- Achieving A Happy Ending With The Tragic Female Lead [Quick Transmigration]
- Chapter 70 - Rivals X Fake Heiress
Due to Su Mi’s status, no one dared to step forward and question her when she stayed on set after finishing her scenes. The director was too busy directing to pay her any mind, giving her this perfect opportunity.
On set, Guan Yue shed her youthful air, when she was serious, she truly possessed a mature and steady demeanor. It seemed that only in Su Mi’s presence would she reveal her “claws and teeth” side, vivid and brilliant.
Perhaps because Su Mi was watching too intently, the person being watched seemed to sense it. Guan Yue turned her head as if by accident and locked eyes with her instantly.
They were separated by numerous lighting rigs and set pieces, able to see each other only through narrow gaps. Yet, they managed to lock eyes nonetheless.
Su Mi gave Guan Yue a friendly smile. Upon seeing it, the latter pursed her lips slightly and looked away, though she was clearly distracted while speaking to others afterward.
At that moment, Xiao Xin walked over after finishing a phone call and reported the contents of Sister Yu’s call to Su Mi. After listening, Su Mi acknowledged it and told Xiao Xin she could take the car back to the hotel to rest first, as Su Mi would be returning later.
Xiao Xin paused, sensing a hint of being dismissed. “Then what time will you be heading back, Teacher Su? I’ll tell the driver to come pick you up.”
“No need,” Su Mi declined. “I can take someone else’s car back.”
Being clever, Xiao Xin understood immediately. “Alright, Teacher Su, I understand.” Before leaving, Xiao Xin found a lounge chair for Su Mi so she wouldn’t be so conspicuously standing outside the set, which was very eye-catching.
Most of Guan Yue’s afternoon scenes were solo shots, but she struggled to get into character at first. The director wasn’t the type to settle for “good enough,” so it took several NGs before she found her rhythm. They took less than a thirty minutes break for dinner before diving back into the intense filming schedule.
By the time everything wrapped up, it was nearly 10:00 PM, and the sky outside had long since turned dark.
A relieved Guan Yue finished work and wanted to head back to the hotel without even removing her makeup or costume, but she didn’t expect to run into Su Mi at the entrance.
“Why are you still here?” She had seen Su Mi on set earlier but assumed she would leave shortly after. Later, she was too preoccupied with her acting to notice anything else. Who knew this person would still be here?
Su Mi said, “Waiting for you.”
Guan Yue’s face flickered with a hint of unease, and her voice wavered slightly. “W-what are you waiting for me for?”
Su Mi: “I didn’t take my room card when I went out.”
“Then you can go to the front desk. Besides, you have an assistant,” Guan Yue said immediately.
“I don’t want to look for them. And besides the room card, you owe me something else. I’ve come to collect,” Su Mi said calmly.
A sense of apprehension rose in Guan Yue’s heart. “What thing?”
Su Mi took a step forward. “Don’t you remember?”
Hearing this, alarm bells rang in Guan Yue’s head. Using every ounce of her acting skills, she kept her voice steady: “I get sleepy and go to bed after drinking. How could I remember anything?”
Hearing this, Su Mi said generously, “It’s fine if you don’t remember. As long as I do.”
“No, what exactly do I owe you?” Guan Yue asked while trying to recall, but she accidentally strayed toward thoughts she shouldn’t have and quickly cut them off.
Su Mi smiled softly, leaning in to whisper, “The tutoring fee.”
Her voice was light, clear, and clean, and the deliberately drawn-out ending felt like a scratch against the heart. As soon as she spoke, Su Mi saw Guan Yue reveal a startled expression, hardly the look of someone who remembered nothing.
Before Su Mi could say anything more, Guan Yue suddenly pushed her shoulder and greeted someone behind Su Mi with full energy: “Hello, Director!”
The director, who was looking down while putting on a hat, was startled by the sudden greeting. Looking up and seeing the two leads together, he smiled and said, “The two of you haven’t left yet? Oh, Teacher Su, I didn’t see your car outside.”
“Teacher Guan said she would take me back,” Su Mi spoke up.
Guan Yue looked at her in disbelief, but with the director right there, she couldn’t say anything.
The director didn’t find it strange, in fact, he was happy to see the two female leads getting along so well. “Is that so? Then be careful on the road back, you two.”
The facade of peace between the two lasted until the director departed.
“Why do you have to come back with me? Where are your assistant and driver?” Guan Yue asked with a frown.
“They went back first.” Su Mi deliberately hid the fact that she was the one who told them to leave.
“They just left you here alone?” Guan Yue didn’t understand. Was her team a bunch of amateurs? How could they just leave their boss here, especially so late at night? Weren’t they worried about her?
Seeing the emotions Guan Yue was unconsciously revealing, Su Mi’s mood suddenly improved.
Not far away, the little assistant had her back to them. Hearing this, she couldn’t help but sigh. Her Sister Guan was clearly smart at times, so why couldn’t she figure it out now? Perhaps love truly makes one blind.
Furthermore, she was especially grateful for the director’s decision not to allow any fans on set to take photos. Otherwise, if a scene like this were captured, it would be a disaster, the world would be turned upside down.
It was hard to catch a taxi late at night in this area, and since Su Mi had already told the director she was riding with Guan Yue, Guan Yue eventually agreed to let her into the car.
The assistant sat in the passenger seat, while Su Mi and Guan Yue occupied the back. Because there was an “outsider” in the car, both women restrained themselves significantly.
Still, Guan Yue felt a bit uneasy, so she picked up her script and began leafing through it randomly.
Beside her, Su Mi warned: “This road is too bumpy. If you look at the script for too long, you might feel unwell.”
Guan Yue gave her a dissatisfied look and then, as if out of spite, turned her face away and insisted on reading. This person used to control her in the past, and she still wanted to control her now.
Watching Guan Yue’s expression, Su Mi could more or less guess what she was grumbling about. Having seen so much of her “obedient” side, seeing Guan Yue like this suddenly made Su Mi feel a bit nostalgic.
However, there seemed to be many mysteries surrounding this version of Guan Yue. For example, why did she distance herself and hate Su Mi? And why did she lie about not having that mark on her back when it clearly existed? Was it pure stubbornness, or was there another reason?
Su Mi didn’t shy away from her gaze, making Guan Yue so restless that she eventually held the script open to hide her face.
In the front, the assistant hugged her backpack while she and the driver stared straight ahead, as still and quiet as if they were taking a driving test.
About thirty or forty minutes later, the car returned to the hotel entrance. The assistant didn’t get out; she still had to go buy some things with the driver.
Su Mi was the first to open the door and step out, then she reached out a hand toward Guan Yue inside. Guan Yue placed her script on the seat cushion and looked at Su Mi’s outstretched hand, not wanting to touch it.
But as she prepared to step out herself, she felt a wave of dizziness.
Su Mi caught her, her tone a bit helpless: “Didn’t I warn you not to read the script on a bumpy road?”
Guan Yue knew she was in the wrong but couldn’t bring herself to lose face. Once the dizziness passed, she stood up on her own and said stubbornly, “It’s not because of that.”
Su Mi didn’t argue. After confirming she was okay, she took the items Guan Yue had been holding before getting into the car. “Let’s go.”
She spoke and took the lead into the hotel, soon hearing the sound of the other woman following behind.
“Give me back my bag,” Guan Yue said once they were alone in the elevator.
Su Mi complied and watched her begin to rummage through it. Probably because there were too many things in the bag, Guan Yue searched for a long time without finding what she wanted.
As the elevator doors slowly opened at their floor, Su Mi said, “Go out first before you keep looking.”
The two of them walked slowly to their room doors, and Guan Yue still hadn’t found it.
“What are you looking for?”
“Your room card. I clearly remember putting it in here.” Guan Yue almost buried her head in the bag to find it.
Su Mi “rescued” her head and smoothed out her messy hair. “Forget it if you really can’t find it.”
Guan Yue looked up and gave up decisively. “Then go to the front desk to get the door opened. I’ll look for the card again in a bit.”
She briskly zipped her bag and swiped her own card to open the door to the neighboring room, but as she walked in, she felt something was off.
Guan Yue looked back and saw Su Mi had followed her in. She asked in confusion, “How old are you? You don’t need me to accompany you to the front desk, do you?”
“My room is inaccessible because of you, so I can only come to yours.” Su Mi’s words were self-righteous, and her tone left no room for fault.
“That’s why I told you to find the front desk,” Guan Yue said, puzzled.
Su Mi gave her a faint sideways glance. “I can rest here just as well. Since you still owe me the tutoring fee, we might as well use this to offset it.”
These shameless words stunned Guan Yue for a moment, leaving her unsure which part of the sentence to argue with first.
“What tutoring fee? Offset? You…”
Guan Yue’s subsequent words were cut off by Su Mi’s sudden approach. Using her height advantage, Su Mi pinned her against the wall. “Do you need me to help you recall how we ‘tutored’ each other after we came back today?”
Guan Yue’s cheeks and ears flushed a deep red instantly, a hue that even her foundation couldn’t mask.
Su Mi reached out and lightly touched her ear, whispering, “It’s red.”
Now even Guan Yue’s neck turned red. “You… why are you standing s-s-so close? It’s sweltering.” She reached out to push Su Mi away but couldn’t move her.
“So, do you or do you not remember what happened this morning?” Su Mi withdrew her hand, her expression turning slightly serious.
“…This morning we were filming, and then I fell asleep on the way back to the hotel. I don’t remember anything else.” After speaking, Guan Yue shot her a quick glance, looking like a child afraid of being caught doing something bad.
Su Mi noticed her little habit, she always bit her lower lip when she was nervous. Looking at the little liar playing dumb in front of her, Su Mi suddenly tilted her head and kissed her on the lips.
“Do you remember now?”
Guan Yue looked at Su Mi in disbelief, her mouth slightly open, unable to make a sound. Su Mi found her adorable, her lips curling into an uncontrollable smile as her long fingers brushed against Guan Yue’s fair neck.
At that moment, what flashed through Guan Yue’s mind was the moment after filming ended that morning. At that time, she had felt hazy and sluggish because of the alcohol. But that cool sensation on her lips when Su Mi finally left… it really wasn’t her imagination.
“Su Mi, you…” Guan Yue swallowed hard. “Are you still unable to get out of character?”
It wasn’t unheard of in the industry for an actor to fall too deep into a role and struggle to separate themselves from it. Although she didn’t think Su Mi would be like that, it was the most plausible reason she could find right now.
Su Mi’s fingers paused. “Guan Yue, I know exactly what I am doing. I’ve wanted to do this for a long time.”
To kiss her, to hold her, to have her eyes only on herself. These were the things Su Mi wanted to reclaim.
Guan Yue immediately pressed herself tighter against the wall, finally squeezing out a sentence: “Su Mi, are you secretly in love with me?”
Su Mi leaned closer and let out a soft sigh. Guan Yue had never been this nervous because of another person, her hands hanging at her sides gripped her clothes tightly. Looking at those approaching lips, a faint sense of anticipation actually rose in her heart.
Could it be that she hadn’t gotten out of character either?
Su Mi’s gaze also fell on those lovely lips, but just as they were about to touch, she veered away. She leaned down to embrace her, tilting her head toward that reddened ear. As her lips moved, they brushed against the soft earlobe.
“Guan Yue, this is called… being openly in love.”
