Achieving A Happy Ending With The Tragic Female Lead [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 64.1
“Just a little?” Guan Yue looked at her in disbelief, then at Su Mi’s hand, biting her lip. “I don’t know if there’s a hospital nearby. I’ll call someone to take you for an X-ray to make sure no bones are broken.”
She turned to grab her phone. Su Mi used her other hand to stop her, the plastic bag rustling with the movement.
“It’s not serious. Besides, I happened to bring ointment for bruises.”
“Why did you buy that?” Guan Yue asked, confused.
Su Mi’s gaze fell on her waist. “Your back didn’t look good.”
Guan Yue’s face flushed for some reason. She snapped back, “You’re the one with the bad back! Your whole family has a bad back!”
Though she was cursing in her head, Guan Yue let her in. After all, Su Mi’s hand injury was her responsibility, so she planned to help her apply the medicine.
“Fine, sit there,” Guan Yue signaled to the other end of the sofa and began studying the instructions on the ointment. There was a spray and a cream meant to be used together, and the bag included cotton swabs.
“Hand,” Guan Yue said haughtily.
Su Mi placed her injured hand in front of her. Her cold, white wrist was exposed, the blue veins on the back of her hand clearly visible. Her fingers were long and straight, and the spot caught by the door had already developed a clear red mark.
Seeing Guan Yue’s furrowed brows, Su Mi lightly tapped the injured spot with her finger. “Is the bone really not hurt?”
“Mhm, it’s not.”
Guan Yue shot her a look, opened the spray, gently held her finger, and applied the cool mist. She even instinctively blew on it to make it dry faster. She quickly stopped herself, then calmly opened the ointment and used a cotton swab to spread it over the red mark.
“I think you’re crazy. How could you just stick your hand in there? If something really happened to you, my parents would definitely…”
Guan Yue’s voice stopped abruptly, and her hand froze. After a moment, she resumed applying the cream, but she had become much quieter.
In the past, their families lived close to each other. When their parents weren’t home, the Guan family’s nanny would take Guan Yue to the Su house so the two children could play. Children often bickered, but it was usually Guan Yue “bullying” Su Mi, who was two years older. Occasionally, Su Mi would end up with a small scratch, and Guan Yue would be lectured by her parents. Over time, whenever Su Mi was injured, it was assumed that Guan Yue’s naughtiness was the cause.
Guan Yue felt she had become too comfortable. Seeing an “old acquaintance” had made her speak without thinking. She wondered what Su Mi would think of her. Now that she had severed ties with the Guan family, would Su Mi think she was being hypocritical by bringing up the past?
Agitated by the thought, Guan Yue lost her patience and finished up hurriedly. “There, all done.”
Su Mi felt the hand holding hers let go without hesitation. She looked at the ointment on her finger but didn’t move.
“Why aren’t you leaving?” Guan Yue started to usher her out.
Su Mi looked up at her. “I haven’t seen your back yet.”
Guan Yue’s face turned red. “…Su Mi, are you some kind of pervert?”
Su Mi was long used to her erratic train of thought. ” I’m talking about where you got hit. Didn’t it hurt a lot earlier?” At the time, her face had gone pale with pain, yet she had stubbornly refused to let Su Mi near.
Guan Yue’s face turned shades of red and green as she continued to act tough. “Of course I know that’s what you meant! What else could it be?”
The corner of Su Mi’s mouth twitched upward. “Turn around, let me see.”
Hearing this, Guan Yue instinctively started to turn but immediately realized that they had been out of each other’s lives for ages. Why should she listen to her? “Thanks for the concern, but I’m perfectly fine.”
Su Mi clearly didn’t believe her. To prove she was okay, Guan Yue stood up and did a small twist, but as she leaned forward, she accidentally triggered the injury. She lost her balance and tumbled directly into Su Mi’s arms.
Sitting on the sofa, Su Mi caught her in a full embrace. The scent of Guan Yue’s fragrance filled her nose. Time seemed to stand still.
Su Mi looked up slightly at Guan Yue. Under the light, her pale eyes seemed to darken. The way Su Mi looked at her reminded Guan Yue of their first scene that gaze that seemed like it wanted to devour her. She truly looked like a female bandit coming to snatch a bride.
As Guan Yue tried to pull away, she winced and leaned back into Su Mi, likely having aggravated the pain.
“And you call this ‘perfectly fine’?”
Guan Yue was annoyed. “None of your business! Even if I die of pain. ” Her words were cut off by Su Mi’s palm over her mouth.
Su Mi looked down at her and said calmly, “Don’t say that word so carelessly.”
Unable to resist, Guan Yue could only seethe in silence.
“If you don’t want me to touch you, you can call your assistant. I just want to see how it looks,” Su Mi offered a compromise.
Guan Yue was someone who responded better to softness than force. Since Su Mi put it that way, she didn’t refuse again. She got up and turned around, but then realized that lifting her shirt while sitting there was awkward. She suggested she lie on the bed for the check-up. Su Mi agreed.
But once Guan Yue was actually lying on the bed, she felt it was even more awkward. She was about to suggest a different way when she felt her shirt being gently lifted. The cool air hit her skin, followed by a cold sensation that made her waist muscles tense instinctively.
Su Mi wasn’t just standing by the bed, she had one knee on the edge of the mattress, leaning over with one hand supporting herself as she inspected the bruise. There were two thumb sized bruises on Guan Yue’s waist, ranging from dark to light purple. She traced the edge of the bruise with her finger. The familiar soft texture of the skin made her momentarily lose herself in thought.
Lying there, Guan Yue felt the strange sensation of Su Mi’s touch. Although it was a cool touch, the area felt like it was being branded by a hot iron.
“Hey, Su! You said you wouldn’t touch!” Guan Yue couldn’t help but turn her head to glare at her.
Su Mi stopped and withdrew her hand, her voice as cool as ever. “Sorry.” Though she said the words, there wasn’t a hint of apology in her tone.
Guan Yue gave a silent huff. This person hasn’t changed at all.
“The bruise is already quite dark; you need medicine,” Su Mi said, pausing. “If you need…”
Guan Yue cut her off decisively. “I don’t need you. I can do it myself, or I can call Xiao Yang.” Xiao Yang was her assistant.
Su Mi smoothed Guan Yue’s shirt back down, but her gaze lingered on the woman’s back. If I could just see it… just once…
Guan Yue rolled over and sat up. “You’ve seen it. Why are you still here?”
Su Mi realized she really had no more reason to stay. She rubbed her fingertips together. “Then rest early.” She stood up and walked to the door.
Guan Yue watched her leave and close the door. She let out a long sigh of relief and buried her face in the bed, letting out a muffled groan. “Truly annoying to the core.”
Back in her own room, Su Mi searched her memory again for any recollection of Guan Yue’s back or a specific mark. She had even searched online for Guan Yue’s photos and event pictures, but because Guan Yue wasn’t very famous, there weren’t many. None of the available photos showed her in backless gowns. Although she was almost certain Guan Yue was the person she was looking for, without that final piece of the puzzle, she couldn’t feel truly settled.
Su Mi was not a patient person, she never had been. After a moment of thought, she went back and knocked on Guan Yue’s door again.
This time, it took a while for Guan Yue to open the door. When she saw Su Mi, she took a deep breath, the words “What now?!” practically written on her face. But this time, mindful of Su Mi’s injured hand, she didn’t dare slam the door.
“Is there something else?”
Su Mi: “I want to ask you something.”
Guan Yue thought it was strange, what could be so urgent? “What?”
“On your back, is there a mark shaped like a frost flower?” Su Mi asked bluntly.
“No,” Guan Yue said without hesitation.
Su Mi’s gaze instantly darkened, her voice icy. “Guan Yue, don’t lie to me.”
“I said no, so there isn’t,” Guan Yue said, gripping the ointment in her hand. “What, do I have to strip for you to see?”
