After a Contract Marriage with a Cold and Older Person - Chapter 31
Chapter 31: Sense of Crisis!
The next morning.
A knock sounded on the room door, and Ji Wenxu’s voice barged in, “Song Tingyun, get up, the sun is shining on your butt.”
His voice was cheerful, and a sense of happiness was clearly audible in his tone.
Song Tingyun buttoned the top button of his shirt, opened the door, and walked out.
Ji Wenxu proactively took the suit jacket from his hand. “Let’s go, let’s go. I made a lot of delicious food today.”
Song Tingyun’s gaze lingered on him for a moment. Ji Wenxu was, unusually, wearing a suit today, even with a tie.
Previously, when work required him to wear a suit, Ji Wenxu always used various excuses to push back. He disliked restrictive, formal clothes and always dressed for comfort.
It was evident from his imperfectly tied tie that Ji Wenxu rarely wore suits on a normal day.
Ji Wenxu helped him down the stairs.
As they walked towards the living room, Song Tingyun suddenly called out to him. “What is it?”
Song Tingyun walked forward, reached out, helped untie his necktie, and then tied a perfect Windsor knot.
Ji Wenxu bent down to make it easier for Song Tingyun to tie the tie, then said, “Alas, I’m too clumsy. I just can’t tie it well. You’re amazing.”
Song Tingyun looked up at him, pursed his lips, and said, “Stop being dramatic.”
After dropping that line, Song Tingyun walked toward the dining table without looking back.
Ji Wenxu wasn’t angry at being criticized. He happily followed him, circling Song Tingyun like Xiao Fu, “I was complimenting you.”
Song Tingyun sighed and sat down in the chair, “I’m hungry.”
Once he said that, Ji Wenxu stopped pestering him. He quickly reached for the breakfast items that were further away and placed them near Song Tingyun’s hand. He then sat down in the chair next to Song Tingyun. “Let’s eat, let’s eat.”
“We’ll go to work together after we eat.” He emphasized the word “together.”
Song Tingyun simply said, “Mm.”
…
After breakfast, Ji Wenxu drove the car out of the garage. Song Tingyun waited for him at the door.
Ji Wenxu hadn’t raced in a long time, but his driving skills were still excellent. The car smoothly braked in front of Song Tingyun.
Then the passenger door opened.
Ji Wenxu, “Please.”
Song Tingyun bent down, got into the car, and buckled his seatbelt.
“What music do you want to listen to?” Ji Wenxu drove onto the road and asked.
Song Tingyun took out his tablet and opened work documents. He glanced through the files and slowly said, “Anything.”
Ji Wenxu was dissatisfied with his indifferent attitude. “We haven’t even reached the company. Why are you looking at files again?”
“I’ve fallen behind on work for several days. I’ll have to catch up sooner or later,” Song Tingyun patiently replied.
Ji Wenxu shrugged, “You can delegate some of your work to me. It’s not like I can’t help you now.”
“You have your own work,” Song Tingyun understood Ji Wenxu’s kindness.
Ji Wenxu, “My work is nothing…”
Song Tingyun smiled, adjusted his glasses, and looked at his files. Ji Wenxu also didn’t turn on any music to disrupt Song Tingyun’s focus.
The ride was quiet all the way.
After arriving at the company, the two took the elevator up together.
Song Tingyun hadn’t been to the company for several days, and employees along the way greeted him warmly. Song Tingyun politely nodded.
Ji Wenxu followed behind him, staring at Song Tingyun’s back.
He suddenly remembered that when he first started working here not long ago, the employees privately discussed Song Tingyun.
They discussed whether Song Tingyun was single, and all of them expressed admiration for him.
Song Tingyun had always been good to his employees. Although he always wore a cold expression, the benefits he offered were surprisingly generous. It was no wonder they liked Song Tingyun.
Ji Wenxu wasn’t jealous about this; he was even a bit proud, because the person Song Tingyun was nominally married to was him.
However…
Ji Wenxu suddenly thought, perhaps people don’t know Song Tingyun is married, right?
The only evidence of their marriage, the wedding ring, he had asked Song Tingyun to only wear during necessary occasions, and not to wear it out for others to see at other times.
Damn it.
Ji Wenxu scratched his head at his desk, greatly regretting his actions in the past.
…
At the same time.
In Song Tingyun’s office.
The secretary was reporting on the work that accumulated while he was hospitalized.
“Mr. Ji has handled most of your work for you, except for a few files that require your signature and decision,” the secretary placed all the files processed by Ji Wenxu in front of Song Tingyun.
Song Tingyun casually picked up a file folder and began to look through it.
The secretary smiled, “Mr. Ji handled it very well. Compared to when he first joined the company, he has made great progress. And now the employees below genuinely respect him.”
Song Tingyun tilted his head and glanced at Ji Wenxu’s office next door, feeling a heightened sense of respect for Ji Wenxu.
“I didn’t expect Ji Wenxu to mature so quickly,” Song Tingyun said with a tone of relief.
The secretary slowly left the office.
Song Tingyun slowly reviewed all the work that Ji Wenxu had handled. In the past, they would have divorced soon.
But now, that might not be the case.
Even if he wanted to divorce, Ji Wenxu might be unwilling, right?
“Knock, knock, knock.” The office door was knocked.
Song Tingyun didn’t lift his head, “Come in.”
Ji Wenxu slipped in and plopped down in the chair opposite Song Tingyun. “Song Tingyun, what are you doing?”
Song Tingyun, “Looking for flaws in your work.”
Ji Wenxu’s ears perked up. He casually picked up a document, glanced at it, then said, “Go ahead and look. You absolutely won’t find any mistakes.”
Song Tingyun smiled, “You’re quite confident.”
“Of course,” Ji Wenxu was smug. “You should know who I am.”
Song Tingyun glanced at him and said, “I’ve looked. You really did handle it very well. I didn’t expect you to grow up so fast.”
Ji Wenxu crossed his arms, feeling a little puffed up by the praise, “Of course.”
Song Tingyun then added, “According to our previous agreement, we can almost get a divorce.”
“Do you think we can still celebrate our one-year wedding anniversary?”
Song Tingyun’s calm tone was like announcing a death sentence. Ji Wenxu immediately slapped the table and stood up. “No!”
The loud noise startled Song Tingyun. He put down what he was holding. “What do you mean?”
“We can’t divorce,” Ji Wenxu said. “I don’t know that much. If I take over the company, my dad definitely won’t feel relieved.”
“And…” Ji Wenxu’s mind quickly came up with a lie. “And I’ve asked my cousin for advice on many issues. Don’t think that I know everything.”
Song Tingyun laughed.
“Alright, it seems I really do need to teach you a few more things,” Song Tingyun played along with his lie.
Ji Wenxu quickly nodded, “Yes, exactly!”
…
For the next few days.
Ji Wenxu would go to Song Tingyun’s office whether he had a reason or not.
He would either report on work that didn’t need Song Tingyun’s review or just check up on what he was doing.
For Ji Wenxu, just seeing Song Tingyun seemed to make him happy.
It was Saturday today.
Ji Wenxu finished his breakfast and went upstairs to change. When he came downstairs after changing, he was surprised to see Song Tingyun sitting at the dining table eating his breakfast.
Ji Wenxu was somewhat surprised.
He raised his wrist and looked at the time. It was only 8:30 in the morning, which was not Song Tingyun’s time to wake up at all.
“Oh my,” he walked over lackadaisically and sat next to Song Tingyun. “You’re up so early?”
Song Tingyun took a bite of raw lettuce. “Mm. I have an appointment with someone.”
Ji Wenxu’s ears twitched, and he immediately became alert. He scrutinized Song Tingyun up and down.
Song Tingyun was wearing a loose black sweater underneath today, with a medium-length black trench coat outside, and loose light-colored jeans. His hair was also well-groomed.
This attire suggested he wasn’t going to talk about work.
Ji Wenxu then looked at Song Tingyun’s right ring finger. He wasn’t wearing the wedding ring either.
This meant it wasn’t a private gathering with a business partner.
Ji Wenxu immediately felt a sense of crisis. He took the breakfast from Song Tingyun’s side and moved it away. “Who are you meeting?”
Song Tingyun was puzzled but still patiently answered his question. “A friend.”
Ji Wenxu gasped, “A friend?!”
“You never told me you had any friends?”
Song Tingyun, “He’s a college friend of mine. He’s in Beijing for a business trip, and I’m going to have a meal with him.”
Ji Wenxu frowned, “Does he know you’re married?”
Song Tingyun shook his head, “He doesn’t need to know.”
“Doesn’t need to know?” Ji Wenxu frowned. “Is he the person you told me you liked before?”
Song Tingyun also frowned. “What are you talking about? He’s just a regular friend of mine.”
Ji Wenxu was very unhappy. He took his own wedding ring out of his pocket and placed it on Song Tingyun’s ring finger. “Wear this. You are a married person.”
Song Tingyun looked at the ring on his hand. “You carry the ring with you normally?”
“Just wear it, never mind. You need to keep the ring on properly. I might conduct a surprise inspection,” Ji Wenxu definitely couldn’t interfere with Song Tingyun’s private life, so he could only try this method.
Song Tingyun resignedly said, “Fine, I’ll wear it.”
Ji Wenxu was satisfied and placed the breakfast back in front of Song Tingyun. “If you were going to wake up early, you should have told me. I went to the trouble of preparing your portion of breakfast. This is my health meal. Are you used to eating it?”
“I don’t even know if it’s enough for you,” Ji Wenxu muttered next.
Song Tingyun was in a good mood and replied, “It’s fine.”
“Hmph.” Ji Wenxu walked to the kitchen and got a sandwich for him. “Here, eat the sandwich too.”
Song Tingyun reached out and took it. “Thank you.”
“Why don’t you bring me along? He’s your friend, so let me meet him,” Ji Wenxu was still uneasy.
In his eyes, it was perfectly normal for someone as outstanding and good-looking as Song Tingyun to be liked.
And he didn’t believe Song Tingyun. After all, his current sophisticated outfit didn’t look like he was going to meet just a regular friend.
Song Tingyun refused, “No.”
Ji Wenxu thought to himself that if Song Tingyun didn’t agree, he would just follow him.
Song Tingyun seemed to have read his mind and said, “You can’t follow me either.”
Ji Wenxu, whose plot was exposed, immediately retorted, “I won’t! I’m going to meet my own friends today too.”
Song Tingyun was amused, “Alright, have fun.”
Ji Wenxu snorted. He was angry but couldn’t do anything about Song Tingyun.
However, he also trusted Song Tingyun’s character. He knew Song Tingyun wouldn’t do anything inappropriate. It was Song Tingyun’s friend he was worried about.
