Chapter 27: That Was My First Kiss!
Ji Wenxu was away on a business trip for three days.
He hadn’t contacted Song Tingyun much during these three days. They usually only communicated when Song Tingyun asked about the situation, and Ji Wenxu would tell him to relax and stop worrying.
Song Tingyun felt he really should relax.
It wasn’t that Ji Wenxu didn’t want to contact Song Tingyun.
It was just that he felt he hadn’t completed the work assigned to him by Song Tingyun, and he didn’t have the face to contact him.
Now that he had settled things with Wei Han, and the Art Museum owner had called to say they were ready to sign the contract, Ji Wenxu felt he had perfectly completed his mission.
So, as soon as he got off the plane, he called Song Tingyun.
The phone rang for a long time without being answered.
But shouldn’t this be Song Tingyun’s time to get off work?
Ji Wenxu didn’t think much of it. He dragged his suitcase straight home, but when he opened the door, the inside was pitch black. He turned on the entrance light and glanced at the shoe rack.
It seemed Song Tingyun wasn’t home.
He wasn’t home at this hour and wasn’t answering his phone, so where had he gone?
Ji Wenxu, feeling confused, called Song Tingyun’s secretary.
“The boss has an engagement with General Manager Xu today. Didn’t he tell you?” the secretary sounded surprised.
Ji Wenxu’s expression turned grim, “Do you know the location?”
“I’ll send it to you right now!” The secretary, hearing the displeasure in Ji Wenxu’s tone, quickly replied.
Ji Wenxu thanked him and hung up.
Seeing that the address sent by the secretary wasn’t far from home, Ji Wenxu instinctively planned to drive out and find Song Tingyun.
However, just as his front foot stepped out the door, a thought struck him like lightning. He frowned.
What was this all about? Just because he didn’t see Song Tingyun the moment he returned from his business trip, he was impatiently rushing out to find him?
He wasn’t a child who hadn’t been weaned.
Ji Wenxu turned and went back inside.
As he reached the bottom of the stairs, Song Tingyun suddenly called him back.
He quickly answered, trying to calm his voice, “What is it?”
The person on the other end was silent for a long time before saying, “Didn’t you call me?”
His voice lacked the usual cold aloofness. Instead, it was somewhat slurred and sticky, clearly indicating he had been drinking.
Ji Wenxu gasped, “I got back from my business trip. I just called to let you know.”
“Mm,” Song Tingyun replied, “I have a social engagement here. I’ll probably be home late.”
“How late is late? It’s already half past ten,” Ji Wenxu’s tone was somewhat displeased.
Song Tingyun was silent again for a while, then asked, “So?”
“Are you going to be home at eleven or twelve?” Ji Wenxu was annoyed.
Song Tingyun chuckled, “If I recall correctly, there’s no curfew in the agreement, is there?”
Ji Wenxu was like a firecracker that fizzled out. Just when he was about to explode, he realized he couldn’t make a sound. The key was that he was the one who suggested canceling the curfew!
“Oh, well, why don’t you just not come back tonight then?” Ji Wenxu was so angry his heart hurt.
He had traveled a great distance for a business trip and finalized such a huge deal. Not only did he not receive the praise he deserved upon returning, but he was also left with a stomach full of unvented frustration.
Song Tingyun detected the anger in his voice, paused, and said, “Ji Wenxu, are you angry?”
“What am I angry about?!” Ji Wenxu’s tone was even more explosive after being exposed.
Song Tingyun laughed, then said, “Then are you coming to pick me up? The engagement is over. I’m just sobering up outside right now.”
Ji Wenxu wanted to say he wouldn’t come.
But the words that came out were: “Don’t wander off. I’m coming now.”
“Mm,” Song Tingyun responded vaguely.
Ji Wenxu didn’t even have time to change, heading out the door in his work suit.
It was past rush hour, and the drive was almost entirely unimpeded. He quickly reached the destination.
He took out his phone and called Song Tingyun, but the ringing came from a flower bed nearby. Song Tingyun soon answered the call, “Hello.”
“Hello.”
The voice on the phone overlapped with the real-life voice. Ji Wenxu followed the sound around the flower bed and saw Song Tingyun on a long bench behind it.
He had been drinking. Though his face wasn’t flushed, his neck was faintly rosy, and even his knuckles were pink.
Ji Wenxu hung up the phone.
“Song Tingyun.” He walked up to Song Tingyun and called his name.
Song Tingyun hadn’t been completely drunk originally, but sitting outside and catching the cold air had made the alcohol hit him harder, and his consciousness was just starting to fade.
Hearing Ji Wenxu’s voice, he slowly lifted his head to look at the person in front of him.
“Heh, you actually drank yourself into this state,” Ji Wenxu said, looking down at him with his arms crossed.
Song Tingyun lowered his head again and mumbled, “When did you get back?”
Ji Wenxu sat down next to him. Sure enough, the moment he got close, he smelled a strong alcoholic scent. He frowned and said, “About an hour ago, I guess. Anyway, the first call I made to you was when I got off the plane.”
Song Tingyun stared at the ground, his mind slowly turning. Finally, a bit of sobriety returned. He asked, “How did the talks with Wei Han go?”
Ji Wenxu crossed his arms, his tone smug, “I told you long ago, if I go, you can relax completely.”
“It’s settled. We can go sign the contract with the Art Museum owner the day after tomorrow.”
Song Tingyun chuckled, looked up at him, “Truly impressive.”
“I told you I was impressive,” Ji Wenxu shrugged.
Song Tingyun slowly raised his hand, and under Ji Wenxu’s confused gaze, he gently placed that hand on top of his head, then softly massaged it, “Well done. Very good.”
The drunkenness made his speech very slurred, and his eyes were somewhat blurred, but the hand pressing on Ji Wenxu’s head was using very little force.
“Did you think that when I asked for a reward, you could just use a head pat to cover it?” Ji Wenxu didn’t remove the hand on his head. Instead, he cooperated by leaning down a little, then said, “I don’t accept that. After all, I’m not a three-year-old child.”
Song Tingyun ignored him, continuing to rub his head, “Very good.”
Ji Wenxu rolled his eyes. Seriously, what rational argument could he have with a drunk person?
He took the hand off his head, “Come on, let me take you home first.”
Fortunately, Song Tingyun wasn’t a messy drunk, so he didn’t need to be coaxed and tricked into the car.
Ji Wenxu bent down to fasten his seatbelt, then drove towards home.
Song Tingyun had the window wide open. The cold wind swirled in the car and seeped into the gaps in Ji Wenxu’s clothes, making him shiver. He rolled the window up, “Song Tingyun, what kind of drunk antics are these?”
“I really must owe you something,” Ji Wenxu chattered on, “I just got back from a business trip and came to pick you up. Why didn’t you come to pick me up?”
“Song Tingyun, seriously, it’s your good fortune to know me.”
“So, when we divorce in the future, you’re not allowed to cut ties with me. We can at least be friends, right?”
“Song Tingyun, are you listening?”
Song Tingyun stared at the car ceiling, feeling as if a monk was sitting next to him, constantly chanting scriptures, and his head was about to explode.
So, right in front of Ji Wenxu, he slowly raised his hands and covered his ears.
Ji Wenxu instantly blew up. He shouted angrily, “Song Tingyun! You’ve made me angry!”
Song Tingyun quietly turned his head, focusing his gaze outside the car.
“Song Tingyun, I won’t forgive you. Do you know how much you hurt my feelings?”
So noisy. Even with his ears covered, it was noisy. So noisy it was making him less drunk.
He wondered confusedly, wouldn’t Ji Wenxu’s throat get dry?
Just as he was thinking of a way to make Ji Wenxu shut up, something by the roadside suddenly caught his attention.
He rolled down the window again, “Stop the car.”
“What for?” Ji Wenxu was alert.
Song Tingyun poked half his head out, “Stop the car…”
Ji Wenxu quickly pulled over to the side of the road and slammed on the brakes. As soon as the car stopped, Song Tingyun opened the door and got out.
Ji Wenxu also quickly got out of the car and chased after him, “Song Tingyun, what are you doing?”
Coming around the back of the car, he saw Song Tingyun squatting by the roadside, quietly looking at a small dog curled up under a streetlamp.
Its appearance was too blurry to see clearly. Its fur was severely matted and dirty. It was a very small dog, huddled under the streetlamp. Winter had already arrived in Beijing, and the puppy was trembling with cold. If no one rescued it tonight, it would likely freeze to death.
Ji Wenxu, with his arms crossed, looked down at the person and the dog, “What, are you going to save it?”
Song Tingyun said in a low voice, “Let’s take it home. I want to keep a puppy, a puppy that belongs to me.”
Ji Wenxu gasped, “Didn’t you explicitly forbid me from having a dog before? What’s the meaning of this now?”
He had guessed Song Tingyun would save the dog, but he hadn’t expected him to want to keep it.
“I want to keep it,” Song Tingyun said.
Ji Wenxu took out his phone and started recording a video, “Are you serious?”
After all, Song Tingyun was drunk and not fully conscious right now, making it easy to make wrong decisions. Just as work needed a paper trail, this moment needed one too.
Song Tingyun nodded, “I want to keep it.”
Ji Wenxu readily agreed, “OK, let’s keep it!”
He retrieved a blanket from the car’s trunk, wrapped the puppy in it for Song Tingyun to hold, then navigated to the nearest pet hospital, driving them there.
After much commotion.
The two of them didn’t return home until the early hours of the morning.
The puppy was left at the pet hospital for care, and only the two of them returned home.
Adhering to the principle of seeing a good deed through to the end, Ji Wenxu carried Song Tingyun upstairs and took him to his room.
Then, he manually helped remove Song Tingyun’s jacket, found a set of pajamas, and handed them to him, “Change your clothes. Can you manage it yourself?”
Song Tingyun fell back onto the bed, his action refusing the notion of changing clothes.
“Fine, then sleep in your clothes,” Ji Wenxu didn’t want to change Song Tingyun’s clothes. Otherwise, when he woke up tomorrow, he might scold him for taking advantage of him.
Ji Wenxu turned and walked towards the door, but his back foot paused just as he reached the edge of the door.
“I really must owe you something,” he walked back to the bed and began to unbutton Song Tingyun’s shirt. Song Tingyun wasn’t noisy, remaining in the dazed, confused state of a drunken person.
It was a blessing from the ancestors that he wasn’t being a disorderly drunk, Ji Wenxu thought to himself.
Song Tingyun’s physique was different from a gym-goer’s. He had no belly fat, but his abdominal muscles weren’t tight either. His waistline, however, was extremely good-looking, and his spine was beautifully formed.
Ji Wenxu felt he was acting too strangely.
He quietly shifted his gaze away from looking at him. He quickly helped him put on the pajama top and bottoms, then leaned in to help button up the shirt.
Song Tingyun tilted his head and looked at him, “Ji Wenxu, why are you here?”
Ji Wenxu sneered, “Heh heh, why do you think I’m here?”
Song Tingyun slowly raised his hand, placed it on top of Ji Wenxu’s head, and continued, “You’re very good.”
Ji Wenxu, “I know I’m very good, but don’t think a simple head pat can offset the reward. I closed a big deal.”
“Also, I came to pick you up right after I got off the plane today, and I even changed your clothes and waited on you. A good man like me is hard to find even with a lantern, you know?”
“You must remember the favor today.”
“You’re not allowed to hit my head anymore.”
…
So noisy. Why was the monk chanting again?
Song Tingyun felt he couldn’t take the monk’s chanting anymore. His head slumped forward, and he passed out.
At the exact moment that a cool, soft sensation touched his lips.
Ji Wenxu had just finished buttoning the last button of Song Tingyun’s pajamas.
Ji Wenxu held the person who had collapsed into his arms. He knew exactly what that sensation on his lips was.
Logically, shouldn’t he feel disgusted right away?
That was his first kiss.
Stolen by a drunken man.
But he wasn’t angry, and even…
Ji Wenxu covered his heart. His heart was even racing.
No, this must be out of anger, right?!
Ji Wenxu helped Song Tingyun onto the bed, covered him with the blanket, and pointed at him, saying, “Song Tingyun, you’d better remember everything that happened today. Since you stole my first kiss, I’m definitely making you my errand boy for a hundred days!!”
