do you have to tie me up?”
As her words trailed off, her tone was already tinged with a wave of shame and embarrassment.
Si Jing kissed her reddened eyes with pity. “Ying Zhi just doesn’t want Zhao Zhao to be seen by anyone else again.”
Chu Zhao had nowhere to hide and turned her head away. “Ah Chu hates you! Don’t look at me.”
A brief silence fell beside her ear.
“But, Zhao Zhao and Ying Zhi are already married as Dao Companions.” The woman leaned down and nipped her earlobe, her voice gentle and submissive, “Zhao Zhao… you cannot abandon Ying Zhi.”
Chu Zhao felt Si Jing kissing her neck, and just like in the past, her whole body started to burn everywhere.
The person who was like cold jade ignited a strange heat in her body, leaving her dazed and at a loss.
She was already exhausted, and now she was even less able to fend her off, only able to helplessly shake her head. “No, wuu, not now, can’t, can’t eat fish!”
Si Jing’s movements paused for a moment.
She kissed the vermilion mole that rose and fell in the curve of her collarbone, and her finger bones intertwined with the girl’s constrained fingers.
Seemingly suppressing her desire, her shoulders hitched, and after a long time, she finally looked up and asked softly, “Does Zhao Zhao not like it?”
“Ying Zhi… will listen to Zhao Zhao.”
Chu Zhao was set ablaze, her whole body aching with discomfort, caught between a rock and a hard place.
“I don’t like it at all,” she retorted, avoiding the woman’s amorous gaze, her neck flushed crimson, as she let out a soft hmph. “I’m tired, I want to sleep!”
“Bad Demonic cultivator, you are not allowed to look at me either, got it?”
After saying this stubbornly, she tightly closed her eyes.
Si Jing truly made no further untoward moves.
She lay on her side in front of Chu Zhao, her arm encircling her waist, pulling her into her embrace. The softness of her chest rose and fell evenly.
Chu Zhao endured for a long time.
Thinking that the bad Demonic cultivator must be asleep, she finally couldn’t help but quietly peek through a slit in her eyelids.
But she immediately crashed into a pair of blood-red, peach blossom eyes that were focused on her face.
Si Jing was not sleepy at all, and even had a slight curve to her lips.
It seemed that she had been watching her ever since she adopted this posture.
No one knew for how long.
