- Chapter 60 - The Aloof Professor X The Sweet Beauty
After leaving the classroom, Su Mi ran into Teacher Xu, a colleague from her office, in the corridor. She vaguely remembered that the other woman’s name was on the list of teachers attending the gathering that evening.
Teacher Xu greeted her: “Professor Su, do you want to head over with us tonight?”
“No, I have to stop by home first. You guys go ahead, Teacher Xu,” Su Mi refused politely.
Teacher Xu wasn’t surprised to hear this, only smiling teasingly: “It really is hard to get an appointment with Professor Su. Well, see you tonight then.”
“See you tonight.”
Su Mi had parked her car in the school’s underground garage today. On her way there, she began typing a message to Lin Nanyue to ask where she was, but before she could finish, her path was blocked by someone wearing a baseball cap.
She frowned at the person, and just as she was about to step aside, she grew suspicious. She reached out and tilted the low-pressed brim of the cap upward, revealing Lin Nanyue’s familiar eyes.
Su Mi’s brows knitted slightly, and she tapped the bridge of Lin Nanyue’s nose through her mask: “What’s with this getup?”
Lin Nanyue blinked, “I’m just ‘sailing the ship of caution to stay safe forever.'”
She had been cramming a lot of knowledge lately. Although society was much more open to their community now, Su Mi was a university professor, there was no guarantee someone wouldn’t harbor ill intentions. There were plenty of regrettable cases like that online.
Su Mi lowered her hand and directly took her hand in hers. The latter struggled for a brief moment.
“We’re still at school.”
Su Mi glanced at her: “In this state, even a professional paparazzi wouldn’t recognize you.”
Lin Nanyue was pulled along, still muttering: “Is that a compliment? I feel like something’s not quite right.”
Su Mi led her to Section B of the parking garage to find the car, then opened the passenger door for her. Once Lin Nanyue was inside, Su Mi closed the door and circled to the driver’s side.
As she buckled her seatbelt, she saw Lin Nanyue still dressed in her disguise. “Aren’t you taking that off yet?”
Lin Nanyue shook her head: “What if someone sees me through the windshield?”
Su Mi smiled and shook her head slightly, letting her have her way.
“The party starts at six. We still have time, so let’s head home first,” Su Mi said as she backed out of the parking space.
“Mm, okay,” Lin Nanyue nodded obediently beside her.
As the car passed over a speed bump, Su Mi glanced at her surroundings and asked, “How did the interview go today? Are you confident?”
“A bit nervous, but overall it was okay, thanks to Sister Lingyin.” Lin Nanyue had received the interview notice early yesterday morning and was incredibly anxious. Eventually, Su Mi couldn’t watch any longer and directly brought Song Lingyin over to help coach her for the entire afternoon.
To avoid the crowds, Su Mi intentionally drove onto another road in the school where there were relatively fewer students.
The school had speed limits, so she didn’t drive fast. Occasionally, a student walking toward them would recognize Su Mi, but they couldn’t recognize the person in the passenger seat at all.
“See, I was prepared for anything,” Lin Nanyue said in a boastful tone.
Su Mi smiled at her words, neither confirming nor denying.
Once the car left the school grounds, Lin Nanyue finally shed her disguise. Her stray hairs had been flattened a bit by the baseball cap.
Because of the interview, Lin Nanyue had applied light makeup today, making her features look more refined.
During a gap while waiting for a green light, Su Mi took a few extra glances, making Lin Nanyue feel a bit shy.
There was no traffic today, and they reached home without any obstacles.
Upon arriving, Su Mi went to the bedroom to change her clothes. Lin Nanyue followed her in.
Watching Su Mi open the wardrobe, she let out a cry of surprise: “Professor Su, why is your closet full of shirts and pants? I thought there’d be at least one or two dresses.”
“These are all for convenience during the commute.” On weekdays, Su Mi preferred a simple style for work; she only wore other things for truly formal occasions. As for tonight, she didn’t plan on dressing too formally either.
When it was time to change, Lin Nanyue proactively exited the room to give her space. By the time Su Mi came out in her new outfit, Lin Nanyue was sitting in the living room holding her phone.
Su Mi checked the time, it was still quite early, and they could stay home for a while. She walked over and sat down beside Lin Nanyue.
Seeing her sit down, Lin Nanyue naturally leaned over.
“Professor Su, what if I don’t pass this interview?” Although she said it was “okay,” she was still apprehensive. After all, the other candidates she saw were all very talented.
“It’s just an attempt. Whatever the result, it doesn’t matter. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself,” Su Mi stroked her head.
Lin Nanyue looked up at her: “That’s not right.”
Su Mi looked back: “What’s not right?”
“Usually, isn’t the standard answer ‘It’s okay, I’ll take care of you’?”
Su Mi thought about it seriously and said, “That works too.”
“You’re being so perfunctory, Professor Su!” Lin Nanyue grumbled.
Su Mi’s gaze fell on her slightly pouted lips. Noticing the stare, Lin Nanyue looked confused: “What is it? Did I smudge my lipstick?”
Lin Nanyue had touched up her lipstick while Su Mi was changing.
Su Mi said, “It’s a bit uneven.”
Hearing this, Lin Nanyue wanted to go check the mirror, but Su Mi held her back.
“I’ll help you.” Su Mi pulled the girl directly onto her lap.
Her fingertip touched that hint of crimson, using a bit of force to blend it out. The soft lips rubbed back and forth under her finger, causing the slightly parted mouth to reveal a bit of red inside.
Su Mi’s expression was focused, her long lashes slightly lowered, as if she were performing an important task.
Lin Nanyue unconsciously held her breath, as if afraid of disturbing her.
Once finished, Su Mi’s fingers paused, and her eyelashes lifted to reveal half-lidded eyes.
Finally, she withdrew her hand, reached for a tissue box behind Lin Nanyue, and carefully wiped the remaining lipstick from her finger.
“Is it… done?” Lin Nanyue pursed her lips, her voice tinged with a bit of disappointment.
“Yes, it’s done.” After wiping her hand, Su Mi patted her lower back, signaling her to stand up. “It’s about time. We should leave early to avoid traffic.”
Lin Nanyue stood up: “Alright then.”
As they left, Su Mi wore a rare pair of pointed-toe high heels, adding a bit of aura to her clean-cut, professional suit.
This was the first time Lin Nanyue had seen her wear them, and she couldn’t help but look a few more times because they looked so good. “Professor Su, why don’t you usually dress like this?”
Su Mi told her casually, “Wearing these while teaching on weekdays is like torture.” She picked up the car keys. “Let’s go.”
Perhaps because of the joint school event, the road to the destination was a bit congested, but luckily they had left early enough, so they were on time.
They arrived about ten minutes later than planned and parked the car under the guidance of the hotel staff.
This time, Lin Nanyue didn’t bother hiding herself when getting out of the car.
“Why no disguise this time?” Su Mi teased her.
“Earlier was at your school; it would have looked strange for me to show up. But now it’s different. I’m actually here to participate in the activity,” Lin Nanyue said righteously.
Su Mi helped smooth out her slightly messy long hair. “Let’s go inside.”
The venue was a hotel capable of hosting large scale events. Because of the large number of attendees, they had booked three full floors of ballrooms.
While waiting for the elevator, they were surrounded by students from both schools. A few recognized Su Mi, but since they weren’t from the same department, they didn’t dare strike up a conversation.
Lin Nanyue originally wanted to keep some distance from Professor Su, but as they entered the elevator, Su Mi spoke directly to her: “Come closer.”
As soon as these words came out, many people looked at Lin Nanyue. Although she was surprised and a bit embarrassed, she still moved to Su Mi’s side.
When they exited the elevator, Su Mi followed her out. Because of the crowd, several departments were grouped together on one floor.
By chance, Lin Nanyue’s and Su Mi’s departments were on the same floor.
In the corridor to the left of the elevator, someone was verifying the identities of students and teachers. Su Mi went to the left to sign in. Once she finished, Teacher Xu from her department came over to lead her inside.
Su Mi looked back, wanting to wait for Lin Nanyue, but the latter gave her a subtle wave, signaling for her to go ahead first.
Su Mi withdrew her gaze and walked in with Teacher Xu.
The massive banquet hall was already filled with people. Teacher Xu led Su Mi to the area where the teachers were gathered, and the usual social pleasantries followed.
While talking to others, Su Mi kept an eye on the entrance. After a while, she saw Lin Nanyue walk in with her roommate, the two were chatting and laughing, looking quite excited.
Just then, someone called her name, and Su Mi looked away to engage with the people in front of her.
“I heard this event was organized by someone connecting with the school authorities.”
“Yeah, otherwise even with our two schools being as wealthy as they are, they wouldn’t host an event here.”
Su Mi listened to their conversation while taking a sip of her drink.
The person who initiated this event was from the Fang family, so Fang Qian would definitely show up later.
Thinking of this gave Su Mi a headache. Soon she’d have to deal with that male lead, who had neither emotional intelligence nor much common sense.
She looked toward Lin Nanyue again and saw her standing with her back turned, head lowered. It looked like she was holding her phone, likely reading something. Standing opposite her, Yan Han looked somewhat at a loss.
Su Mi’s previously relaxed posture straightened as she prepared to go over and see what was happening.
But just as she had taken a few steps, as fate would have it, Fang Qian, wearing a well-tailored suit, appeared out of nowhere and blocked her path.
“Sister Su Mi, we finally meet again,” Fang Qian greeted her with a smile.
Quite a few people around recognized Fang Qian, and they were surprised to see that these two knew each other.
Furthermore, based on Fang Qian’s address for Su Mi, the onlookers began to view her with a hint of curiosity and reappraisal.
Su Mi was in no mood for small talk. She replied casually, “Mm. Excuse me, please move.”
Everyone present knew that while Fang Qian currently ran a small, obscure studio, he had a wealthy family and vast industry behind him. This was perhaps just a plaything for the young “Little CEO Fang.”
No one wants to cross money or power, so they all treated the young CEO with smiles. They hadn’t expected Su Mi to have such an attitude.
“Why didn’t you come to the dinner last time?” Fang Qian asked, as if he hadn’t heard her. “I even asked your parents, they said you had something to do. Was it something troublesome?”
