- Chapter 21 - Spoiled and Arrogant
A pile of discarded packaging lay scattered across the coffee table, and the air was thick with a sickly sweet aroma.
Qin Xiaoxiao clutched her stomach, sprawled listlessly on the left side of the sofa. Her previously groomed hair was spread out like spilled ink against the cushions, her dignified image completely vanished.
Meanwhile, the girl with the chestnut bob leaned back on the right side. Her gaze toward the glamorous woman was full of helplessness, though a few traces of doting affection were hidden within.
The two possessed entirely different auras. One was like a thorny red rose—bold, bright, and flamboyant. The other was like spring tea—light yet long-lasting, with a sweet, lingering aftertaste. Their styles were as distinct as an oil painting versus a watercolor, yet sitting together, they appeared exceptionally harmonious, the atmosphere between them perfectly blended.
When the manager returned, this was the scene she walked into. It was a rather heartwarming sight, but she didn’t overthink it; she simply found them exceptionally pleasing to the eye.
She immediately shifted her focus to the popular starlet, stepping forward. “Oh, Miss Qu! You arrived so early. Welcome, welcome!”
She then glanced at the messy table, thinking to herself that once Qu Li left, she had to tell her artist to clean up after herself. Leaving the room in a shambles with a guest present—it was unseemly.
“Thank you.” Noticing the manager’s stiff formality, Qu Li smiled. “Don’t mind me. Just act as you usually do.”
“She’s right, ignore her,” Qin Xiaoxiao chimed in, her voice weak. “Look at me instead… I’m about to die.”
Hearing this, the manager looked at the woman and frowned. “What’s wrong with you?”
“She seduced me first,” Qin Xiaoxiao propped herself up and pointed an accusatory finger at Qu Li. “She intentionally brought so much chocolate that I ate myself into a stupor.”
The manager froze. “Huh?”
“Sorry, I couldn’t stop her.” Qu Li recalled the way Qin Xiaoxiao had “guarded her food” earlier; she couldn’t get the chocolate back and could only watch as the girl ate it all bit by bit. She was quite helpless.
Understanding the gist of the situation, the manager turned back to Qin Xiaoxiao. Her lip twitched as she scolded, “How old are you? Still acting like such a child.”
“Should I buy you some digestive tablets?”
“I… fine.”
“Wait here.” With that, Lin Yu set down the takeout and hurried back out the door.
The door clicked shut. The room returned to silence.
Backing against the sofa, Qin Xiaoxiao had initially intended to argue with the manager. But on second thought, she realized the woman’s words actually made sense. Wasn’t this acting like a child?
Just because she felt annoyed at being teased, plus her hunger, she had spitefully eaten all the chocolate. It was incredibly immature behavior, as if her IQ automatically dropped the moment she encountered Qu Li.
At this thought, Qin Xiaoxiao shifted her gaze to Qu Li. Perhaps her being so willful and unreasonable was a way of testing the other person’s limits—an attempt to break that smiling mask and see if that face could show any expression other than that ethereal tenderness. Even anger would do.
Unfortunately, there was nothing. Even when Qu Li was dazed, she looked beautiful. It was as if the word “anger” didn’t exist in her dictionary.
What should I do? Now I want to make her angry even more.
Qin Xiaoxiao’s playful heart was stirred. “It’s all your fault. How do you plan to compensate me?” she asked.
Generally speaking, when faced with someone being unreasonable and making a scene, one would inevitably feel impatient. It would be best if she annoyed Qu Li until she couldn’t stand it and left, giving Qin Xiaoxiao some peace.
Qu Li thought for a moment and said seriously, “How about I compensate you with the rest of my life?”
Qin Xiaoxiao: “…”
What the hell is ‘lower half of the body’ (下半身)?!
[#Another-case-of-someone-with-abnormal-logic-series] [#Why-does-she-never-follow-the-script]
“Never mind.”
Qin Xiaoxiao had unfortunately misheard the homophone. She thought to herself that this starlet sure had “heavy” tastes. She muttered quietly, “Who wants your lower half? You can’t boil it for soup or eat it for dinner.”
“Hmph.” Finally, she turned her head away with a huff.
Qu Li also turned her head back, looking a bit disappointed.
The cat-shaped clock on the wall ticked away. In the quiet room, it sounded excessively loud.
“Is it very uncomfortable?” Qu Li asked from the side. Her expression was calm, but her two fingers under her sleeve were rubbing against each other.
Qin Xiaoxiao replied, “It is.” Though it might have been psychological, she felt a bit better after saying it out loud.
Qu Li turned her head, her gaze traveling from Qin Xiaoxiao’s face all the way down, skimming past the graceful curves of her chest and stopping at her flat abdomen.
After a long pause, she let out: “This can’t go on. It’s bad for your health. You have to practice more restraint in the future.”
Even though Qin Xiaoxiao knew Qu Li meant it literally, with no hidden meaning, she somehow heard something “dirty” in it. She repented. She reflected. Not just for her own impure thoughts, but also for the “suicidal” act of gorging on chocolate.
She could only say that this body wasn’t very adaptable. If it were her original body, let alone one bag, she could eat a whole sack of chocolate as a snack without issue. But now, more than the fullness of her stomach, it was the cloying sweetness spreading across her throat and tongue that made her feel nauseous.
Judging by the physical reaction, Qin Xiaoxiao guessed that the original host didn’t like sweets. Eating so much at once made the rejection crystal clear. As a lover of sweets, Qin Xiaoxiao closed her eyes in despair, exhausted in both body and mind.
They sat for another five minutes. Suddenly, the phone rang.
Qin Xiaoxiao picked it up and saw it was the manager. “Hello,” she answered, rubbing her stomach and speaking gloomily. “Where are you? I’ve been waiting for you until the flowers have withered.”
“Across from the company.”
“Why are you calling me instead of coming over?” Qin Xiaoxiao arched an eyebrow. “You don’t expect me to open the door and welcome you, do you?”
“No, no, no! Don’t open the door!!” Lin Yu shouted agitatedly. “Whatever you do, don’t open the door!”
“What?”
“When I came out of the pharmacy, I saw a massive horde of paparazzi and reporters rushing toward our company. They’re probably here to intercept Qu Li.”
“Listen to me, you two need to escape now. The company has a back door—you know where it is!”
Qin Xiaoxiao was speechless. Cold sweat dripped from her brow.
The original host knows, but I don’t!
