- Chapter 69 - The Sword Hilt
Dew drops connect, stamens are entangled…
Chu Zhao’s chest heaved with panic, and she quickly averted her gaze, “You, you…”
Only then did Gui Ji slowly lift her eyes, still with a hooked smile.
The smile was the same as before, but it became even more unrestrained because she caught sight of the girl’s eyelashes, which were adorned with a glimmer of crystal.
She manipulated the demonic qi to drag the little fish over with the red silk, inspecting her closely as if admiring prey.
Chu Zhao kicked her legs forcefully and angrily reached out to bite the red silk on her wrist, but only swallowed a bloody mist, which was fishy and cold.
Gui Ji cupped her chin, pulling their faces extremely close, gazing at her almost in a daze.
She pecked at the corner of Chu Zhao’s mouth, piously, kissing her from her curled fingertips all the way to her collarbone.
Chu Zhao bit the woman’s restless lips, wanting the bad mushroom in front of her to retreat in the face of difficulty, “The Mushroom Exalt is not allowed to eat fish!”
Gui Ji then laughed again.
Her knee fell on the couch, slowly pressing Chu Zhao into the bedding, and she leaned into her ear, “But, Zhaozhao is very lovable.”
“Must eat.”
The hazy thoughts instantly turned into teasing words infused with interest. Chu Zhao felt shame and annoyance that were difficult to express, not to mention that she was currently tied up in an embarrassing shape by the red silk.
She retaliated by biting the woman’s soft lips again, wanting to eat the bad mushroom first.
But this time, she didn’t succeed. Instead, she was kissed until she couldn’t breathe, tears streaming down her face, unable even to escape.
Gui Ji’s eyes were filled with rippling allure. The red silk had already followed her will, peeling open the little fish’s crimson dress. She lowered her body slightly, watching with keen interest.
Dew drops connect, stamens are entangled.
Chu Zhao suddenly widened her eyes.
She panted blankly, seemingly not understanding what had happened, but quickly tensed her body.
She couldn’t stop retreating backward, and her voice was a whimpering gasp, “No, no eating my little fish roe!”
Gui Ji raised her head, seemingly docile, but held her slender ankle in her palm, and asked, tilting her head, “Doesn’t Zhaozhao like it?”
In a trance, the bloody mist gathered and dispersed, and Chu Zhao unexpectedly touched a cold, hard object on the bed.
She saw that it was a long sword.
It was the sword Si Jing used when teaching her swordsmanship before.
Gui Ji untied the sword tassel wrapped around the sword hilt. The coldness touched the hot skin, instantly causing the person beneath her to curl up and tremble slightly.
She lifted her lips, “Then let the sword hilt taste it, is that alright?”
“Gui Ji has been longing for Zhaozhao for a very, very long time.”
Chu Zhao’s entire body trembled. She bit her lip tightly, crying until her eyes were red, and dodged backward helplessly, “Cold, so cold… bad sword!”
Her vision blurred and lost focus. In a trance, the originally cold object also became slick and greasy.
Is the Mushroom Exalt going to use the sword to kill her little fish roe? But why would she do that… it feels so full.
She couldn’t support herself anymore. In the last breath before her consciousness faded, she saw the woman’s eyes, full of passion, concealing an indissoluble tenderness.
She softly murmured, calling her “Zhaozhao” brokenly.
Chu Zhao slept for a long time this time. When she opened her eyes, the surroundings were dark.
She couldn’t climb up, so she had to wiggle in the bedding. Turning her head, she saw that her legs had somehow turned into a fish tail, which was sore and unbearable.
Suddenly, her body felt cold as the bedding was lifted. She looked up and saw the woman in the snow-white robe with tightly pursed lips and a gloomy expression.
She said hoarsely, “Zhaozhao.”
Chu Zhao bit her lip, curled up into the depths of the bed in fear, and tilted her tail tip to cover her face, “Bad person! Bad Mushroom Exalt!”
Unexpectedly, her body felt light, and she was directly picked up by the other person.
She heard the sound of water splashing near her ears, and she and the woman were submerged in a pool of warm water.
Chu Zhao immediately swam away, flicking her tail, and glared at Si Jing with her pink eyes, enduring the soreness in her muscles and bones as she splashed water at her, “Don’t touch Ah Chu!”
In the steamy mist, her tail tip was suddenly caught. Si Jing trapped her in her arms and used some kind of spell. Her tail felt like it was bound by soft water currents, unable to move.
The woman scooped up a palmful of flower-shaped soap and carefully washed her entire body.
Her eyes were lowered. Although it was clearly very clean, she continued to rub her. Seeing the scattered red marks on her collarbone, her eyes suddenly turned cold, “…”
Chu Zhao realized that Si Jing had changed into another clean white undergarment, but it was now soaked by the water she had splashed, revealing her graceful curves.
She was suffocated by the foam, so she mustered her breath to lean in and fiercely bit the woman’s cheek, “Ah Chu doesn’t want to bathe!”
After saying that, she saw that her nose was smeared with soap foam. The woman lowered her face, and there was a glimmer of water flowing in her peach blossom eyes, making ripples across the water surface.
“Does Zhaozhao dislike Ying Zhi now?”
The beauty resembled a lotus, adorned with snow-white foam, not looking disheveled but instead showing a fragile, easily broken air.
Chu Zhao hadn’t gotten over her anger and was about to repeat “dislike” many times in a spoiled tone, but she saw Si Jing’s long eyelashes dampen, and a trail of water suddenly rolled down, causing ripples on the surface of the pool.
She was at a loss, cautiously leaning in to look. The sight of the crying beauty seemed to bore into her heart, making her heart feel a ticklish itch.
Is it daytime now?
She always felt that Si Jing was somewhat different from before.
The water current binding her was very gentle, and the woman personally bathed her. When she was fierce to her, the woman would even shed tears.
Could it be that she is a sword cultivator during the day and only turns into the bad Mushroom Exalt at night?
Chu Zhao raised her hand to wipe the beauty’s tears and coaxed, “Don’t, don’t cry.”
Although she was somewhat embarrassed last night, it was still very comfortable.
Her fingertip, however, was grasped by a cold, slick finger bone. Chu Zhao looked over. Si Jing’s eye corners were tinted with moisture, and she brought her hand to her lips.
She actually extended her tongue, licking away the water marks she had wiped off, and then planted a series of tiny kisses.
During this time, her peach blossom eyes never left Chu Zhao, besides pity, showing an emotion that Chu Zhao couldn’t understand.
That uneasy feeling of being watched surged up again.
Chu Zhao frantically pulled out her hand, but her vulnerable scales on her abdomen were tapped. Her body went soft, she whimpered, and could only let Si Jing do as she pleased.
Warm water poured over her again, and she was once more thoroughly bathed many times, inside and out.
“Zhaozhao was bullied last night,” Si Jing’s voice was very soft, laced with water mist, “Ying Zhi didn’t arrive in time and let Zhaozhao suffer.”
Chu Zhao’s thoughts were like tangled kelp. She quietly asked, “Was it other bad people last night? She transformed into the same appearance as you, she’s a Mushroom Exalt! And she used the sword hilt…”
Her lips were suddenly covered by a cool softness.
This kiss was utterly gentle and continuous, unlike the plunder of last night, like sinking into the clouds.
“Then does Zhaozhao like her, or me?” Si Jing slightly parted her lips.
Chu Zhao was kissed very comfortably and replied vaguely, “Like both.”
She liked Si Jing’s appearance so much that even though the bad Mushroom Exalt had a face identical to Si Jing’s, she couldn’t bring herself to dislike her.
But the hand covering her waist tightened little by little, squeezing her until she couldn’t breathe.
Chu Zhao was cradled in Si Jing’s arms and suddenly bit her lip in a daze. She noticed that the parts of her fish tail that she would never touch were being meticulously teased and rubbed.
“But Zhaozhao is dirty all over…” Si Jing spoke in a low voice.
“Let Ying Zhi wash you again, alright?”
…
The remaining red marks naturally couldn’t be washed away, so new ones were simply layered on top.
Chu Zhao didn’t know how she was brought from the water pool to the soft couch. She was so exhausted that her eyelids felt heavy, unable to even move a fingertip.
She slept for a very, very long time, her body sore and weak. When she woke up again, she was embraced by the woman behind her.
“Ah Chu is hungry,” Chu Zhao pushed away Si Jing’s hand and protested quietly.
Si Jing finally seemed satisfied and smiled gently, coaxing, “Ying Zhi will take Zhaozhao to eat what she likes.”
“We won’t stay here. How about going to the city to try some sweet pastries?”
It was the first time Chu Zhao had stepped out of the dark, quiet, large hall, whose location in the Nine Provinces was unknown.
After the bloody mist dispersed, she looked up and saw the three characters “Dan Yong City” outside the city limits.
But before she could look closely, a gluttonous demon, exuding demonic qi and with eyes bulging outward, suddenly swooped down from the wooden railing, causing her to cry out in alarm and hide in the arms of the snow-robed woman beside her.
Si Jing had her waist circled by soft arms, and the corner of her lips slightly hooked.
She gently wiped away the demonic qi at Chu Zhao’s tightly closed eyes and softly coaxed, “Zhaozhao don’t be afraid, Ying Zhi has chased the bad demon away.”
Chu Zhao opened her eyes suspiciously, looked around for a moment in confusion, and then, upon seeing the scene before her, immediately ran forward in surprise.
In the demon’s eyes, the city was clearly a different scene entirely.
The periphery of Dan Yong City was blooming with colorful, swaying spiritual flowers and grasses. Spiritual qi was abundant, and the flow of people was bustling and lively, with incessant cries of vendors.
A small girl, delicately carved in pink and jade, came over with a soft steamed bun and handed it to Chu Zhao on her tiptoes, her eyes blinking, “Pretty red older sister, have this!”
The bun was filled with sweet flower petals. Chu Zhao joyfully took a bite and squatted down to rub the little girl’s head, “So sweet.”
Si Jing stepped forward and took the hand of the girl in the crimson dress, “Zhaozhao, let’s go into the city.”
She walked a long distance forward, subtly glancing back at the little girl who was staring blankly behind them, signaling her not to approach again.
The girl transformed into a Taotie (gluttonous demon) and lay on the ground, staring at Chu Zhao’s retreating figure. Greedily, she used demonic qi to repeatedly rub the top of her head that had been petted, calling foolishly:
“Demon Exalt, gu… Demon Exalt…”
Only after entering Dan Yong City did Chu Zhao realize that there was such a wonderful place within the Nine Provinces.
The city had pavilions, terraces, and towers, surrounded by rippling water. Everywhere she looked, there were planted lotuses and jade lilies, a view much more moving than the scenery of Yaoguang Marsh.
Not to mention the countless stalls and treasures that almost made her eyes blur. She only squatted down and looked for a few moments, and the vendor enthusiastically offered to give her all the small artifacts displayed.
Chu Zhao threw many spirit stones into the vendor’s arms in exchange, tilted her head to look at him a few times, and spoke frankly, “Old Uncle, why is your Yintang (space between the eyebrows) so dark?”
It was as if a ball of black mist was enveloping it.
The demon nervously covered his face with his sleeve, trying hard to completely conceal his demonic qi.
He glanced tremblingly at the snow-robed woman standing silently behind Chu Zhao before replying, “Little friend, little friend must be mistaken. Oh, maybe I haven’t washed my face since getting up this morning.”
Chu Zhao obediently replied with an “oh,” and holding the bundled treasures, she took Si Jing’s hand, “Let’s go.”
Si Jing curled her lips, lowered her eyes, and softly replied, “Alright, Zhaozhao.”
There were many foods in Dan Yong City, including crispy fried mealworms, all kinds of pastries, and many dishes Chu Zhao had never seen before.
She closed her eyes and ordered many things, and surprisingly, every single item was delicious, as if specifically catered to her preferences.
Chu Zhao picked up a pair of chopsticks of mealworms for Si Jing and was quite surprised to see the other woman taste them with small, reserved bites, without her expression changing.
Just as she was pondering, she was burned by the fleeting smile in Si Jing’s slightly narrowed eyes and quickly looked away, “Don’t think this will make me forgive you!”
After filling their stomachs, it was time for fun and entertainment.
Chu Zhao played around, seeing that Si Jing merely followed behind her, occasionally smiling happily because of her joy, and sometimes feeling down because of her frustration, she also kept quiet.
“Don’t you have anything you want to play?” she asked anxiously, “It wasn’t easy to escape the Mushroom Exalt’s territory, don’t just follow me all the time!”
Si Jing raised her sleeve to wipe the thin sweat from her forehead and gently replied, “It’s fine.”
As long as the little fish was always, always within her sight, she would be satisfied.
Chu Zhao was heated from running. She closed her eyes contentedly when the cool, soft sleeve touched her.
Hearing Si Jing’s words, she shook her head in disagreement.
After pondering for a moment, her eyes suddenly lit up, “Then… then I want to play in a very large pool. Will you take me there?”
In a city shrouded in demonic qi, anything she wanted was merely a thought away.
Furthermore, Dan Yong City had long been molded into the little fish’s favorite appearance.
Si Jing silently urged her demonic qi. Not far away, a pond with delicate pink lotuses swaying within shimmered with the broken jade light of the setting sun.
Chu Zhao ran to the water’s edge and undressed. She had always gone skinny-dipping in Yaoguang Marsh and felt that this was the most unrestrained and joyful way.
The demons in the city watched, ready to move, extending their demonically-transformed hands and feet towards the pond.
A crimson flash crossed Si Jing’s eyes. With a silent clench, those demons immediately screamed miserably and fled in panic.
The figure in the crimson dress by the pond was already gone.
With no one else to disturb them, Si Jing slowly walked forward and called, “Zhaozhao?”
For a long time, there was no answer.
Her lips turned downward, her fingers unconsciously curled up, and her breathing lagged.
She searched blankly for the fish shadow in the pool again and again, but found nothing. Gradually, she began to tremble, lost and distraught.
Had Zhaozhao… run away again?
Had she abandoned her again in this brief instant, taking advantage of her distraction?
Si Jing’s entire body froze. She knelt on the ground, exhausted, her shoulders trembling, recalling everything that had just happened.
She didn’t know what she had done wrong this time.
Was the food not to her liking, or did Zhaozhao find the sights in Dan Yong City boring and tedious?
Perhaps, she should have bound the little fish to her side and never allowed her to leave her sight again.
Suddenly, something gently pulled down the corner of her robe.
Si Jing saw a gigantic, vividly bright fish-dragon, like the sunset glow, with wet, round eyes, biting her sleeve.
“Si Jing, look at me, look at me!” Her voice was muffled yet mixed with playfulness.
Chu Zhao swam proudly in the enormous pool, “You said you didn’t have anything you wanted to play, so Ah Chu will play with you.”
“Hurry up, climb up, I’ll take you to see the sunset.”
The withered scene, filled with demonic qi, briefly vanished due to the slight shimmer of the scarlet scales, appearing like a scene that would only exist in her imaginative illusion.
Her chest was filled with the overflowing sunset glow. She didn’t see the sunset, because the halo and warmth were slanted solely toward her.
Si Jing knelt where she was, wiping away the crimson blood tears that were almost madly spilling from her eyes.
She spoke softly, “Alright.”
