After a Contract Marriage with a Cold and Older Person - Chapter 7
Chapter 7: Misunderstanding
Ji Wenxu had an injured leg, but he walked very quickly, as if he didn’t like the company employees seeing him.
After exiting the elevator, the secretary led him through the office area and straight towards the CEO’s office.
Fortunately, he had changed into a tailored outfit today and specially styled his hair, so even with an injured leg and a crutch.
In the eyes of the people around him, he was just a fallen prince.
The office door was gently pushed open.
The cool air from the air conditioning immediately wrapped around Ji Wenxu’s body. The large temperature difference made him unable to help but sneeze.
The man working at the desk looked up when he heard the sound.
The secretary discreetly withdrew from the office and closed the door behind her.
Song Tingyun glanced at him, then lowered his head to continue working.
Ji Wenxu frowned immediately, just about to voice his dissatisfaction, when Lawyer Xu, sitting on the nearby sofa, suddenly spoke up: “Mr. Ji.”
“Please take a look at the agreement first. The boss is a bit busy with work right now.” Lawyer Xu stood up and invited Ji Wenxu to sit on the sofa.
Ji Wenxu looked back at Song Tingyun, then slowly walked to the sofa with his crutch and sat down.
Lawyer Xu quickly took a thick stack of documents from his briefcase and handed them over, saying, “I have completed the agreement today. Please confirm the content of the agreement first, and if there are no problems, we can sign it.”
Ji Wenxu hummed, reaching out to take the documents.
He read slowly, carefully going over the content several times. Song Tingyun had added a few more clauses, such as that he must accompany Song Tingyun to certain necessary banquets, and that during the duration of the marriage, he could no longer engage in extreme sports…
And a few other clauses.
They were all harmless to Ji Wenxu and nothing he couldn’t accept.
But out of caution, Ji Wenxu still reviewed the document from beginning to end.
The afternoon sun was pleasant.
The warm golden sunlight streamed in diagonally through the glass window, spreading across the office floor.
Ji Wenxu buried his head in the documents, reading seriously. Half an hour passed in the blink of an eye.
“Alright, no problem.” Finally, Ji Wenxu picked up the pen on the table and signed his name quickly.
Hearing the sound, Song Tingyun’s gaze, which had been on the computer screen, also moved to Ji Wenxu. Lawyer Xu took the signed document and gave it to Song Tingyun.
Song Tingyun briefly glanced at his signature, then signed his own name next to it.
After signing, Lawyer Xu took the document back and put it away, saying, “Great, I will handle the rest of the matters as quickly as possible.”
Song Tingyun nodded. Lawyer Xu immediately returned to the sofa, picked up the briefcase on top of it, and left the office.
Ji Wenxu finally had time to seriously examine Song Tingyun’s working environment.
Compared to his father’s office.
This place seemed more monotonous.
A very simple black and white style, the green plants by the window were thriving, the sofa was pure black, and the coffee table was pure white.
It wasn’t jarring, though.
There was a door behind the office chair, which Ji Wenxu guessed must be the lounge.
He walked up to the desk and sat down opposite Song Tingyun with a plop, his uninjured leg propped up high on the desk.
Song Tingyun looked up at him, then silently withdrew his gaze and became busy again.
Ji Wenxu deliberately swung his foot. “Song Tingyun, didn’t you say we were going to my house?”
“Mm, wait a moment,” Song Tingyun said indifferently. “Also, take your foot down.”
Ji Wenxu crossed his arms and snorted: “When will you be done so we can go?”
He looked utterly unwilling, but still took his foot off the desk.
Song Tingyun: “Just a little more to wrap up. Do you want coffee? There’s a coffee machine over there.”
Ji Wenxu: “No.”
Song Tingyun simply stopped talking, and the office fell silent again.
Only the ticking sound of the wall clock could be heard in the background.
Ji Wenxu couldn’t sit still. He leaned on the desk, picked up a pen, and poked at the leaves of a green plant on Song Tingyun’s desk.
Suddenly, a slender and cool hand reached out and took the pen from his hand.
Ji Wenxu was about to lose his temper when he saw Song Tingyun uncapping the pen and writing down work details in a notebook.
He opened his mouth, not knowing what to say. A glance out of the corner of his eye showed a large container of pens in the adjacent pen holder. So, he had deliberately taken the pen from his hand!
Ji Wenxu had nowhere to vent his anger, so he sat on the chair, crossing his arms and sulking for a while.
Fortunately, Song Tingyun finished what he was doing.
He tidied up the desk, stood up, and started unbuttoning his shirt.
Ji Wenxu’s eyes widened: “Y-y-you, why are you taking off your clothes?”
Song Tingyun glanced at him, turned, opened the lounge door, and walked in. After only a few minutes, he walked out wearing a brand new set of clothes.
“Just changing clothes,” Song Tingyun said then.
Ji Wenxu was speechless.
He finally just said: “Let’s go, my family is waiting for us.”
The two walked out of the office together.
The office area, which had previously been buzzing with some chatter, immediately fell silent.
Even though no one spoke, Ji Wenxu felt overwhelmed by their exchanging glances, which were clearly gossiping and looking for dirt.
As if annoyed, he suddenly sped up, leaving Song Tingyun behind, and walked toward the elevator.
Song Tingyun followed closely behind.
Seeing Ji Wenxu’s unpleasant expression, Song Tingyun curved his lips into a slight smile, as if asking knowingly: “What’s wrong?”
Ji Wenxu replied awkwardly: “I’m fine.”
Like he was deliberately throwing a tantrum.
Seeing that he didn’t want to talk, Song Tingyun didn’t bother to press him, just gave a soft “Mm” and stopped looking at him.
Ji Wenxu felt even more annoyed, thinking why this person didn’t bother to ask more questions.
So, when the two walked out of the company building, Ji Wenxu suddenly called out to Song Tingyun, who was walking ahead. “You better explain yourself to your employees.”
Song Tingyun raised an eyebrow: “Explain what?”
His bent eyes beneath his glasses made him look like a fox playing dumb.
Ji Wenxu: “Explain that we have no special relationship at all! The two of us, two single men, stayed in the office for so long, and then you came out having changed your clothes. I don’t believe you didn’t see the way they looked at us!”
Song Tingyun nodded in agreement: “You have a point. But why should I explain?”
“Aren’t we getting married eventually?”
He looked into Ji Wenxu’s eyes and continued, “Since we are getting married, why explain? If we suddenly explain, won’t it look like we are trying to cover up something?”
“To put it bluntly, we would be deceiving them.”
Song Tingyun was very handsome. Just looking at his face, it was hard to tell he had so many cunning thoughts, but he always wore mature suits and slicked his hair back, making him seem mature and calculating.
Ji Wenxu was choked by these words and couldn’t utter a single reply.
“Have it your way, have it your way.” He stormed off in a huff, walking away with his crutch.
Song Tingyun followed slowly.
After getting into the car, Ji Wenxu deliberately put distance between them, leaning against the window and letting the cold outside air blow against his face.
Song Tingyun silently closed the window beside himself.
Song Tingyun’s company and the Ji family home were both in the city center, not far apart. The car arrived in less than half an hour.
The servants at the villa entrance were already waiting. Seeing the car stop, they quickly stepped forward to open the car doors and invited the people inside out.
“Young Master, Mr. Song, you’re finally here.”
“Are we the last ones to arrive?” Ji Wenxu asked after getting out of the car.
The auntie said, “Young Master Pei hasn’t arrived yet. They’re stuck in traffic and will be a while.”
Ji Wenxu ‘Oh’ed, then lifted his foot to walk into the villa. Song Tingyun, standing beside him, cleared his throat lightly.
Ji Wenxu stopped, took a deep breath, and looked at him: “Tingyun, let’s go.”
He knew he had to put on a show in front of the elders.
Song Tingyun stopped him: “Wait a moment, I have something to give Grandpa.”
Ji Wenxu looked at him in confusion. They had been together the whole time; he hadn’t seen Song Tingyun bring anything into the car.
While wondering, the driver who had taken them suddenly opened the trunk and took out a set of expensive tea cakes.
“?” Ji Wenxu looked at Song Tingyun. “When did you prepare that?”
Before Song Tingyun could explain, the driver stepped forward to explain himself: “Just now, while waiting for you and Mr. Song downstairs, Mr. Song’s secretary specifically brought it over.”
“Let’s go,” Song Tingyun took the tea cake gift box from the driver and started walking forward.
He walked with composure, as if returning to his own home.
Ji Wenxu followed.
Upon entering the villa, the other elders of the family immediately rushed forward and surrounded them.
“Tingyun, thank you for coming all this way,” Grandpa said, holding Song Tingyun’s hand.
Song Tingyun smiled back: “The road is not far. As long as your health is good, I can come many times.”
He then handed the tea cake gift box to the auntie next to him, saying, “This is fresh flower tea I asked someone to purchase from Yunnan. It’s good for health.”
“There was no need to bring a gift,” Ji Shuyi pulled Song Tingyun’s hand and seated him on the sofa, instructing someone to pour water for Song Tingyun.
Meng Ying came over and took Ji Wenxu’s arm, smiling lightly, and said, “Just looking at you from afar, I think, you two truly make a handsome couple.”
Ji Wenxu’s lips twitched. “How exactly did you figure that out?”
“Mom is experienced, of course I can tell at a glance,” Meng Ying said, pulling Ji Wenxu to sit on the sofa.
He heard Ji Shuyi talking to Song Tingyun about something.
But seeing Ji Wenxu walking over, the old man deliberately closed his mouth, not letting Ji Wenxu listen. Ji Wenxu crossed his arms and snorted, “I don’t want to hear what you were talking about anyway.”
Song Tingyun pressed his lips together in a slight smile: “It was nothing you couldn’t hear. Grandpa just asked me to take good care of your temper after we get married.”
“Is my temper bad?” Ji Wenxu raised an eye, very unconvinced.
Ji Shuyi waved his hand: “No, your temper is the best.”
“Old Master, Young Master Pei and Young Master Ning are here,” the auntie ran back from the front yard excitedly.
Ji Shuyi was delighted: “Good, good, good, quickly let them in. Now, our entire family is finally gathered.”
Ji Wenxu stood up. Two young men walked in one after another from the entrance. Ji Wenxu quickly waved and greeted: “Cousin!”
