After a Contractual Romance with the Scumbag Movie Queen - Chapter 34
The next morning, Qi Puzhi seemed to have forgotten the events of the previous night, her expression as composed and nonchalant as ever.
Zhang Hua had slept well and woke up to see Jiang Tian bringing in breakfast. She teased with a smile, “Ah, the younger girlfriend is so considerate.”
Since Qi Puzhi could only eat very bland food, Jiang Tian had bought three portions of light breakfast.
Zhang Hua, who usually preferred strong flavors, grimaced. “Neither of us needs to eat this.”
Qi Puzhi didn’t mind whether the two ate richly in front of her, but since Jiang Tian had gone to the trouble, she certainly wouldn’t refuse the gesture.
“You’re picky even when there’s food to eat.”
Zhang Hua snorted but still picked up her chopsticks and started eating.
Jiang Tian had a lot of work and couldn’t stay for long, while Zhang Hua also had to handle matters related to the car accident and public opinion.
Thus, Qi Puzhi was alone during the day.
Though she held a high status in the industry and had extensive connections, she had few close friends.
Over the past few days, many people had reached out to visit, but most were politely declined by Qi Puzhi for various reasons.
When the hospital room door was knocked, Qi Puzhi thought it was Zhang Hua. She was slightly taken aback when she saw who entered.
“Cousin, are you okay?”
Rui Hui walked in cheerfully, carrying some items, her tone full of concern, though her expression was entirely relaxed.
Qi Puzhi’s expression remained indifferent. “I don’t recall inviting you.”
Unfazed by her cold demeanor, Rui Hui casually placed the items on the nearby table, then pulled up a chair and sat by Qi Puzhi’s bedside.
“Cousin seems fine,” she said, resting her chin on her hand as she studied Qi Puzhi with a smile. “That puts my mind at ease.”
Although Qi Puzhi was confined to bed for recovery, she hadn’t neglected her work.
She ignored Rui Hui, typing on her laptop as she said casually, “What else has the Rui family asked you to do?”
Rui Hui paused, then smiled like a fox. “Cousin, it wasn’t the Rui family who sent me.”
“I was just too worried about you and wanted to see for myself.”
Qi Puzhi rarely showed such indifference. She was usually accustomed to wearing a charming, radiant smile, using the most nonchalant tone to defuse tense situations.
But now, she was unusually cold, saying only, “Leave as soon as you’re done looking.”
Rui Hui seemed used to it, her charming smile unwavering. “Cousin is so beautiful, how could I ever finish looking?”
Her gaze lingered intently on Qi Puzhi’s profile, but the woman seemed completely unaware, continuing her work unmoved.
In the prolonged silence, it was Rui Hui who finally broke first.
“Cousin, you’re so cold to me. Are you still holding a grudge over what happened when we were teenagers?”
She said this lightly, then proceeded to pick up a knife and a peach from the nearby table, leisurely peeling it.
As she peeled, she occasionally glanced up to gauge Qi Puzhi’s reaction.
Expecting anger or continued indifference, she was surprised to see Qi Puzhi let out a soft laugh, the earlier chill instantly melting like a spring breeze.
Then, Qi Puzhi turned her head to look at her, her lips parting as she enunciated each word clearly:
“Rui Hui, I can’t help but feel that you’re the one who’s always holding onto the past.”
The words struck Rui Hui like a thunderclap. She stared at Qi Puzhi, momentarily speechless. Her hand trembled, and the knife nicked her finger, drawing blood.
Qi Puzhi glanced at it briefly before returning her gaze to the screen, her tone indifferent. “Lucky for you, we’re in a hospital. Go find a place to get it treated. Don’t come again.”
When the hospital room finally quieted down, Qi Puzhi’s gaze fell upon the freshly peeled peach on the nearby table.
It was originally plump, adorable, and juicy, but unfortunately, the person peeling it was weighed down by heavy thoughts.
As a result, the peach was riddled with uneven cuts, and the final stroke went awry, gouging out a large chunk of flesh and even staining it with a trace of blood.
It was truly a shocking sight.
Qi Puzhi closed her eyes for a moment, letting out a barely audible sigh before refocusing and continuing her work.
That evening, after her shower, Qi Puzhi examined herself in the mirror. The scars on her face had completely vanished, leaving her skin flawless and unblemished.
Pushing open the bathroom door, she looked slightly surprised at the young woman on the sofa. “Not busy today?”
Concerned that Qi Puzhi might feel lonely alone in the hospital room at night, Zhang Hua and Jiang Tian had discussed it and decided that if Jiang Tian was free, she would come; otherwise, Zhang Hua would.
Zhang Hua knew just how packed Jiang Tian’s schedule was, so even though they had agreed on this arrangement, she had already started planning to bring more personal items, assuming she would be the one staying with Qi Puzhi every night.
Yet, as it turned out, over the next few days, not a single night fell to her.
Jiang Tian came every evening.
But she was truly too busy, often arriving late into the night.
Jiang Tian looked up and gave a soft “Mm,” saying, “I finished early today.”
She handed Qi Puzhi a freshly peeled peach.
This peach was beautifully and evenly peeled, even artfully shaped into a plump, rounded heart.
Qi Puzhi looked at the “endearingly cute” peach heart, raised an eyebrow, and smiled. “You peeled it quite nicely.”
Seeing her take it, Jiang Tian picked up the peach peel wrapped in tissue on the table and was about to toss it into the trash when her sharp eyes caught sight of the discarded peach inside. She paused.
“This peach… Did you cut yourself while peeling it, sister?”
Jiang Tian instinctively assumed the bloodstain was from Qi Puzhi accidentally nicking her hand. After throwing away the peel, she immediately wanted to check Qi Puzhi’s hands.
Qi Puzhi shook her head. “A relative peeled it.”
Jiang Tian knew Qi Puzhi didn’t have a good relationship with her family.
Seeing that a relative had come to peel a peach for her, only for it to end up in the trash, it seemed like there was some complicated resentment involved. Her lips parted slightly, but in the end, she didn’t ask anything.
She only said, “You weren’t bullied, were you, sister?”
“What bullying?”
Qi Puzhi used her free hand to gently lift Jiang Tian’s chin, giving her a flirtatious once-over. “I’m the one who does the bullying.”
Jiang Tian obediently let her play the flirt, pressing her lips together slightly. “That’s good.”
The scene felt a bit like when they had first signed the agreement.
But by now, Qi Puzhi was well aware that Jiang Tian was only like this on the surface at any moment, she could reveal her true, wolfish nature.
She withdrew her hand, shooed Jiang Tian off to take a shower, and after finishing the peach, lay back on the bed to play on her phone.
Over the past few days, public opinion had intensified, with the wording in many discussions reaching a point where even a glance felt dirty.
Qi Puzhi watched with weary eyes, no longer able to muster any emotional reaction to such things.
In the end, she grew so tired that she fell asleep half-sprawled on the bed.
In her drowsy state, she felt someone beside her, radiating the warmth and subtle fragrance of a recent shower, leaning in to hold her.
Struggling in her groggy state for a moment, she managed to rouse herself slightly.
“Not going back to sleep?” Jiang Tian whispered.
Qi Puzhi shook her head, her voice slightly muffled. “Haven’t brushed my teeth yet.”
She turned over, nestling comfortably into Jiang Tian’s embrace, and looked up at her.
Jiang Tian’s workplace these days wasn’t particularly close to the hospital. Shuttling back and forth daily, one could easily imagine how exhausting it must be.
Qi Puzhi frowned slightly, her fingertip gently touching the faint dark circles under Jiang Tian’s eyes. She said seriously, “I’m not a child. It’s fine for me to sleep alone in the hospital room; you don’t have to rush over all the time.”
It was both tiring and unsafe.
Jiang Tian blinked, her expression soft and pitiful. “Sister, don’t you want me to sleep with you?”
She knew perfectly well why Qi Puzhi had said that.
Qi Puzhi shot her a reproachful glance, refusing to take the bait of her sly words.
“Then you do want me to,” Jiang Tian chuckled softly, finishing the sentence for her on her own.
She tightened her arms, holding the woman even closer.
Their bodies pressed together seamlessly.
The young woman was soft to hold, her long, curly hair feeling fluffy to the touch. Qi Puzhi felt as if she were being clung to by a big, affectionate dog.
In such an embrace, she inexplicably felt a sense of peace.
The car accident, the rumors whose origins remained unclear, and Qi Hui’s sudden visit had been weighing on her mind. Now, it seemed she could finally relax a little.
And as a result, she grew even sleepier. Qi Puzhi struggled hazily, mustering the last bit of her clarity to say, “I need to brush my teeth.”..”
Jiang Tian watched as the woman in her arms nodded off, fighting a losing battle against sleep, and couldn’t help but laugh softly.
Five minutes later.
Qi Puzhi was panting, her lips flushed red and moist from being thoroughly tasted.
The instigator gazed at her, as if she had merely been offering a helpful hand, and asked with utmost seriousness, “Sister, are you a bit more awake now?”
Media: Condemning and slandering loudly
Qi Puzhi: Getting sleepy watching this, now I know what to do when I can’t sleep next time
Jiang Tian: Sister, but next time you can’t sleep, we could.
Qi Puzhi: (firmly covers her mouth).
